Catch 22 With The City Council

How does a citizen gain the opportunity to address the city council? According to the City Attorney you address them while they are out of session. The problem is when they are out of session and out of the room how do you address them? Well according to the mayor that’s not his problem. Recently I was told during a City Council meeting, by the mayor, that the proper place to address the city council was in their work session so I waited until the next work session and tried to ask a couple of simple questions. I was not allowed to by the mayor who simply got up and started to walk out until the council said I could ask the questions. The mayor refused to return to his seat. I asked why the city was paying over $70,000.00 a year on telephones. How many cell phones did the city have out, how many minutes were being used and if anyone was monitoring the use. The city manager was pointed out as the one handling that issue and he said that he would have those numbers by the next council meeting. At the next council meeting not only were those numbers not made available the city manager denied ever committing to get the numbers. Council members sat silent but the surprise showed on several members faces. Mr. Harrison just laughed it off and denied any such commitment even when one of the council members stated that she remembered he did say he would get those numbers. What is the hold that the city manager and mayor have over the council that would cause them to sacrifice their good names and reputations to silently support a known lie? Allen Barrett

You raise an excellent question concerning wab's sermons. I often wonder what he preaches about. I'm certian that he comes down hard on a Christian's duty to love his neighbor and to pray for those who despitefully use us. Oh, and turning the other cheek is no doubt one of his favorites. Laughable, indeed.

To Anonymous of the 7 Dec. 10:22 double post.
To reduce your wondering I invite you to come attend worship services with us at Union Valley Baptist Church. We are located on Shuler Branch Road just north of Campbellsville. Sunday School starts at 10 AM with worship services at 11AM. We also have worship services on Sunday night at 5:30PM and Bible Study on Wednesday Night at 6PM. You would be very welcomed by some of the nicest folks in Giles County. Oh, by the way this invitation and promise is open to everyone.
As to how do I find time to prepare sermons, I have a very good friend named The Holy Spirit that prepares them for me. Allen Barrett

Does the Holy Spirit guide you into all truths? Are you so guided when you call people names and try to ruin or embarrass them? I don't think the Holy Spirit works that way. Wouldn't that be a bit hypocritical?
In closing, let me say thanks but no thanks to your invitation to attend church with you. I attend church as well, and I don't think I would like the way you are guided...and worse yet, how you are apparently guiding others.

To Anonymous of the 10 Dec. 12:56 post.
You ask, “Does the Holy Spirit guide you into all truths?” Yes, He does, doesn’t He guide you? Read John 15:13. It’s a matter of discernment, that’s a gift of the Holy Spirit. Read Hebrews 5:14. Most people know what the truth is but are very reluctant to acknowledge that truth because it would then require a responsible reaction to that acknowledgement. That seems to be where you and I differ I am not afraid of responsibility or the difficulties that accompany it. You on the other hand hide behind your anonymity and rest in your spurious ignorance. It is only a refuge of lies that will never give you real satisfaction or peace.
I have tried to ruin or embarrass no one. I have exposed some behaviors if it has proven to be ruinous or embarrassing it was the result of those who committed ruinous and embarrassing situations not the one who exposed them.
If you don’t think the Holy Spirit exposes wrong behavior I suggest you read a few examples of His Work. 2 Kings 2:23-24 comes to mind from the Old Testament and John 2:14-15 from the New Testament. Some hide behind their piety as justification for their doing nothing and the result has been that evil has flourished and Christians have lost their moral standing. Hypocritical, seems a strange word for one to use who doesn’t have the will of his convictions to be identified with them, but to be applied to The Holy Spirit, not on your life.
I’m disappointed you reject my invitation but am glad you attend church. I’m very disappointed that where you attend is not guided by The Holy Spirit. Can a Christian Church not be led by The Holy Spirit and still be a Christian Church? I will still pray for you and seek your prayers when they are offered up under the guidance of The Holy Spirit. Allen Barrett

The above post clearly defines the kind of "spirit-led" man you are! What arrogance! Where do you get off telling me that we don't have the Holy Spirit in our services just because YOU aren't there!!!! Oh, this one takes the cake. Were I a member of "your church", I would place membership elsewhere. You seem the greatest of Pharisees. Are you?
Please spare me the sermon on the gift of the Holy Spirit. I too read the Bible. You do not have a corner on the market.
No, don't look for me at your church anytime soon. I'd quit altogether were that my only choice. And I don't suppose you see that you could have the same effect on others besides me, can you? Your actions are so deafening that I cannot hear a word you might say.

To anonymous of the 11 Dec 12:01 post. On Monday, December 10, 2007 12:56:00 PM You stated, in response to being invited to attend the church where I pastor, “I attend church as well, and I don't think I would like the way you are guided”. You made this statement after I assured you that I believed my life and ministry is led by The Holy Spirit. I did not say where you attend church was void of the Holy Spirit because I am not there. Once again you let your dislike of me block your brain from processing information. It was your statement, “I don't think I would like the way you are guided”, that implied you do not seek guidance from The Holy Spirit and thus would seek to attend church where The Holy Spirit is not present. How sad that you make such imbecilic statements then try to cover your miss-speak and unwillingness to take responsibility for your words by accusing others for your shortcomings.

Now does your statement, “You seem the greatest of Pharisees”, imply the kind of judgment you falsely accuse me of displaying? My, my, is there a log in your eye? Could it be possible that it is your hypocrisy that interferes with your hearing more than my behavior? The foolish person fails to see what is so clearly before them the evil person refuses to see that truth because it fails to fit their agenda. Allen Barrett

Thanks for attemp[ting to describe my behavior. Yes, you DID imply or "suggest" that where I attend church is void of the presence of the Holy Spirit. And it was an arrogant statement. But, true to form, you start backpeddling when someone like me points out the arrogance. And then you call my behavior imbecilic? How convenient.
You talk about judging me when you imply that my church doesn't have the Holy Spirit. Why don't you pray for me instead of cast stones. And you think I am hypocritical? Utter foolishness.

I have paid my taxes on time and shopped in Giles County for the most part. What WAB is doing and has done is what I and every other person in the county should be doing but for whatever the reason we have left it up to him and others like him. I applaud him and his efforts as a champion of the people. You keep bringing up the election and I must say as much as I wanted him to win I believe losing has allowed him to have a greater effect.

Hey, I was trying to be politically correct there by addressing you as spokesperson.
In your mind, it's ok for your hero to get on this blog and say anything he wants to about those who are on his list, while those of my persuasion are not allowed rebuttal? How can that be? As I have said numerous times, I do not personally hate wab as you accuse. My hatred (if you want to call it that) is for his arrogance and presumed higher level thinking that continually causes him to "expose" his rear end. And I have just as much right to point that out as he does to get on here and call people names and attack their integrity!

To Anonymous obviously being politically correct is more important to you than being politically right.
I have not supported wab saying anything about anyone except what he has supported with evidence to back it up. If you are willing to describe something that is obviously not true and put your name on it you have earned the right to refer to the person who knowingly told that falsehood as a liar. Now if you have a rebuttal of information to dispute that original statement and put your name to it you have every right to call wab a liar. But you do not have the right to attack him on a personal level when you acknowledge not knowing him and you are only reacting to what you have thought up in your own mind.
I am still awaiting your list of accomplishments that you offered to give if I gave mine. Doesn't that make you a liar not because of your personality or my personal thoughts toward you but because you simply said you'd do something you had no intention of ever doing.

You did it again by making a statement that applies only to yourself. You wrote, "One thing is for certain; I don't go about bad-mouthing and trying to ruin people I don't particularly agree with". How amazing in another blog entry you admit to having a "strong prejudice" and anyone not brain dead knows that prejudice is dislike or hatred with out justification. Wrong! While the term "prejudice" in simplest form would be a dislike or hatred without cause, I think we both know it occasionally has a more far-reaching meaning. I'll not try to match wits with you on this, because I'm persuaded that you are trying to put a spin on this in order to discredit those like me who do not see things in the same light as you do. And then you have the nerve to attack my as being hypocritical. What a laugh. Your hero can call people anything he so chooses and you get angry with me when I give him another much needed spanking. Isn't that a bit hypocritical of you?

Did you not just "expose" yourself as the anonymous writer by the last paragraph of your above post? If not, I'm quite confused, but that's understandable of a person who is called "dumbo" on this blog.
Prejudice is a word most hated by me, and it absolutely does have more far-reaching meanings(or applications) than may be found in a dictionary. I submit to you that a good example would be the attitudes of people who have a hatred and resentment toward elected officials without "good" cause (good being the operative word). Perhaps what I'm trying to say is that there may be degrees of prejudice and hatred?
I could go into this further, but my family is at long last here and we are about to enjoy our Christmas dinner. Thank God we can still say Christmas!

But the point you miss is that familiarity (with you in this case) breeds contempt.
Let me try again to enlighten you on the more far-reaching aspects of prejudice. Prejudice and hatred seem to be double first cousins, wouldn't you agree? Having said that, I would say that some people may be guilty of allowing their resentment of others to drive them so far as to hurt people not directly the objects of the prejudice. And that is what I would define as more far-reaching than the original prejudice itself. But I'm sure, in describing my behavior, you would say that the more I talk about this, the more I am confused. Right?

No, hypothesis and diagnosis are not the same. The former has to do with an idea that will either be proven or disproven, based on research or testing. On the other hand, a diagnosis is made AFTER the testing and research.
