Giles Free Speech Zone

The purpose of the "Giles Free Speech Zone" is to identify problems of concern to the people of Giles County, to discuss them in a gentlemanly and civil manner, while referring to the facts and giving evidence to back up whatever claims are made, making logical arguments that avoid any use of fallacy, and, hopefully, to come together in agreement, and find a positive solution to the problem at hand. Giles Free Speech Blog Restarts

I have decided to restart the Giles Free Speech Blog for the benefit of all to communicate freely. This entry will be the testing ground as to whether we can continue with the privilege of commenting to articles.
There will be some restrictions on posting.

1) You can post anything you want, that isn't vulgar, as long as you post with your true name and phone number.

2) Any post that does not include your true name and phone number will require some supportive evidence for any negative personal accusations that may be made. Any accusatory or personally negative references posted without your true name or supportive evidence for the accusation will be deleted.

3) Multiple postings will be deleted.

4) Any comment challenged by another poster that does not include factual supportive evidence will be deleted.

I would like to thank everyone who cast their vote for me for Giles County Executive in the Aug. 5 election. Although the end result was not what we had wished for, the last four months of campaigning have been productive in many ways. A foundation has been laid on which a future of progress for Giles County can be built.

Thank you to everyone on this blog who supported me and thank you all for caring about our wonderful county. The support and encouragement our fellow Giles Countians showed to me and my family energized and inspired us during the campaign.

I would like to say a special thank you to those who volunteered to work with, and/or donated money, to the campaign. I will never be able to completely thank you all or tell you how important your contributions have been. This is especially true for my family, who put their lives on hold and worked countless hours during this campaign.

Finally, to the people of Giles County I ask that you remember the slogan I used during my campaign — Expect More. As much as it meant you could expect more from me, it also meant that we should all expect more of our county government. I certainly do.

Thank you,
Scott Stewart

There is probably no one more disappointed than I am that these restrictions have had to be put into place but it's kind of like when children decide they will no longer act responsibly that they have to have restrictions placed on them. It's unfortunate that at this time those who were responsible have to suffer along with the abusers.
Some people abused the privilege of unlimited posting and were too immature to engage in adult conversations thus the restrictions. Hopefully when people can prove to be more responsible and honest we will be able to return to "what we call free speech". Allen Barrett

I would like to thank the people for giving me their vote of confidance in the last election. We are going to be faced with alot of problems in the next four years. I would like to ask all of the commissioners to join together and lets all work for the betterment of Giles County and put personal feelings aside. I think if we do that our county will be much stronger. Thank You,

Allen,
Thank you for bringing the comments back. I look forward to learning more about the city and county through this free channel. And when it comes to free speech, I believe our founding fathers expected that people would have the courage to speak in person or attach their names to written text. The option for anonymous posts is too easy for those who wish to mislead, state false information, or disrupt constructive communications.

Your participation in the county meetings has been an inspiration to me, and undoubtedly many others. I hope you have the energy and conviction to get right back to it, because we need you. If we all keep working at making improvements, I believe the next election will have significantly better results. I'm thinking about how we can make improvements that help us all to be better informed and more active in the operations of the government. "For the people, by the people". I'd love to see it be true where my family lives. Until voter turn-out reaches 85%, I won't consider it done.

Ya know, I understand that Mr. Barrett lost, but you being the good Christian that you are, would not stoop to rubbing someones nose in it. At least he has the moral courage to stand up for what he believes in and not just post anonymous crackpot shots at others. And before I am called a cheerleader, I don't agree with everything Mr. Barrett says, but at least he has the courage to say what he does and then attach his name to it. He doesn't hide behind the anonymous name of a coward. I am just signing my nom de plume, but you already know who I am.

I realize from past experiences with some posters that their ability to read and comprehend has not been fully accomplished.

Rule 2 plainly states, "Any post that does not include your true name and phone number WILL REQUIRE SOME SUPPORTIVE EVIDENCE FOR ANY NEGATIVE PERSONAL ACCUSATIONS THAT ARE MADE. ANY ACCUSATORY OR PERSONALLY NEGATIVE REFERENCES POSTED WITHOUT YOUR TRUE NAME OR SUPPORTIVE EVIDENCE FOR THE ACCUSATION WILL BE DELETED."

If a post is not negative or accusatory there is no need for any
posting of a name, phone number or supportive evidence.
To 7:24 I read the rules as I was writing them, but thanks for your instructions. Allen Barrett

Fact 1 -- WAB finished 4th in a 4 man race-- by a large margin -- for evidence see this blog.

Fact 2 -- Scott Stewart was the 1st
post when the blog reopened. Just coincidence - I don' think so, for evidence see this blog.

Fact 3 -- for the last 6 to 8 years this blog has done everything it could to bash Janet Vanzant. For evidence see this blog. (but you have it blocked currently)

Fact 4 -- as soon as the tables turned to WAB and his cohorts he "took all his marble and stomped away" by shutting the blog down. for evidence see this blog.

JUST THE FACTS AS SUPPORTED BY THIS BLOG!!!!!!!!!!!!

Once again you have allowed your personal anger at me to warp your post into utter foolishness.
The first post made on this blog was ---SATURDAY, 27 MAY 2006 at 7:20 PM and was posted by Kendrick McPeters ---- that is four years ago not six or eight years ago.

Those first three years of post are not blocked and can be easily accessed by anyone seeking to open them.
A simple examination of postings would reveal even to you that the vast majority of postings have nothing to do with Mrs. Vanzant.

The reason for shutting down the blog was fully explained as nicely as I could. To make it more clear for you it was shut down because you had become so rabid in your lies and gossip I had a concern for your mental and physical health and for the sensibility of other readers. Allen Barrett

837 & 619 ok everyone gets it, you told us so, whatever, you should we ever know your identity would be a person that I'd strive not to discuss issues with, not because we might disagree, but because you seen devoid of the capability to have a discussion with any progress. Conversation seems to travel 360 degrees. That's probably the reason the blog was shut down....if you have 2 kids arguing one saying "did not" one saying "did to".....eventually a parent would shut them both up...it doesn't matter anymore. OK so he didn't get elected..now what? are you just going to keep reminding about janet this, janet that, defender...take us all to task, defender?????????? AAHHHH. Wab wasn't running against her anyway, he just doesn't agree with her way of conducting government....whatever....she still won...will rule for another 4 years...move on.

Are we to think that when any matter comes up now...it's going to be more of the same ol, same ol.
I for one would rather discuss what are we going to do now, how are we going to do it, and if I or anyone has a question about how/can/if something can be done...I'd prefer a supported answer. That's how a problem gets solved...question? answer? proof? next solution.....

So I"m not sure if I met the requirements but I am choosing to stay annon for the meantime fearing repercussions, which is sad to me to have to do so. someday that'll change, but I would like to know some identities on here myself, and that too may be a reality someday. If I'm not posted it won't offend me, and I'll check in with the blog when all the meetings start up to see if the detractors are still circling the pool...
and by the way---why does it matter that Scott was the first to post? I don't care if he called wab and asked when...you just made a stab at a man that was thanking everyone for their support/vote/help.....and that is supported by this blog!

I would like to know why 8:37 is so determined to continue acting like a child. The election is over, people voted, candidates are in office. If their candidate won what is the problem. This is not the proper way an adult conducts themselves. I hope that this blog continues,it gives great information about the happenings for which some are not able to get otherwise. Also if 8:37 says their posts contain facts then why did they not post their name and number. Maybe they are ashamed of their conduct here, maybe if people knew who they really were some in the community would not approve of their conduct either. Mr. Barrett I feel what you are trying to do with this blog is great don't let anyone stand in your way. You do have a support group, eventually that group will grow at which time changes that need to be made will occur.

Just read the WKSR report about the ethics violation by School Director, Tee Jackson. Mr. Jackson is quoted as saying "Yes, I did violate the school board policy but 'I didnt mean to do it'!" Sooooo can we all use that excuse whenever we are caught doing something against the rules/laws and get away with it?

It brings to mind the vandalism of Mr. Barrett's political signs and whether or not the accused "meant to do it"!

From what I hear, Mr. McAlister is actually innocent. If that be true, I would suspect that wab is going to be in court. And if Mr. McAlister is truly innocent, I hope he calls the television stations in Nashville to demand that the truth be revelaed. I hear he will do just that. Lots of people saw his signs up the day AFTER Mr. McAlister moved Mrs. Vanzant's sign away from barrett's.

I truly thought I had seen it all. There was much childish, untrue, speculation and down right hateful things said without any type of proof by "anonymous" posters, prior to the election. The new rules for this blog were a giant step forward in requiring some accountability. However, apparently not much has changed and the same anonymous, "fine upstanding" citizens who claim to love this county, claim to be Christian which by definition means an imitator of CHRIST, are back on here WAB bashing, laughing and attempting to humiliate him, thumbing their noses at the rules like they are above it all, justifying illegal behavior and attempting to make a folk hero out of someone who broke the law and are hoping the one that had property tampered with gets sued for reporty a crime. How devoid of morals and character does one have to be to live by that logic. Has anybody heard Mr. Barrett blame anyone for the election results. No, he simply posted them here for the citizens convenience. So he stopped the comments for a while. Do you think he owes you or me or anyone an opportunity to comment on HIS blog? You people who are so obsessed with Mr. Barrett are just plain sick. You know so much more, start your own blog. It is frankly none of your business why he temporarily stopped the comments, but he gave you valid reasons. Had it been me, I would have stopped all commenting unless a person provided a valid email and factual evidence of the claim. And if I was the owner of the blog. I would delete any comment I wanted to without explanation. Being a parent, quite frankly I resent the msg that many of you are sending and that Mr. Lindsey put in the paper that reporting certain crimes, if it embarrasses a few public officials, is wrong and the person who reports the crime should be vilified. To every single one of you who thinks Mr. Barrett was wrong in the sign situation, please remember that he did NOTHING but report signs being tampered with and give the "proper authorities" his videotape. It's not up to you, him, or me to decide guilt or innocence. The "proper authorities" made the decision to move forward, not Mr. Barrett.
So now I have a question to all you who condone criminal activity. If someone becomes a victim of a crime, who do we need to contact to see if we are allowed to report it? Apparently some of you picture yourself as a "Godfather" type person and your little group gets to decide what crimes should be reported. If any of you become victims of vandalism, does the person the POLICE decide to investigate get to sue you? That's what you all are teaching the children and newcomers. All you fine Christians out there who put down Mr. Barrett's job qualifications.....looks like he just got a promotion, he did as Jesus said and "turned the other cheek" and allowed Rabid and crew to spew venom and arrogance. Nothing has changed, let the justifications begin, but before you let loose, ask yourself, would you provide a forum for political discussion and when every other poster hammered you instead of discussing relevant subject, would you "turn the other cheek?" Do you care that that much about Giles Co.

William James,

Facts are facts and all else is speculation. It appears to me that about 99% of everthing on this blog is speculation or even worse--opinion. Fact is no one has been committed of any crime and the last time I check in this great county a person is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law and no one has been proven guilty that I am aware of. The problem with WAB and this situation is not that he reported a "crime" it is the fact that he has done everything possible to publicize HIS side of the story before the case goes to court. And in my "opinion" he shut the blog down and still has many of the comments blocked because he had publicized derogatory comments and was advised to shut it down cover his rear.

I thought maybe you had moved back to where you came from by now. I'm disappointed.
By the way, I think the blogmaster should delete your post, since you made an unsubstantiated derogatory attack against someone's Christianity. Wasn't that barrett's rule?
Let me tell you something about the sign caper. On the afternoon when Mr. McAlister was said to have tossed barrett's signs into the ditch, I went out there to look. All four of his signs were still right there where they had been prior to the accusation. I went back out there the following morning abd found them to be still there. So when, pray tell, did Mr. McAlister toss barrett's signs into the ditch? It's my opinion that barrett is going to be in hot water over this. If I know Clay McAlister, he will see to it that his name is cleared.
I just had to laugh when you mentioned wab's turning the other cheek. You can't be serious.

1:58 Mr. Barrett did NOT seek his own publicity regarding the vandalism of signs by McAlister. WKSR picked it up from cop records. The Columbia Herald picked it up from WKSR. TV channel picked it up from their affiliate, Columbia Herald. TV station contacted Barrett. FACT

William James,

Please remember that a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty. No one has been PROVEN guilt yet. Mr Barrett says he has a video that will prove it. Let's wait until that happens before we condemn someone. Now if YOU have evidence yourself, please post this on the blog. Otherwise, please wait until this all plays out because, as you said in your post, "It's not up to you, him, or me to decide guilt or innocence."

Also, please remember that as the blogmaster, Mr. Barrett is in control of the treads on this blog. Others have asked him to put topics on here that relate to the betterment of Giles County and can be discussed in a rational manner. So far he has chosen not to do so.

Lastly, please remember that if Mr. Barrett had "turned the other cheek" in the sign issue, there would have been none of this discussion on the blog.

Saturday, August 14, 2010 7:20:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Its not a question of guilt or innocence at present. THAT will be handled by the court. What has been resolved is that Mr. Barrett said Mr. McAlister is on tape breaking the law. Note the absence of the word "allegedly" in the statement printed and published by Mr. Barrett. There is a major reason you see that term in print from any reputable publication or in broadcasts over any media source. If you print an unqualified statement that someone broke the law, and they are acquitted or the case dismissed, then you have committed libel and are liable to the person libeled.

Now you know why all the prior postings on this blog disappeared. Thank goodness for printers though.

If Mr. McAlister is proven innocent, then Mr. Barrett could be in a lot of legal trouble. But we have to wait to find out until Mr. McAlister's case is over. Mr. Barrett, too, is presumed innoncent until proven guilty. All will be revealed in time. It could prove for an interesting few months!

If Mr. Barrett would post how the charter government will work, then people can weigh in on the pros and cons without getting into a blame and name calling game. At least that is what I hope.

To anonymous7:01: Without a doubt this blog should be called: anything that the OWNER wishes to call it. If one does not like the views of the OWNER of the blog they are free to disagree, disappear, or develop their own blog with their own rules. Then that person can allow posts that they approve of or not; require positive identification or not; allow no posts, ever; allow posts whenever they want for as long as they want; and state their opinions and ideas all they want without allowing anyone to question them, attack them, accuse them, and/or demand that they apologize, report something in a different way, demonize their professional job performance; humiliate newcomers to the area for asking questions and then request that they leave their home; lump all who ask questions into a group who is constantly slandered; and whatever else they chose on their blog. I just do not understand why citizens on here who presumably have some degree of intelligence, truly believe that the blog OWNER owes them anything regarding the rules and management of this medium. Step up to the plate and since you feel this blog is run so badly, show us all how it should be done. Of course one would then have to give up their anonymity; That might be difficult for some. To the poster who asked me to consider toning down my name calling from a previous post: I sincerely apologize for offending you. I have an excuse for typing as I did, but as with most, it is just that, an excuse. I am now and have always been most frustrated with people who require a higher level of character in some people than they themselves are willing to abide by and equally frustrating to me are those who feel a sense of entitlement, that they are owed a free ride, so to speak. This blog being a prime example, no-one else willing to start another one, it's much easier to attack, anonymously of course, the owner of this blog.
You were very tactful in your constructive criticism of my behavior and I will most certainly consider and reflect on your words to me.
Sincerely,
William James

Is it too obvious to mention that no one's rights of free speech are being denied? I'm no fan of Allen Barrett (let's just call it the understatement of the century) but having and maintaining rules for what can be said on his blog and how it is presented in no way infringes on the First Amendment. The First Amendment (which I'm presuming is what people are referring to when they discuss free speech) guarantees that the government, specifically Congress, shall make no infringement on the right of free speech. This is an individual's blog, one neither maintained by Congress nor regulated by them. Barrett can rule it however he wants.

Exactly 4:28! There are some really stupid people posting nonsense on this blog. They don't think logically before opening their mouths. Those who carry political and other influence in this county are making themselves look intellectually impotent by producing only secondhand info, rumor and feelings as evidence against certain citizens in this county who are proactive in achieving more honest government. All of that is about to change in this county thankful to some who work so hard and diligently to make the public aware of wrongdoing. Wrongdoing runs rampant in this county. Those who try to reveal what is REALLY going on are chastised and condemned. They are treated as second class citizens to trick the minds of the people by trying to portray those who are working to make the public aware as bad, evil, troublemakers. It takes a lot of effort to be deceitful. Some just can't be void of power over the people. If the right things are done the people have the power not those we have elected. This is the way our government is supposed to work. In this town if you haven't seen it with your own eyes or heard it with your own ears you better do you own investigative research before you jump on the bandwagon with the others. The truth catches up with everyone eventually. You can only lie to an entire county for so long and get away with it.

To Clay McAlister: There's concrete evidence that you took Mr. Barrett's sign and threw it into the weeks. If you have any integrity at all, you will simply say you did it when you appear in court and get this thing behind you. One lie leads to another, one cover-up to another. Don't be such a jerk 8:06 Barret has posted several times that the signs were retrieved and placed back in the area where they had been taken from.

To 6:24 you are to much of a coward to come forward for anything. 10:13 is correct after I called the police that afternoon I retrieved my sign from down the hill and replaced it.
There were four signs before McAlister threw one down the hill and there were four signs minutes later when I replaced it. I have never denied that there were four signs after the police arrived only that one was taken by McAlister and tossed down the hillside into the weeds. Now if you want to take me down a notice have at it, very little would be more satisfying than to have you under oath in the witness stand telling who it was that called you moments after I called the 911 operator, but we both know that will never happen because you will not come out from under your rock long enough to do the right thing.

Mrs. Coleman did nothing wrong, and she is going to make us a fine commissioner. She won fair and square as they say, and it just slays me that barrett thinks he can circumvent the will of the people in 7th District over something that was not her fault. Nor was it the fault of the voters who resoundingly told barrett they did NOT want his services. Accept that.

I know for fact, a candidate took his papers in on the last day to qualify as a charter commissioner but he didnt have enough 'good' signatures so he was turned away. Explain that one to me and to that person. Why is it fair for one and not the other?

Very simply, it was a clerical error, and Mrs. Coleman won the election by a large margin. I agree that barrett should respect the wishes of 7th District voters and do the right thing.

This will come out very shortly, and trust me, this has stirred up a wildfire. And don't think for a minute that the defense isn't going to be armed to the teeth.
As someone pregviously said and was deleted, Mrs, Coleman is in the right on this and I too agree that God would be on her side in the matter. This is what she truly believes.

The voters in District 7 have already spoken. Their answer was loud and clear. They want Harwell, Campbell & Coleman representing them. It would be an injustice to have someone appointed to this esteemed position. It just wouldn't be fair to the Distric 7 voters. They trust the people that were elected to have their best interests.

I've often wondered what Jesus would of when I read some of your post.

From now on everyone running for office will check and double check to have they have the right number of qualified signatures.

I'm sorry for Mrs. Coleman, she is the one hurt. I'm also sorry for Kathy, there is no finer person than her, but she or someone in her office made a mistake. I'm sure that would be easy to do.

It will all work out in court, so why can't we keep out of it.

10:36 perhaps you would like to list some of those real issues you speak of.
The things that I have spoken about publicly and consistently as part of "my agenda" are keeping our property taxes at least at the present rate, providing tax relief for senior citizens, preventing a wheel tax, treating all people equally, providing public opportunities for citizens to address issues with their commissioners, require a true balanced budget in accordance with state law, open the county for responsible economic growth where all can benefit not just a few select, restore the distance requirements between places that sell alcohol and churches, schools and public gathering places.
I have offered specific plans for accomplishing these goals. Not once did the other three candidates from the 7th district offer one idea to better the county. In fact they hardly showed up at any rallies and spoke only of family and education. One was at two events, one was at one event and one was at no events.

Whine, whine, whine, whine 8:11. If WAB is not thought well of, it's only in certain circles and those circles aren't talked about very complimentary either. Where you say more dislike WAB, I am hearing more come out in defense of him. Because it is now with all that is going on that citizens in this county are realizing how a certain group attempt to control and manipulate. When you speak, you speak for some but, far from a majority. Because as more comes to light of these situations "REAL" people are beginning to realize how easily it would be to be in the position WAB is in and with all attempts and strong arm tactics being used to keep control of you. So, you keep on living in the blind and believing what you want. You are very mislead in your thinking. As a matter of fact, I think you exaggerate quite a bit. Also, if you think WAB really gives a flip what you and those like you think, then you are totally disillusioned. Hasn't it been said time and time again on this blog to turn wrong doing and such over to the proper authorities? Well, that is exactly what has been done. Only you condemn and criticize continually. Can you honestly not see the hypocrisy? I get such a chuckle at those so vehemently against WAB, contradict their words frequently. Remember it is all in black and white on this blog and can be recalled if need be to prove it. However, I am sure to save yourself the embarrassment you will digress. You know I am right, but unwilling to admit it. Grasping at straws is all anyone is doing at this point. Save some face and let this all play out in court. For one day, and it could be sooner than later, you words could come back to haunt you.

Are you by any chance william allen barrett or his close relative? If you're not, then let me explain something to you. The group that was trying to control and manipulate is, in my opinion, barrett and his small band of followers. That didn't work.
You say people are coming out in support of barrett? Please do yourself a favor and just go ask around town about him. Visit a coffee shop gathering. I challenge you; just bring his name up in conversation and sit back and listen. You'll find out fast just how despised he is. And it has nothing to do with his so-called "positions" on issues. Anybody can take a position on anything, but that doesn't make him necessarily right or wrong. But in barrett's case, his misbehavior is the issue rather than his positions.
I have never had a problem with wrongs being corrected, but we are not talking about the same thing here. Barrett is costing taxpayers a lot of money with his court cases. Can you not see the hypocrisy in one claiming to be the champion of the taxpayers and then costing them wads of money in litigation fees? Oh, I think the one who will need to do some "face saving" is going to be none other than barrett. Yes, it's going to play out in court, and I believe he's going to lose in both instances. He's already lost in the hearts of average Giles County citizens.

I'm amazed to know you speak for the "average Giles County Citizen" and even more impressed that you know their hearts so well. You must be a very intelligent person to have such knowledge.
I don't know Barrett, and as far as I know I have never even seen him. I have spoken with some who do know him and have seen him at meetings and they report that he is always respectful to others until they treat him snobby. I think the only reason there is such a negative involving him is the fact he signs his name to the things he writes on this blog and that has many upset and they direct their frustration against him, had he remained anonymous would there be this "assumed" backlash against him?
The thing that really disturbs me is that some on here seem to think everyone has rights but Barrett. How many with the knowledge and the resources who feel they have been wronged would just let it go? Would you be so inconsiderate to hold up the line at Wal-Mart because the cashier shortchanged you five dollars? Would you hold up the line at Burger King because you didn't get the burger and fries you paid for? If PES overcharged you each month for a year then told you there was no way they would refund the two thousand dollars in over payments would you just let it go? Should all those who were fired from the highway department not have sued the county even though they won? Should those at the jail not have sued the county even though they won? Should Mrs. White have just said "o well" when she was treated unequally by the county executive? I’m amazed that the same person who criticized Mrs White of making it a “racial thing” when it involved a black victim and a white official but now embraces the idea of making it a “racial thing” when there is a white victim and a white offender.
Should the county officials be allowed to do as they please without facing any consequences or taking any responsibility for their mistakes or wrong doing. I too have read a number of times where the most ardent critic of Barrett has stated
take your evidence to the proper authorities and let them decide but when this is done this same critic is furious that his advice has been followed. Does Barrett have the same rights as everyone else or should he be treated different?

Then you owe it to yourself to ask around town about barrett. You'll find out fast that there are VERY FEW people in this entire county who have any liking or respect foer him. That is particualarly true right now. I challenge you to ask around. You will then know where the hearts of the average Giles County citizen is with regard to william allen barrett. It's called Human Nature 101. People do not like troublemakers.
By the way, NOBODY said barrett doesn't have rights. But he is wrong in the way he takes adfvantage of them. Mrs. Coleman won this election big time, and she has done nothing wrong. Granted, someone at the election comkmission made a clerical error, but that doesn't negate the fact that the voters of 7th District wanted Mrs. Coleman and not barrett. He just can't seem to accept that, and I am quite amazed that he has such little respect for the will of those voters.

You probably don't even realize how
anti American your statement is, "By the way, NOBODY said barrett doesn't have rights. But he is wrong in the way he takes adfvantage of them."
If you would enlighten me I might understand where there is logic in your statement instead of just one sided stupidity. You say Barrett has rights but you don't like how he uses them. Would they really be rights if he could only used them the way you choose instead of the way he chooses. If a person wanted strawberry ice cream should they only have the right to get vanilla because that happens to be your choice?
You must feel proud when your liberal pals declare you have rights but you can't eat at Mc Donalds anymore because they have decided it's unhealthy.
Should a person have the right to worship or should a person only worship the way you think they should? It's the same thing.
I think I read somewhere on here that "it wasn't a matter of Mrs Coleman doing something wrong she just didn't do the things that were required right".

Talk about not accepting reality. If someone on here supports Mr Barrett, many of you assume it's him. He has many supporters, maybe some of you should accept that. I don't understand why this is so complicated for some. Ms Coleman got more votes than Mr Barrett, nobody has argued that. However the fact of the matter is that she was not qualified to be on the ballot. Some say she did nothing wrong. That is an untrue statement supported by facts. She did NOT have the required signatures to be on the ballot. She was told she did, but she didn't. Why did she not check, re-check, then double check those signatures for herself. Is this a pattern of behavior, I must ask, because I don't know her? Does she normally do just enough to get by, nothing more, nothing less. That's what happened here and it backfired because of poor planning. By having the bare minimum instead of gathering more signatures, when one was found invalid, she, if one believes in obeying the law, was no longer a viable candidate. One would think that someone with the counties best interest at heart would step up to the plate, admit the shortcoming, respect the laws in place and graciously admit their error. Then regroup and work like the dickens to support the legally elected commissioners until the next opportunity to run for office arises. Those that voted for her threw their vote away, that part is true, but again, the candidate is responsible for that as well for not crossing all her T's and dotting all her I's. You talk about the will of the people; great point, however their will should not override our county's rules for democratic procedures. The only reason that this is an issue is because it's Mr Barrett again going out on a limb to do the right thing, not necessarily the popular thing. Not one of you outraged citizens against Mr Barrett would dream of saying "break the law" "ignore democracy", "forget about fair and honest laws applied equally" if the situation were reversed. Giving into mob rule is frightening to me all because of your prejudice. You all blast WAB for rocking the boat, anonymously but none of you will do it publicly. Your lack of respect for the law is a good reason to remain incognito. I too, would remain anonymous if my value system was what many of you are espousing: that is that the law only applies to certain citizens and some are above it. It's okay to circumvent the law if it is inconvenient for a select few. The bottom line is that there were only 3 eligible, legal candidates on the ballot. That is all there is too it, if you respect the true American way of life. But apparently where Mr Barrett is concerned, the "means" justifies the "end". and the American way is only a technicality to you. How very sad, but even more, how very frightening. Who is next on your hit list of those not entitled to rights, priveleges, and responsibilities that come with being an American in Giles County.

Would you declare that you hate your children because you were simply displeased with part of their behavior? Most love their children in-spite of their behavior because over all they are your children, for the most part they are lovable and there good points outweighs their bad points.

I have lived all over the world and Giles County is the only place that I have ever chosen to live in. I love this place and it's people.
Living in Giles County or any place else, is like living in a house, not everything in that house may be just as you would like it but overall you would not move from that house because the greater part of it is just what you want. Like a house though from time to time there has to be some repairs made, the grass must be cut, maintenance done to prevent the deterioration of the house and a new heating/cooling unit, water heater, etc installed. These things may be costly but they are necessary for the greater good of the person living in that house. Very few people would ignore a hole in the roof especially when it rains and water is dripping onto their TV yet some of these same people will silently watch as their community deteriorates.
I will not move from the place I love and have chosen to make my home nor will I stand by passively while my home/community is deteriorating.
The bottom line is simple, because there are problems responsible people don't run away they face them and make corrections. Allen Barrett

No, you deleted my posts because they were not in agreement with your lofty opinions.
I just had to laugh at your analogy of the home repairs. I suppose you think you are the repairman when it comes to "fixing" Giles County? Somewhere in your deluded mind, I think that is the case. Well, we already have a repairman, but thank you anyway. Giles County citizens and particularly voters in 7th District have sent you a loud and clear message to that effect. They don't need or want your services!
I just thought of an analogy of my own. The roof was just about to collapse on our county government, but there were enough of us (repairmen) out there to make the necessary repairs before that happened. The roof was replaced (election), and the government was saved for four more years. Of course, the bad elements (troublemakers) will beat and rail against it with every storm, but they will not succeed in causing destruction.

He has the right to delete any and all posts or none, require valid contact info or not, name the blog anything he wants, and change the rules anytime he wants. Basically if he offers you an explanation of his deleting or letting a post remain, he is doing you a favor. If you don't like his blog, rules, or opinions, then hey, Einstein, get off his blog. He, contrary to what Boss Hawg and Goober, Gomer and the rest of you think, doesn't owe you a blog and I find your arrogant whining childish rants much more abrasive that WABs tactics ever have been. Was told Giles Co was a nice family oriented community that welcomed newcomers. That was a lie. I feel very unwelcome because I have a different opinion that a native. And I thought Arab AL was "closed" to "foreigners". Maybe is is just small towns, they don't want any new people ideas, companies, etc, which explains why small towns are fading away. No indeed, that was not a lie. In fact, most people who move here will not agree with your assessment. I happen to know, because I've heard too many newcomers say they love it here. In fact, one of my neighbors and good friends is from a northern state. But of course, it wouldn't have made any difference with me had he moved here from Mississippi.
Regardless of where one comes from, it's really up to the individual to assimilate into local culture or to be contentious and problematic. I'm not saying you are either of the two, but those who come here with a know-it-all attitude often find it hard to be well received. That's just human nature anywhere you choose to live. I'm sorry if you feel unwelcomed here, but there are many newcomers who do not share your view.

If you go looking for faults in people, you're going to find them anywhere. I have a friend who lives in a large northern city who could tell you some horror stories about how he has been treated. You know, many times we figuratively make our own beds and then have to lay in them. People are friendly and welcoming when we are the same. It cuts both ways. So please don't blame people for what could be something you need to change within your own perceptions and personality.
