Pulaski Police Activity!

This subject was submitted by a reader, it has been posted without any changes.

Why is Pulaski police dept. ticketing everything that moves? Seems that it is becoming excessive and stopping people for no legit reasons. Again, another request for blog topic.

What excessive police activity? How do we know that the tickets are not legitimate?

I would like to hear from anyone who got a ticket for not doing anything at all. I happen to think its a good thing. Everytime I go to town I am almost hit by someone speeding, running a stopsign or just not paying attention. maby of more people are scared of getting a ticket they may drive a little safer.
I dont understand how you could find fault in someone for doing their job. No one would get at the guy whos cuts the grass for doing a good job cutting the grass.

I know nothing about the ticketing but I am concerned that we seem to be losing some good people who have been in the dept for a long time. Is it a pay problem, hours, or what? Anybody know?

Our local police force is acting like a bunch of Barney Fife's. Dan Spear is our chief Barney. I hear that he continues to run of decent industries. What has he really accomplished since he has been mayor? What is his legacy?

One big problem is the corner of hwy 31A and 31 where cops park in the body shop parking and get people comeing down the hill trying to do less than 30. It's a speed trap if they ever was one. Another thing is when the police buzz by yuou when you do the limit on Mill Street.

Laughable - ya always have to get Speer as the reason for any negative idea that shows up here. Don't know who you are , but you're easy to spot! And the sad part is that you actually think people believe that you know! Truely laughable and one of the reasons I stop in here occasionally.

Dont like the police? Next time you need help call a crackhead. That person you curse and call names for the speeding ticket you just got " because you were speeding" is the same person who will come to help you when you call. To the person who made the Barney Fife. I would like to see you pin on a badge and bare the weight of that job.

The Spear thing is unexplainable - Maybe it's cause He looks like snydly whiplash? -- eyeballs rolling around like a one armed bandit, sneaking here & there, looking for someone to moon, Now, if there's a piece of dung nearby -just got to fling it his way!

For anyone who really wants to know why Pulaski PD is making so many stops...it is called the Govenors Highway Safety Program and it will be going on for the next few months. The best suggestion is obey the law and be a safe driver and you won't have to worry about getting stopped and receiving a LEGITIMATE ticket. And Mayor Speer is not to blame for these fine officers doing their job. Most of you complaining have absolutely no clue what being an officer in this city consists of. And even if you did, you wouldn't be able to do the kind of job the Pulaski PD and the Giles County Sheriffs Dept. do.

how did this topic get to be about Dan spear. He actually has very little to do with the police dept as far as what they do. cant anyone ever stay on the topic. This is a good topic to discuss but to many people cant stay on the subject. there should be a topic of just WHY YOU THING DAN SPEAR IS BAD. maby then the rest of us can post about the topic at hand

to Monday, March 30, 2009 11:18:00 PM. I agree with you %110. you seem to be one of the few who know what they are talking about. what dose the Govenors Highway Safety Program consist of and what is it for?

The Govenors Highway Safety is a grant that gives the Police Dept extra money to enforce the traffic laws and put special attention towards more traffic violators. This does not take away from the citizens who may call for officer assistance in different areas. There is an extra officer or two on shift for enforcing these traffic laws while the regular shift works other calls.

Is it wrong to ask what Dan Speer has accomplished and what is his legacy. I don't think he as been very productive. Maybe we should have a topic on this?

MORE TICKETS!!! On my road there are drivers day and night who use it as their personal raceway. If you are doing the speed limit they ride your bumper. They pass on a dangerous hill at high speeds, gun it and have mufflers that could wake the dead. The over sized speakers bump by all hours of the day and night. They toss out garbage and beer bottles. If I could write a ticket I would. Slow down and obey the law and try a little consideration!

You'd have to give all the Pulaski cops tickets first. I've never seen one out who wasn't talking on the phone.

What's good for the goose should be good for the gander! I have witnessed several times a patrol car-not with lights or sirens on speeding down the highway- only to arrive in town and see that same patrol car sitting at a resturant or store!
Why can they speed to get where they want to go(non emergency or not on a call) but when I do I get a ticket? Are they not under the same laws we are? Do they not have to obey speed limits unless they are on a call? Why do they feel they can break the law and then try and inforce it on others who are doing the same thing they just did?
I have the utmost respect for law enforcement officers but feel they should be obeying the same laws they are enforcing!

Did anybody else see the young officer with a young girl stopped yesterday around 6:15 p.m.???? Stop at corner of 3rd and W. Madison? The young lady had on short shorts and the officer was directing her to bend over and touch her toes. Had her do it few times and then let her go???? Wonder what the purpose of that was. Exercising citizens or getting personal kicks??? I noticed several cars had stopped to watch.

Yes. Was on my way from little league ballpark and saw it. Didn't look at patrol car. Was too flabbergast at what officer was having young lady do. Appalling.

Just so those of you know and to the ones who seem to be speculating about something done wrong, the officer that had this young lady "bent over" as you want to call it, was actually giving the young lady the opportunity to take off her high heel shoes before he gave her a Field Sobriety Test. We have a very good Police Dept. with some very fine officers. So before speculating maybe you should know the whole story.

How about this? This afternoon i was at home trying to clean up my car that has been tore up for several months. i just got it fixed and was going to start driving it again. my father and law was outside messing around in the yard, when all of a sudden he had a stroke. i had the keys to the car in my pocket, so that is what i threw him in to rush him to the ER. He was med-flighted to St. Thomas. i was in a hurry to get there so i just took my car. I got back in to town at about 11:30 tonight and there was an officer setting at Gerald's Auto Body. I turned left and made it past the square when i saw a car gaining on me at a very high rate of speed. Of course it was a cop with no lights on. He said he was on his way to another call and that is why he was speeding, but he still had time to pull me over for an out of date tag. when i explained to him the bad evening that i had, and told him the only reson that i was driving the car was to get my father in law to the hospital, i still got a ticket. i told him the car had been messed up and that was why the tags where out of date, and that i would go get them. he didn't care. now keep in mind i am 27 and have nothing on my record. in my mind it would have made sense to give me a warning. i respect every cop on the force, and would never give them a problem, but one just lost all respect that i had for him. i wouldn't pee on him if he were on fire.
