Giles Free Speech Zone

The purpose of the "Giles Free Speech Zone" is to identify problems of concern to the people of Giles County, to discuss them in a gentlemanly and civil manner, while referring to the facts and giving evidence to back up whatever claims are made, making logical arguments that avoid any use of fallacy, and, hopefully, to come together in agreement, and find a positive solution to the problem at hand. Once More With Feeling, please!!!!!!!

Once again the Property Committee will take the proposal to the full commission to sale the Hunter Smith Building at auction.
This was proposed for the last Commissioner Meeting but was sabotaged when the County Executive told Commissioner Terry Harwell that the city was interested in buying the building. This turned out to be news to everyone on the City Council. Now the County Executive reports that there are two groups of people interested in buying the Hunter Smith Building. Lincoln said "you can fool some of the people all the time and all the people some of the time" but you apparently can't keep fooling the Commissioners all the time with the same ole tricks. Today they voted to send the recommendation to the full commission, in March, to sale the Hunter Smith at auction and anyone wanting to purchase it before then should put up their money before the Commission meets or be left to bid at the auction. Wise move. Allen Barrett

Now to all those who think zoning laws are a bad thing, then think twice. Does Giles County need another girlie joint? Especially on the square. I'm embarassed everytime I give directions to folks and they get off on exit 22 and see the fine adult establishments.

You are so right about that. These folks who are against it would be first in line to protest if one of those businesses moved in next to them. I too have been embarrassed when giving driving directions to Pulaski.

If you are so embarrassed about giving directions to Pulaski why don't you sent them to the By-Pass they can even pass by a couple of churches on the way in.

To 11:07. I've done that before but it doesn't make a lot of sense when they're coming from Nashville. It's a shame one even has to resort to doing this.

It's still only 13 or 14 miles to Pulaski regardless of which exit you use. I find it embarrassing to tell someone of the choices they have when wanting to go out and eat in Pulaski.

I'm not the one who wrote before about the girlie places, but where I live it's better to get off exit 22 to my house.

I would like to see someone buy the Hunter Smith building and put in a show girl place and let others see how disgusting it is to
have to go by.

I had never thought zoning could prevent that. BUT could zoning get rid of the ones we have.

No, but a sheriff's deputy stationed at the end of the road would certainly stop a lot of drunk driving and eventually cut business to the point it would close.

We need to keep Hunter Smith! It is the ideal location to house the spear & TJ. It's at the center of town, close to everything. Real close to the courtroom in case the law needs to make them explain something. Also the most direct routing to Alabama in case they need to scoot out of town & out of state real quick.

We could even hire Dumpo as an assistant & statistian - keep up with the roach & rodent population in case they need some praise. Dumpo could even make sure they know where WAB is - what WAB is doing, & why WAB doesn't like crooks

To 2:01 - We're not talking East to West driving distance from I-65. We're talking North to South from Nashville. Do the math. It is 8 miles further by directing them to exit 14 instead of exit 22.

I go back to my original point which is: It is embarassing to have out of town people, who have never been to Pulaski, drive by the girlie joints.

And to the 3:20 poster....AMEN!

1112 How has Nashville handled porn shops, perverts & so forth with all their zones & enforcement drones???

Your zone is in the ozone - inert

riddler,
There you go again calling me names. As I've asked you before, don't you have anything else to do but sit at your computer all day trying to think up witty things to say? Or is it your job to defend your hero from any and all challengers, regardless of what he says? Don't you have a brain?
Look, I could CARE LESS what the great one is doing. But I am fairly certain that he is busy trying to dig up some dirt on somebody.

To 9:02 - I'll refrain from hurling insults back...

Nashville keeps their porn shops on a very tight leash and also in a very confined area. Just like here though, it is a shame they have them at all.

Surely you won't try to justify they are good for Giles County. Unless they are outlawed completly, zoning is the only way to keep them in check.

Zoning is not always the dirty word you make it out to be. Otherwise, your next door neighbor might just start his own girlie club - complete with a big neon sign to keep you awake at night.

Without a zoning ordinance, girlie clubs could be isolated to a 2 acre site adjacent to Mr. Reedy or you. That way you could keep an eye on them & know what's happening. Might even be able to charge for parking??

In fact you could keep a list of all your friends who come & go.

Personally, if one moved in next door, I would use my nonzoned right of buying a few hundred pigs to slop it up next to them. One way or the other, their life would shift gears too. With surnuffity they would shortly hate me more than you hate me, - thats in a giddy up go minute.

I'm equally sure if it happened to some of your control freaks, they would assess the problem, figure out a way to screw someone & expand the farm with a couple hundred sheep to expand the economy.

Once Jackson & your bunch learns you can tax vice (gambling now & girlies later) they'll find a way to make the sheep more productive.

no zone ain't ozone The air really doesn't smell like vanilla!

Well, the people out on quarry road have had their lives shift gears big time. But you would call that progress I suppose.

814 No, I wouldn't call that progress. Who isn't doing their job to help them get justice? Where is Mr. Reedy? He & Campbell are a council persons. They could pass an ordinance to require reimbursement for damages to foundations, etc.

Maybe they don't want to help because they have other fish to fry. Too busy?

I wonder if they would help if we passed the zoning ordinance & let them tell everybody what they can do with their property? Would greasing a palm or two help? Could they be sitting on top of a future industrial site or something labeled just right for a Cracker Barrel?

Gee, if they seem to be everywhere waving a flag, but nowhere needed, do you think they'll change their stripes?

You are either dumber than the rock you carry or burned once & trying to sell it as a diamond to someone dumber than you. No ... you're ozoned, a snake charmer who is charmed by the snake.

Your post started out fairly well, and then you had to get nasty with the names again. Why? Because I am not as "smart" as you are? Oh pleeeeeeeese! I'm sorry, but everyone can't be as enlightened as others.

Nasty is teling people they need to loose more freedom & choice to get something fixed that you or the oh-zoners will never fix one way or the other!

The answer is simply no zone! The second part is FIX IT & MAKE THE JUDGES AND OTHER GOVERNMENT AREAS RESPONSIBLE TO THE PEOPLE, AS IT SHOULD BE!

If you want to play in feces, your nose will be rubbed in it!
