School Board Meets And Gives Even Bigger Finger To The Public
It has been made very clear tonight, by the actions of this School Board, that not only do some not care what the people, they represent, have to say but they obviously do not care what State law says about Open Meetings the difference between a "Meeting" and a "Work Session" and the fact that you can not take a vote or make a decision in a "Work Session" without violating state law.
Mr. Wamble did an excellent job, even after the attempts at bullying him into silence. Mr. Wamble read the Tennessee Code Annotated covering "Open Meetings" and the fact that there is a difference between a "Work Session" and a "Meeting". He stated the fact that state law does not allow for decisions or votes to be made during a "Work Session" but only in an official "Meetings". Even when it was pointed out that more than a few times it had been stated by Board Members that they had decided to reduce the number of applicants for the Director's job. After Mr. Wamble made it very clear that the Board could either follow the law and do a revote or they could have a judge tell them to do a revote, the school board attorney tried to refocus the situation from being a decision to being a recommendation that was made by the Board in the Work Session but no one was having any part of that.
The Board showed even more arrogance when some members got up and walked out of the meeting without even a motion to adjourn much less a vote to adjourn. Clearly many on this Board not only have a personal agenda/vendetta they have no desire or interest in what the people they are supposed to represent want/believe or have to say.

I, for one, think the school board made the correct decision regarding Mr. Smith. I don't believe he's the right person for the job, for a number of reasons.

Yes it was very obvious they met. Yes Cindy Young is very much involved. "Nobodies". The sad part is they are not that smart to realize the huge mistakes they all made. Yes their reasons are, race and yes personal especially holt. Interviews aught to be interesting with these people. Pathetic! Cindy Young is in the same league. Every DOG has their day!

Let me just say this, last night, what happened at the school board meeting was a disgrace and an embarrassment to Giles County. The personal vendetta and race was clearly proven last night and went completely against the majority of our community.
I speak for others , we want to Thank Mr. Wamble for fighting for not only for his district but for the whole community. Also Rhonda Turner, listening and backing the community from the beginning.
For the "Nobodies" and the main Nobody, you clearly have 5 more members. Others to of course to name on a later date.
As the person said, the name is perfectly picked for your group! Until you can put your name on your blue letters, in most people's eyes, you are the laughing stock. Those issues shall be confronted.
For a man that can go through what he has gone through, proved to me and many others, he is the man for the job! Stripping a person that has 38 plus years, lived here his entire life. People have tried to point out his mistakes. Well many Mistakes were made, but the biggest one was made last night. Obviously a clear plan to throw him out. And yes Mr. Smith is SOMEBODY and as it showed last night and many more that could not attend, I am proud to be SOMEBODY. It has only just begun!
The problem is simple: too many “good old boys” and “things have always been done this way” people in positions of power. Nothing, and I mean nothing is going to change until you give the “boot” to these rednecks.
For heavens sake, you guys have an English teacher at Giles County High School who uses the word “hisself” all the time in and out of class. And for those who don’t know, there is no such word in the English language.
You need a Director who will put an end to this kind of crap. Otherwise the students are doomed.
Who walked out of the meeting before it was adjourned? They should be made to keep going out of Giles County. Can't take the heat get out of the kitchen.
If the meeting was video, it needs to be showed to the candidates wanting the job so they can see what to expect. These people can easily turn on them someday.
Why is it that Mr. Lovell is so adamant is trading in the school system lawn mowers that have only 900 hours of current use? He admitted to meeting with the dealer in Columbia and made an agreement to have the two mowers traded in for new mowers. The County was to have received $8,000.00 as a trade-in for the older mowers.
Why was Mr. Lovell so pissed when the school board chairman stated that they could not trade-in any equipment; rather, the "old" equipment is to the auctioned off at a public auction.
This raises the question ... Does Mr. Lovell have a "special" relationship with the mower dealer?
By the way .... commercial mowers are normally warranted for 1,500 hours of use. Our mowers have 900 hours.
At the beginning of the meeting, when Wamble pointed out that what was done at the work session went against the Sunshine law, Williamson jumped up hotheaded and motioned for the lawyer to join him behind the curtain. Again, trying to hide from the public. Lovell and McMasters jumped up to join them but didn't make it to the curtain because the audience called for them to come out of hiding. There were several occassions where Lovell tried to accuse Mr. Smith of trying to get rid of the lawnmowers when they could be serviced, but I'm proud that Mr. Smith quickly informed him that the Board made that decision, not him. Then when the public forum came up, Lovell tried to shut it down but again Mr. Smith showed him it was on the agenda. This made Lovell upset and he openly showed it. I am very proud of those who stood up and said something. This is nothing other than a personal vendetta/race issue, which the last gentleman who spoke reverberated. Again, Williamson jumped up hotheadedly and didn't even properly adjourn the meeting. It is sad that a man who has proven his educational worth is good enough to clean up a drunk womanizer's(I know this because he propositioned me and I'm married) mess and increase morale in every school I've visited, but can't be good enough to be put in a permanent position.
The meeting was never adjourned. And Daryl needs to read policy because public forum is always allowed to speak, so he has been breaking policy. Sitting in the back watching this was shameful. Yes it turns!!
I say let all cone forward about Holt. Many teachers and women have stated things he has done. Never too late!

I have been a supporter of Mr. Smith throughout this ordeal, he would have made a very good leader for this system. I understand that everyone has very strong opinions about this board and feel a bad decision was made, I do not disagree, remember the board members at election time…I do hope and pray that all involved will realize that whomever is placed in the position will deserve the same support and respect given to Mr. Smith by his supporters…Remember, whomever is appointed did nothing to Mr. Smith, they applied for a position they felt qualified to perform while bettering the school system…Help this person by keeping the pressure on the board to avoid previous mistakes from outside candidates and make them a part of the community, with our support they can be the champion for our children’s education…
The bottom line here is that once again Agenda and Personal decisions were put above our CHILDREN... I could care less about anything else other than the fact that our acting School Board ignored what was best for our Children and those teachers who are grossly underpaid. No one person is perfect but J.B. Smith has sat in the trenches with ultimate class facing down supreme backlash, threats, and borderline intimidation. As a member of this community and one that brought my family back here to raise our children, Mr. Smith was a driving force behind me feeling comfortable that my children were finally going to be able to enjoy a school system that I got to enjoy with teachers happy about going to work and kids knowing there was someone who gave a DAMN about them no matter where there went school, what their parents do for a living, or what kind of sport they play. As far as District 7 is concerned, as I am a voting member of that district Mr. Holt is a flat out disgrace and shows no care what so ever about the members of that district, furthermore, his only vested interest in running was knowing that Jerry Bryant was vulnerable and no one was else was running and his main agenda was to block any momentum and possibility of J.B Smith getting that position. Mr. Holt is a classless and seemingly unprofessional human being and one that embarrasses District 7. I furthermore am extremely disappointed that our school board knowingly set the agenda last night giving the Open Forum the very last spot for comments after all the votes had been cast. While I feel we need to rally around our school system now more than ever we MUST not let our school board forget that while unflattering as it may seem WE put them their and they WILL hear us REGARDLESS! Let's all be professional is our response and movements from here on out but let's not let these people get off the hook EVER for the deplorable decisions they have made and will continue to make!

The meeting was adjourned by Officer Gilbert in an emergency situation which is legal. Chairman Williams adjourned it too. The screaming idiots could not hear it. Too much emotion and mouth because they didnt get their way. Spoiled brats.
The only spoiled brats last night were sitting up on the stage. They wouldn't listen to the MAJORITY. Sure, you and your ten or twelve other minions didn't want J.B. but that does not go without saying that the MAJORITY did. Do you not find it odd that he has so much support. Why do you think that is so? Why were there more supporters at last nights meeting than any other board meeting in recent history? It's because everyone with a brain knows who should be director. The members get together behind closed doors, and in last nights case, behind stage curtains, and plot to get their way, instead of listening to the public. That is a spoiled brat. Doing whatever you can to get your way. Sure, the "Be Somebody" supports did plenty in hopes to get their way, but at least they were trying for something positive.

J.B. didn't ask to be interim. He was placed there without any warning, and gave it his all. He busted his butt for this ungrateful community for so long, just to be spat at by a few bigots and ignorant jackasses who lied their way into gaining a seat at the board table. Officer Gilbert, not being a member of the School Board had no authority to adjourn the School Board Meeting. As an officer of the law he had the authority to become involved with maintaining control of out of control people or if he observed unlawful behavior. Neither was present from the community, only some Board Members.
Mr. Williamson alone does not have the authority to adjourn a Board Meeting, a motion and a second followed by a vote is required, neither was taken at the meeting. Some of the Board led by Lovell simply got up and walked out.
I will give credit to Mr Williamson who spent a lot of time last night after the meeting talking with and listening to members of the community. In fact he was one of the last people to leave the area.
To me the problem clearly rest in Mr. Lovell, Holt and Ms. McMasters who seem to have personal agendas not related to the best interest of the school system or Giles County. Mr Lovell continues to demonstrate the same arrogant fascist attitude he showed as a commissioner and with his attitude mixed with that of Mr. Holt's volatile history I believe some other Board members have been intimidate to follow their lead. I also believe that is about to change with the addition of Mr. Womble who demonstrated last night that he will not easily be manipulated or intimidated his strength I believed was a great encouragement To Mrs. Turner who has felt somewhat isolated and powerless.
One last thought and that is, it seems the Board is impressed with the level of education of the candidates but when you look at the overall qualification those chosen have incredibly poor work records, experience and or leadership skills. Regardless of the education level, a doctorate means very little if the students don't have an environment that is conducive to learning, an incentive to learn and the encouragement to excel. Mr. Smith has provided the leadership that has encouraged both teachers and students to be more than just seat fillers who give and take tests. Under his leadership teacher morale has improved teaching has become more about education and students can feel the real concern for their well being. Mr. Smith apparently will not be the next superintendent and the county will be the worse for it. Small minds and personal vendettas seem to have once again ruled the day.
On another thread something was said about not knowing what it took to be Director of Schools. My question is Does any of the people that applied for the job know? I'm not just talking about the three that was voted on, I mean everyone. Have any of them ever been a Director of School?
I'm disappointed in Mr. Williamson. He voted for Mr. Smith and that's not the reason I'm disappointed in him. It's walking out. If you walk out of a meeting that proves you aren't the person for the job. If you have to walk out you should keep walking. I'm sure there was a lot of upsetting things going on, but prove you can handle it. If you can't handle it your not the person for the job.

Totally agree Chris. The public has to stay involved no matter who is in. I do hope the board, others in office and some in the school system have realized the importance of what has happened and the mistakes that were made that they do not even realize themselves. Glad it is them and not me.

What are you going to keep fighting for? The vote is done. This board is not the one who put the interim director in place, most of them were voted into office in August and we are already hearing off with their heads! Why? Because they did not vote to make Mr. Smith permanent Director. My goodness don't cut your noses off to despite your faces. I keep hearing good ole boys well isn't putting someone in a position just because they are from here considered a part of that system? How do you know Mr. Smith is the best person for the job? Yes, he is from Giles County and he has been in the system for years. He has done an awesome job at Bridgeforth but is that enough to be an effective Director? We voted these Board Members into office give them a chance to find the best person for the job. We do not know why they choose not to keep Mr. Smith but they have their reasons because believe it or not they do have Giles Counties children's best interest at heart. No it's not about race and it's not about something that happened over thirty years ago, it's about finding the best person. If you remember correctly this is the 2nd time Mr. Smith has applied for the job and not been chosen. Two different boards, two different applications, two times no. So I guess both boards were biased against him.

Turner changed her vote too. Just to take away from the others. Why do you think she and Womble abstained? They had their own agendas that night. Lovell stood up to state that he was a commissioners for x years and Holt was a commissioner for x year and they never redid a vote because someone was absent. TCA says that the date for a school board meeting is a set week and day of the week, Giles County's school board meetings are set for the second Thursday of the month. The day has never been reset because one person could not be there but it was this time. Lovell could not attend the regular scheduled meeting so the meeting date was reset to accommodate Lovell.

Stockdale has been a director since 2007. Read the resumes. He could have at least voted for Cobb since he was the one that asked her to apply.

Donna Cobb could not have been director of schools because she was not qualified. The requirement was for any candidate to have three years administrative experience. She has been a principal for one year and this year. Her application should not have been accepted at all. As for Mr. Wright, he has been in many places and asked to leave each of them. Mr. Bush wants an easy job away from students in the high school, and Mrs. Shelton has her issues as well.

Yes she did...she knew what they were going to do and so did David. They are not stupid! The board's actions were completely different past meetings. They knew exactly what they were doing!
So it's ok for one person to change a vote but not the others? Get over it, it's done. Citizens do not know everything that has gone on and never will! We voted for and put our trust in these Board members to do what's in the best interest of all Giles Counties citizens not just a few. Let them do their job. Just because they did not do what a select group wanted them to do doesn't mean they need to be thrown out of office. My goodness if that were the case Obama would have been go along time ago. They have 1 employee and that is the DOS and they have to be sure he will work with them to achieve what is best for this county.

From my understanding of the meeting, both the board and the crowd acted stupid. The board is here to represent the voters. The voters acted foolish by yelling and being obnoxious during a meeting. If you are truly a "somebody," why would you act in such an unruly manner? Do I believe JB Smith would have performed well as Director of Giles County Schools? Sure he would have! Am I upset that he was not chosen? Not in the least! What percentage of the people in Giles County voted in the last election? Not a very high percentage. Most people do not care who the Director of Giles County Schools is. They could not tell you that JB Smith is currently holding that position.
Another BIG question. Why do we have people on the school board that have no education experience or interest other than self-serving? No wonder Giles County is in second to last place in our district. When you have a bunch of morons running the prison, the prisoners will run free. Reminds me of most of the schools in the county. What does it take to be principal of a school now-a-days? Be a basketball coach? Coach football? We have principals in the school system who have only taught PE! No classroom experience. Maybe our new Director of Schools will have a little common sense and not place these idiots in a position of power. Maybe the students can learn more from their principal than a John Wooden quote.
On the most part, I do agree. I was at the meeting and yes some were out of line in any situation as that. But I will say, Ms. Ryland did ask to speak. She was denied because of the rest. She did raise her voice to Mr. Williamson because of the noise and asked not to do this. I know her. She cannot help how others act. She had no intentions of degrading anyone. She has always said and knowing her, everyone is a somebody. But you ate right about certain people on the board and in certain positions in the schools. I am sure a lot will change. Amen, 9:48! I remember one meeting where she told Dr. Webb she didn't know him and like three people said out loud BECAUSE YOU'RE NEVER HERE. Remember her reasoning for how Mr. Smith couldn't possibly have told someone to sign Mrs. McMasters' name was because Smith told her he didn't.
I love that Rhonda is somehow champion of the people when the only thing that she has ever spoken out on is this issue. Anyone know her thoughts on whether the school system should buy e-readers for the students or textbooks? Any repairs she would add to the list of capital projects? Anything other than thoughts on Mr. Smith?
Face it people. Mr. Smith broke state law. And remember when all the county money went "missing" in 2012? Ask Mr. Smith's fist where it went. The board had legitimate reasons for not hiring him.
Also, I like how the Smith/Holt history is such a big deal now. It sure wasn't when you people voted for Holt last fall. Smith was already in place with a board that was more than ready to hire him. Anyone who voted against an incumbent has no one to thank but themselves.

Yes, we have to thank the 380 people that voted for Holt out of 27,000 plus people of this county. That just how the laws are of voting and people did not all vote in that district. Would not have mattered. Bryant did not want Smith last time. And it is not about race, it is for sure politics. As far as for Holt, he brought out the past himself when he lost it after the Feb meeting at GCHS, out to 10 or more citizens and made clear it was a personal get back vote. And believe me, not going to agree on choices in that situation that they made but all have to live with it, but have known these people a long time, more to that story. The board never wanted Mr. Smith and that is a fact!! Go ahead and cause whoever and the situation that has happened, very far from race. A known fact that are a lot of more people are involved. As the plans played out, the ones were not too smart to realize that were watched the whole time. I am sadden for this situation. People make bad choices in life. We are all sinners, including Holt. He was not Mr. Sweet angel himself in that situation. I've seen a lot in my day, but again, he brought that out himself. As far as for the signing of Joy's name, ask Williamson. He was standing right there. It is not over sad to say only because the board extended it. Should have continued their actions planned at the January meeting. How this was all handled was a disgrace. What state law did Mr. Smith break. The School Board has broken state law a number of times by holding illegal meetings at a Board members cabin, at GCHS and in restaurants. They violated state law when they took votes and made decisions in a work session then tried to cover up the violations. They violated procedures when they changed the time of the Board Meeting just for Lovell to attend.They continue to violate the law or spirit of the law by employing a board attorney that has numerous conflicts of interest. Mr Cagle is a paid lobbyist for school superintendents, school employee professional organizations, school boards, private schools, and Pearson Inc the textbook and testing giant that is one of the pushers behind Common Core. Please also keep in mid that it was Mr. Cagle's legal opinion that there was no need to accept a former superintendent's resignation which then led to paying two superintendents at the same time. It was also Mr. Cagle that tried to make people believe that the decisions made in a work session was actually only a recommendation and not in violation of the state "open meetings" law.
You mention "missing money" in 2012. Please tell how Mr. Smith was involved in that? Much of the so called missing money wasn't missing only mis-spent, misappropriated and basically stolen by people who made personal purchases with the school credit cards and time sheets.
If you want to criticize perhaps you should at least make an attempt to do it with accurate information.
Those two worked together but one was not in the position to get revenge until now. Holt stated on the GCHS stage in February that he was getting his revenge. He should not have been allowed to vote at all. Get over the mishandled funds, those people are no longer in the system.

I am glad to see so many people finally outraged over our school system. I think your anger is somewhat misguided. Why haven't you been this mad at our overall test scores, about our ranking, about why the county commission continues to waste money on frivolous things yet cant seem to fund our school system properly? Why do they scream tax hike or wheel tax every time the school system says we need more money? Why cant we pay our deserving teachers better and get rid of the underperforming ones? Why do we get more excited over a ball game than we do an academic standing? We have a ton of problems in this county. Why not pray for those in the elected positions and ask God to give them the wisdom needed to make the best choices for our county? Why cant we talk calmly and constructively instead of being so negative and always attempting to tear down those with opposing viewpoints? I would like to apologize for asking so many questions with no answers except one...GOD, but if we put His will first in our decision making then all these problems will go away. I encourage open and honest communication and even good debate, but in order for communication to be effective we have to be willing to listen to AND consider a different point of view. I do feel that this CAN happen if people will just be nice to each other. Outrage may be justified, but name calling and acting like kindergartners on the playground accomplishes nothing. I personally feel that people on both sides of this issue have acted wrongly. Again I wish I could tell everyone the right answers about how to fix things, but I have no clue. Totally agree! But the ones out in the county that have sent letters to many, not signing their names, at least the ones that are voicing whether right or wrong, you know who they are. The power hungry faction that wanted Smith gone held secret meetings and manipulated a result. We will always have problems if these folks who think that they know better than us are allowed to continue.
Open honest dialogue with a majority rule is the way it should be.
Some of these people get off on their ability to buy and influence people. They make me sick!
When people realize that God has made it rather clear, what is right and wrong and then gives us the choice of what we will do, perhaps they will stop sitting back and waiting on God to do what He has made us responsible for.
It is not God's will that we sit around and fail to inform ourselves before we vote, or fail to vote at all. We have the problems we have in this county because too many failed to meet their responsibilities to the people of the county. When less than half the people vote and less than half of those have no clue about what or who they are voting for it's not God's doing but our laziness. When we fail to be involved in what's going on in the county it's not God's fault but ours. Yes, I know there are many reasons and excuses why we can't attend meetings and take part but don't we always find a way to do the things we really want to do. There are ways of being involved that don't require attendance at every meeting. Blaming God for our laziness, ignorance and withdrawal is no different than blaming our parents because we decide to use drugs.
It is unreasonable to expect God to clean up our messes when we are satisfied to continue making those same messes. We must take responsibility for our behavior and choices.

I am sick and tired of people stating race as an excuse for someone not getting what they want. Being african American does not give you the rights to anything or it shouldnt. I can reasonably confidently say that if the director of schools were an elected position, and if JB Smith ran, then he would win by a landslide.
He lost. He lost partially because of race; partially because of previous marital relationships; and partially because of sports.
She is the least of their worries! She is a parent that cares for all teachers and staff. Need more like her.at last she cares and no matter what side, she will treat you right unless you lie straight to her face. She stood up for the schools, teachers and kids. Also for what is right. I say this because I am a retired teacher and only wish we had parents like her in my day.
Some have really surprised me whether JB is right for the job or not. If they would have done it correctly and ethical and given him a chance.what would it have hurt? Money is behind it no doubt. Worked in the system. It is just wrong. The community has the right to speak and yes teachers too. I know a parent of one member, she would be severely disappointed if she were here today. JB will be just fine. As far as for voting, someone mentioned, I have a feeling there will be record voting in Giles County in all future seats.

I don't have to ask I was there when the Board ripped Mr. Jackson and later reprimanded him for his "loose" handling and games with tax money.
The director of schools is supervised by only the board. Yes, Dr. Webb had the differentiated pay approved by the board, Mr. Smith also had the changes he made approved by the board, he just didn't understand it was intended for next year and he did above and beyond what the board gave him permission to pay. As far as what was done wrong, just wait for the next audit to come out like the rest of us have to..
I thought Audits didn't prove if money was spent wrong, just if put in the right place on paper.
So Webb and Smith asked the board if they could do that, got the ok, but it was suppose to be next year and smith did it this year.
If Smith didn't understand it had to be next year, that's no reason to fire him. I guess it was to late to take it back. Got to be more than that for the board to be so against him.
Why does all elected people forget the people who elected them and have the idea they can do what ever they want. Seems to be to hell with that little moron that elected me. Cindy is involved. She buddies up to whoever can help her get what she wants. When your not any longer use to her she will turn on them. She will turn on them she's using now to. All she wants is the power. Look at all the moves almost made supposed by Webb, every of them she had a vendetta against them. She has two secretaries who do her job so she can run around all day meeting with people and scheming and not in the schools. How does she get paid for this? She wanted JB out because he wouldn't let her run the show. Ask the people in schools about her. She talks about them like dogs but smiles at there face. Even talks ugly about both her secretaries behind their back. She been meeting scheming since JB become interim, now doing it with board members and them that only care about sports.
How did 2 of the people who applied get the interview questions already? They must have got them from somebody on the board.
If our school board is going to hire someone based on an interview, then they have confirmed again how shallow they are!
They already know who they want. They think the community is stupid. We were just stupid to vote these people in. Mcmasters did not have anyone to run against. She a yes puppet for her Aunt and some others. I looked at the meeting on you tube. I hope they know what asses they made of themselves after walking off the stage. The cop adjourned the meeting. That man was right. Holt should not have had a say. He has ran his mouth all over but the sad thing is, the board and people know it. Those people just think they run the town. just a thought, why does bill holt have a seat ? did he not brandish a fire arm at school some years back in an attemp to shoot jb smith?
i had the pleasure of sitting right in front of mr. holt a couple years back. had a problem with how he had disciplined my child, after a few questions of my own he asked me about my home situation. i told him i was raising two children by myself. he told me that he understood, for he had done the same. his words were and i quote"my wife ran off with a n#gg#r", afterwoards i was appalled. all i could think of was if he was willing to tell me that after just meeting him , how does he treat the children at school?
I noticed on the tape you could easily tell they didn't want Mr. Smith right in front of him, but when something was said something about one of them they got so upset they got up.
Don't they have a handbook or class on how to conduct a meeting? I noticed Mr. Cagle had to tell the chairman to let him speak before he started talking.
You know there is not a single person on this earth that has never done something they shouldn't have. So why is it only the board members dirty laundry is aired?
If know one gets anything out of all that is going on they will learn two things. How to take the pressure and stand tall with dignity and the second is how to be a horses ass like some of the school board members have proven themselves to be. JB Smith can't be beaten down like some "digga hanging from a tree". He is a black man to be admired and any black or white person should be proud to shake his hand and call him friend. Holt is a cruel man. Ask his first and second wife. But as the second wife's family of how he treated his second wife. I am sure Ms Smith can tell you a few. My brother was friends with Holt's son. I wasn't at the meeting, but watched it on U-Tube and was very disappointed in the board. Not because of them not electing JB Smith. They need a class on anger management and how to conduct a meeting.

Mr. Holt did not move from his seat after the meeting for quite some time. I think there was more from the bald man than what he had to say. He also has some good stuff on Holt and presented Holt with it He didn't get up because he knew the man was going to lower the hammer on him. So he wasn't being a gentleman but scared to move over what he had received.
Holt is far from a gentleman. Just ask any teacher especially ones he worked with several years ago. Many are glad that man confronted Holt. From what I have heard he has put his foot in his mouth more than one time in the last months. Might be watching other things on youtube again soon.
As Chris said above, the community has to stay involved and keep pressure on the board to make sure the right person is chosen for Director for all the right reasons. I am sure all will support the new director but the board has to realize that they have to work with the community which is not happening. We did vote these people in but they ran for the position. Everyone should be so very ashamed of their derogatory comments toward Mr. Smith and his family. Mr. Smith did not ask to be interim director. Nor has he asked for his name and his family to be drug through the mud. It's bad enough how this board has chosen to handle the situation of not choosing a man who has busted his butt for not only the past year, but the last 30 as well. It's time to stop the mud slinging and the slanderous letters that the authors don't even have the nerve to sign their name to. This has gotten so ugly and I am ashamed to be a part of a community who cannot put our children and education system first. It makes me want to pack up and leave and move my family elsewhere. By "best" I mean will do what it takes for my children to succeed academically. Education IS and should be the MOST IMPORTANT factor in a SCHOOL system--NOT ATHLETICS. If my children end up being good athletes, well great for them, that's simply a bonus!
Everyone should be so very ashamed of their derogatory comments toward EVERYONE. There are others being talked about that did nothing but care about the children of Giles County. The CHILDREN should be the CENTER of all decisions. They deserve the best education that can be provided. They are our future. I have no idea who will do the best job, but as long as the children are the top priority then I am okay with whatever decision that is made.
Yes, well, our children are not being put at the center of all decisions. Personal agendas of a few are what is and has been the center of our education system in Giles County. For us to move forward and progress things MUST change.
Board is just thinking of themselves. This all was a plan from the beginning. These people will not run again especially Williamson as he has voiced to me. Holt, Brewer, Lovell and Mcmasters wanted to make sure that smith was not in. Lovell was appointed and Auntie made sure Joy was in there. I have seen it and heard it all. Some of your little trust puppies are not so trust worthy. Due time all comes out. Shamed to even know these people. People say they are scared, but the ones that need to be scared are the ones involved behind the scenes and this board, well they have taken care of that themselves. Made their own bed so lay in it. The most surprising person in all of this is Richie Brewer. I have lost all respect for him. Does he really think that people do not know what he has been up to? Never knew how much evil was in him until this situation. It saddens me.
To April 7, Read the board minutes for the November meeting. Brewer, Holt and McMasters supported JB in giving the money. It is even in the minutes that the money be put in their Dec. 17 envelope. The board has tried to knit pick JB to the point of walking out. But just like a lady, a gentleman knows when it's time to leave and JB isn't going to walk out He, unlike board, is two much of a gentleman.

JB will not walk out. He is there until the end for the Giles County Schools.
This is a big mistake and a disgrace for what this board and others behind the scenes have done to J.B. Smith and a lifetime of dedication to Giles County School System.
The only thing that was on their agenda was to destroy a person's life. But in all, they have only destroyed their own! Everything all falls into place sooner or later.
