What Is Happening At The Elkton School?

What is happening that seems to have turned a once well run jewel of a school into one that now seems filled with frustration, anger,  confusion and morale that is spiraling downward?
There is much talk of serious leadership problems at Elkton that has led to this problem. I have been contacted anonymously with some of the specifics but I will not post those statements until I can put a name with the statements.

Please understand if you would like to contact me about this matter and to discuss specifics our conversation and your identity will be held in the strictest of confidentiality and security.

Perhaps you are smarter than I thought. Of course, you'd better be careful with this. You can be sued.
From what I hear about the school, some teachers are upset because the new principal runs a tight ship.
Do you really need to get this stirred up? Why?

I was at the school almost daily until it got to be such a mess now I no longer go there except to pick up my children.
If it's a tight ship then the principal is Capt. Bligh. I have never seen someone in public behave as he does. Screaming at teachers, threatening and continually putting them down in front of others, students on the other hand are never corrected by him they do as they please and teachers are blamed. It has become so chaotic teachers no longer feel they have any control. Almost constant faculty meetings are just repeats of previous meetings and have become outlets for the principal to express personal paranoid thoughts about teachers. Teachers in adjoining rooms are no longer allowed to stand by their doors between classes and talk with each other, this has led to total chaos in the hallways.

In any situation when change occurs, there will be those who disagree with changes that are made. Unless you are working there on a daily basis and doing your job there, this is an in-house discussion. Sounds like some people need to look for another job and get out. Those who complain become a cancer to the school and its morale. As the old saying goes, one bad apple will ruin the barrel.

8:50 And I will carry that a step further and suggest that the very purpose of this thread was to stir up trouble. Why is the Elkton School situation ANY of barrett's business to begin with?

I have spoken with several teachers about this. They say he is Little Napoleon. The moral at the school is in the pitts. He runs the place like a dictatorship. He does not know how to handle teachers or parents but says he has the children's interest at heart. If your teachers are miserable they are not going to be doing a good job. The principal needs to rule firmly but fairly and needs to have people skills.

I think Barrett has as much right as anyone to be concerned about what's happening in the schools after all we taxpayers are paying the bills. More people need to be concerned and maybe there wouldn't be so many problems.

I have spoken with Mr Barrett on the phone about this very thing 8:04. His response was unless he was a direct witness or until he can put a name on the information provider and confirm it he will not print it.
As for this particular situation he said things that involve underage children are dealt with differently.
I predict this situation will blow up and there should be heads rolling.

Since you post on here 6:42 why do you not contribute with a story? And if you feel "newsworthy" sources have a responsibility to inform you of all local developments why do you not take it up with the local radio stations and newspaper about their poor coverage or no coverage of local events?

I think this blog has helped greatly in covering subject matter and apparently in the proper way since Barrett has never been sued for libel. Would you not agree?

Barrett has stated his reasons for not posting this story and is responsible in his posts, so I do not think your little jabs are going to push him into being irresponsible. Don't you agree?

Look, I'm not the editor of this "free-speech" newspaper and therefore have no responsibility to report anything to anyone. However, I do feel that responsible journalism and news reporting demand that breaking news stories be shared with the readers.'I don't think you and I are talking about the same story. We shall see.

Friday, April 06, 2012 9:17:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Then why don't you tell us what you heard? Barrett might not be informed of the breaking story that you know.

Have you contacted the local paper or the radio stations in regards to your feelings on how they should operate or are you happy with all their breaking news? Maybe you have come to expect more from this blog in obtaining relevant news in regards to the local radio and newspaper? I think it is great that you put so much trust in Mr. Barrett in bringing you breaking news.

My feeling are if you know a story and your post is demanding some one else do what you can do yourself then why write any thing?

As blog moderator I do not feel Barrett's responsibilities fall into the category of editor. Maybe you are just confused and do not know the job description of an editor. In fact if you read you see Barrett listed as contributor and not editor.

But since you have a breaking story why do you choose not to share it with your fellow citizens or are you being responsible like Barrett is in his reasoning for not posting the story you seem to know but are to afraid to write about?

Never mind you told us you are not a contributor. It is obvious you are here just to throw stones and cause trouble.

4:32, this is a blog. People discuss whatever the blog owner chooses to discuss. He can choose all of the news, some of the news, or none of the news. He also can do any combination of the above. He can also delete any post that he chooses to for any or no reason. That is the meaning of a blog and blog ownership. If Mr. Barrett isn't printing enough news for you, by all means, email him what you know and can PROVE. My guess he will probably post yours news item, provided you have reliable sources. However, never having met Mr. Barrett, I can assure you he is a more patient man that I am if he leaves your post on HIS blog ORDERING him to put a topic of your choice online. Not only would I not comply with your order, I would delete every post you submitted. Your arrogance is appalling and I just have to ask, since you are so smart, why not start your own blog and "report ALL the news so that Giles Countians may be fully informed."

You would delete every post I submitted? Wow! Please explain how that would be consistent with the name of this blog.
I have neither the time nor the inclination to start my own blog. However, I just think all newsworthy events should be reported here and particularly since keeping people informed seems to be the primary reason this blog exists. Right?

Friday, April 13, 2012 9:41:00 PM

4:32 post is clearly an order. Yes if I owned the blog, I would delete all of your posts, or anyone else's that did not stay on topic or spouted off inconsistencies or whiny child-like rants. Nor would I let someone slander a private citizen. If a private citizen's name came up, the poster and all responders would have to provide facts, not feelings. Public officials willingly put themselves in the public eye and should be prepared for scrutiny and critiscim. (I have no idea how to spell that word!) I do not know Mr. Barrett, therefore I do not know the primary reason for this blog as you seem to know. I have an opinion, but no way to prove it. If you are unhappy with the topics, rules of posting, responses, or the lack of "ALL" the news, you have a couple of options: 1. Don't read the blog anymore 2. Don't post any responses anymore 3. Start your own blog and make your own rules.
It is so hypocritical to say you would order him to shut the blog down. If you are correct in all your asinine assumptions, the blog would die a natural death if you alone simply stopped posting. The blog shutting down is NOT something you want, not if one goes by your behavior rather than your words. And one last thing, personally I feel that hoping someone would move away and expressing those desires publicly in a negative light sounds like you are trying to embarass and humiliate a brother in Christ. As I previously posted, just an unbiased observation.

The principal is well educated. He has only been in education for about 10 years. He does not know enough about running an elementary school since he has never been in elementary education. He does not play well with others. He definitly is not a people person.

8:50 I except you saying WAB knows it. It's not his place to tell it.
There must be a reason he hasn't told it. Did you ask WSKR or the paper why they don't tell it?

Could the reason it hasn't come out be they are still collecting evidence?

Or was the story what came out in the paper about the 80 year old McAllister man the huge story? That seemed pretty huge to me.

TBI Arrests Giles County Resident
Posted on May 02, 2012

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Pulaski,
Tenn. man on several sex charges after information was developed this week about male and female juvenile victims he had abused over the course of approximately the last seven years.

Maurice Dale "Jimmy" McAllister, 80, of Pulaski, Tenn. was arrested yesterday on one count of aggravated rape, one count of sexual battery and one count of aggravated burglary in Giles County. Details of the abuse were uncovered this week by law
enforcement and the District Attorney General requested TBI to investigate allegations of sexual assaults of several members of a local Amish community in Giles County.

In addition to the arrest, TBI executed a search warrant yesterday on McAllister's residence located at 2750 Big Dry Creek Road in Pulaski, Tenn. to obtain evidence in the case. The investigation is continuing and the subject could face additional charges at a later date.

McAllister was booked into the Giles County Jail on $250,000 bond.

8:50 I knew it wasn't Clay. Someone seems to want to make some sort of sick-connection to him because of the sex offender. I wonder if that post would have made had the perpetrator had a different last name.
Time will prove Clay is also innocent of the charges that he tampered with election signs.
Thanks for the post.

I have been keeping up a long time, so it's pretty clear who posted this, but even for your erratic behavioral patterns, this is a new lower level of immaturity. Nobody is going to BEG you to tell what you know, as it is pretty clear, you know nothing. That "he knows" baloney is no different that actually telling the so-called story (If there was a story.) You WANT someone to tell it but your gutless personality makes you too afraid. Grow up or shut up, child.

That's not true and you know it. Giles County is cutting and trying to mbalance the budget. Ask any of the commissioners, Mrs. Vanzant, or Mrs. Garner. Why do you think some teachers got laid off?

Wednesday, May 16, 2012 7:38:00 PM

Yes, Mrs Garner told them several things they could do but Vanzant put them back in didn't she.

Is Tee Jackson the only one cutting his budget???

If you look at the budgets from two years ago and compare it to last years you can not find any cuts.
It was all talk and you swallowed it hook line sinker and pole. The numbers do not lie while politicians do.
For six years we were told the budget was being cut but in reality they ate up seven million in reserve funds. Just look at the numbers and you'll see the budget has gone up every year. Vanzant's office saw a big increase last year at the very time she was talking about all the cuts. Don't be a fool look at the numbers.

I find it disgusting that teachers were laid off and that insurance wasn't paid. And, contrary to the lie allen barrett told on me that I willfully go along with wrongdoings, someone should be in deep trouble over this. I do not condone mischief.

I can understand if money was spent in the wrong place, but I can't understand the insurance not being paid. More people than Garner needs to go. Or do you think Garner didn't need to resign? Didn't you always say you didn't know enough about the problem with her to comment?

I will state the facts of what happened at Elkton school, under Micheal Gonzales watchful eye.My daughter came home one day.Told me that a couple of girls had been calling her foul names and so on.I said, well you need to ingnore them and if it keeps up, go to the office.Again came home, names had turned to bumps in the hall and such.So I said,go to the office tell them what you told me.She did,3or4 times. So on a visit to the school.I explained the situation to micheal Gonzales, that after coming to them repeatly, she was shoved in to the lockes. I expressed that my daughter had done everything to avoid getting into trouble. Her main concern at the time. But,she was not going to be physically abused by these girls, that he needed to do something about this.He asured us that it would be dealt with, and we had no reason to be concerned.well, needless to say..My daughter ask her teacher to go to the office. She had heard she was going to be jumped. The teacher choose to not let her until after class. As she left that class, she was jumped, and surrounded and the result was a split on her fore head, resulting in a small scar.bleeding from nose and mouth. In other words she got the mess beat out of her.I knew the other girl and could not belive she was able to do all this.My daughters response was,If you hit back you'll get 3 days.Well let me inform all.You get 3 days anyway..So what would you do next time.I tranfered her out of there. No wonder you hear of a fight of some sort almost daily. But,on top of that.I called an ask to speak with Gonzales, first time,he left for the day.same day mind you.second time,it was something else.third day.Still can't get ten mins.on phone or in person to even acknowledge that I had concerns and questions.theres more to this but,you get the picture. But to add insult to injury,I had to go by and pick up some papers the other day.And gonzales with his mature and guiding leadership.,offered my daughter her 8th grade certificate. As he proceeded to give it to her,he ripped the certificate in half, and stated I know ya don't want that.Isn't that what you just ask us?Well, enough is to much.Glad mine is out of there, and in my opinion he needs to be too.
