E-mail topic: Looking back over the last four years in Giles County government...

...what positive effects do voters and taxpayers see coming from the County Executive or any of the 21 members of the County Commissioners Court?

You made a mistake in posting your comment? Are you sure you weren't trying to deliberately mess up, in order to dispel the belief that you "know everything?" Just kidding, Allan. Welcome aboard, and good luck in the August election.

Sorry, but I can't for the moment think of anything POSITIVE coming from local gov during the last four years but if I come up with something I'll be sure to write in. Only thing that comes to mind are the several law suits that have cost us a bunch and the tax hike in 2004-5.

Wasn't it during this past 4 years the commissioners spent a bunch of money like $150,000 on the Hunter Smith building then the state stopped the work? Whydid the county buy it in the first place if its not going to be used? Again, waste of tax money. Can Hatfield do something about opening it up or sellinng it?

Did you read this weeks paper? Mrs. Vanzant was quoted saying, the Hunter Smith Building need work and repairs?

News paper reports county to spend nearly half a million bucks to paint windows and clean the stones on the courthouse. Pigeon poop has been there a lonnggggg time. Why don't we leave the poop and use the extra money to get that pesky HS building taken care of. would this be one of Vanzants "accomplishments" instead of helping to get jobs in here.

None!!!!
The 21 commissioners can not agree on where to have lunch, much less anything that really effects the well being of the county or positive actions towards an improved job market.
As for the County Executive, she has so much to do she has to have 7-people working under her! That's 1-1/2 more than any one holding that office ever had. But back to what she has done. COST THE COUNTY MONEY with wasted law suits, wasted money on hunter-smith building, wasted good employees' by making up lies about them, to the point they have quit, or she fired them, and now she wants to lease the Sun Trust Bank top floor for HER and a few more.
Yep, she's done a lot.
My VOTE will be for a new County Executive and a lot of new commissioners.

This is not correct. The 7 people responsible to her must be 2 secretaries, 2 bookkeepers, 3 custodial staff, BUT those positions were already in place when she took over from Corky
Wakefield - in fact he created at least one of those positions.

Lawsuits: by virtue of office the county exec becomes a defendent even though they may not be directly involved. Be fair.

Hunter Smith: it wasn't Vanzant it was the four commissioners that comprised the sub-committee to oversee the renovations.

Sun Trust Bank: no longer an option.

To: begs' to differ::::::::
You have a few things right, but you are like most that hold up Janet, limited on your information about her.
She has two full-time where Corky had one that was only part-time. Janet has her fulltime and then there is Jane, who the commission told her to get rid of 3 years ago.
Law suits: you don't know about those not made public.
Hunter & Smith: She was the cause of more money wasted in attempt to remodel for her new office then the building cost (when Collier convinced the commission to purchase) which was over $200.000.
and it's still unfinished and empty.
People like yourself should have to try to work with her and ONLY THEN would you know her.

From your previous comment, you said you work with her! Then I have a few questions for You.
1-Does this mean your one of her seven staff?
2-Did you make the comment,or did she suggest/write it for you?
3-Are you out to make your Wayne look bad? If so why do you use the name; begs to differ said:
4-Could this be Mrs. Janet Vanzant making her 1st. comment on the blog?

Your comment was made 2:19pm. What are the office hours of the Court House?
Makes one wonder what your getting paid to do.

I will keep all your posted comments for future reference.
Meanwhile keep on taken pot shots. If you don't get the right one at least you will leave a pattern.

If you liked the last four years your gonna really love the next four. Got your money ready for the wheel tax. Canbell mentioned it last night not direct but as "the county needs new money". Hold on to your pocket books folks the whirlwind is about to begin.

Well, anonymous, which would you consider most fair....property owners paying all the taxes or those who don't pay a dime being asked to chip in?
