Giles Free Speech Zone

The purpose of the "Giles Free Speech Zone" is to identify problems of concern to the people of Giles County, to discuss them in a gentlemanly and civil manner, while referring to the facts and giving evidence to back up whatever claims are made, making logical arguments that avoid any use of fallacy, and, hopefully, to come together in agreement, and find a positive solution to the problem at hand. Why not just call the station manager and ask him ??

There were adverts in the newspaper for the old blog before politics shut it down . Maybe someone could collect $$ from bloggers and do that again ? How about it Mr. Barrett would you do it and contribute ?

Probably the same reason he, the manager, will not broadcast the county commission meetings. He thinks no one cares about hearing them. I know of several have cantacted him and ask that they be broadcast, but you haven't heard them have you? It's seems when there is no competition they broadcast & print as they please.
Competition is good in any venture. It's keeps the cost down & both sides are told.

Anonymous,

It's actually quite a bit more sinister than you think. Ronnie Rose, the station manager of WKSR, refuses to broadcast the County Commission meetings because he thinks people WANT to hear them, but would draw conclusions from them that he disapproves of. I know this sounds pretty absurd, but he confessed to this mind set a few years ago, in a guest column in the local paper. He basically insinuated that the people of Giles County were a bunch of idiots, who would, if allowed to listen to County Commission hearings, get consumed in conflict between the city and the county.

I don't have the guest column handy, but I believe I've paraphrased Mr. Rose's position fairly. If you think that he won't air the meetings due to lack of public interest, then email him -- ronnie@wksr.com -- and ask him for yourself.

Think about it.All the local news in Giles county is controled by one family.newspaper, radio, internet, printing co.If you control what people read and hear you control the people.would you allow a different source to exist if you could stop it?

Under another section of this blog Flo Winkles points out that in years past WKSR broadcast the full commission meetings. Wouldn't this be great if our local radio station started this up again? Since commission meetings are held during normal working hours it means a limited number of Giles Co citizens are able to attend. Many in our workforce are very anxious to know what is happening locally and have jobs that would enable them to listen to the radio without interfence to their work.

I sometimes listen to the Friday a.m. presentation by the Co Exec which gives the agenda, sometimes opinions and discussion of the upcoming commission meeting. What a plus it would be to have the full meeting in our homes. This could also help our homebound folks who are having to log onto this blog to update themselves as to what is going on in the county.

Any chance of getting these broadcasts reinstated Mr. Rose? I tried to contact you by telephone but unsuccessful. Thanks a bunch for your consideration of this important matter.

TO SHIRLEY PROUD: Please note my previous posting on the "An Open Letter to WKSR.com" blog. I would greatly appreciate your input on this. Hopefully we can all come together to resolve this issue for our citizens. After all, it does seem to be the least we can do considering all the important issues we are now facing in our community. Sincerely, Tammy Pollard

Why is gasoline cheaper in Lawrence County? Now THAT is something that needs an immediate investigation and any and all who are found guilty of something sinister must be exposed on this blog. Let the heads roll.....as long as one of them isn't yours.
I was wondering why a privately owned business should be forced to air anything. Could someone enlighten me? Thanks.

I would guess that Mr. Jackson, Mrs. Vanzant, and George Bush are all behind the gas gouging. Has the investigation begun yet?
