E-mail topic: What do people think about the previous blog being closed down due to adverse reaction from some woman running for an elected position ?
Will this action cause voters to change their vote away from this person ? Did they in effect 'shoot themselves in the foot ' by being so volatile ? Does Giles Co need thin-skinned elected officials making decisions for us ?

I feel like the person should have answered to the public instead of hiding and forcing the blog to be shut down. Who knows if the accusations were true or not the person did not make a comment one way or the other just leads everyone to believe it was the truth and she is just trying to sweep it under the rug-not to smart in my opinion- she should have addressed the issue to the public.

I agree with you, when you enter the political field, I thought part of the job was to be able to take a little heat. But then again this is giles county. Things operate a little different here.

Just like the GTCW Blog, she knows she can't prove the statement was no true. She knows exactly how many people saw and heard her do it. Maybe she thought since it happened in an elevator and not the courtroom, no one would learn about her childish ways.

I think this behavior will definitely hurt her at the polls.
During the last four years, she has tried to stop the newspaper from printing anything about her, without her APPROVAL. When she didn’t succeed, she would get very angry, so it is no surprise, she closed Giles Two Cents Worth.

Your vote is valuable and you should guard it carefully. The two candidates running for County Executive, each have a record you can track. A good place for you to track these records is through the past local newspapers. The employees at the paper would help you. Don’t just take someone’s word on this blog, research it yourself.
This is NOT THE ONLY issue, Ms. Vanzant has shot herself in the foot over. I bet if we looked real close, she does not have any toes or feet left.

That candidate was warned before the election started…she would participate in underhand ness. When a person suffers from low self-esteem they often do these kinds of things. I think the lady is in way over her head and sometimes makes crazy decisions to cover this fact up. Not a smart move!!

Let me make this very clear…it was an elected official that did it to the commissioners and one newsperson. They were on the receiving end.
The person making these accusations are very bold behind anonymous and even invites one to her home to find out the answers needed and then refuses to give an address. They make a comment I wouldn't have a problem revealing names seems they made an untrue comment themselves!!!! If you can not post the facts do not post anything. Unfounded rumors are all you are posting as of yet.

Where do you see, I have called Vanzant at tough cookie? I think a compulsive lair would be a better description, since such incidents are well documented.
The decision to close the blog was made because someone made an accusation about the professional handling of an issue by one of the female candidates when she was not in the office for which she is running. The blogmaster was trying to provide a community service, continue to feed the family and not take any position. it was a private person with no political ties, no one paying, pushing or threatening, no one influencing content, open to all. It's a shame that the community can't just take this for what it was. Just keep in mind that if you elected officials react in certain ways when they are just running for office.....

As for Vanzant, she has threatened and lied to so many people within the County Government System, they know what she is and 90% of them would like to see her back on her farm in Lincoln County for ever.
The 10% are friends and family of Bodenham that would stand by her if Jesus denounced her himself along with most of the Senior Citizen at the Center. Those will never wake up to the fact she is 52% of the problem and the other 48% lies with those commissioners that will not do what is best for the people of giles county.
Election day "U" the voter will have the chance to make those changes. If you want more of the same, lay down and shut up, keep the same people in office and things will be the same or worse for the next four years.
Three women we DO NOT need elected are: Janet Vanzant, Sandy Raston, and Kim Tycer

I won't be voting for Vanzant. As a woman I have been and continue to be embarassed by the fact that she got her position dishonestly and has earned what I am told is over $200,000 since taking office. The things I hear her say she has accomplished, I hear commissioners say she is just taking the credit for some of their work which she wouldn't get involved in until she saw how it turned out and if it was positive she smiled and took the credit and if it turned out badly she proclaimed she knew it all along.

Are you speaking of only the County Exec race the Register race and the Judge race? If so it would be females - 1, 2, and 2. So if 3 have been eliminated then it has to be one of the other remaining two. Unless you were including commission candidates but from reading the threads it was a female candidate in a major race.
I consider a commission seat a major race too.

I read the comment and I didn't think it was negative about Vanzant. I read it and just thought it was a comment from someone who was at the event. I AM REALLY CONFUSED. When did the incident take place between Mrs. Harwell & Mrs. Vanzant? If you read the attached letter that was past out in the courthouse, it indicates the Tuesday before the bean supper on Thursday. But, if you read Mrs. Harwell's statement in her letter, she says she was no where around Mrs. Vanzant, her son, her home or next door at Mrs. Harwell's mother's residence on that day. However, we have these people that admit being with Mrs. Harwell when the incident took place. So, which is it? I wish someone could explain why such vastly different stories. Stating the facts and not their personal opinion. It is my understanding the supposed statement was made when no one else was around but, Mrs. Vanzant, her son and Mrs. Harwell. In that case, there are no witnesses and this can all be ruled virtually Mrs. Vanzant’s word against Mrs. Harwell’s. In my opinion, if Mrs. Harwell did not say this, she should have confronted Mrs. Vanzant(as she did from what I have heard) on Monday of this week and handled it like two professional women and adults, before going off half-cocked and dragging people into a situation they have no involvment in and distributing a letter.
Why does Mrs. Harwell feel the need to pursue this like she is? She should be worried that someone will disclose the other unfounded & derogatory remarks she has made against Mrs. Vanzant. How are we suppose to believe her when she has in fact made statements about Mrs. Vanzant before? Is she also going to say she did not ever say those things either? She may have some willing participants to support, listen and take her word that she speaks the truth, but I don't think they know the whole truth. However, there is a lot of talk going 'round and I am not hearing kind words spoken in regards to her. She could have atleast maintained some dignity and respect had she been smarter in handling this issue. I think it would have all blown over, but she made certain it didn't. Also, where does she get the idea there was election tampering going on? This lady never quits! Let me draw some more attention to myself!(as if she doesn’t have enough already) I don't believe she is a candidate in this election, is she? So, how does it affect her???

Am I the only one who wonders why anyone who is trying to stop a rumor/lie would feel the need to inform so many people. Is that not also spreading the rumor/lie? Most all the people who now know about this were informed by Mrs. Harwell. I don't think I have ever seen that many confused people in one place. I didn't just hear about this- I witnessed it. The letter I referred to was the one supposedly sent to Vicky Harwell that claimed that Mrs. Vanzant was spreading a "lie" about Mrs. Harwell. Mrs. Harwell felt the need to distibute copies of said "letter" along with a lengthy statement in her own defense. This was supposedly done in order to stop the further spreading of the "lie". This leads me to an earlier statement that I posted in which I concluded that in exposing so many people to the "letter" and the "lie", Mrs. Harwell herself was only making others aware of the "lie" that she was accusing Mrs. Vanzant of spreading. The point is, the majority of the people would never have known anything about it, had Vicky not told them herself.

Sunday Aug.06,2006 9:27:20AM, I would never knowingly defend anyone who does't speak the truth which is why I made a concious decision not to make mention of the "LIE", but chose only to defend the "assistant" because I feel I know her well and have for many years. I simply feel it is just as bad to wrongly attack a person just because you may find fault with their associates, as it is for telling or spreading lies. I fear that we may never have knowledge of the WHOLE truth in this case, which is unfortunate for those of us who simply try to do the right things in our lives. During times such as this we must all take time to remember what we stand for and be very careful as not to be swayed in one direction or the other. After all, the issue at hand is between Mrs. Vanzant and Mrs. Harwell and we would probably all benefit in letting it stay just that. Tammy...your kind words are equally appreciated. Yes, kind words, rather than vile ones, would seem more productive. And I have absolutely no doubt that Tommy will do right by the people and give heed to the Golden Rule in his dealings with them.

I was not referring to the “lie” between Harwell and Vanzant. I am talking to the MANY LIES she has told to almost anyone she speaks to. I am not accusing her, I am telling you and the whole world, the woman is a liar, plain as that.

I want to know if you condone lying? You supported Mrs. Vanzant during her campaign and due to that fact I am already concerned as how you will vote on issues.
Will you vote to allow Mrs.Vanzant to have two secretaries when in the past the County Executive had only one? I want you to vote, NO!
Will you vote for the $6,000.00 raise Mrs. Vanzant put in this years budget
for Jane? I want you to vote NO!
Will you check Jane’s qualifications to see if she is even capable of turning on a computer and has any knowledge of any secretarial duties other than cutting out photos from the newspaper to mail out to the public? Will you make an effort to see who pays for the postage for these mailings? You can’t just go and ask them because you will get a lie. Check for yourself. I am asking you to do this!
Will you support a wheel tax?
Will you vote for a property tax raise?
Did you vote for the Financial Act?
Will you uphold the will of the people and help implement the Financial Act?
Will you support a revision of the LUMP bill? I want you to vote YES!
Do you support zoning of ant kind?
Did you participate in any discussions or attend any meetings to create the “Vote The Ticket” and do you support that group and their beliefs especially the KKK as at least one member does?
What were your reasons for not answering the questionnaire mailed to all candidates by Mr. McPeters?
What are you thoughts on the Hunter and Smith building?
Will you vote to sell the Ambulance Service if it repeatedly doesn’t show a profit?
Are you a Democratic or a Republican?
If you and your wife do know and respect MRS. Vanzant’s assistant Jane, ask her if Mrs. Vanzant is married, if she resides in Lincoln County? When you do, we will then know if lying is a trait Jane has also.
I live in the fifth district and deserve answers to these questions since you didn’t come by my house when you were campaigning.
Tommy...don't listen to this group of whiners. I know you are smart enough to see what is going on here in this county. But if you ever figure out what their real agenda is, many of us would like to know. They are against practically everything and have succeeded in scaring many people via misrepresentations. I am damn tired of you posters raging about the questions I ask of MY COMMISSIONER!! If you are not in the fifth district, then SHUT UP!! I voted for Tommy myself, but I did not get to speak to him before the election and he didn’t make it by my house. I have every right to ask question of him and it is none of your damn business.
Tommy, if you are undecided about some of my answers, just say so. I am not trying to cage you in on any answers to make hash out of you later, like some of these bimbo’s want you to believe.

I'm just curious, why did you vote for Mr. Pollard if you have no idea where he stands on the issues you presented in your post? I'm not picking on you for posting your questions, because as a 5th district resident myself, I don't know where he stands on these issues either. And maybe that is the point of your post, which is okay too. You just seem educated on the issues facing this County, but it seemed odd to me that you voted for someone that you didn't know anything about.
Also, can we ALL try to refrain from using curse words on this blog? I personally think it gets the point across better if they are left out of the posts. And some of us are just tired of reading them every time we get on this blog.

just curious, why did you vote for Mr. Pollard
I voted for Mr. Pollard because he was the only fifth district candidate that attended any functions for the candidates.
But I hear Tommy is in the anti-zoners' camp. That is very disappointing.
Tommy...if that statement is true about your being in their camp, I just hope you will think long and hard about it. I still have complete faith in you as a person who will do what's right for the citizens of this county. We all want freedom but not at the expense of those who are equally entitled to it. It all comes down to the Golden Rule and what the Bible means by.....am I my brother's keeper? Good luck buddy.

I don’t know how Mr. Pollard stands on zoning, but if Mr. Holt and Mrs. Howell had made an effort to attend at less some of the functions for the candidates, I might have voted for them also. But, I single shot Mr. Pollard for the effort he did make.

I think we need representation from both sides of the zoning issue to be fair to everyone. Also, zoning is not the only issue that the commission will be facing.

I didn't vote for Mr. Pollard because I didn't know where he stood on any of the issues facing this County. I only voted for two Commissioners because out of the four candidates that I did research, I only agreed with two of those running. I didn't get to find the answers to your questions about the other candidates, and I felt like an uneducated vote was worse than no vote.
I will say that since my last post on this blog, I have talked to Mr. Pollard about the questions you asked. He was very pleasant to talk to and he made the effort to call me and explain his positions on those issues. I think if you would like to know his stance, you should definitely give him a call and discuss it with him. After talking with him, I feel that he is going to do the best job he can for the people in the 5th district and that he is going to put effort into listening to those he represents. With that being said, I would ask you to call him to discuss any issues you feel are important to you.
Mr. Pollard, good luck with your commissioner's seat and thanks for making the effort to clarify your stances on the different issues with me.
