The purpose of the "Giles Free Speech Zone" is to identify problems of concern to the people of Giles County, to discuss them in a gentlemanly and civil manner, while referring to the facts and giving evidence to back up whatever claims are made, making logical arguments that avoid any use of fallacy, and, hopefully, to come together in agreement, and find a positive solution to the problem at hand. Questions About The Ice River Springs Deal?

By now most should know that the deal made several years ago by the Industrial Development Board with Ice River Springs to build a plant in Giles County has now fallen through and they want their money back.
As the story goes Ice River purchased the land for the plant and paid $280,000.00 with the stipulation that they would be given the money back if they did not build in Giles County, now they want their money back.

Some questions that need to be answered are where has the money been these past number of years? Has it been invested? Has it been drawing interest? Has it been spent? Has it been in escrow or buried in someone's backyard?

Is the land now worth the same ten thousand dollars an acre or has the land like most all property in the county lost some value. If the Tax Assessor has a say in this question no doubt the land will be worth twice as much now as before the recession.

There is a Board meeting tomorrow, 14 July at 11 am, in the PES Building. Bring your questions and address them to the board.

I am sure that Dan Speer has this entire matter well under control and that he will do what is for the best interest of the citizens of Giles County. He is a unselfish and veru concerned man who will do nothing but good for Giles County. I say let him be in charge and he will bring prosparity to all of us.

12:41 Are you serious? Your entire statement is meant sarcastically, is it not? Take a look at the square and the development of good paying jobs in Pulaski and Giles County. In my opinion we need to get a qualified person in his position or do away with it. After 20 years in the Mayors office and beginning with virtually zero debt he helped to create multi-million dollar debt for the tax payers, in addition through lack of ongoing maintenance for Sam Davis Park through out the years we were forced to raise the sales tax to now have the highest sales tax in the state and virtually nothing to show for it with the exception of a walking trail, that hardly gets used with the exception of some people that use it as their pets bathroom, the ex-mayor included, I could go on but I'm sure other people can pile on.

Read this week's property transfers in the newspaper . The board gave Ice River back MORE $$ than they originally paid . Nearly $9,000 if we can believe the numbers .
This IDB is a bunch of losers and idiots

Looks like I was given some bad info on the time for the board meeting. While I was getting ready for an 11AM
meeting I was called and informed the meeting had been held at 8AM this morning.

11:16 Before jumping on WAB you should realize that many homes in Giles county cannot receive radio signal. I went back to WKSR web news page where meetings are usually posted but did not find a posting for the IDB meeting. Perhaps I missed it. Could someone else look and tell if they find it? Thanks. I heard that anything announced on the radio is what goes on the WKSR web page.
