Giles Free Speech Zone

The purpose of the "Giles Free Speech Zone" is to identify problems of concern to the people of Giles County, to discuss them in a gentlemanly and civil manner, while referring to the facts and giving evidence to back up whatever claims are made, making logical arguments that avoid any use of fallacy, and, hopefully, to come together in agreement, and find a positive solution to the problem at hand. Help make a difference! Email "mcpeters@usit.net" to suggest topics or make private comments.

I'm Back...

...but maybe not for long.

It's been two months since I walked into the ICU at Hillside Hospital, and found my dear mother dead. (No, nobody tried to soften the blow -- the staff just let me walk in to her room, and figure out that she was gone.) And for the last two months, I have ignored this blog... but that will now be changing.

For the time being, I'm going to try my very best to put in one hour a day to maintaining this blog. I have an awful lot I need to do, but I believe I can spare at least an hour per day. In the long run, though, I'd like to find someone else to hand over the reigns to. So, if anyone out there in Readerland wishes to take over for me, then they should email me -- "mcpeters@usit.net" -- and tell me why they would be perfect for the job. Incidentally, in addition to following the policies I've established, I also want the next Blogmaster to be anonymous. That's the only way he (or she) can avoid the sort of stupid personal attacks that I've always had to put up with.

There's a tremendous backlog of postings I need to review for approval, plus quite a lot of old email I need to read. Just be patient, and I'll get done what I can, as fast as I can. And one other thing... your comments will now appear immediately without any approval from me. Hopefully no-one will abuse this relaxation of the blog rules... I really don't want to have to approve everything that goes through here, okay?

From my experience with Hillside, which I realize is not the perfect hospital - if there is one - no one would ever be allowed to go in and "figure out" that their loved one was deceased.

Actually, when I discovered that I was unable to even BUY free speech from Emperor Herschel Lake, I got a pretty good idea how bad things really are around here. And guess what? The Columbia Daily Herald won't sell me ads to promote this blog either! Weird, huh?

I for one will miss you very much.

That's appreciated, but don't start missing me just yet... if (or when) I hand over this blog to someone else, it will be to give me more time to launch the Giles Rebel. And, eventually, the "Free Speech Zone" will be folded into the Rebel-- where you'll see plenty of me, I can assure you!

Hang in there and never forget the ones who respected what you have done.

I will... and many thanks for the kind words!

Hardly. I have simply decided to delegate some of my work. And what is "nonsense" about giving the ordinary people of Giles County a place to vent their opinions, unfiltered by the Lake media monopoly?

Now, go get a real life!

I don't see how publishing this blog stands in the way of doing precisely that. Do you?

Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out!

(a) I'm not going anywhere, really.

(b) You are using language that wasn't allowed on network teevee back in 1970, which means you are in violation of this blog's minimalist rules. Consider yourself warned. Comprende?

I am "close minded" in that I am wholly convinced that "individual freedom" is the only Christian social policy that can possibly be followed. (Ie, the Golden Rule dictates that people be allowed to live their lives unmolested by alleged "superiors" in government robbing them and/or bossing them around.)

And, being absolutely devoted to my principles, some people -- especially those who live off of the government's stolen loot -- find me "obnoxious." But the same was said a couple hundred years ago about Thomas Paine and Patrick Henry, so I'm really not all that concerned.

Better luck in your new life.

Thanks... I guess.

Your experience is obviously not the same as MY experience, to say the least!

I am NOT a liar, and I have no axe to grind against Hillside Hospital. But what I say happened, really happened...

I got a call around 4:00AM from Hillside, saying that my mother had "taken a turn for the worse" -- in fact, a nurse had just found her dead, but they didn't tell me this to soften the blow -- and I raced to the hospital, after calling my sister.

Once I arrived, I went directly to the ICU. I walked right past the nurse's station, and entered my mother's room. I immediately noticed that (a) her oxygen mask was off, (b) she was white as a ghost, and (c) she wasn't moving. I started to call out for help, but realization dawned on me that she was dead. I spent a minute or two with her (she was still quite warm to the touch) and then I left the room, and asked a nurse what had happened.

After talking to her attending nurse, I went to the ICU waiting room, so I could intercept my sister, and gently break the news to her. Etcetera.

Yes, I really did walk in on my mother and find her dead. Yes, I think this reflects poorly on that particular nursing shift at Hillside. But, seeing as how I wasn't permanently traumatized, and, in consideration of the fact that Hillside gave my mother an extra eight months of life, back in December of last year... I bear no grudges or ill feeling.

I realize this totally isn't my business, but you received the call at 4 in the morning, correct? In a previous blog did you not say that you missed your mother's last moments because you were embroiled in some sort of conflict with Mr. Lake and by the time you got back to the hospital she was already dead? I don't understand; does Mr. Lake do business dealings for the paper into the wee hours of the morning? I'm sure that's a big no. So if you weren't doing business with Mr. Lake at 4 a.m. (which I'm sure of) why blame HIM for the fact that you weren't at the hospital at the time of your mother's passing? His prohibiting you buying ad space in no way caused your mother's death and further, no one forced you to spend her last days on earth embroiled in this newspaper vendetta. You want publicity for your blog and the newspapers won't print it? Make some flyers or something. If the blog is as fantastic and essential as you seem to think it is, then readers will tell more readers and on and on. But you're going to have to update more than just once every couple of months in order to keep people coming. Now, why on earth would Mr. Lake not want to sell you ad space? Could it be that he doesn't want his paper or radio station involved with a site that is a frequent critique of them both, that regularly posts unfounded rumors and accusations regarding many in this town (the posters would be a frequent source of this)? It's not denying free speech. It's Mr. Lake being given the choice of what he wants in his newspaper. You have every right to say what you want or write want you want, but Mr. Lake, as the owner, has the right to print or not print what he wants. No one is censoring what you write in your blog, but you reserve the right to censor or delete those comments you don't like, yes? It doesn't make you a bad person and not printing your ad doesn't make Mr. Lake a bad person. It simply means you both reserve the right to have what you want in your respective modes of communication.

10-20-07, 3:07 pm- I could not have said it better. Kendrick thinks that free speech is absolute only for him, but it doesn't apply to others when he doesn't get his little way. He is only blaming missing his mom's death because that is the moral fiber of his character...he has to blame someone, no matter what. He is such as loser.

10-21-07 11:33 am -I wasn't trying to say that Kendrick is a loser. I don't know him personally. I can understand how heartbroken he is over his mother's death. However, I just don't think that lashing out at the Lake family is the way to go. Regardless of whether or not you're on Kendrick's "side", can't we all see where Mr. Lake is coming from, not selling ad space to Kendrick? Has anyone ever read some of the comments and remarks made by Kendrick and those that comment on his blog about various Giles County citizens? By printing his ad, regardless of any disclaimer, Mr. Lake would be opening himself up to a variety of lawsuits. Seriously, who would knowingly do that? I say this in all sincerity; perhaps Kendrick could find some investors to pay for him to start his own newspaper. Then he could print what he wants, when he wants, and he could feel as though he's doing the citizens of Giles County a favor by giving them a choice of what paper to read.

I believe Kendrick would make more money playing spoons than writing a newspaper for sure. Although, he will say that he isn't wanting to write a newspaper for the $, he will say that he is wanting to write a newspaper to "inform" the people of Giles County.

The only thing he has "informed" us of for sure is that he is a pig headed anal buffoon.

It takes a mighty big person to kick someone when they're down then hide behind a mask of anonymity. In the past couple of months Kendrick has lost his last parent, whom he adored, has had to deal with the reality of depression over that loss then developed an infection that basically has left him immobile. He has tried to explain the situation, not in a search for sympathy but in an effort for folks to understand why a vital public service he provides at his expense has not been kept current. What has been the response? Certainly those who have a caring spirit and are interested in truth and the betterment of the county have shown compassion and understanding. Then there are those so vile in their rhetoric that they expose themselves as the cowards and lowlifes they are. I certainly can not speak for Kendrick but I would imagine that he greatly appreciates the kind understanding statements while trying to ignore the obvious clowns who possess less than one active brain cell whose words are like gas passed in a crowd, they should be embarrassed to have caused so much discomfort to those near them, but they are to stupid and insensitive to even understand they have committed a social indiscretion. And the thing with you, Barrett, is that when you give someone an opinion of someone or something else, you expect them to accept it whole-heartedly, when in fact, a lot of the people that read your crap know nothing about the issue other than what you say. Just because you say it or think it, doesn't mean that it is correct or accurate. I bet your breath often smells like crap, because most of the time, that is what is coming out of your mouth.

Let's see, WAB Got himself arrested once, he repeatedly submits articles in the local newspaper that confirms he is an idiot, and he spews at the mouth about everything that he doesn't agree with. First let me say, "I do not know Mr. Barrett or Mr. McPeters." For all I know they could be crazy, but if they are, they're sure not alone.
Would a sane educated person kick a man or woman when they are down?
You have a lot of anger to say the things you say. You need help.
I think you really don't like Tee Jackson and are trying to make people think he is writing these things.
He wouldn't stoop that low.

Okay, I finally made it back from parts unknown and places I do not care to discuss. Let see, let me catch up and see what I have missed. Okay, Mr. Barrett is getting bashed because he has a spine and anonymous is posting like crazy and making insult after insult. Great, I have'nt missed a thing. So, what's with the high school teacher screwing her student at GCHS? Has Pulaski settled their lawsuit over the oil spill yet? Rumor has it they have been sent to collections. Is Vanzant's history so sketchyb that she may even be an escaped murderer from Indiana? Come on, when you heard the news she was the first person you thought of was'nt you? Looks, like the motorcycle has disappeared from the courthouse lawn. Oh, yeah, it's 30 degrees outside. They're pumping out 50,000 16oz bottles of pure bottled tap water out of Campbellsville a day. Oh, that's right, they gave that back. The ambulance service has agreed to start airing live pay per views of the Ultimate Fighting Championships along with their chili suppers to raise bail money for their fearless leader. So, what's this about turning the lights off at the football game? Nice job Einstein. Last I checked it costs twice as much to turn a flourescent light on than it does to run it for 2 hrs. Also can you imagine the parents, SURE YOU CAN GO TO THE GAME WITH YOUR BOYFRIEND, IT'S A NICE SAFE WELL LIGHT PLACE. Here's an idea. Let's turn the lights off in the whole city. I thought mushrooms are suppose to be kept in the dark anyways.
Anonymous, have fun with this.

Long term... I'll probably be blind from glaucoma. More recently, I've had an infection in my right leg, which drained away all my strength, and left me unable to walk. Three weeks since I saw the doctor about this, I'm getting around slowly with the help of a cane. Maybe in another three weeks, I'll be back to my old strength. I sure hope so, anyway!

In all seriousness and sincerity I ask you what news is that? What news has been printed here that isn't in the paper? For the last several months it's all been Kendrick's personal news. That wouldn't be in the paper anyway, right? For the months since the initial post was written it's all been people sniping at each other, some ill intentioned, some not so much. The only person who can take the blog away as some source of reputable news is the blog owner who, for his own reasons, hasn't posted anything newsworthy in quite awhile. I get that Kendrick and that Barret man who always seems to be writing to the paper consider themselves Capra-esque heroes (I'm not bashing them -it's a noble goal)but I truly don't believe Pulaski to be the Peyton Place they seem to think. Sure, it'd be nice to have more than one person own the papers and radio station, but what's to stop someone else from starting a paper or station of their own? This isn't Mayberry. The same person isn't also the mayor, postman, sheriff, and telephone operator. I don't see any reason to bash Mr. Lake for having money and owning papers and the station when anyone else who was motivated and had the means to do so could offer up some competition. So perhaps he does pick and choose what goes into the paper. If the citizens of Pulaski were truly invested in what goes on at the various committee meetings around town, wouldn't more actually go? Moreover, it seems as though Kendrick's main problem, that he's spent the most time writing on "lately" has been the refusal of Mr. Lake to print some ad of his. How is that ad relevant to Giles County?

That is ridiculous! I've posted practically nothing -- about my personal views, or anything else -- in the last three months, while there have been at least a hundred posts in the "Ambulance Service Financial Hemorrhage" thread just in the little over a month that autoposting has been turned back on.

At any rate... it is likely that the first Anonymous was referring to news being broken on this blog in the somewhat more distant past. Certainly, in the year and a half since I started the "Free Speech Zone", there has been plenty of that.

That wouldn't be in the paper anyway, right?

Not likely! I'm pretty sure that I "don't exist" insofar as the Lakes and their newspaper are concerned.

For the months since the initial post was written it's all been people sniping at each other, some ill intentioned, some not so much. The only person who can take the blog away as some source of reputable news is the blog owner who, for his own reasons, hasn't posted anything newsworthy in quite awhile.

Well, gee. My mother dies. I grieve for a while. Then I get sick. And you honestly don't understand why I've been scarce?

I get that Kendrick and that Barret man who always seems to be writing to the paper consider themselves Capra-esque heroes (I'm not bashing them -it's a noble goal)

I guess it all depends on your definition of "heroic." Unlike YOU, Mr. Barrett and I always append our "real name" to everything that we post, even when we are criticizing people much more powerful and influential than ourselves. Like it or not, that lends an element of risk to what we are doing. And no, I'm not suggesting that someone will hire a hitman to bump us off. But, considering how there are a few bad apples in practically every organization, it is certainly within the realm of possibility that a "bad cop" might be paid to plant some drugs, and get Mr. Barrett or myself arrested on trumped up charges. Would you, MR. ANONYMOUS, want to bet your continued freedom on the odds that there is not a single bad cop anywhere in Giles County? I'm guessing you wouldn't... seeing as how you refuse to divulge your real name, I don't expect you're all that courageous of a person. Finally, just how much money are Mr. Barrett and myself making off of our efforts, at some tangible risk, to keep the public informed? Just in case you don't know, the answer is: nothing.

but I truly don't believe Pulaski to be the Peyton Place they seem to think.

Peyton Place? I can't offer an opinion on that, not having read the book or watched either the movie or the soap opera. But I do know this: Giles County is a place where public officials sometimes behave like petty tyrants, and they often break the law with impunity, while the Lake "news" media watches on in silence. Is that "Peyton Place" level badness? I don't know.. but I can say with great confidence that it's bad enough, and that the people of Giles County shouldn't be willing to tolerate it!

Sure, it'd be nice to have more than one person own the papers and radio station, but what's to stop someone else from starting a paper or station of their own?

Nothing... other than the stratospheric cost of launching a competing paper/station. In the meantime, wouldn't it be nice if the Lakes made at least a token effort to be fair to both sides of an issue, rather than promoting the side they favor, while ignoring the side they oppose? Who knows? If they really wanted to turn over a new leaf, they could decide to be a "common carrier" when it comes to PAID advertising, by accepting any ad that isn't libelous or obscene. (You know, like classified ads that say "Hey Teacher! Leave Those Kids Alone!" for instance.)

This isn't Mayberry. The same person isn't also the mayor, postman, sheriff, and telephone operator.

That's true... but, if given the choice, I'd gladly swap Vanzant for "Andy Taylor" in a heartbeat!

I don't see any reason to bash Mr. Lake for having money

I have no problem with people being rich. I aspire to be rich someday myself. And I occasionally exchange friendly emails with someone wealthy enough to buy out the Lakes, a hundred times over. The problem -- perhaps related to the old "camel through the eye of a needle" business -- is that a lot of rich people see themselves as "better" than the non-rich. And when you combine that attitude of smug superiority with monopoly media ownership, you may wind up with a newspaper that attempts to mold public opinion, rather than simply report the facts.

and owning papers and the station when anyone else who was motivated and had the means to do so could offer up some competition.

That's much easier said than done! Either a "dead tree" newspaper, or a radio station, cost a small fortune to establish. Fortunately, "dead tree" papers are going the way of the dodo bird, and "internet only" papers are considerably much less expensive to launch. Stay tuned...

So perhaps he does pick and choose what goes into the paper.

Perhaps? Now that's a good one! Hey, did you notice that I have the gift of prophecy? Behold!

Over three months ago -- on August 16, 2007 -- I posted the following:

."..I know a lot of people at the Citizen/Press chafe at what must seem like my constant criticism. But, ya know, all it would take to get me off The Lake's case, would be for the Citizen/Press/WKSR to stop acting like a bully that's more interested in running "psy-ops" than presenting the facts. I pointed out to Herschel that the County Commission had, once again, gotten away with illegally passing a zoning plan, and he quite literally laughed it off, saying, "well, we can't catch everything that goes on." Left unstated was the fact that -- now that he knows what Vanzant and Company got away with -- there will be NO forthcoming "better late than never" coverage of the story. Will there???"

Well, here we are... It's three months later now. HAS there in fact been a "better late than never" story regarding the illegal passage of that zoning plan? NOPE!!! Just as I predicted, Lake and Crew swept it under the rug, so as not to disturb the delicate sensibilities of those voters who (for some strange reason) prefer honesty and lawfulness from their local government.

If the citizens of Pulaski were truly invested in what goes on at the various committee meetings around town, wouldn't more actually go?

Perhaps they would, if the public was fully informed on what was going on at the meetings. I'm no slouch in that department, but I didn't know that a zoning plan had even been proposed, until I found out (thanks to an anonymous tipster on this blog) that it had already been passed. And when you consider the shabby way that citizens are treated by Vanzant et al -- being threatened with arrest for speaking, and not being allowed to sit where they can actually hear what's being said -- the remarkable thing is HOW MANY people bother to go, anyway.

Moreover, it seems as though Kendrick's main problem, that he's spent the most time writing on "lately" has been the refusal of Mr. Lake to print some ad of his.

Lately??? I haven't written a single word about the Lakes in over three months!

On August 15, I made a last-ditch effort, over the phone, to talk Herschel Lake into running an ad (that had been approved, apparently by his son, several days earlier) which promoted this blog. He steadfastly refused, and in the process, revealed himself to be a man devoid of integrity, while causing my blood pressure to reach the boiling point. At this time, visiting hours for the ICU were almost over, and so I called the ICU to tell my sister that, given my current state of rage, that I probably should just cancel my (long postponed) visit, and come the next day. I then went to my computer, and wrote a very long letter to Scott Stewart. When this was completed, I was still too upset over the day's events to have much hope for falling asleep, so I opened the Blogger control panel, and wrote a piece about how I'd been given the run-around on my perfectly non-objectionable ad. When I finished that post, I saved it, rather than publishing it...

Shortly thereafter, I got a call from the ICU, saying that my mother had "taken a turn for the worse." When I got to her bedside, I found that she was dead. Eventually, I was joined by my sister, and sister-in-law, and the three of us spent an hour or so talking and reminiscing and making plans. Oddly enough, by the time I finally got back home, I was still angry at Herschel Lake. Angry enough, in fact, that I went ahead and published the piece which I had put on hold, as well as the letter I sent to Scott Stewart. And, so far as I can tell, that was the very last word I had to say about the Lakes, until I wrote the message you are now reading.

How is that ad relevant to Giles County?

FIRST: Since when have the Lakes only published ads that are "relevant" to Giles County? I recall that, back, in the days before the "Boobie Bungalow Club" was shut down, Herschel Lake used to run quarter page display ads for the "B. Bungalow," which would name the "featured dancer" and list her surgically enhanced measurements. But that was in the old days, when Herschel wasn't so "discriminating" about what he would publish. (Recall that he claimed my classified ad headline -- "Hey, teacher! Leave those kids alone!" -- was so patently offensive that he couldn't run in it in his fine, upstanding, "family" newspaper. You know... the same one that used to run ads for strip clubs, and ran a front page "human interest story" -- "Nikki Got Naked!" -- regarding the life of a local "exotic" dancer.)

SECOND: This blog is the only anonymous outlet in Giles County for "whisteblowers" to get the unfiltered truth before the public. Yes, I know that the signal to noise ratio is pretty dismal, but, in my opinion, a static filled broadcast that allows the truth to be spoken, is much to be preferred over a "hi fidelity" broadcast that is full of half-truths or lies. So, considering that the point of the ever so "controversial" ad was to make people aware that an alternative source of news and information now existed in Giles County, I'd have to say that it was pretty darn "relevant."

FINALLY: The ad headline (Hey, teacher! Etc) was designed to bring attention to a very spirited discussion of the local government schools. Go back to that thread, and read it, okay? Now, considering that the govskools devour the lion's share of taxes in Giles County, don't you think that sort of discussion -- which you absolutely will not see or hear in the Lake Media-opoly -- is well worth having? Even, dare I say... relevant? You know it is!

"in a multiple manner, in several ways"

Check it out, smart ass- at Merriam-Webster Online

To Anonymous who wrote the 22 Nov. 6:46 post.

You very sarcastically ask the question, “In all seriousness and sincerity I ask you what news is that? What news has been printed here that isn't in the paper?”

These are but a few of the items that were first and in some cases only posted here.
The anti-side of zoning; ambulance service giving free services to county employees, writing off tens of thousands of dollars as uncollectible without any effort to collect; the student protest at Richland over a teacher being fired; Richland principal being absent more days than present; school administration building to cost over $1,400,000.00; the school boards refusal to follow their own policy; inconsistencies in the school budget; the full truth about the Jamie Rouse shooting at Richland; the definitive purpose of the financial management act; published a school budget; revealed the problem with nepotism in the city/county government; refusal of the newspaper and radio station to run ads for this blog; revealed problems with Agri-park sewage; the Hunter-Smith boondoggle; the disappearing teacher pay raises; the spring deal at Campbellsville; the oil spill at may oil ; mayor Speer’s new job and SUV; state audit findings revealing the major violations of school board book keeping and unauthorized spending on fields at Richland; showed film of the school bus garage; cyanide found at White-Stafford and reported as being removed over two weeks before actually being moved; effort to appoint an unqualified person as financial management director; illegal votes by financial management committee resulting in District Attorney ordering a re-vote; extreme water rate increase; Milky Way tax exemption; adopted code of ethics for county officials; appointment of Bernetta Houston to $30,000.00 a year job after voting to extend school directors contract minutes before resigning from school board; and the list could go on and on but I fear it would make little difference to those who only want to anonymously bash without justification.
I also would like to add that I have no problem with Mr. Lake or any of the people connected with the newspaper or the radio station so please stop trying to give the impression that I do. Allen Barrett

If you call what you reported unbiased and news, then you are more delirious than I thought. You take small pieces of things and make huge deals out of them, without telling the whole story.

I never claimed to be totally unbiased in the things I write on this blog or in letters to the editor anymore than any other person who writes or reports on events including the major news outlets. My only claim has been that what I write has contained the absolute truth. As far as making "huge deals" out of little things I leave that up to those who read what I have written as to whether it's a huge deal or not. Can you give me an example of any news report that gives the whole story? Of course not, it's always a portion limited by the amount of space or time. So the bottom line is have I reported anything that is not true, the answer is a a very firm NO. You might try attending a few of the county/city meetings and be surprised at how much other stuff is really going on. Allen Barrett

I won't dispute the fact she makes more than $30,000 that was the amount admitted to by the system. If she makes $75,000 as you claim then people should be even more outraged.
My point in posting was not to reveal her salary, whether rounded off to $30,00 or $75,000, as much as the appearance of a payback for her vote to extend the directors contract then resigning from the school board moments later. Would you disagree with the overall factuality of what I said?

"My only claim has been that what I write has contained the absolute truth..."

that sentence, without doubt, is the biggest untruth of all! you admit yourself that what you post is unbiased. the only way the truth can be reported is if it is unbiased. what you do here is exactly what you accuse the paper of doing - writing slanted stories that contain your version of things. the truth is that almost everything you post is at best a half-truth that has been overly exaggerated. have you been present at every event that you have written about? if not, then where did you get your information? most likely from someone who told you that they knew something "for a fact", when in reality they don't know either. they tell you something that gets you riled, and you post it. the only way to post the truth is to know every side of the story, to speak to everyone involved, and i know you haven't done that about most of the people that you have ridiculed and defamed on this blog. some of the people you've written about you've barely ever even spoken to. you can claim all you want that this isn't the case, but you and I and everyone with any common sense knows that to be right. the only question is whether you intentionally mislead people with your exaggerations or simply do so because you don't know any better. Just one example (of many i could post) to prove this fact.....

anonymous (11-29, 6:42) wrote, "I will correct one thing for you Mr. Barrett. Houston makes 1 1/2 times more than 30,000.00. Check with payroll it is public knowledge."

You then posted, "I won't dispute the fact she makes more than $30,000 that was the amount admitted to by the system. If she makes $75,000 as you claim then people should be even more outraged."

1 1/2 times $30,000 is $45,000, NOT $75,000 as you state. If you can't compute that simple amount, then how can any of the figures or numbers about anything you state on here be deemed as accurate? Secondly, while that's what the poster says she makes, how do you know that he or she is correct? Yes, it is a matter of public record, but have you actually checked it to verify that information? How do you know for sure that the poster has checked it? Just because someone "says" that's correct doesn't mean that it is. That amount may indeed be correct, but my point is that without the actual documentation to verify that it is correct, you can't state it as the truth. For everyone who states something such as that statement that is true, there are ten who state the same type of thing without actually having taken the time to VERIFY their information and so give false information or at best half-truths. You shouldn't post something and claim it to be true unless you have the actual documentation to prove it in hand, and my guess is that 90% of the time you don't.

First of all I would suggest that you go back and re-read my post on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 3:57:00 PM. The very first sentence in that statement makes the declaration that I am not totally unbiased in what I write. Are you really so naive as to actually think “the only way the truth can be reported is if it is unbiased”? There is, nor has there ever been anyone who is able to totally disassociate themselves from all their past experiences and write or speak without any bias. I have recognized that all media present their version of the truth with details based on their limited resources. I do not and have not faulted them for that I simply recognize it as a fact of life. It’s like the matter of four people seeing the same auto accident and having four different versions of the event. The central truth is agreed upon by all four witnesses, there was indeed an accident, it’s in the details that things begin to get fuzzy. The wise person will examine each testimony and filter that information through their own screen of bias.
You state, “I will correct one thing for you Mr. Barrett. Houston makes 1 1/2 times more than 30,000.00”. As I tried to explain before my effort was not to open a discussion about her salary but that she has the position at any salary. Granted I was wrong in my statement "I won't dispute the fact she makes more than $30,000 that was the amount admitted to by the system. If she makes $75,000 as you claim then people should be even more outraged". My intention was to type $45,000.00 but my typing skills being extremely poor, as my family describes them they are plain laughable, I hit a seven instead of a four, then I missed it when I proof-read. Based on your typing we must share in this same affliction. I am sorry for the misstatement.
I strongly disagree with your statement, “the truth is that almost everything you post is at best a half-truth that has been overly exaggerated”. That’s an exaggeration in its self much like when my grandchildren try to justify a thing by saying, “EVERYONE else is doing it, going to it, or has one”. It doesn’t work for them and it certainly doesn’t work for you.
You ask, “have you been present at every event that you have written about? if not, then where did you get your information? most likely from someone who told you that they knew something "for a fact", when in reality they don't know either”. There have been very few events that I have written about that I was not personally present at. There are other events that I have relied on the word of very trusted and proven friends to inform me. At no time have I written a statement based on the word of an unidentified person without supportive evidence from at least one other source. Now would you suggest the name of any media reporter at any level that has not reported on activities they were not personally involved in? Of course you can’t. Do you actually think Bubba personally sees everything he reports on the radio? Every newsroom is made up of any number of people who are gathering the news of the day. What I do is make comments on events I have knowledge of then place my name with the statement so if there is a dispute the matter can easily and quickly be addressed with me personally. That’s very different from trying to address an issue with an unknown person who has the opportunity to make any kind of statement and never be concerned with having to face any consequences from those statements.
You state, “the only way to post the truth is to know every side of the story, to speak to everyone involved, and i know you haven't done that about most of the people that you have ridiculed and defamed on this blog. some of the people you've written about you've barely ever even spoken to. you can claim all you want that this isn't the case, but you and I and everyone with any common sense knows that to be right.” If your hypothesis was true then there would probably never be any local stories about any world leader or state leader for that matter. I never claimed to personally know all the people I have written about but I have thoroughly examined their behaviors and it is behavior I have written about seldom them personally. If anyone feels that I have defamed them they have the option of addressing the issue directly with me as I identify myself on my postings. They also have the option of taking legal action if they choose. To this date no one has contacted me about either action being taken.
You state, “the only question is whether you intentionally mislead people with your exaggerations or simply do so because you don't know any better”. Once again you make accusatory assumptions. Ask yourself this simple question, would a person intentionally seek to mislead another then make his identity well known by signing his name. Have I made mistakes, of course, do you know anyone who hasn’t I don’t. Here’s the thing, when I have made mistakes, you don’t have to wonder who it was that made that mistake my name is right there, and when they have been revealed I have tried to clarify, correct and/or apologize. If you have suggestions on how to better address mistakes please tell me and attach your real name.
You state, “Just because someone "says" that's correct doesn't mean that it is but my point is that without the actual documentation to verify that it is correct, you can't state it as the truth”. You will find very few people more unwilling to accept something on its face value than me. That’s the reason I ask so many questions and have become an irritant in the side of some. Now having said that, there are many things that I and every other person on this planet accept as true without any documentation. I accept that my car will start when I get in it and turn the key in the ignition, I have no document to support that belief but I still go get in the car and turn the key. I have no document saying tomorrow will come, in fact I have documentation that it may not come, yet I look forward to its arrival.
You state, “You shouldn't post something and claim it to be true unless you have the actual documentation to prove it in hand, and my guess is that 90% of the time you don't.” Would you accept those same conditions for yourself? Apparently not, as you make an absurd statement and I can guarantee you do not have the documentation to prove it. In fact I’ll go a step further I’ll give you $500.00 if you can prove 90% of what I have posted on this blog or written in the newspaper is not true. Allen Barrett

I am new to this blog but what I have read so far, is this: Mr. Barrett and Kendrick are only letting the public know things that are going on that seem to be "swept under the rug". What is the problem??? I admire anyone who stands up for the public and themselves. Its called being a person of their convictions for themselves and others.

Your remarks about the Great One (aka...wab) are admorable, but please don't confuse standing up for the little man with jealousy and envy along with a healthy dose of egotism.

I try never to confuse standing up for the little man with hiding silent in a corner trembling. I never confuse jealousy and envy with concern and criticism. I always know the difference between ego and confidence. What I said about Mr. B. I stand by. He is courageous, concerned and confident you should try those characteristics sometime they are a big step up from your usual fearful, jealous, envious, insecurities.

I think you are confusing troublemaking with honor and courage for stupidity. But you are somewhat correct about your hero's confidence. However, there is a more than subtle difference between confidence and conceit. Think.

What troublemaking? Courage to do the right thing has always been seen by those without it as stupidity. There has never been a medal awarded for heroism that someone didn't declare those actions to be stupid.
As for confusing conceit with confidence perhaps you could define those terms for me.
Clearly I have not seen conceit, an exaggerated opinion of oneself, in Mr B.
I have seen confidence, a firm belief and trust in his own knowledge of right and wrong, that gives him a certain level of assurance that causes some to be intimidated by that confidence.

If you can't see any of the arrogance and conceit, then I strongly suggest you get not only an eye examination but a brain scan. You surely jest, right?

I asked you to define conceit and confidence but suppose that would require too much substance when all you can give is recycled air that doesn't smell all that great.

All you have to do is get a dictionary and look up the definitions. Or, does that require too much substance and mental energy on your part?

Then on Thursday, December 06, 2007 5:21:00 PM, you also said, "...they are a big step up from your usual...."

If you are new to the blog as you say, then how do you know what the other person's 'usual' is? Just another example of an attempt to mislead people into believing that more people read this blog than really do and make people think that Mr. Barrett has more supporters than he really does. Anyone with any common sense knows the truth. And that is, that most everyone with the exception of only a few log on to this blog only to get a laugh. They can't wait to see what nonsense wab and the rest of the posers post next.

To "annoy must" It doesn't matter if you and anyone else are the same person it's only in your mind that you have anything worthwhile to say, that is why you continue to hide behind the anonymous label.
It does not matter how many people believe or refuse to believe what I have written my standards of integrity must satisfy me and part of that is the simple matter of writing the truth. As of yet you have failed to offer anything productive or in rebuttal to the things I write. You only seek to get personal and make absurd assumptions without anything to support you while ignoring the facts with supportive documentation that I offer. As has been stated before several times by different posters, you are very simply a coward and a liar hiding behind an anonymous glass wall. If you could grow up and become productive you might find some reason to stand up straight instead of slumping in the shadows. Allen Barrett

Why don't you petition Kendrick to remove the anonymous feature of this blog since it bothers you so much? It has been explained time after time that there are reasons why some people have to post anonymously. Kendrick has the good sense to understand that. Yet, you continue harping on that and boasting because you sign your name.
Your standards of integrity must be fairly low since you find no problem with name-calling. You called me three names (coward, liar, and annony-must) in the above post. Or, were you simply describing my behavior again?

To anonymous of the 24 Dec 10:06 post. As I have said several times I have no problem with anyone posting as anonymous and I understand why many must post anonymously. My problem is when a person makes unfounded personal attacks, starts and spreads vicious lies and groundless rumors then hides behind the anonymous label. Even after I have explained why I choose not to post anonymously you refuse to accept it but I’ll try one more time. It is not a boast, it would be much easier to have never put my name on a single post but I do it because I want people to be able to come to me if they see something I post they feel is wrong or in error. I have posted nothing without identifying myself and I have posted nothing that I did not back up or apologize for when I was proven wrong. Yes, you are right the names I have used in referring to you have been describing your behavior. Allen Barrett

What "unfounded" personal attacks have I made on you? What vicious lies and rumors have I started? As I have told you previously, I've not accused you of bar-hopping, stealing, and the like, so, I've not attacked you in a personal way. In addition, I have never called you a liar and a crook as you have done to people like Roger Reedy, Mr. Jackson, Mrs. Vanzant, and on and on. Now have I?
I have also tried at length and at various times to help clear up your misunderstandings as to what my problem is with you.. And, I might add that, once again, it is nothing personal. I would dislike the "qualities" of arrogance, egotism and feelings of superiority in anybody, so don't take my pointing those out to you as a personal attack. Once again, you have misunderstood my intentions.
I sometimes wonder why I keep matching wits with you over these relatively simple concepts. It may be that I am absolutely bewildered that you have yet to grasp them and continue to accuse me of personally attacking you.

Hey dumbo, don't you think saying that you are matching wits with wab is a rather arrogant, egotistical statement on your part. I've read many entries from each of you and you don't come close to matching his wit or intelligence. He whacks you with supported facts while you come back whining about your feelings about him. You need to take your feelings and take a trip to "Brokeback Mountain".

No, my statement about matching wits with your hero and idol is a simple declaration that I grow tired of continually having to give him spankings when he opens the door. But I will NOT allow him to get away with his meanness and condescension toward those he resents. I'll challenge him everytime he does that, and it is becoming apparent that I've had some measure of success in doing so. He is not nearly as bad as he used to be about talking down to people and calling them names if their opinions differ from his.

By the way, have you been to Brokeback Mountain or just wish you could go? Interesting that you would inject something like that into your comments. Is it because of some latent trait you find disturbing about yourself or an attempt to charm the audience with your intellect? Laughable once again.

Sorry I didn’t respond earlier but I was laughing so hard at your comment about you spanking WAB that I couldn’t get to my computer. The only way you could spank him is in your mind and I’m sure there is enough room in there because there’s obviously no brain to get in the way. You’ll never be able to match wits with wab, you see wab is a full wit and you’ll never be more than a half-wit.
Time to wake up dumbo, he hasn’t been mean or condescending only truthful, but I can understand how you wouldn’t recognize such a thing living in your fantasy world as you do. Hey all my traits were early not latent and you’re the one who keeps talking about spanking other men not me. All my wiring is DC I only run one way not AC/DC.

Again, you miss the simplest of points. You are the one whose mind is apparently fixated on some psycho-sexual meaning of the term "spankings" when applied to your idol.
Perhaps your definitions of "meanness" and "condescension" are different from mine. Do you honestly think that talking down to people as if they are stupid or calling them names is appropriate behavior? That smacks of the highest degree of arrogance when opinions are in play.
I wish we could move past all this bickering, but I cannot sit quietly by when this sort of thing is happening with regularity (no reference there to bodily functions).

I haven’t been reading this far down on the blog in the last few days, it seems I better start. Someone mentioned that I should read this entry. I wasn’t surprised that anonymous has continued to berate me without anything factual to support his absurd assertions.
Anonymous you said on Dec 26 at 12:31pm , “I have never called you a liar and a crook as you have done to people like Roger Reedy, Mr. Jackson, Mrs. Vanzant, and on and on. Now have I?
I don’t know if you simply have no respect for truth or if you are just so full of yourself you think you can just make up stuff and it becomes reality. Now you claim that I have called Roger Reedy a liar. One of the reasons, as I’ve told you before, I post with my name is because I feel a responsibility for what I write. You read what I write and if you don’t like it you know were it came from, if you feel it’s untrue or unfair you have the opportunity to challenge me. Now read real close anonymous, I have never retreated from having called Mr. Jackson and Mrs. Vanzant a liar. I have not referred to them as liars behind their back but to their faces and offered up the evidence to prove it. In the case of Mr. Jackson he was even offered the opportunity to public ally change his statement when he refused I called him a liar. Neither had to wonder why I called them that nor did they have to wonder who or what was said.
Now in the case with Mr. Reedy I give you the same opportunity I just mentioned giving Mr. Jackson. I can accept your apology and trust your statement was a bit of misspeak. On the other hand unless you can show proof, and I know you can’t because there is none, I called him a liar you are a despicable, disgusting liar. There are many things that Mr. Reedy and I disagree on, there are also many that we agree on. Regardless of how I feel about a matter, Mr. Reedy has expressed the same idea to me; we are civil and respectful toward each other. I’ll go a step further and said, I believe, even when I disagree with him, that he is doing what he truly thinks is right. I consider him to be one of the better commissioners and easy to approach. To make it real clear for you, I have not called Mr. Roger Reedy a liar period. Allen Barrett

I'm not berating you as you charge. I am simply describing your behavior. THAT is what I am berating, yet you think it a personal attack. Well, according to that logic, any constructive criticism could be perceived as an attack. How is pointing out the name-calling an absurd assertion? It would only be absurd if it were untrue.
You say "now read real close, anonymous." Can you not see a tiny bit of arrogance in that statement? I use that merely as an example in "support of my position" as you call it.
Are you basing this entire post on whether or not you called Roger Reedy a liar? I think what I said was that you have called people like Mrs. Vanzant, Mr. Jackson, and Roger Reedy liars. I just threw out some names for example. If Roger was not to have been among them, then so be it. But the point was made. Regardless, I have neither the time nor the inclination to go back and read all the old posts from start to finish to prove or disprove the point that you HAVE in fact called people liars on this blog.
