Giles Free Speech Zone

The purpose of the "Giles Free Speech Zone" is to identify problems of concern to the people of Giles County, to discuss them in a gentlemanly and civil manner, while referring to the facts and giving evidence to back up whatever claims are made, making logical arguments that avoid any use of fallacy, and, hopefully, to come together in agreement, and find a positive solution to the problem at hand. City Alderman Resigns

The announcement that businessman and long time Alderman Tommy Watkins has resigned from the City Council has left folks with many questions. This resignation comes only a few weeks after resigning from the position of vice mayor. Does this have anything to do with the police chief's sudden retirement, is it connected to questions that have been asked of the mayor but ignored, could it be that he finally had enough of the shenanigans taking place in the mayor and city managers offices? A good man can only tolerate misdeeds for so long.

I see that Kent Allard is about as low as WAB and McP. Could the questions been asked in a neutral manner, then let the discussion go from there?

Don't forget, Kent Allard was trained by McPeters himself, so what do you really expect? With these guys, the only explanation for everythying is that there was some sort of conspiracy or wrongdoing that the public should know about but the county government is hiding.

I, for one, am sad to see Mr. Watkins resign. He has provided our community with years of service, that apparently, many can not fuss about. Thank you Mr. Watkins for all you have done in our city and county. You will be missed. I hope you a life of health and wellness for you and your lovely family.

So true. Something always has to be wrong or negative. Will they try to dig up some dirt on Tommy Watkins? Probably so, and it's a shame. Can we expect an "exclusive" report?
Good luck, Mr. Watkins. Thanks for serving our community.

Yes, Mr. Allard, everything that happens in this town is due to some sort of conspiracy. Thank you so much for exposing all of the horrible things that everyone in a position of power in Pulaski has done. Perhaps I should rephrase that to "everything done by a person in a position of power in Pulaski is horrible". Right?

Why is it our business why Mr. Watkins resigned?

Good question! Is Kent Allard even a real person? I think that he is fictitious, made up by McPeters himself because he thought that would get people to quit posting insults about him. I mean, really...Are we expected to believe that McPeters found someone who wants to devote as much time towards a negative local blog as he does/did?

Kent Allard was the famed "Shadow". Check out this link. Nice Try, McPeters.

First: anyone who can't see that "Kent Allard" was praising Tommy Watkins -- "A good man can only tolerate misdeeds for so long" -- needs to start reading for comprehension, rather than speed.

Second: yes, as anyone who knows how to use Google could have figured out, "Kent Allard" is posting under a pseudonym which comes from the old "Shadow" radio series.

But... I am NOT "Kent Allard," nor did I do anything to "train" him. In truth, "Kent Allard" is simply someone who reads this blog, and who responded to my appeal (made three months ago) for someone to share the burden of running this blog. After "Mr. Allard" contacted me with his offer to help, and persuaded me that he was sincere, I gave him the authority to post new threads without my input. Somewhat to my surprise, "Kent Allard" began posting under a pseudonymn. I was not pleased with this, but, given the fact that he was being blatantly obvious about it -- using the name of the Shadow's alter-ego -- I figured it wouldn't hurt anything. Plus, "Allard" explained that his wife very much didn't want his name splashed all over the blog, and thereby offered a real justification for the anonymity. And so far, it seems to be working out okay.

Rest assured that I do not, and never will, use "sock puppets" to advance my "agenda." I am quite fearless about expressing my own opinion, under my own name. That's always been the case with me, but, now that my mother is gone -- and I don't have to worry about, for example, her getting hateful and harassing phone calls in the middle of the night -- the gloves are truly off.

Unfortunately, my time is very limited, as I am working on several different ways to generate an income stream ASAP. And, even if I had all the money I could ever use, the fact is that I'm just not interested in discussing "people and personalities." I like to argue about big issues -- zoning, the legitimacy of the income tax, the evils of government edukashin -- and not peddle gossip about penny-ante local politicians.

So why did I start this blog? That's simple. A fellow by the nym "Penny Thoughts" had a blog which gave Giles Countians the first free speech we'd ever known. And then he was shut down by one of the local penny-ante politicos, or someone who aspired to the office of penny-ante politico. Either way, I was enraged to see that happen to "Penny," and I started this blog, mainly, to see to it that the slimy and litigious politico wouldn't "get away" with taking away the free speech of long suffering Giles County citizens.

I realize there are people who use this blog to trade gossip. And, while my preference is that people stick to discussing real issues, the fact of the matter is, if you give people the ability to speak their minds anonymously, a good number will post gossip, because that's pretty much all that's on their minds. While this is regrettable, it would be much, much more regrettable to take away everyone's right to speak freely (so long as they obey the modest house rules) because of the acts of a few gossips. I do not plan to throw out the baby to get rid of the bathwater... no matter how much "gossip" is posted here.

Finally, I'd like to make a special offer to those of you who are on the receiving end of Tee Jackson and his educrats' idiocy. Why not blow the whistle on Tee... with guaranteed absolute anonymity? If you are a local teacher and are interested in being a whistleblower, then get yourself a free "throwaway" email address (I suggest Hotmail, as Google/Blogger is an arch rival of Microsoft/Hotmail, and the two companies are unlikely to share data, which means that your "secret identity" would STAY secret) .... and then, email me -- mcpeters@usit.net -- from that email adress, and ask to be made a whistleblower. If you do, I'll give you the right to start new threads anonymously, just like the esteemed "Kent Allard."

As the old saying goes, "the more, the merrier." I lack both the time and interest to keep this blog exciting, but, perhaps with a few anonymous contributors, we can start making a difference in this fine county. Let's try it and see!

I too am sorry to see Mr. Watkins leave the council. I have always found him to be honest, open and a friend. We may not have agreed on every issue but I never had to question his motives, they were always what he thought was best for the city and county. Allen Barrett

We're not saying that what "Mr. Allard" said about Mr. Watkins was negative. It was all of the negativity regarding everyone else in this town who supposedly are always up to no good. Because seriously, what shenanigans?

Some of you are blind as a bat. You say Mr. Watkins is a honest person. How can you be a honest person & run a pawn shop. He takes from a person down on their luck & sells for a big profit. He stated the only reason he ran for alderman was to help the Mayor get his projects carried out. He is just a puppet to the mayor. He does what he is told.

Are saying only dishonest people run pawn shops? It's a legit business, not for the purpose of taking advantage. I've taken household goods I no longer wanted to one for a little "mad" money and I've purchased items from one as well and gotten unbelievable bargains. Be careful about being judgemental, it's the standard by which you will be judged. Are grocery store cashiers that sell beer drug dealers because an alcoholic may decide to jump off the wagon? It's time to take personal responsibility for one's behavior...the lottery is not a poor person's tax, gun ownership by law abiding citizens is a constitutional right, and it's not the educator's responsibility to monitor YOUR child's snacks or BMI, as state law now mandates....
If pawn shop owners are taking advantage of poor people, you might just as well say that doctors are taking advantage of sick people...."judge not"

I'm not saying all pawn shop owners take advantage of poor people, but I know for a fact that HE has taken advantage of them and then lied to them. I'm not being judgemental I'm just stating the facts.

You said, " How can you be an honest person and run a pawn shop."
Maybe that's not what you meant, but it's what you said. I guess we are all guilty of not thinking things through before "saying" them. I believe it is important to point out, however, that the pawn shop business, like the lottery, tobacco, and alcohol...people do have a choice about patronizing such businesses. If you don't like his prices or business practices, you are free to shop elsewhere. It's not like utility businesses that leave you with no choice or competition. (Oh, and by the way, for the record, I have never met Mr. Watkins, or patronized his store)

Perception is reality, and the perception is that pawn shop owners take advantage of people who can least afford to be taken advantage of.

Why is it that someone always has something negative to say about others? Mr. Watkins is a good and decent man, but he must be "stoned" for making a decision to resign. These people are ready to pounce on anything and everything and don't seem to care who gets hurt in the process. Now, that is what I call shameful! Instead of supposing the worst and looking always for something negative, why can't we all simply mind our own business?

Apparently, you don't know Mr. Watkins as I do. Why is it any of your business why he chose to resign anyhow? Oh, I'm sure you would say it's because of something very sinister and evil, right? Well, you are absolutely wrong, and I would think he and his family would appreciate it very much if you would refrain from trying to attack his character. That was a cheap shot.

By the way, Mr. Watkins is not an indentured servant to the county. Would you agree with that?

It just seems to me that people could find something more productive to do than to run around town with their hair on fire trying to ruin people they either dislike or resent!

Mayor was needing another yes vote. He has Paysinger for sure and most of the time Jenkins and Gentrey. Myles and Harwell don't go along all the time. So who better to be a yes vote than Mayors neighbor and friend Hatfield. Looks like he was the only one nominated which I figure means the mayor had the votes he needed to put him in.

You assume an awful lot about Mr. Hatfield. Just because he doesn't see things the way you do means that he is a "yes" person for the mayor? Do you honestly believe that, or have you forgotten that man is allowed under the umbrealla of freedom to think and believe as he chooses?
