How did the Legislative Committee Meeting manage to take place this afternoon without the presence of a deputy sheriff? Was the absence of the county executive, meeting was at 4PM she goes home at 3PM, the reason no one felt threatened and people were able to discuss matters in a friendly open manner?
Is it possible that the only reason the expense of having a deputy sheriff attend committee meetings during the day is that it's only during the day that the vindictiveness of some behaviors creates a paranoia that can't be squelched?

The actions that Barrett takes in this county let me know that he has no rules or boundaries that he lives by. He shows hatred for people that have power. Because they thought that I was the Enabler. I wanted them to know that I am not. It is a very simple concept to follow. I hope you can understand now. When someone calls me by the wrong name I am quick to correct them.
The problem is that anyone that does something that WAB does not agree with is "crooked and evil. Mr. Barrett always says he can prove everything but all he does is give his opinion and that is his proof. No one else's word means anything. Believe it or not there are some very good people out there that are doing their job as elected officials and do it very well and very honestly yet they make Barrett's list of crooked and evil because they don't go along with him.

8:55, I gave my opinion that he was wrong on several situations that I was very close to and knew the truth first hand. I could not prove it without telling who I was and that can't happen because I need to feed my family. He has been wrong on several occasions and I have told him so but of course he said he was right. Since I was involved indirectly and saw things first hand I know the truth. When there were laws in writing he proves he is right but when it is his word against another person he cannot prove it by his word.

That whoe topic is only his opinion and is not true. I have been to meetings and Janet was quiet and professional. WAB has something against her personally and can't help but make offhand childish comments to present her in a negative light. WAB may feel threatened by her. If he went all over town running my name in the ground like he has her, you can bet he would feel threatened by my presence too.

Maybe WAB didnt present his topic in a manner well written, but the fact remains Ms Vanzant does influence the atmosphere in meetings and is ready to pounce whenever a member of the public requests to speak. It is fact that most commissioners are relieved when Ms Vanzant is not in attendance at meetings. The atmosphere is more relaxed and the members feel they can discuss and speak their own minds without influence or their opinions being put down if she doesnt agree. And the above is not opinion but has been vocalized by some commissioners.
I was welcomed to speak at a meeting. Some of the commissioners have some very illogical views that make me wonder how they were elected in the first place. When it came time to really discuss some issues they got mad and cut out. That left the rest of us, including Mrs. Vanzant, to try and discuss some tough problems that the county is facing. She may not be the best person in Giles County for the job but I certainly don't see her as being a threat to anyone that shows a little respect. It gets back to me stating that you have to approach people in an appropriate manner if you want them to listen. I have watched videos of WAB at meetings and they were far from respectful and professional.

I'm sorry that you are making such a strong judgement about me with only a very small section of my life as the basis.
I did not wake up one morning and decide that I did liked Mrs Vanzant or in anyway be disrespectful to her.
Several years ago, during her first term, when the question of her residence revealed an unscrupulous
approach to the election I was very disappointed but continued to hope it was only exuberance of the election.
While I had been told she could be very untrustworthy like most things I refused to believe it until I saw for myself. I always approached her with respect and sought out her opinion on a number of issues before making any public comment.
When she told me one thing then said the exact opposite to another person within my hearing I became more suspicious of her actions.
The big event, other than a number of lies she had told me directly, came when I sought to address the full Commission. I followed every direction I was given by her and then on the day of the meeting she announced that it would take a 3/4 majority vote in order for me to speak. I was denied that opportunity and again met the requirements to speak at the next scheduled meeting with the added Robert's Rules of Order, Commission's own rules and CTAS statement explaining that only a simple majority was needed to allow a non-member of the commissioner to address them. That simple majority was met after I sat waiting until the very last person, some weren't even on the agenda, I was finally recognized and called to the podium. As soon as I stepped behind the podium Mrs Vanzant announced that any commissioner wishing to leave would not be penalized, basically she adjourned the meeting without a motion or vote and I was denied once again the opportunity to speak.
Since that time she has continued to treat me with an attitude of vindictiveness, disrespect and manipulative arrogance. I have a very long list of specifics from the racial prejudice she showed in denying Mrs White an opportunity to interview for the Financial Management Director's position to the outrageous and illegal overturning of the Commissioners vote not to shortened the distance
between places that sell alcohol and places of public gathering, worship etc. Each of these action and others cost the county many dollars.
The two that stormed out were Stoney Jackson and Connie Howell.

I believe the meeting you are referring to was the Budget meeting in which you were pushing for a wheel tax so the highway dept could have more money, and even saying you would get a 2nd job if need be. (Were you there pushing for that tax because grandpa is a member of the highway committee?) I happened to be in attendance as well as you. Connie Howell responded to you by saying that before she was elcted, she had heard from people in her district that they were adamantly opposed to a wheel tax and she felt she had to keep her word to those who elected her. When Stoney Jackson and Connie Howell left, the meeting had ended and they did not leave angry.
In your 2:54 post you state "that left yourself, Mrs Vanzant and a others to try to solve some problems" (or something close to those words). My question to you is - what gives you the authority to discuss and solve county problems? After all, you are not a member of any county committees but merely a member of the public like the rest of us. Too, you are obviously not a very honest one either. You owe Stoney Jackson and Connie Howell an apology.

I thought we elected Commissioners to work the problems out, not Dick, Tom and Harry.
Rather than discuss anything, Stoney Jackson made the motion to have the Finance Director work on balancing the budgets. This was without any discussion or input from the committe on how to go about it. Connie quickly seconded then they both sat with arms folded. Stoney, with a smirk on his face, said, "let her figure out how to balance the budget, that is why we pay her $70k a year". Then Connie said "yeah, yeah, that's right, let her do it". Then the motion was made to adjourn the meeting. It was seconded and the meeting was adjourned. I started wondering what the purpose of the committee was, if it wasn't to discuss how to balance a budget, so I asked for permission to speak. I was granted permission to do so and simply wanted to know why they even had a budget committee if they were never going to discuss anything about the budget. From their point of view, I took at the we could just as well have department heads and a Finance Director and not have commissioners. When I finished explaining some very basic principles of budgeting, Connie Howell got loud for a minute and went on about some reason why the Highway Department could run fine on the money they had.( even though it was finally approved to borrow a million to give to them because the roads were getting in bad shape due to rising costs) Then in a loud voice she said that she didn't have to sit and listen to this and stated that the meeting was over. Which was fine because officially it was. Then Mr. Reedy said that he would like to discuss the issues farther and it was their job as a committee to work on it together. Some of the other members agreed. However, Jackson and Howell left because they thought it should be strictly up to the Finance Director. Afterward, I was approached by nearly everyone else in the room and thanked for my comments. I don't need to apologize to anyone.

B Hyatt has proved he is not a good manager due to (from what I understand) his own business went bankrupt. Sooooo I have to agree with Howell that the highway dept can manage on what the county had already allowed. Maybe if he would lay off some of his workers that are idle anyway because they are not resurfacing roads. What are they doing while they cant woerk on roads?
You readily admit the budget meeting was over so why would you ask to speak after the meeting was closed? Howell and Jackson were free to leave the meeting once it was closed. How do you know they didnt have other obligations waiting?

Stoney Jackson and Connie Howell were very professional in their response to the budget and for your information, the budget had been discussed and it was decided to allow Mrs. Garner to go back and try to balance the budget (in case you don't know is her job). So DAW get with the program. You are so full of yourself that you make yourself look like an idiot. Let the Commissioners do their job. That is what they have been elected to do. With exception of your grandfather, most of the Commissioners represent their constituents and not themselves personally.

The commissioners weren't doing their job by passing the task to the Loretta. They were trying to put themselves in a postition to be able to place blame. When she came up with ways to try and balance the budget, many of you started whining and crying that certain things just couldn't be cut. Well if you aren't going to make tough decisions to better Giles County just because you think that it gives you some authority and power to be a commissioner then you don't know how to do your job. Just keep bleeding the county dry to get elected again. I have every right to say what I think at the meeting because I am county government just like every other citizen. If I feel that the commissioners are sitting with their arms crossed and scared to make a few people mad, I will call them out on it. Usually the guilty or those lacking in knowledge are the first to speak up to defend themselves.

I didn't lie about anything that happened in that meeting. I simply asked why the committee wasn't doing their job? I was also very calm when I was talking. I know that you have a tendency to not be so calm. I didn't falsely accuse anyone of anything. It is a fact that they passed on responsibility. I know that one of the persons I mentioned is connected with the new charter, so I expect you to try and cover for them. No problem, that is your right. I can tell the difference between someone trying to answer my question and when they get mad and and storm out. When you have most of the committee wanting to stay and talk and one yells that the meeting is over, it doesn't look good for the one walking out the door. You are going to write your own country song if you keep up all of that humming.

I have explained, in detail, in other posts why I am for the wheel tax. You can see them in the archives. One of the major reasons is that we are now borrowing money to be covered by the debt service to have to pay for paving roads. The roads in Giles County are in terrible and dangerous condition. We should be using the money in debt service to cover the work to be done in Frankewing. Now we will probably have to borrow money for that. We will eventually have ourselves in the same condition as the Federal Government if the commissioners don't wise up and create the revenue needed to keep the county in good enough shape to attract new businesses. Nobody wants to bring a company to a town that has hit a dead end.

I am glad that DAW revealed what was said in that meeting. One of them is in my district and I will not vote for them again. I don't see anything that makes him look like a hypocrite.
