Blog Was Closed For Repairs

The blog has been down for repairs by the main administrator. I have been just as frustrated as anyone about it being down and not knowing why, especially when topics and post were deleted. Last night I received a message that it had been closed for repairs and updating but should be back up sometime today. They stated that they would try to re-post the items that were deleted but could not guarantee it. Finally it came back but apparently the deleted items could not be re-posted by the administrator.

It is funny that every post that was deleted involved discussion about the lawyers fees and WAB costing the county money.

Are you trying to make enemies DAW? Because anything I may have agreed with you on is beginning to pale in comparison to your arrogant attitude. My suggestion to you is stick to presenting your facts and leave the attitude at the door. More people will continue to listen to you. I am assuming that is what you are wanting since you now post regularly on this blog.

Basically I was still stating a fact. Sorry that you were offended. Maybe you didn't catch the posts yesterday before the deleting happened.

DAW what do you call this next thread? "Just who Is costing The County Money?"
I read it yesterday and again today. It tells how much the county lawyer is charging and how much WAB's lawyer charged.

I have to agree with Friday, May 13, 2011 5:23:00 PM. I thought your post was good, but now they sound just like the enablers did.

I apologize 6:30, I just hated to see some peoples thoughts get deleted. Sometimes I get mad and lose my cool. All we can do is find out the amount of time the county's lawyer put into it. I am sure that every lawyer doesn't charge the same. If the posts were still up from yesterday, you would see that I said I couldn't blame WAB for the first lawsuit, but taking it to the state level is too much. I mean, how much is a commissioners seat worth? You can always run again in the next election.

Thanks,
DAW

At $150.00 an hour she has charged for 110 hours almost twice what my own attorney charged at the same $150.00 rate. Keep in mind this is after she went through the $40,000.00 base salary the county pays her.
If you think this is just about a Commissioners Seat you don't know anything about me other than what you have conjured in your own mind. It is about right and wrong, the abuse of power, incompetence and the arrogance of government officials toward citizens.

WAB, I just don't see why it would be worth $11k to you to try and prove people wrong? That doesn't count any costs you will have coming. You talk about citizens being broke and hurting and you spend that much money on this type of lawsuit. What happens if you are defeated at the state level? What have you really gained? I am being sincere, not arrogant.

A person who relies only on their own limited life experiences will never be able to understand why another person does the things they do. I have no real desire to prove anyone wrong I only desire those in authority do what is right, treat everyone with the same level of concern and respect and be held accountable.
Because I have a real concern for the welfare of others I'm willing to put my resources up in defense of that concern. $11,000.00 is a lot of money to me and it's hard to come by but justice is more important and even harder to come by in this county.
I'll not have any problem paying my property tax nor will I have a problem coming up with the money for a wheel tax but there are many who will be severely hurt by both these and who will speak for them if everyone waits for someone else to speak up. I've paid many utility bills and bought food for others over the years because the need they had was greater than my own.
I grew up in dire poverty as have many in this county and I remember the powerlessness of having empty pockets and feeling no one else cared.

Another sincere question, why do you like living in Giles County? I can only recall reading your letters in the paper for the last few years. Have you always made a stand against county politics? You really seem to have a hatred for some people. I guess I just don't understand how to make sense of it? In order to help some people you totally trash others. I think it is easier to help someone do their job well and give advice rather than trying to make them look stupid.

As of 2010 there were 29485 citizens in Giles County. From what I have been told, we have about 19000 registered voters. Only about 25% of registered voters voted in the last election. That shows me that most people don't even care about what goes on in the county. They want a job, a house, a family and to be left alone. Then you have everyone that will disagree with you. I mean the same for myself. That being people who disagree with what I think. So how many people are you defending and just how many of those care if you do?

I am trying to learn more about how you think. Don't take this as being demeaning.

Thanks,

DAW

DAW, I posted 6:30 and when I saw the blog yesterday it only had the main thread. I never saw anyone else's post. When I went back to it, it gave an error and said it would be down.
Barrett said he had to post again, so I hope if anyone else had posted they will post it again.

To DAW
As I have said many times, I have lived all over the world and experienced many different cultures. Of all the places I have lived Giles County is the only place I actually chose. Explaining why one chooses one place over another is as impossible as trying to explain why one chooses the person they marry.

Your question “have you always made a stand against county politics” while not necessarily demeaning does show a predetermined attitude of negativity. I have not “always” anything. I moved here in 1984 with no real interest in local politics and did not get involved for several years expecting, as do most others, that simply voting for who I thought was the most qualified was sufficient for running county business. I was wrong.
As I began to see more and more things I did not fully understand I began to ask questions. In the beginning answers were easy to come by because the questions were simple. The first major disappointment I experienced with a county official was when I asked why the Highway Department had paved the driveway of a private citizen and was told a straight out lie.
Tax increases without benefit increases, special treatment of private citizens by the highway department and other officials, seeing the gambling that took place in the Fire Station by government officials, the abusive way the zoning issue was handled, and the general arrogance I encountered among many officials pushed me into a more active role. It wasn’t until the outrageously arrogant abuse by the school board that I determined waiting for someone else to act was totally irresponsible on my part.
After many very courteous and restrained encounters with some Commissioners, officials and especially Mrs. Vanzant I realized what unrestrained liars some officials are.

You state, “You really seem to have a hatred for some people. I guess I just don't understand how to make sense of it? In order to help some people you totally trash others. I think it is easier to help someone do their job well and give advice rather than trying to make them look stupid.”

While I hate no one I do have a strong disgust for the behavior of anyone who looks you in the face and lies to you. I do have a strong dislike for the behavior of those who abuse their positions, and treat people differently based on their perceived wealth, social status, beliefs or physical characteristics.
To better understand me, as with anyone, you must know me and examine me without preconceived notions about me. I can tell you that I treat everyone with as much respect and courtesy as I am allowed to and that I will most often respond in kind. I value my integrity and will never intentionally lie to you but those are only words that must be observed to believe, so it comes back to knowing a person before you can better understand them. Now having said that, it comes down to if a person feels I have “trashed” them they merely need show where I treated them unjustly and I will make a very public apology.
I certainly agree it is easier to try and help a person gain understanding but when a person prefers to ignore all but their own view and can not explain what that view is, no one makes them look stupid they are stupid of their own choosing. If a drowning man refuses all attempts to rescue him whose fault is it if he drowns?
I would be very willing to sit down and talk with you or anyone else, just say when and where. I am open to most any opportunity to increase my own knowledge or help with the understanding of who I am.

You are a sad person if you think just because someone disagrees with someone they hate them. Is that perhaps the way you operate? I think YOU hate WAB because he gives irrefutable proof to back up the statements he makes. I think that cuts you and those of your ilk to the bone. Careful don't let that deep-seeded contempt you have for folks consume you.

Is it not alright to think a place would be a great place to live and after a few years find it wasn't as good as you thought.

You can't just move away, the next place might be as bad. You have a choice move, try to help make it a better place or just crawl in a whole and live with it.
It seems like most people are like me just cry but do nothing about it.

Your right 4:49. At least Barrett has the will and fearless enough to do something about the situation and you got to admire him for that. He has done more to get things made right in this county than anyone I know of.
They need to put Barrett in the paper as citizen of the week or citizen of the year would be better he's made more and better contributions to the county that most of the people they do put in there.

9:20,

I think it is time to put the word "enabler" to rest. It resembles the racism debate. If people would quit bringing it up, it would vanish forever. I read his/her posts and they were pointless.

I am asking a sincere question. WAB is a grown man. I think he knows that he could move if he wanted to do so. Sometimes when we get disgusted with things, we forget the real reason why we live or work in or at a certain place. Often times it is good to step back and realize that for every wrong there are ten things that are good. That is what I was thinking.

Thanks,
DAW

To DAW's Sat. 10:10 post.
I'm sorry if I failed to answer your original question to your satisfaction about "why I like living in Giles County".
I tried to answer by saying that it was as complex and difficult to answer as why a person marries the one they do.
I live in Giles County because I choose to. I have many very wonderful friends here, My children and grandchildren graduated high school here, there are many wonderful things about the county that I find very appealing. Because I find many reasons to stay here and enjoy life here does not mean there aren't many things that need and could be improved here. Would you move out of your house because a small leak developed in your roof or would you try to fix it? It's not in my DNA to give up, if it was I'd still be in the housing projects. I believe as a man, as a Christian and as an American I have a responsibility, as does everyone in those groups, to try and fix things that are obviously wrong. I love this country but there are some things about it that disgust me, should I move to Australia or try and fix the things that are wrong here? Australia has problems also. I own homes elsewhere in the state and could easily move there full time but this is where I choose to be and as a responsible member of the community I continue to have a responsibility to do what I understand is right, and try and hold accountable those who choose to do wrong and lessen the enjoyment of life here for all.
