Job Opening With County Government

There are some job openings with Giles County that you may find interesting and want to apply for.
Qualifications are rather simple, must be a high school graduate or hold an equivalent degree. No felony convictions. Must possess ability to communicate effectively both orally and written. Must possess good people skills, ability to work effectively with different cultures, races, education levels and personality types. Applicant must pass physical and  psychiatric evaluations and have some experience using computers.
All those accepted will be required to undergo intensive training and maintain a minimum of forty hours of in-service training a year.
All applicants must be willing to endure extreme mental and physical abuse in the form of physical attacks using urine, feces, spit, vomit, fist, feet and teeth among other things. Verbal attacks will include extreme vulgarities, racial and sexual remarks about you and your family, and all manner of threats against you and your family.

This position pays $9.40 per hour and can be applied for at the County Jail.

If you have read this far you have just read a very small part of the job description of a Corrections Officer at the Giles County Jail.  These folks, who have the biggest turn over of any county department, are being abused in ways that could only be imagined in the worst of nightmares, are compensated at the rate of $9.40 an hour. $9.40 an hour is less than half what is made by many county office workers; less than a third what some county employees make; some coaches are making more than that in supplemental pay. No doubt those in charge try to fully explain what a jailer is in for in terms of the requirements and the abuse they will face but I doubt they can explain the abuse and abandonment experienced from the county. I suppose it's a matter of out of sight, out of mind. This shameful situation must cease.

Having some county employees sitting in a nice comfortable office making $30,000 plus or sleeping in a nice bed while making $15.00 an hour while these employees are paid $9.40 to endure such abuse should be an embarrassment to the county. The pay and benefits of every county employee should be evaluated yearly to avoid such inequities. All new hires should be done at a rate more in line with their qualifications and responsibilities and not because they are friends or family of another employee.

When the new budget is made I sincerely hope it will include two very large items; one a genuine cut in the budgets of every department that can not justify their expenses and two a complete restructuring of pay for the corrections officers at the county jail.

Why aren't those "abused" employees on here complaining then? As for the pay, I would see it as an opportunity rather than an abuse.
You can't really say they wouldn't post on this blog out of fear, because they can post anonymously. So perhaps you aren't being totally truthful about this?

Monday 3:35 I challenge you to take the time and visit the jail and spend just three hours with a jailer to see if they are abused, I promise that they will allow you to shadow a jailer. If after three hours you can honestly look that jailer in the eye and tell him or her they don't really deserve more pay I'll pay you for the time you spent there.
Now I challenge you to also show one word in the thread I posted that was not truthful.

I was employed as a corrections officer "jailer" for a while, until I could find another job. I would not return to it now if they paid $25.00 an hour. It was the worst 14 months of my life. I went home on sixteen different occassions and could not hug, kiss or be near my kids until the next morning because three times I was exposed to Hepititus C two time is was Hepititus B, eight times it was TB and five times it was HIV. That was not to mention all the names, threats and physical abuse I endured on top of the overworked and backstabbing that went on among the employees. Lastly, I hardly ever enjoyed a day off because I would get a call from a jail supervisor wanting to know if I could come in and work for someone else who had called in sick, causing them to be shorthanded. If I refused, I was made to feel like crap which caused my day off to be ruined anyway. WAB is right on the money, unless you are willing to go to the jail and experience the torment yourself, you need to not post any comment because you don't know what your talking about and you have no right to an opinion in this matter. Keep up the great work WAB, sooner or later somthing has got to give!!!!

What really bothers me the most about our County's payroll system is that we have secretary sitting up in the courthouse filing their fingernails and getting paid twice what the jailers are being paid. That's not right! The county needs to get their pay scale more even among all departments. I know some jobs are more demanding, some are more dangerous, some are more mind boggling but all in all shouldn't the county get things concerning payroll more fair concerning all departments? How could this be done? Any suggestions?

Yes I am a Christian gentleman, and the reason I keep bringing it up is for two reasons. You keep making it an issue and because barrett did lie that I would go along with wrongdoing. Yes, he lied.

I have tried to ignore the whining of 7:31 but they just keep whining and whining about the same thing and never give any reason that could in the most remote way support their whiny claims.
I did not lie about that person being an enabler of wrongdoing and the reason I did not lie is because of the overwhelming evidence that I have produced on this blog in support of my claim. It's real simple if you don't condemn something that is clearly wrong you condone it. If your actions don't stop a thing they enable it. Enable simply means to make possible, practical, or easy.
If your children are smoking, no matter how much you protest about it, and you buy them cigarettes you are an enabler of that behavior. You watch a shoplifter at WalMart and don't report it you are an enabler of that crime.
If you watch a video of a commissioner physically and verbally attack a private citizen and you don't hold that person accountable you enable that kind of behavior to continue. When you see a continual abuse of power or position and do nothing you enable that behavior.
Every Christian that has sat silent in their pew without saying or doing anything to stop abortions or have helped put an abortion supporter in office is an enabler of abortions.
Anytime we fail to hold those responsible accountable we enable wrongdoing.

It's very simplistic to say if you have questions of a county official call and ask or if you don't like it here catch a bus. The unfortunate reality is it's not that easy to get an answer even when face to face. It's just as as difficult to get them on the phone. Ever wonder how a person could be out of their office when you just watched them walk into that office? I've called while standing in the hallway less than fifty feet from their door and been told that person was not in, then walked straight to the door and found the one I just spoke with talking with the very one I had just been told was not there.
I have no problem with the enabler claiming to be a Christian Gentleman anymore than I have a problem with them claiming to be a combat veteran, or would have if they claimed to have been a big game hunter in Africa. I don't know the person, therefore I have no idea what they are or have done other than by what they reveal about themselves on this blog. I do find it perplexing that they fail to show evidence of claims they make. Most veterans are proud to identify their former units even when very reluctant to speak of their personal actions. Most Christians are joyful to proclaim the role of Christ in their life but reluctant to talk about their personal accomplishments in their salvation experience.
I made the claim that the enabler was indeed an enabler and presented evidence to proof the claim. I was called a liar by the same person who criticizes others for referring to someone as a liar. In defense of not being an enabler all that has been presented is the self stated proclamation that they can't be an enabler of wrongdoing because they are a Christian gentleman. When it was pointed out that even Christian gentlemen sometime fail to keep Christian principles they agreed but still contended that they could not be an enabler simply because they were a Christian. Sorry but Jim Bakker is a Christian as is Jimmy Swaggart.

When you called me an enabler of wrong, you lied. Let me say it again; you told a lie, and I don't appreciate it one bit. When you wanted "proof" that I don't willfully go along with wrongdoings, I offered up my best defense. I told you that I am a Christian, and you apparently decided that I was being dishonest. Well, you are wrong and need to let it go. I'd be glad to do the same if you and your one or two loyal followers would just stop bringing it up. Is that a deal?
Oh by the way, in addition to being a Christian, I happen to be a combat vet. It's just too bad if you can't accept that either. I don't need YOUR approval.
By the way, I am joyful in serving the Lord. How dare you in all your arrogance to judge my heart. Isn't that something you have spoken against harshly in the past? Yes.
Let me just close by saying this. As long as you tell that lie on me, I will be here, the Lord willing, to defend myself.
You mentioned Jimmy Swaggart and Jim Bakker. I almost laughed. Don't you claim to be a Christian as well? Right.

I wonder if CG could forget about his dislike for WAB for a few minutes and tell us what he thinks about a former President's new book.
ATLANTA, GEORGIA, March 20, 2012, (1. LifeSiteNews.com) – Former president Jimmy Carter has been strongly identified as a “Born Again” Christian and as a liberal Democrat for nearly five decades. He is once more blending those roles as he promotes “his” latest book, his own study Bible.
President Carter told Paul Brandeis Raushenbush, senior religion editor of The Huffington Post:
Homosexuality was well known in the ancient world, well before Christ was born and Jesus never said a word about homosexuality. In all of his teachings about multiple things – he never said that gay people should be condemned. I personally think it is very fine for gay people to be married in civil ceremonies. (Emphasis added.)
However, he said he drew the line, “maybe arbitrarily, in requiring by law that churches must marry people.”

Why did it not come as a surprise that CG would either, totally misread, misunderstand or just make up stuff to fit his own mind set.
First, no matter how many times you say I lied about you will not change the facts as I presented them. The facts are overwhelmingly clear you are an enabler of wrongdoing. As the saying goes the proof is in the pudding. I never, not once claimed that you were being dishonest in saying that you are a Christian, I even commended you for that but did and will continue to point out that simply saying you are a Christian does not prove anything in terms of what you do or don’t support or enable. As I have pointed out many who refer to themselves as Christians continue to support abortions by voting for those who support abortions and taxpayer funding for them.
I never said that you were not a combat veteran and I even complemented you of that. When you were asked about what unit you were with I did find that puzzling as everyone I have ever known was always proud to identify their unit. Your claim that if you told what unit you were with somehow that would identify you was very feeble. So that is the only question I have raised about your combat or military service.
Please by all means tell me where I judged your heart. What I posted and you responded to was, “Most Christians are joyful to proclaim the role of Christ in their life but reluctant to talk about their personal accomplishments in their salvation experience.” I firmly stand by that and wonder just how you see that as judging your heart? The problem is in your actions of condemning others for things you do; the arrogance with which you proclaim how humble you are and the nonchalant way you dismiss anything you don’t want to deal with such as the deceitful manner in which some officials ignore or violate the law. Even a commissioner who physically and verbally attacked a private citizen was defended by you and you even denied it had happened at one point. I and others can easily see what you do but I have not, unlike you, made judgments as to why you have done such.
Yes, I am a Christian by the Grace of God, not by membership in a particular congregation or my goodness, but only by His sacrifice. Again, unlike you I don’t hide behind my Christianity or try to beat others over the head with it, nor do I use it to try and justify my shortcomings. I am what I am. The reason I used Jimmy Swaggart and Jim Bakker as examples of Christians who still did wrong is they are perhaps among the most famous in our time who were involved is public crimes and repentance.
The bottom line is clear you can claim I lied and that because you are a Christian you can’t be an enabler as much as you want but again the proof is in the pudding and your pudding is too well known to cover up.

Maybe if the ambulance people did not make time and a half for vacation pay, when they have over 40 hours a week, maybe just maybe the county could afford to give the jailers a raise. Who do you know gets time and a half for vacation pay? Does anyone else get that? How many county workers get more than 40 hours per week? My guess is lots of them. Just not fare!

You can present your so-called "facts" til the cows come home, but the truth of the matter is that you told a bald-faced lie about me when you accused me of being one who enables wrongdoings. You demanded proof to the contrary, and I gave it to you. In spite of that, you refused to accept it (judged my heart) and continue to tell that lie. Like I said, you stop lying, and I will have no further need to defend myself. I believe that to truly be a Christian means one does not take part in things he or she believes to be wrong. Did I say that we can't sin? No.
Now, as for the joyfulness of the Christian who is reluctant to share his or her experiences about salvation, I would again disagree. Have you ever heard of testimonies from Christian people who received so great salvation and went out telling everyone about it? Of course, you have if you read your Bible and talk to Christians whose lives have been totally changed by following Christ. I would encourage you to read Philippians 4:4. It's not arrogance and it's not a lack of humility to claim Christ. Even you should know that. And I don't condemn anyone for things I do. "Unlike you", I am not a hypocrite. That's my firm opinion.
Yes, it is the grace of God who allows us the time to become Christians, and it is only by the grace of God that we are saved. "Unlike you", I realize that to be a Christian precludes me from running around stirring up trouble and calling people all manner of names. And, "unlike you", I would have no part in such mischief. And I fully understood your reference to Swaggart and Bakker.
No, the bottom line is that you are continuing to tell a lie. Get past it, and we won't have to keep having this discussion. Think about it. The more this comes up, the worse it makes you look.
While I am outraged by your behavior, I would have to agree with you about the wearing of the name "Christian" by people who support pro-abortion politicians. I too go to church with some of these folks, and it absolutely floors me that they can be a part of that. They excuse themselves by saying they have nothing to do with the murder of innocent children. They know better than that.
Anyhow, time is of the essence, and I must run. I hope I've again been able to clear up some of your additional misunderstandings.

6:02 I do not understand why Barrett or anyone else would have expected facts to have any meaning for you.
Just this morning you were on another topic complaining about Barrett posting the law and showing how it is not being followed like the problem is Barrett instead of those who refuse to follow the law.
Because a person doesn't take your word for something doesn't mean they are judging your heart are you crazy. It seems like what Barrett did was just point out that because you say a thing don't make it so.
You not only completely missed what Barrett said about salvation you replaced his words with totally different ones you thought up.
Barrett did not criticize witnessing what he said was “Most Christians are joyful to proclaim the role of Christ in their life but reluctant to talk about their personal accomplishments in their salvation experience.”
The difference is real Christians brag about what Christ did in them while you brag about what you've done for Christ. You have even written about how humble you are and that is as pridefilled as you can get.
You talk about how you and good Christians don't go around stirring up trouble and you claim to oppose abortion ever think a little trouble stirring might stop some abortions. Have you never heard of such people as Saint Paul, the disciples, John the baptizer or Jesus seems they stirred up a lot of trouble. Maybe troubles stirring is determined by whose ox is being gored?
A simple question, I asked it in an earlier topic. If a law is being violated would you defend those breaking the law and support those who reported the law? Barrett showed the law about voting while having a conflict of interest and how it is being ignored you criticized Barrett for posting the law but didn't criticize those violating it, even you should be able to see that as enabling.
So ignore the facts until the cows come home that will not change the facts.

Thank you for the Bible lesson, but I too am aware of those great men in Scripture. Aren't they among those who "turned the world upside down" for Christ?
And no, I do not go along with or defend something I believe to be wrong. To call me an enabler is to repeat and promote the same old lie I've been defending myself again for quite awhile. I will stop when the lie does.
Look, if there's evidence of lawbreaking, let the accuser report it to the proper authorities and then butt out. To dom otherwise is troublemaking.

You're right. I don't plan to let you get away with a thing in here. I'm glad we both understand that. However, if you would keep it civil and stop calling names and making smart-aleck remarks, you probably won't hear much if anything further from me. But you just can't do that, can you?

You have just proven that you need to calm down before you blow a fuse. but more to the point, you need to look up the word hypocrisy, ask Barrett to borrow his dictionary, and then go back and read your post.

And I am on you. I am not going to let you get away with your enabling ways.

Hey pal; pile on. You do what you have to do, but don't expect me to lay down for your cheap attacks.
As for a dictionary, I shall use my own when necessary. Besides, barrett needs his too much to loan it out. What a laugh.
As for enabling, why do you continue to promote the lie barrett told about me? That also makes him look bad.

12:26 I don't have any buddies on here. No one knows who I am just like no one knows who you are.
You like to dish it out but can't take can you.

3:49 Oh, that's right. There are only two or three of you at the most on here. While I am doubtful that you don't know who they are, I will concede that you are being truthful.
As for "dishing and taking', the onloy thing I've been having to do is defend myself from the things you dish out. Why should I have to take that? When you (or they) stop it, so will I. That offer still stands.

Most people don't read this trash, so what do you expect?

7:19 So why do you read it if you think it's trashy? I read it to see what Mrs. Vanzant and the Cmmissioners are doing. It's not al;l bad news just gets turned into something that shouldn't be said.
The paper want list it unless it's been on this blog a week or more.

1:22 I can explain the hypocrisy in your comments, it's everything you write.
One question, why do you talk so much about Barrett when he hasn't even wrote anything on here close to as much as you do.

To apologize for another is the least sincerest
To forgive without apology is the dumbest
To forget is to repeat

7:59 & 8:14 Cute, but what does that have to do with the topic of this thread?

Anyone have any idea how the county could cut the budget?
I know when making a budget just little small things helps even if it does seem to small to fool with. One hundred pennies makes a dollar. They could soon add up.

This was posted weeks ago on another subject:

Is that why the County has over spent its revenue by $1.2 million per year for the past 5 years? Is that why the County has depleted its $6.5 million reserve when they did have a balanced budget five years ago? Is this why the County Exeutive fought to reinstate the cost cutting proposals presented by Ms. Garner last year? Not a single County office has cut their budget spending for the past 3 fiscal years; with the exception for two of the fee offices. The County Executive is leading the way by approving increases to her own office budget.

Do you run you household the way the County runs its finances? When you run out of money do you go to your neighbor and say ... Hey I am taking more money from you so that I can continue spending at the rate for which I have become accustomed?

Has the County looked into cost saving measures? Such as a consolidated garage where all county vehicles would be maintained? Consolidated office supply acquisition where we would buy in bulk and then distribute to individual offices? Request insurance proposals from all sources that insure County entities rather than taking Mr. Alsup's word that he is providing the most cost effective rate? Just to mention a few suggestions. How about you suggesting where we could save funds?
