Is It History Or Racism?

The thing that is amazing to me about this "Purge of History" is why it only started after Obama left office and why it's so selective. President Obama did as much if not more to exploit and divide the races than any president in recent history.

It's said that the statues being destroyed and under attack represent people who were "racist". If they were indeed racist then why hasn't there been this effort to remove them before now? Why did they wait until after President Trump was elected to begin this purge of "racist" from our history? If owning slaves is the criteria for being labeled a "racist", what about those who were "black" and owned slaves. Were they racist? What were those people who owned "white slaves"? What about those today, such as many wealthy Muslims, who own and traffic in slaves?

I submit that while Nathan Bedford Forrest owned slaves he was a far less "racist" than either President Wilson and FDR; That Robert E. Lee was far less a "racist" than Sen, Robert Byrd or dozens of other senators including Albert Gore.

This outrageous behavior of destroying property and suppressing the rights of citizens is NOT so much about anger at Confederate leaders or even slave owners but anger over the fact that Donald Trump was elected president. The effort is clearly less about bringing down a statue than about bringing down a government. It's less about slavery than about control. Less about honest protest than about pure anarchy.

Allen asks many questions which really can be answered succinctly. Donald Trump couldn't be the person President Obama was in a 100 lifetimes. Trump is a piece of white trash with money and everyone knows it. When historians judge the Trump presidency I'm sure it won't be flattering.

I don't know about insane but what I see in Allen's post is the statement of a person who's time has past. This way of thinking is dying and the generation and groups that think this way are getting smaller with each passing month and they just can't take it.

It's like the scene in the movie "Gone With The Wind" when all the old plantation owners are drinking their brandy talking about what hell they are going to raise with the North and then Red Butler gives them a REALITY check with facts and they get angry. That is what we are witnessing here in the USA.

The old way is changing and quickly and a lot of people are VERY angry. The FACTS are it's never, ever going back so toughen up Allen and accept it.

My goodness, has the very idea of a discussion with facts become so objectionable?

What pray tell did I post that revealed a dying way of thinking? Was it the use of facts instead of feelings? Are there any doubts that many Muslims own slaves today; that Presidents Wilson and Franklin Roosevelt were openly racist; that Sen. Robert Byrd was a Grand Dragon and recruiter for the KKK; that Sen. Al Gore Sr. voted with most every other Democrat against the Civil Rights Act; that Jim Crow was the product of Democrat leadership just as the Antifa group is now? Maybe you think that the issue today is only about statues of old slave owners, you would be as wrong as thinking the civil war was only about slave ownership. There will be no discussion of such matters because there is little interest in facts when bully tactics and bloodshed can be used to get the suppressors what they want. Isn't it rather odd that the Antifa bunch of Soros paid protestors and the media/democrats that support them are so eager to do away with the First Amendment for anyone who opposes them.

Allen, I think what 7:15 is saying is that you and people like you need to stop living in the past. It's gone, never to return.

My question has always been "who the hell puts up statues of losers?" These were the losers of the civil war. They were traitors to the Union, to the USA. They were seditionists. What kind of people would put up statues to these assholes? Oh, I know, assholes would.

Blogger Allen Barrett said...

7:37 you are, of course, aware that most all those statues that were put up since the sixties were done so by Democrats and that most of the statues are of Democrats?

Would you consider JFK a loser since he expanded the Viet Nam War but didn't win it? Was Dr. King Jr. a loser? You do know that he was a registered Republican and labeled a subversive by a Democrat controlled government. Was Dr. King a loser because he consistently used the term “negro”? Would Dr. King be a loser had the “civil rights legislation” not passed? Are people really losers simply because of the side they took on certain issues and do we even understand what those issues were. If the Civil War was all about slavery why did so many people who never owned a slave fight in it.

Is it reasonable to judge people who lived hundreds of years ago in different eras by the standards we hold today? Should George Washington and other founders be judged on the basis of what they knew or by what we have learned since they lived? Ben Franklin was one of the most advanced thinkers of his time but he would be totally lost if handed a new Iphone.

It's not "reason" when it is determined by only one person or group. To the Antifa group, it's very reasonable to use violence to accomplish their goals. To the KKK it's very reasonable to intimidate in order to accomplish their goals. To the "Black Lives Matter" it's reasonable to block highways and call for the killing of police officers to accomplish their goals. To the radical Muslim terrorism it's a reasonable means to their goals. Every group has their justifications, their reasons, even those that can not articulate their goals have found resonable justification for their positions.
As for facts, they seem to be too confining, they take too much effort, they don't support our positions, facts are too difficult to deal with, so facts become the least desirable most disposable part of the issue. Taking the easy way seems to have become a national obsession. Today we seem to prefer "feelings" over "facts". Today "reason" is often revealed as appeasement and facts are created by the repetitiveness of a corrupt media and internet controlled propaganda. We have an obligation to preserve and understand our histories, all of it, from the magnificent accomplishments to the dirty little secrets of our prejudices. Censoring history through omissions, sanitization, denials and plain lies assures that we will repeat it.

It's interesting that you mention "Catcher in The Rye" and characterize me as Holden. I doubt that you actually read the book and it's obvious that if you did you certainly did not understand the complexities of the characters and the situations they experienced. Holden Caulfield is a 16 YO, I'm certainly a bit older than he is and a few pounds heavier. I was about Holden's age when I first read the book which is about coming of age for a sixteen-year-old struggling with his own idenity and the expectations others have for him. So, Like Holden when I was sixteen I like most other teenagers struggled to find my place and that is about the extent of our similarities. While Holden was raised in an upper middle-class family I was raised in the housing projects of Murfreesboro with three sisters, a brother, Mother and Grandmother. While I struggled with many things in my life physical and emotions were never a part of them. You see, I learned at a very early age that there was one thing and one thing only that was totally mine, integrity, and no one but myself could ever affect it. My whole life has been spent developing, protecting and holding fast to that integrity. So unlike Holden I have had the benefit of knowing not only where I came from and appreciating it, but having a direction instilled by my Mother and Grandmother that honesty is the best policy and will carry you both into troubles and honors. Twenty years in poverty, Twenty years of military service and twenty years in the ministry separate me from Holden Caulfield and his confused struggles and resistance to realities. Oh, by the way, you last sentence shows a lot about you, your lack of vocabulary, intelligence, maturity, and inability to articulate ideas and thoughts. Have a nice day though I can't imagine that being possible knowing you are stuch with yourself.

I've always thought it was rather sad, and in many ways quite pitiful, when people feel the need to give you the resume. Regardless, you need to take an American literature class so that you can have a better understanding into Salinger's post modern use of Holden's application of the term "phony" in "the catcher in the Rye."

Oh, and by the way, I would leave off any reference in your resume to being a minister or connecting yourself to religion or belief in a god which we all know is nonsense. It really negates anything else that you've done with your life.

To 10 Sept at 7:52 AM. Perhaps my understanding of the character of Holden is not as clear as yours, I based my thoughts on the reading of "Catcher in the Rye", an interview with Salinger about his book and an academic commentary on the book. Granted that was years ago and I may have forgotten some parts but the most important thing is the fact that Holden sees almost everyone else as "phonies" when in fact he is the real phony under the delusion that he is the only one who is real. That is something that often happens to people who arrogantly see themselves as the smartest person in the room and no possibility that anyone who disagrees with them could possibly be right or even have a point because not only are others always wrong but their error is a result of some major character flaw such as substantiated claims of some type of bigotry. You might want to give special thought to that as it seems very applicable in your case. The reason I say that applies to you is based on your closing statement that, "belief in a god which we all know is nonsense". You see, assigning yourself spokesman for everyone on the planet and claiming to know their hearts and minds is somewhat arrogant don't you think? Just for the record there is far less evidence that man made himself and evolved from lower forms of life than there is that we were created by a greater intelligence, but of course those who refuse to look at the evidence consider themselves far superior to any factual evidence. I believe the Bible speaks to that matter when it states, "For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools" Romans 1:21-22

Allen, when you were doing the military service that you talk about above did you get hit in the head with shrapnel?

I asked because, clearly, you are brain damaged.

Appealing to an imaginary friend who lives in the sky is not the best way to go through life.

Isn't it funny how people who mock science always turn to it when they get sick, always turn to it when they want something to work right?

You truly are a phony.

And quoting from a book that support slavery, supports the torture of women, believes in selling children and mass murder, is not exactly the most reliable source for proper behavior.

You'd be better off quoting from the Harry Potter series.

Sunday, September 10, 2017 1:37:00 PM

To the 10 Sept at 1:37 PM poster.
Well, there you go again making those off the wall remarks and trying to justify them by pretending to speak for all the world.

Begining with your simple minded statement, "Appealing to an imaginary friend who lives in the sky is not the best way to go through life" shows not only a lack of understanding of who God is but again pretending that you know what's best for mankind. What foolish arrogance and misplaced pride.

Then you get even worse with your display of sophomoric "logic". You say, "Isn't it funny how people who mock science always turn to it when they get sick, always turn to it when they want something to work right?" Not only do you again claim the knowledge of understanding every person on the planet, you even claim to know what they do when ill. There are far fewer people on the planet that visit an actual physician when sick than do. Maybe you should expand your realm of understanding to places other than Giles County. People who follow Christ have no problem with real science, the problem is with human speculation without any feasible evidence. From my own experiences, I can assure you that many supposed atheist in parts of Florida are right now praying for God's intervention for their lives and the lives of loved ones. It takes a lot of gall to call someone a phony after writing the things you have written on this post.

The Bible does offer such things as slavery, torture of women, selling of children or mass murder. God gave a perfect plan for our lives but man in his arrogance decided he knew a better way thus the problems you describe are not a result of God's Word but of man's sin. It seems obvious, and I hope I'm wrong, that you may have spent more time with a book of fantasy and magical solutions than with real life and the complexities of responsibility and privilege. Sorry for your disillusioned state of morbid humanism, I would be glad to tell you about Jesus when you are ready.
