E-mail topic: County Executive Column?

If the local paper was to offer the County Executive a regular (weekly ?) column to keep the taxpayers informed of what's happening in County Government would it be of interest to the readers?? Or would they rather just keep on reading who won the 9 yr olds baseball game ?

If the local paper was to offer the County Executive a regular (weekly ?) column to keep the taxpayers informed of what's happening in County Government. I think that would be an excellent idea. I know I would be very interested in reading the news about what's going on. Do you think this will ever happen? Maybe the candidates that are running for office could give us an answer?? (on this blog) What about it candidates? could we have your answer to this question?

Hopefully the column will be done by a person with enough ability to understand what is going on. the current one could not explain anything because she can't understand it. Get he alone in a room and ask her to talk about the budget, audtis, even simple information. she'll call a lawyer. Just check the bills and see how many times she needed an attorney to explain simple stuff to her. too bad they did not explain the jail fiasco or the courthouse painting scenario faster.

This site is truly ridiculous. You are calling 3,747 people in giles county 'the lowest people of giles county which have no integrety', 1/4 of the reigstered voters that reside here in a county of over 29,000 people. You and all the others are completely insane to consider that many people stupid who are simply exercising their rights given to them by our constitution. You and your buddies were probably one of or would have participated in the many actions in our history that tried to strip people that had different views from them the right to vote. Also you are giving the majority of those that voted fot Mr. Gordon a bad name. I', sure you nutballs that are making up and writing these obscure stories don't represent the majority of Gordon supporters or Mr. Gordon himself and if you do THANK GOD he didn't win.
Get over it the majority has spoken and disagreed with you. You have plenty of time to think up more crazy insults and stories over the next 4 years.
Good job Janet

Not all voters or residents are stupid, but the ones that chose to believe what ever Janet said are just plain stupid. If they saw her in action on daily basics then they might know the full extent of her lying. Janet and her helpers started sooooooooooo many lies during the campaign and if you and her other admirers are not aware of this fact then check for yourself.

I will just post a few:
She repeatedly told people she saw while campaigning, “I am just a single mother trying to raise a child.” NOT TRUE!
“I live in Giles County” NOT TRUE!
When questioned she said, “Oh that is just my summer home” NOT TRUE!
“The “lie” she told to influence the early voting” NOT TRUE!
Just before 8-3-06 on the news and in the paper she said, “We were never in non-compliance” NOT TRUE!
“She said, “I called the state to request a full audit” NOT TRUE!
She told the employees at the ambulance service, “If Mr. Gordon gets elected he plans to fire all of you” NOT TRUE!
There are so many, many more.

What about commissioners who try to use their "power" to get relatives jobs in exchange for votes when those people are not even qualified for the jobs. The good old boy system!! Or get their relatives out of tickets with the police department. I hope that the new commissioners will have more morals than that. I fully realize that the pay as a commissioner is next to nothing but the citizens of Giles County shouldn't have to pay the way for them in other ways.

The Anonymous Post of Saturday, August 05, 2006 10:42:45 AM,
Just before 8-3-06 on the news and in the paper she said, “We were never in non-compliance”

This was reported on the radio and in the paper and Mr. Stoney Jackson called the radio station and complained because they reported it. I want to know why, Mr. Jackson?

So, I’m not convinced we could get a accurate account of what is really happening and who would actually be the author of it.

The question at hand and people are bird walking on is, Newspaper doing public service to community by letting County Executive report to citizens. I myself could care less about what is going on in Franklin County or Fayettville. So why would we want Janet writing an article about what's going on. AND YES SHE IS A LIAR ALONG WITH HER PARTNER'S IN CRIME. SHE KNEW WHEN SHE TOLD CHRIS MORRIS AND LYDIA CROSS THAT IT WOULD SPREAD LIKE WILD FIRE. And yes I was yelling. But only God can take care of people who use their mentally challenged child for their gain. He should be taken away from her and put in an environment that is more moral than his mother. I hope she squirms when she is in church knowing what she has done. If more people could hear some of the things that senior citizens have said about how she treated them and wanted them to deceive they would cringe. But they are good God fearing people that have gone on with their lives and letting her to continue to condemn herself. And God forgive me for this criticism but I have to let people know what this poor county has been deceived once again.

Mr. Gordon was given a ton of evidence Janet did over the pass four years and he would not use any of it during the campaign. I had never met him but I saw right there at that meeting what kind of person he was. I just hate the county missed out on such a great man to be our leader.

They get paid per meeting, 60.00 for commission meeting and 30.00 for all committee meetings.
Commissioners’ average pay per year is, 500.00 to 600.00
But not the case with Mr. Stoney Jackson, who averages 3000.00 per year because he his on so many more committees.

All this done at the hands of our County Executive and people wonder how she got re-elected. The commissioners she favors went out in their own communities and campaigned for her and in return, she appoints them to more committees.

It should have been up to date for Tommy has most recently obtained it. Again I thank you for the correction.

We assumed (which could prove to be a very dangerous thing these days) that the list was the most up to date. Tommy went in to the Co. Exec. office and simply asked for the existing committee list and this is the one that was given to him. He still intends to check on this while at the commissioners meeting on Friday morning. I might add that this will be a very important meeting in which the citizens would also be interested in. From the information that we have, there may actually be a vote on the "Spring" issue. I can only speak for myself, but I'm very concerned for the rush to make such a decision which could potentially hurt or help our county residents for many years to come.

Mrs. Flacy is probably a very nice lady, but she has no business being on the Argi-Park committee. To my knowledge she never attends any events there and even wanted to sell it. It has been a long year!

Is there any proof of the request for a 6000.00 raise for Jane? I have attended many of the former and new commissioner meetings and I haven't heard anything mentioned about the request or the approval of a raise for her. I would think that would be a rather absurd request considering the fact that we cannot seem to get a mere 1000.00 raise for our teachers.

YES IT IS TRUE! When all departments submitted their budget request right before the new commission was elected, Janet included the $6,00.00 raise for Jane in her budget request and the commission voted for it. You can call Mr. Edwin Lovell or any of the other commissioners on the budget committee or any commissioners for that matter. When Janet took office, she asked the commission to allow her to hire Jane for one year to help her since it was her first term in office. This term she got four more years and a big raise.

The main reason you didn’t hear about Jane’s raise is, the budget meeting are conducted in a private place with only the budget committee members present & when the commission meetings take place, where the public attends, the votes are for Mrs. Vanzant’s budget as a whole and not an itemized list. So, if you were in attendance in that meeting, you would only be aware of Mrs. Vanzant’s budget being voted on as her total budget and unless you ask questions and hunt for information, you will never know what all the request are. I happened to get a copy of her budget before it was voted on.

We only see part of the puzzle at budget time.

Is the newspaper even trying to explain what is going on with the county government? don't let Janet write a column. it may be the only way we get any information about the workings of the county and that would be a shame. we know how truthful that would be.

Instead of a column which at best is only a dream, make a column by writing letters to the editor. There should be several letters each week about what and how things are being done in this county.

I'm surprised that Pulaski Publishing (Lake incorporated)does not charge for letters to the editor. They don't even put Little League baseball pictures in the paper any more because they consider it advertising.

A column in the paper would be nice for Mrs. Vanzant to explain why she doesn't want to accommodate the public (taxpayers) attending the commission meetings to hear what is discussed.
