Vanzant Supporter Vandalizing Candidates Signs?
It is now revealed that the person responsible for vandalizing political signs is a staunch supporter of Janet Vanzant. Did Mrs Vanzant know about the vandalizing? I don't know and I hope not. Did she order the signs removed? I don't know and I certainly hope not. Does this reflect negatively on Mrs Vanzant? Yes it does. While no candidate can control all the actions of their supporters one must wonder in light of comments on this blog by Vanzant supporters just what instructions, if any, she has given her supporters. One thing for certain is this reveals a very low level of leadership in the Vanzant camp.

Interesting...very interesting. Am I surprised? NO! This can't be good for the other candidates running in WAB's district. Could this have been a group effort of all candidates in that district? When will it be revealed who the culprit was? I can hardly wait to find out!

They were so close to her's that you actually could not see her sign- stayed that way for several days before being someone removed them. On 20 July 2010 at approximately 9:00 PM a criminal summons for vandalism of political signs was issued by Judicial Commissioner Chapman for Thomas Clayton (Clay) McAlister.
Mr. McAlister is a retired Highway Patrol Officer and former Judicial Commissioner. He currently is serving on the Minor Hill Water Board having been appointed by current County Executive Janet Vanzant.
Mr. Clay McAlister was video taped as he stopped his vehicle on Mills Street and proceeded to take a political sign belonging to Allen Barrett a candidate for 7th District Commissioner and critic of the County Executive, pull it from the ground and toss it into the weeds.
Mr. McAlister, a staunch supporter and campaign worker for Mrs. Vanzant’s re-election, was confronted and became extremely angry, red faced and vulgar.
Lt. Glossup of the Pulaski Police Department responded to the call and handled the situation in a very professional manner.
Mr. McAlister now has ten days to report for booking at the county jail and then appear in court.
The video was so clear and compelling there was no questions as to what was being done and by whom. As a close ally, supporter and beneficiary of Mrs Vanzant she must carry some of the responsibility for his actions.

One rogue extremist supporter of any candidate can really cause a stir, yes? I doubt that any "orders" were given to the sign stealer by anyone except maybe Bud Weiser. I would be upset if I were running for office and I learned that my signs were being pulled and tossed, but I don't think I would be wasting money or time putting signs around town. I would put my effort into more engaging methods of political communication. But that will have to wait 4 years.

Let's see if Vanzant throws Clay under the bus. Will she stand in defense of him or will she distance herself for the sake of her campaign. The damage is really already done. This is what I said about Vanzant will be her own undoing. Vanzant publicly stated that she had spoke to Kyle Helton and advised him that she wanted anyone caught stealing her signs prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. So, I have got to ask, does that mean that anyone should be prosecuted for stealing or vandalizing signs regardless of who the perpetrator or candidate is or did it only apply to those who steal or vandalize her signs? Many candidates have experienced their signs going missing. It could be the state or county could have picked them up. Who knows? Barrett on the other hand has proof. Everyone knows that Clay supports Vanznat. Everyone also knows that Vanzant doesn't like WAB. This blog proves how unhappy Vanzant supporters are with WAB sign locations. WAB was the first candidate to put signs on Mill Street. If anyone disputes this, it would be because they are either lying or the time that another candidate in that district placed their signs there, WAB's signs were off a 25 foot drop where they were tossed. I personally witnessed WAB signs there first and so did other citizens. So, what will it be? How will Vanzant wiggle out of this one?

Here's the plan:
Step 1. Get rid of Mrs. Vanzant at all costs. It doesn't matter who. They just need her out of the way before Step 2. Get rid of those commissioners who also stand in their way. This will also be attempted by trashing and smearing as well. This will need to be done before they can move to Step 3.
Step 3. Try to convince county voters that we must have a county charter. We don't need that.

If the only way to prove vandalism is to catch a person in the act then it seems cameras as Mrs Vanzant has claimed to be using is the only way it can be done. If you have been reading my posts, you may recall that I even offered that deal to barrett and company. That is, if they would stop the trash and smear campaign, I would disappear off this blog. But they won't stop for one day. And I for one will not let them go unchallenged. As I have said, what I am doing in opposing such tar-and-feather tactics is, in my honest opinion, not only morally right but justified in the eyes of the Lord. If that makes me appear high-and-mighty, I think you have misjudged me. My intentions are honorable.

There are many people who dont listen to WKSR news. Lots of homes are unable to get reception. There are many families who dont subscribe to the newspaper. Lots of those simply cant afford it. Sometimes Nashville stations are the only way for some to receive news. Having said that, dont forget the TV station personnel look at local websites and pick up news from there. So, given the incident in Williamson county on stolen signs its inevitable this Giles county incident would be broadcast from Nashville.

I am not in full disagreement with you but here's the thing you miss, I did contact WKSR and the Pulaski Citizen before contacting Nashville stations. The Citizen will not be published again until next Tuesday and I think WKSR waited until after the criminal summons was delivered this afternoon, but I don't know for certain.
While I am the victim of a crime I certainly do not place myself in the victimized category. A habitual victim would not have taken the steps I did to bring a criminal to justice.
I love this county also and as I have said before this county is the only place in my lifetime that I was able to choose as my home. I have a loyalty as well but my loyalty does not extend into the area of wrong. To me a greater loyalty is required to face the wrong and work toward making it right and unrepeatable if possible.

Did Mr. McAlister remove the 2 signs that you placed within inches on either side of Mrs Vanzant's sign. If those are in fact the ones that were removed, then you should be arrested. While not physically removing her sign, you in fact negated any usefulness of her's by obstruction.

Thanks so very very much for your excellent post. I planned to write something this morning along those lines but you said it a lot better than I could. What I dont understand about some folk's mentality is = knowing stealing or tampering with election signs is a punishable crime, why do you condone that it is ok for a former highway patrol officer, former county magistrate and current county appointed official (Minor Hill Water District)to commit said crime and receive praise for doing so. Yet Mr. Barrett solves the crime and becomes the bad guy. Obviously its because Mr. Barrett is the hero and you cant stand it or you are embarrassed because this 'upstanding pillar" of the community was appointed by your heroine and that you cant take. One set of standards for the average citizens and another set of standards for well known figures in Giles county?

Look, I was with the individual who first put the Vanzant sign by that tree and there were NONE of your signs there close to it. And I also know for a fact that Terry Harwell's sign was up before you placed yours on both sides of it. You did that to both Mrs. Vanzant's sign as well as Terry's sign. Last evening, your signs were still there, crowding both sides of Terry Harwell's sign. You say I go on and on about this, but it speaks volumes about your character. What you did is not a petty crime. If anyone should have been arrested, it is you. And while tampering with a candidate's signs may be a punishable offense, trying to hide another's signs with yours SHOULD be treated the same way.
You say you solved the crime? I think you set the whole thing up. Why else would you be out there with a video camera.? I think you provoked this situation just as I believe you did when that lawyer used the "finger" on your chest to get you out of his face. First let me say I have no intention of shutting down this blog. I am very discouraged with the misuse that is taking place and the cowardice of some who hide behind the anonymous title while attacking others without any supportive reasoning at all. You address your post to me but I fear you’ve really lost it because your post makes absolutely no sense in reference to me. There are witnesses that saw my signs before there were other signs in that area. I don’t doubt that my sign wasn’t in the place you claim when placing a Vanzant sign, while it had been there it was in the weeds after the Vanzant sign was placed. I pulled it out of the weeds and replaced it as close to its original position as I could. It was again pulled up and thrown into the weeds. This was done several times before I placed two signs approximately two feet on either side of her sign. They were removed twice and I replaced them with four.
Terry’s sign was one of the last to be placed between the bridge and the car lot that is simply indisputable there are far too many witnesses. I have to challenge your observation of Terry’s sign being crowded as his sign is twice the size of mine. I haven’t said anything about you going on and on about anything other than your hypocritical lying.
Here’s what it says about my character I will not be intimidated or pushed around by you or your bunch of goons.
You think I “set the whole thing up” what an amazing revelation. I forced Mr. McAlister to stop his truck in the middle of a traffic lane, forced him out of his vehicle made him walk around the front of the truck go to the signs pull my sign up and throw it into the weeds. Then I forced him back into his truck made him make a U-turn on Mill Street and stop on the other side, park, get out and start to repeat the same act again. Amazing, simply amazing. Mr. McAlister made the statement that he was going to move Terry Harwell’s sign. With Terry’s sign attached to two metal fence post driven into the ground could you help me understand how he was going to do that without any tools and with out tearing up the sign?
Your enabling wrongdoing should have alerted me that you have no respect for the law but still it surprised & disappointed me that you would be so supportive of a lawbreaker and try to shift the blame on the one who caught the vandal.
Where did I lie or accuse Mrs Vanzant of being involved in this situation? As for questioning your Christianity I have been consistent in my stating no man has the authority or responsibility to question another’s relationship with God, that is between them and God. Please don’t make up stuff your twisted half truths are sufficient. The truth is you are the one who not only has questioned my Christianity but also my position as a minister, and have even gone so far as to state for whom I pray, and define my motivations. I'm not a fan or yours, but I don't dislike you either. But I do think it was pretty tacky of you to basically cover up the Vanzant signs on Mill Street the way you did last week. You basically put a bunch of your signs on both sides of hers so no one could see hers. I know you have the right to put your signs almost anywhere you want, but if you want other people to run a clean campaign, then you need to set an example with your actions and not just your words. I'm a Scott Stewart supporter, so I don't even want Vanzant to win, but come on and grow up a little bit. You aren't happy unless you are being a pain in the rump to someone. Why don't you try to run for election based on your qualifications and beliefs instead of constantly bashing everyone else. I think you've got some good ideas, but your delivery sucks to say the least. The old saying about honey and vinegar is true. If you would put all that aggression you have towards the commission and county executive towards trying to work with them and slowly get them to understand your points of view (instead of trying to ram it down their throats), you could be a good/great commissioner. Excellent post, although I am a Vanzant supporter. He would have people think that Mrs. Vanzant makes decisions for the county all by herself without any input from the commission. That is simply not true. She presides over the commission and votes only when it is necessary.

From what I have been able to find out, the video doesn't incriminate Mr. McAlister at all. So what happens if that's true. Looks like someone is in some trouble. Just hearsay at this point.
I don't know if Mrs Vanzant's people does this but one thing I do not like is campaign workers going around leaving their candidates campaign ad in some form or another cellophane TAPED to everyone's front door. It's even worse when the person has to scrape it off or the glue off the tape is left behind so in that case it's defacing private property.
That is a SIGN and it is illegal to attach a sign to private property in such a fashion without permission. It is also illegal to leave ANY material of ANY kind in peoples mail boxes that has not been properly paid and posted through the post office an that is a $500.00 fine for private interests and $1,000 for public interests for each offense.
I don't mind them leaving their campaign ad in the chair or at the base of the door or at the top of the steps as a lot of interests distribute literature in that unoffensive way. I even keep a little weight weighing there to put on top of stuff so that the wind doesn't catch it but no one ever uses it and I got to pick it up out of the yard or in the rain gutter in front of the house.
If I get those campaign ads stuck to my house again I'm going to file a police report for physically attaching a sign to my house and then sue the candidate and I don't care who they are, who they know, what kind of connections they have or how much money they have. If it shows up in the mailbox I'll make sure that the letter carrier takes it and files the proper complaints since that's how that works, the letter carrier takes the evidence out of the mailbox and back to the office on College St..

I see now where you have twice admitted to spreading rumors and oddly seem quite proud of it. Is that something GOD led you to do? I am not an attorney, but I am smart enough to know that while a criminal case is being investigated, the police are not going to release the evidence to the general public to play with. I doubt seriously your truthfullness when you posted in one of your multiple personalities that you spoke with Officer McAllistar, but if you did and he denied being guilty, what did you expect him to say? Well, DUH? Don't you think he has probably lawyer-ed up by now, and even I with my limited knowledge of criminal law, would guess that would be one of the first instructions that an attorney gave his/her client. Happened to be in two other counties yesterday. Both covered up with political signs. Many many many lapping over each other. Some of this would be caused by weather. But lets face it, who cares a butt. No one. Not even the candidates. Most people who stay informed have known since candidates decided to run who we would vote for. Why is everyone blasting WAB for what they think is on the tape. It's my understanding that the proper authorities have the tape. I am 5:14, the one who wants to see the video so I can see who is telling the truth in this matter. You state "the police are not going to release the evidence to the general public to play with." Surely Mr. Barrett made a copy of the tape before giving it to the police. What happens if that tape is lost or is inadvertently destroyed? If Mr. Barrett did make a copy, I would like for him to post it on this blog just like he did with his previous case with the lawyer he had arrested for assault. There are many instances where video tapes are leaked before a trial, i.e. the Rodney King case from several years ago. Again Mr. Barrett, please show me the video.

I was wondering why the police had Mr McAlister arrested for vandalism when the criminal code requires for there to be an act of vandalism, there must be property destroyed which causes the victim monetary damages. Meaning Barrett would have to be out some amount of money. It seems picking your sign up out of the weeds and putting it back in the ground doesn't cost you anything but a little effort.
What if the scenerio was different. For instance, what if someone was mowing their yard and simply took the sign up and tossed it to the side with the intent to put it back up when they are finished mowing but forgot to do so. Would that person be arrested too. If not, how is it determined when someone has broken the law and someone has not. The reason I pose these questions is because I have been victimized by the lies told by Dean Glossup in the past and I feel McAlister is just another victim like I was.
Mr. McAlister is the victim, but barrett was trying to assume that role. I have faith that right always wins out over wrong, and I feel confident that Mr. McAlister will have final justice and the last laugh. His character has been smeared, and it shouldn't go unpunished. I don't think it will.

Summons Served In Campaign Sign Dispute

A summons was served on Giles County resident Thomas Clayton McAlister yesterday. According to the summons, McAlister did remove from display, a sign belonging to Allen Barrett, candidate for the District 7 commission seat. The summons went on to say that the act did cause a substantial inconvenience to the owner. McAlister is charged with vandalism in the incident.
The summons was issued by Judicial Commissioner Charles Chapman.
Barrett alleges that McAlister stopped his vehicle on Mill Street and proceeded to take a political sign, pull it from the ground and toss it into the weeds.
McAlister claims that the only sign he touched was that of a candidate running for County Executive. McAlister told WKSR that he moved the sign approximately 40 feet away from the Barrett signs and at no time touched any other signs in the area.
Lt. Dean Glossup of the Pulaski Police Department responded to the call and investigated the incident.
Come on Mr. Barrett, please put the video on the blog so we can see for ourselves. Then we won't have all this he said/he said. The truth will come out sooner or later, why not make it sooner?
Be patient 10:44. We will all see in good time. It took the Police Dept. long enough to release it to the media. Stall tactic maybe? If the police dept. is smart, which I am not too sure of considering how they have handled situations recently, they will not balk on this matter and be forthright with the citizens. Seems more often than not, some on our police force are catering to some and discriminating against others. Does the police dept. really want or need another black eye??

I will go to bat for Allen Barrett for once. I travel the Minor Hill Road daily, or in town know as Mill Street. Mr. Barrett was the first political candidate to place his signs in the area heading north as you approach the bridge. His signs would be removed and he would place them back.
Then Terry Harwell's sign pops up in this location, then Scott Stewart's sign's and last but not least Janet Vanzant's sign's.
It's ashamed that Mr.Barrett was there first so he laid claim to this spot. As it always goes in Giles County, it makes Allen look evil for trying to protect this area for his sign's. I am with you on this one Mr. Barrett. Don't let the TROUBLEMAKER'S as they label you, get to you on this one.

Let's get real now. You know as well as I do that barrett can lay no claim to that entire area across the bridge on Mill Street. Even if his signs were there first, there's absolutely nothing wrong with other candidates' signs being placed there.
I too travel that road fairly often, (especially as of late) to see what shenannigans barrett will try to pull next. He appears to want to pass himself off as the victim, but, in reality, he caused this problem.

Mr. Harwell had to put his sign up higher in order to prevent barrett's signs from obstructing it's viewing. That's not spin; it happens to be the truth. If she is such a laughing stock among them, wonder why they elected her to serve as their chairman? Maybe it's because they recognize her as a strong leader as do the majority of Giles Countians, a fact which will be played out on election day.

The complaint came from signs going missing. So, I would say it was the Harwell and Vanzant clan that started complaining first. They seem to think that no ones sign should be anywhere remotely close to their signs, especially Barrett's. Yes, that is childish behavior on their part. How would either of those 2 candidates like to come along and see their sign was gone and learn you had to recover it from a 20 ft drop where it had been tossed. Both of these candidates are causing much speculation about their role in this issue with Barrett because they have been the ones to cry the loudest. Take a look around this county and you will see locations where candidates signs are one on top of the other. What difference does it make as long as your sign is placed and stays their without some vandal coming along and either removing it or destroying it. Whine and moan all you want you. It isn't either of these two candidates who have had their sign unjustly removed. Barrett's sign was there first and the reason I say this is only because someone else said another candidates was there first. Also, no one is claiming that other candidates can't place their signs there as well. Who in their right mind would think that? But,to have to worry that someone is going to come along and toss your sign because they do not like you and are worried you will get elected is very childish behavior. It just tells me that there is worry and doubt about Barrett being elected and now you can expect the whole situation to gain Barrett a little more respect than he once had because everyone has tried to portray him in a bad light. But the orignal intent was to create a place (and I am quoting Kendrick) "to identify problems of concern to the people of Giles County, to discuss them in a gentlemanly and civil manner, while referring to the facts and giving evidence to back up whatever claims are made, making logical arguments that avoid any use of fallacy, and, hopefully, to come together in agreement, and find a positive solution to the problem at hand." I was hoping we might could return to this type of discussion but if moving policical signs is a BIG issue to you, then keep on posting. It IS your right.
Yes, logging off the blog is an option but I am choosing to stay on, read, and post when I deem necessary, at least until after this election. If the blog continues the downward path it has over the last few years (this is MY opinion, you have your own), then yes I will be logging off and not returning. Sorry to even mention this but I feel compelled. Several of Scott Stewart's signs have been removed, and I refer to the ones I placed so I know exactly where I put them. When I noticed they were missing I mooched around the weeds and bushes but they appear to have grown legs and walked! Will people never learn? I'll be glad if this McAlister incident is published in this week's newspaper so it may serve as a warning to others who think it funny to indulge in stealing.

I think you are probably right. Neither Mrs. Vanzant nor her opponent can prevent their supporters from engaging in unacceptable behavior. This blog alone proves that. Mrs. Vanzant has been called every name in the book here, and those attacks are unrelenting by a handful of individuals intent on destroying her. But neither candidate can control the actions of others.
I too would like to see this blog return to a time when issues were discussed in a gentlemanly and civil manner. And the blogmaster is one of the biggest players when it comes to name-calling, insults, and accusaions. That being the case, how can we expect more civility. We probably can't until at least after the election. Then I fear he and the same ones will be attacking Mrs. Vanzant for four more years.

I would disagree with your post. I think the only people who are getting tired of the so-called squabbling are the few who have perpetuated this smear and destroy camppaign against Mrs. Vanzant. They thought they could go unchallenged with their attacks.
I think Mrs. Vanzant has perpetuated the smear campaign. I am not a WAB supporter. I have worked with her, and with many other civic and social groups and have. I have found her to be worthy of most negative discussions about her. If you don't believe me, then test her. Find two friends who are on different sides of an issue. Question: Mr. Barrett put the first 2 signs up on the right side going out of town across the bridge on the Minor Hill Road and placed them a foot apart; and then, Mrs. Vanzant comes along and puts her single sign of approximately the same size between Mr. Barretts signs where hers will not be seen at all? Is that correct - as far as sign positioning and time line?

No, that is not true. I know FOR AN ABSOLUTE FACT that there were no barrett signs close to Mrs. Vanzant's sign when it was placed beside that tree.
The person who perpetuated all this sign caper drama is none other than allen barrett. By the way, I believe he is also the one primarily responsible for the attack and smear campaign against Mrs. Vanzant.
Again, I just hope Giles County voters see who the real perpetuators and troublemakers are. And these are the same ones who hope to be able to run things eventually. Let's stop them now. It's important that you realize and appreciate how vital it is to re-elect Mrs. Vanzant in August. Since Mr Barret is one of the very few people who signs his name on his entries I certainly find him the more credible. I also find it unusual that for the past several days there have been dozens of complaints about Mr Barrett without one credible source of support and Mr Barret hasn't responded to any of these things.

You find barrett credible? Are you kidding? In my opinion, he has lost all credibility both as preacher and as a political candidate. I believe he is the primary souce of the trouble and hatred that is now running rampant in Giles County. Oh, I find him quite incredible.
I too have wondered why barrett hasn't been back on here spewing his venom in the past few days. Maybe he is out of town or perhaps he has been advised to keep a low profile for the time being. Otherwise, he would be right here inuslting, accusing, and calling names.

We already have those qualities in Mrs. Vanzant, although these people would have you believe she is the worst thing that's ever happened to Giles County. Don't let them fool you. I hope you can see what they are trying to do.Let's stop them cold by re-electing Mrs. Vanzant.
Will they stop attacking her for the next four years? Probably not, because they have said they will never support her. They admitted that. But that's ok. Mrs. Vanzant has done a splendid job in preventing their disruptions. She will do so in the future as well.
They keep saying Mrs. Vanzant is not one to listen to ALL the people, and that is a lie. She listens. But, at the same time, she will not allow a small group of people to push her around.
We have elections to give people a different choice. There is nothing wrong with other people running for the office someone else holds.
Several in Giles County don't have anyone running against them. They are lucky. I'm sure they are doing a good job. With the economy the way it is I'm surprise no one is running against them no matter how good a job they are doing.
If someone is running against you don't feel bad you can't please everybody all the time. I wish there was a term limit on how many years anyone can hold office.
Anyone has the right to run against you, except it.

If given the opportunity to be elected as Giles County Executive you can depend on Mr. Stewart to offer factual data of his accomplishments over his term serving our county. Mr. Stewart has been very accessible to citizens over the duration of his campaign to meet and talk with them. He has went out into the community seeking your support. It means a great deal to Mr. Stewart to seek knowledge and and understanding of what Giles County citizens needs are in order to be able to serve them better. At every community function that Mr. Stewart has attended he has been willing to answer and listen to any questions and concerns citizens may have. Mr. Stewart truly wants transparency in our county government. By his involvement throughout this campaign, he has proven himself as a leader and as one who will take the time to listen to the voices and concerns of the citizens of Giles County.

Barrett is sipping dream tea and smiling. He is smiling because all this sign crap is getting him what he wants. Publicity and nothing more. He has found a free way to get his name on the air waves and in the newspaper. We are all idiots for continuing to even talk about it. He already had signs near the bridge. So you folks who saw them said. When other candidates put theirs up he had to run back to the playground and put his up in front of those. Like he wanted to one up them. Can we say childish. Little man syndrome. He is so quick to post his other little videos on here. So stick it on here pal. Show us which man is telling the truth. Buddy believe me when I say if Barrett could prove it he would have already posted it on here for the world to see. Excellent post! I believe you are exactly right. And NO, we do not need that kind of stinking thinking. It just astounds me how people can defend him. I too believe he would have gladly posted the video on this trashy blog if he had anything.

Do you wonder why barrett suddenly stopped posting his venom on this blog? Well, he isn't posting posting under his own name for sure. Has he been advised to chill out for now in light of the "sign caper"? I wonder.
To those who have been worried about me not posting and dreaming up reasons to justify your own small mindedness and support for wrongdoing. I have simply been out of town as many of you know due to my previous postings. I have and will continue to post only under my own name and any post you have questions about please call me for discussion I will answer any and all questions.
So the question of the tape is on the mind of folks. Have you ever heard the old saying, give a crook enough rope and he'll hang himself.
I will not go into details at this moment but I can assure you the rope is much longer and the noose is being tied. The police have had a cope of the tape almost since the incident. I will not say how many copies I made before giving it to the police but any alterations or destruction or lose will be easily identified to other agencies. You had better be able to prove beyond a doubt that Mr. McAlister is the crook you just vcalled him. More importantly, your video had better show his hands on your signs. He says he didn't touch them. I think you messed with the wrong one this time. I knew the day would come.
10:21 The video of the finger poke assault on Mr. Barrett by Mr. Cagle following the school board meeting was posted on the blog shortly after the meeting. Check the archives of the blog dated 2-11-07. If posting that video didn't affect the outcome of that trial, I wouldn't think posting the sign tampering video would affect this trial. If it would, then obviously don't post it. It will be Mr. Barrett who will decide whether or not to post the video. I hope he does. That will be the only way we will know for sure exactly what happened that night since each party involved has their own side to the story.
