Why Are Some Still Given Special Privileges?
If seems Commissioner Campbell, awaiting trial on more than one felony, continues to receive or take special privileges at different offices in the Courthouse and Annex.
It was reported that Commissioner Campbell made a little trip to the Election Office during early voting, not to vote but for other business that was so important to him that he just walked behind the counter and into the Supervisor's Office all in violation of rules prohibiting anyone other than the office staff and the poll workers from being in contact with voting information.
Did Commissioner Campbell come in direct contact with voter information, I'm sure the public will never know for certain. Certainly he should not be allowed unfettered access to any County Office, especially the Election Office during voting periods.
Appearance alone are enough to create questions and outrage in these times of questionable voting irregularities.

This is Tommy Campbell's credo.
Tommy Campbell is a very impotent(not a misspelling)person. At least in his twisted mind. He has always done what he wants despite laws, rules, standards of practice, etc. He is a bully,and has always be so since high school.
The people who are elected for Public Office in the Courthouse and Annex SHOULD know that people are very upset and mad about the actions of Campbell and therefore should NOT allow that lowlife to come behind any counter. He is NOT priviledged to do so, even as being a County Commissioner. You Officials should not allow this, especially the Election Officials during this important election. This is a prime example while the people of Giles County do not trust a lot of our Local Government to do what is right. Stay out from behind the counters Campbell. If you need something, tell the Clerks and they can bring you the info you need for you so-call surveying job. And by the way, I want to praise a lady by the name of Christy who had the guts to tell Campbell that he made her feel uncomfortable coming into the office she works at. I do not know her personally but it sounds to me like she has class!
As a person who is not from Giles county, is retired and not dependent on any person or job I can tell you I don't give a shit who anybody is in this county. If Mr. Campbell or any of the other asshole leaders tried to bully or intimidate me they'd be in for the Shock of their lives.
Stop whining and vote these people out.

Does anyone know what type of chemicals are burning at the modular one site in the industrial park.The paper says the smoke is poisonous.after numerous inquires no one can tell me what is burning or why they won't put it out.I live nearby and it smells terrible and burns your eyes and skin if you get in the smoke.Barry Whitt the director of disaster preparedness will not disclose what is burning or why they can't put it out.no public notice on what is going on or what to do to protect yourself if the smoke is toxic.newspaper is useless and unconcerned.vanzant and Barry doss will not even answer phone or call back.guess we will know the effects when people start getting sick or dyeing.look like a class action lawsuit in the masking.

The Office of Emergency Management ought to have on file the MSDS Material Safety Data Sheets for any materials and chemicals that were stored at that warehouse. Those sheets will explain (in detail) the composition of the material, how to mitigate any health hazard and safety details in case of fire. This is public record and should be made available to anyone upon request. If the MSDS data is not on file then Mr. Whitt is not doing his job.
Just another giles county "leader" being incompetent. Also the arrogance of believing he doesn't have to answer to anyone.

I went to the disaster preparedness office yesterday to review the MSDS sheets to see what was burning at the warehouse fire in the industrial park.The building was locked.the windows were all blacked out.you could not see in at all.no hours or phone # was posted anywhere.If the MSDS sheets are public records how are you supposed to see them?I would try contacting Mr Whitt but since he told me he had everything under control and hung up when I ask him why they were not putting the fire out.I guess he felt it was better to let the citizens of Giles county breathe the TOXIC smoke for three days than kill more fish in pigeon roost creek.The city takes their water from Richland creek a few miles down stream.no warnings have been issued so it must only kill wildlife and not affect humans.all is good nothing to worry about.I guess the burning eyes and nose and cough will go away.If we had a decent newspaper they would be on top of this and let the people know what is going on.

You may find both of them at a "Command Center" along Mines Road. But, do not be surprised if admittance is denied for that sight will be deemed a "secure location". Granted it is down wind from the fire scene.
Did you know that Whitt is also the County Fire Marshall????? I am very sure that he will be able to determine the cause of this fire, what safety measures were taken prior to the fire, whether the response was adequate and what lessons are to be learned.
What you don't understand is that Witt is in the position because he is a suck up to Vanzant. I took a major event and a ton of money before Vanzant's buddies Campbell and Watson were exposed as incompetent waste management czars. Will this be what does in Witt. The problem is Vanzant who puts people in highly qualified positions without the qualifications then protects them at all cost to the county. Look at what she has done with the garbage collection, remember what a mess her choice made of the Finance office, and her buddy T Jackson at the school dept. Vanzant has done a lot to enrich herself and break this county.

The school director is looking to get commissioners to put a wheel tax in place to help fund his new school. they are planning to meet to discuss property and cost.
He is micro managing the school system to the point that he is hiring teachers to be coaches at the high school from other schools in the city. It is all about the football program rather than the students.
Ask any of the students what's happening at GCHS. The principal is always out of dress code, but allows her chosen friend students to wear what they want. She dresses like she is after the guys there rather than leading a quality school which is failing.
Folks, the school system is in a mess. Look at all the teachers who have left this year, let alone last year.
Listen to the students talk about GCHS and all the fights that continue. And, "there are no discipline problems at GCHS" according to the administration. Coaches out of class while the students fight in class.
The school system will be forever fighting to get ahead when Mr. Wrong gets finished with it.
This is nothing new as all readers and anyone else who follows what's going on in the school system. Change the People who hire the Director and you'll get a better Director. This isn't rocket science.

Well, it seems that the waters of justice continue to flow along the stream of the powerful, the connected and the unashamed violators of honor and decency.
Today was scheduled to be a Court date for Commissioner Tommy Campbell, on two charges of sexual exploitation of a minor, coercion of a witness, aggravated statutory rape, aggravated assault, misdemeanor theft, and carrying a firearm in a government building, but unlike the "regular" people Commissioner was granted yet another delay until 27 March 2017.
So while others, charged with crimes against the state, against other people or even against nature, were required to appear in court this morning and sit for almost an hour past time to start, Commissioner Campbell was out and about enjoying his continued freedom.
Having posted a $75,000.00 bond back in the fall of last year Commissioner Campbell has been free to roam about the Courthouse at will and take part in his other favored activities. Even today he was seen in the Courthouse standing in the shadows outside of the courtroom but not in the room.
In the opinion of this writer, the arrogant behavior of Commissioner Campbell continuing to be paid by the county, make decisions that impact other law abiding citizens and subvert the legal system is nothing less than a mockery of the whole justice system. Apparently being guilty or innocent has far less to do with legal issues than how well you are connected to the powerful elites.

I know this is changing the subject and I want to know if Tommy Campbell was in court as well but recently the paper had an article stating that Dan speer has been un-able to perform his job function as economic development director, not that he ever did, and has not reported to the job since November. It was stated he remains in that position. Why? Are the taxpayers still paying him? Why are they not advertising to find a replacement, an actual qualified replacement. If he is disabled and not performing his full time duties then the taxpayers should not pay him.
