There seems to have been an ongoing problem at Southside concerning the possibility that some unknown person was smoking in the school in direct violation with state and school policy.
Now what started out as a simple matter of smelling smoke has grown into a war of words, lies, cyber-bulling, secret personnel files, and an attack against the person who first mentioned the smell of smoke.
It seems as with many other things in Giles County and especially in the school system undesirable information, like smoke is simply ignored until it becomes a huge fire.
A number of E-mails reveals that the principal tried to deal with the situation in an appropriate, simple and easy manner. The problem grew, I believe, with the overly paranoid response by the director of the Leaps and Bounds program.
Soon the problem moved up the chain to the Director of Schools office. How did the director deal with this situation? As I posted on another thread he reported to the School Board that the matter had been investigated and resolved, but can a matter be thoroughly investigated when not all the participants have been interviewed? Can a matter be resolved when the participants are still experiencing harassment, bullying, having separate personnel files kept on them, and being frustrated from appealing to a School Board that still lacks the resolve to actually direct the director?

I have attached a letter from the School Director revealing how he has chosen to deal with this situation. Notice the threatening tone and the untruth that the matter has been closed by the School Board. Keep in mind this is a letter to the person who has only asked that school policy be followed and that she be treated fairly instead of with disrespect by allowing unsubstantiated statements to those in authority to go unchallenged and to eliminate all secret files about her. So far, it seems, all negativity from authorities has been directed toward the person who first spoke out about the smell of smoke in the school and none has involved the teacher who is at the center of the violations and sender of slanderous e-mails. The less the director does to resolve this situation the more the NEW Board can say he isn't doing his job. Board members are very much aware that he is adding fuel to the flame and enough fuel should eventually smoke him out!!!!

While I would agree with you that, as a taxpayer, the functioning of our schools is my business, I do not feel that an internal problem that is being handled within the school system is my business. I just don't understand why you feel such need to make this a huge issue and cause more frustration and distrust among Giles Countians.
If a teacher or some other employee is guilty of violating policy, it is an internal problem that needs to be handled within those parameters.
I work for the schools and very much appreciate Mr Barretts input. There is so much garbage going on and we are fearful; you see what happens when one speaks out, threats, intimidation, lies, slander. If you are a tax payer, it is very much your business, the emails are public information. The 4:45 poster may live in a perfect world, but the reality is that everything in the schools is NOT positive, and the director is accountable or should be accountable for his actions to every taxpayer, and by the way, most school employees I know are also tax payers, so I do hope it's true that the elected board is truly going to handle this situation fairly. Elections do come around fairly quickly. Word to the wise out there...if you smell smoke in a school bldg, make sure you clear it with Ms polly before reporting it. She might become offended and get the director to threaten you also.

WAKE UP! The School Board Policy is public info. READ IT! Especially, about emailing over the school computers! You must be the ONE or TWO Board members who still thinks Jackson is fooling everyone saying it is an "internal problem". Let me EDUCATE YOU! The School Board is elected by tax payers (you and me and MANY MORE Giles County citizens) the School Board is RESPONSIBLE for the Director's actions. HE IS THEIR ONLY EMPLOYEE! If he messes up, it falls on the School Board. School Board Policy AND State Law has been broken!! Let me know who you are and I WILL SHOW YOU THE PROOF! Soooooooooooooooo, the citizens of Giles County could be in for a law suit. How????? Finally, the teacher who smelled smoke and has been threatened, harassed and bullied by the Director and a few others is GREATFUL for the help and positive postings. It's sad that you can't see that when a person, any person but especially a classroom teacher is being harassed, threatened, and intimidated in direct violation of written school policy the whole community suffers.
I challenge your thoughts that I am causing "more frustration and distrust among Giles Countians".
I believe the frustration and distrust is more a result of some in powerful positions not responding appropriately to those who are less powerful. When those in charge allow and even become compliant in the abuse of a teacher because she had the audacity to informally question what she suspected was a violation of school policy then the problem is no longer simply an internal matter. Most agree that it is a shame that teachers are being treated with such little respect by both students and parents but when the administration treats them with even less respect then it's past time for major changes. Morale among classroom teachers is already at rock bottom, I spoke of this two years ago in a commission meeting, and things are only getting worse. Do you think students get a higher quality education from teachers who are fearful of their every move and suffer from low morale or from
teachers who are highly motivated and feel confident in their leadership?
I have spoken to a number of classroom teachers who have expressed their fear of being transferred to a distant school if they don't keep quiet and toe the line.

But what do you do when the one who reports the violation is then made the focus of abuse, lies and intimidation? If this matter would have been handled in Sept. in a mature and appropriate manner this would never have become an issue. Instead the reluctance and untruthfulness of the school director has dragged this into Dec. and instead of things being resolved they have become even more inflamed with teachers and their husbands attacking and intimidating other teachers and their husbands.
What could have been settled in an informal few hours will now, I fear, require many more hours and official written reprimands.

In what schools do the teachers fear transfer to another distant school? Is every teacher in the system suffering from low morale? Do all teachers feel their leaders are incompetent? I am full of questions about how the teachers feel. I have not heard all these negative vibes.

If they are afraid of being moved to another school, do you really think they want their name told so they will be moved?
There is a simple solution to this fiasco. I propose giving polygraph tests to the parties involved. With one key question, "Was this alleged incident concocted due to a lingering, festering, resentment of the the leaps director,and if the answer is yes as I suspect then not only is Jackson, the Board and , Ms. Polly due apologies, we do have a problem with the accuser and action should be taken. Also all the outside know it all watchdogs should apology, if Ms Weisseris indeed wrong. WWJD???????

Mrs. Weisser is NOT wrong and HAS the documentation to PROVE that the Director of Leaps and Bounds has made statements over the school computer that are BOTH in violation of School Board Policy and State Law. Anyone that would like to contact Mrs. Weisser for the WRITTEN PROOF may call her at 468-2521. She will GLADLY give them a copy of HER WRITTEN DOCUMENTATION and THE EMAILS THE DIRECTOR OF LEAPS AND BOUNDS SENT TO THE PRINCIPAL AT SOUTHSIDE AND THE DIRECTOR OF SCHOOLS. Oh, forgot to mention, Mrs. Weisser also has a TAPE, THE ONLY TAPE of the meeting between Jackson, Swinford, the Director of Leaps and Bounds, Mrs. Weisser and her husband(the Director of Schools asked the Director of Leaps and Bounds if she wanted to tape the meeting and she said, "Na". Mrs. Weisser will BE GLAD TO SHARE THE TAPE with any intersted party to let the truth be heard. Like Jackson wanting both 'waring' parties to 'smoke the peace pipe' and 'like waring Indian tribes, band together to fight the white man.' Another suggestion by Jackson was 'if the Director of Leaps and Bounds wanted to burn popcorn anytime she pleased, she could take the microwave outside the building on a long cord and burn it outside." To which the Director of Leaps and Bounds laughed! (Is that a fire code violation??) DON'T NEED A POLYGRAPH FOR THAT - HAVE A VERY GOOD TAPE! THIS WILL SAVE THE TAX PAYERS THE MONEY SPENT ON POLYGRAPHING. Which, I believe, are not useful in court.

In the year of '95, Mrs. Vivian Sims hired me to be the School Counselor at Southside. I served on the Giles County Tourism Board for three years (one year as Chairperson), I supervised the Summer Food Program at First Baptist Church, Pulaski, for two summers as a servant to the Lord taking no monies for me, I was a member of Giles County Leadership a couple of years back, as a representative for the Giles County schools, I have be elected, by the teachers at Southside, in the years 2002 and 2005 as the Southside 'Distinguished Teacher of the Year'. I am ready to tell the FULL story to ANYONE who will listen.

Is smoking still going on in the school?
Why would other teachers be so against the one that told of smelling smoke? Maybe more than one smoking.

Being a parent of three children who have come thru Southside......I appreciate everything you do at school and for the children.......You are correct in saying you are a honest woman and I fully support you.....I would love to tell you who I am but you know as well as I do if a parent speaks out.......their children pay for it. I had direct dealings with Mrs. Polly while 2 of my kids were at Southside and I know for certain she......how shall I say it.....doesnt tell the truth if she is going to get in trouble.........So...stand your ground Mrs. Weisser......I saw on the news last night in one of the northern counties of TN a school superintedent was fired yesterday by their school board......It gave me hope that maybe our school board will wake up and get rid of ours.!!!! Ms. Weisser are you saying tapes of conversations exist? Did you tell those being taped that you were indeed taping them? If not I hope your attorney has informed you, if that is the case: that in itself is not only illegal but not admissable in any court of law. You must tell people when you record even routine calls to your home.Unless there is an agenda or ulterior motive behind covert actions,such as using a hidden recorder?? As i said earlier, if there is no agenda, I suggest Ms. Polly and You take a polygraph as to whether she was smoking or not. It is an investigative tool and quite accurate these days.After all aren't we all just trying to get to the truth?Slander and libel is a two-way street......WWJD, he would be open and fair.. And by the way in regard to the e-mails, I hope they were not obtained like the 'tapes': being in possession of private e-mails, unless you have prior signed authorization, is also illegal and grounds for termination at some companies, be careful what you admit..The bottom line is some teachers and staff smoke in smoking areas on campus and as long as they stay in those areas more power to them. If they don't and are in proven violation then action must be taken.
From what I can tell by reading the contents of this thread, smoking has nothing to do with line of thought. Somebody is ticked off and/or just plain paranoid. You people are nuts or lonely or whimps just looking for something, no anything, to whine about! Get a life!

Taping of a conservsation between one and someone else is NOT illegal in the state of Tennessee and you DO NOT have to give notice of the recording of the conservsation....Just for your info.
If you think it's not illegal in tenn read Tenn. Code Anno. Code 39-13-601..spells out undisclosed taping of conversations..Tenn Ann. Code(s)39-13-602..40-35-111 spells out punishment2-12 yrs a felony $5,000 fine Law reads..A person who is a party to a wire, oral, or electronic communication, or who has obtained the consent of at least one party, can lawfully record a communication and divulge the contents of the recorded communication unless he has a criminal or tortious purpose for doing so. Violations are punishable as felonies with jail sentences of between two and 12 years and fines not exceeding $5,00o. READ and Understand..if you are taping with an agenda as was the case in the Southside incident you have no protection! You think Jackson or Polly signed a consent?? All these know it alls!!
607 sounds like another dufuss - yes you can record in TN in the circumstances noted - recording a public meeting or meeting of public officals - or wrongful act of another recorded to protect yourself.
People, you are very much OVERCOMPLICATING this issue! It is so simple, as has been stated more than once. Mrs. Weisser reported the smell of smoke,PERIOD, no accusations, no name calling. I assume that is the proper thing to do. Mrs Swinford wrote a very professional letter to polly asking her to make sure her employees were not smoking, PERIOD,again, no names mentioned, no accusations. Polly is "supposed" to be in bldg after hours and is a "director" so it was a logical PROFESSIONAL request. Are you folks following this??? no accusations, no names from either Mrs Weisser or principal, all is very civil and professional so far...but polly exploded at Mrs Swinford's request, literally and the email accusations she made were fabrications, fantasy, paranoid, childish, and revealed a disturbing amount of resentment and this was on PUBLIC email, which is a DIRECT VIOLATION of board policy. Are ya'll still keeping up? Remember up until this point, the only accusations and name calling have been done by polly. Now it gets more interesting.Polly not only accused Mrs Weisser of all kinds of untruthful slanderous things, but she named two other teachers...again polly made the accusations, and suddenly two other teachers are in the middle of something that should never have happened. This should have stopped at principals letter to polly, why she reacted so violently is anybody's guess. But here's the kicker, for some reason, Mrs Weisser was offended by polly's wild, ridiculous accusations, (go figure...)but when she came forward, to point out the UNLAWFULLNESS of lying about people in print, (public emails) which by the way, according to Tee Jackson's staff, is equivalent to being on front page of paper, and I believe is the exact definition of libel, at that point Mrs Weisser began to be inundated with letters, job interruptions, unprofessional treatment, discrimination, and finally threats of job loss...all because she reported the smell of smoke through the proper channels. So now everybody is saying Mrs Weisser is blowing this matter out of proportion....how screwy and frankly biased is that??? Mr. Jackson claims to have made a FULL investigation and questioned several people about the situation. But here's another twist to his FULL investigation...he did not ever, not one time approach the other two teachers and question them. That's a fact people, so basically he went to Southside and GOSSIPED with co-workers of these teachers. My goodness, even criminals are questioned about an incident they may have knowledge of. That's how much respect Jackson has for those teachers OR that's how much control polly has. He declared polly's wild accusations to be true and closed the case. Please, keep up and remember the other two teachers were slandered BY NAME! So here are a few disturbing "loose" ends. First, why on earth would polly react so violently to a perfectly logical, professional request? Next, why did the principal not reprimand her for BREAKING BOTH BOARD POLICY AND THE LAW by lying about the teachers on email( think...FRONT PAGE of PAPER)? Third, even though the teachers were lied about, slandered and libeled, one would think that a person in the director's "position" would be intelligent enough to "go through the motions" and at least question the others named. At least he could "SAY" I've talked with them and still think polly can do no wrong. It might have looked like a judgement call then. But he exhibited so little disregard for their feelings,reputations, and character, he chose to gossip with others who were not mentioned and by his actions told them how insignificant they were. So to sum up, Mrs Weisser reported smoke smell, and went thru channels to report it. Polly didn't like it, for reasons of her own, and made wild crazy untruthful accusations about Mrs Weisser and others. So while it may look like Mrs Weisser is the one blowing it out of proportion, please remember she is only defending herself against lies. Yes, she could let it go... another incident similar was "let go" over two years ago but unless the "director" handles it NOW, without bias, then basically he is telling all teachers to "never defend yourself against polly's irrational and unpredictable attacks, you will not win." So ask yourself, who blew this situation up, Mrs Weisser for reporting smoke smell thru proper channels or Mrs Polly who for whatever reason began babbling wild accusations about three teachers even though Mrs Polly had not been accused of anything? Is polly the only party in the school system allowed to speak up and if someone else gets hurt, that's too bad? Now you may wonder who I am that knows all this...well I could be any of a number of people: maybe I'm one of the co-workers questioned; maybe I'm one of the accused teachers; maybe I'm an honorable board member who wants this thing not to "go away" but rather be fixed; maybe I'm one that works closely with polly and I am worried about the dramatic change in her personality; maybe I'm just a taxpaying citizen who believes that slander and libel should not be condoned much less encouraged, that intimidation for defending one's character is wrong; maybe I'm a teacher at Southside who is heartbroken over the negative reputation of his or her school; maybe I'm an assistant who cannot get tenure and therefore has NO job security; but who I am not, is a courageous person who is brave enough to put my name on here, at least not yet. If for no other reason, I applaud Mrs Weisser especiallly but all the people who are not afraid to speak their minds for what is right rather than what is convenient. I have no authority, but if I did, I hope that I would take a stand against unethical, unprofessional conduct. I hope I would not let one person ruin the reputation and morale of an entire staff and I hope that if I wouldn't be ethical enough to truly investigate an issue, I hope I wouldn't blatantly lie and cause others to feel useless, invisible, incompetant and guilty of wild irrational behaviors when there was ZERO PROOF.
I do hope and pray that the GCBOE will finally show some backbone and courage and investigate and FIX this situation, soon.
A couple of more things and then I'm done...to the smart aleck regarding the recording, of course Mrs. Weisser let them know she was recording it, Mr Jackson offered polly a recorder....and whoever said polly and jackson deserved an apology, from who and for what? Mrs Weisser should apologize for defending herself???apologize for reporting the smell of smoke??What kind of apology do they deserve for creating the situation in the first place???Please explain that.

To Miss Long Winded, maybe the GCBOE should drug test some folks at Southside if their behaviors are that bizarre as you state, looking for illegal and prescription meds too.You may be anon to some but not TOO ALL??? FACT: The tape recorder WAS placed on Mrs. Swinford's desk in PLAIN view of EVERYONE. It is recorded ON THE TAPE that I was going to tape the meeting. IT IS RECORDED ON THE TAPE THAT JACKSON ASKED POLLY IF SHE WANTED TO TAPE THE MEETING AND AS SAID BEFORE, SHE SAID 'NA!' Which in the South, I take for no. The tape is MINE by LAW and I MAY do as I WISH with it. So are all the letters sent to me. The emails that Polly has stated as 'true' were given to me with CONSENT from Polly, Swinford and Jackson. Must have major issues that stem from some type of imaginary issues. I best advise to anyone who may be suffering from such conditions would be professional counseling. The sooner the better.

Yes, I worked for Leaps the first year. As YOU well recall - thinking you must have been the Director of Leaps that year - PLEASE correct me if I am wrong - I VOLUNTEERED my time to work with the students painting pumpkins. Then I seem to remember giving the new program a $150 personal check to help with needs. I did actually work for pay later that year in the Leaps Program. As, teachers in Giles County are underpaid and ALWAYS looking for a second job! However, it DID NOT take me long to realize the Director of the Program - Sherry Polly - had serious management issues or shall I say lack of management issues. I remember a trip to Nashville, my husband went as a volunteer, on the school bus to see a hockey game...not a good experience. I remember a trip to Nashville to Opryland ICE, Sherry and drove me back to Pulaski early, as arranged earlier with her because I could not stay the entire day. I wonder if Sherry Polly remembers the conversation she had with me on the way home?? Very enlightening. I remember being told I would NOT have to work during the summer to make my hours for the hours I AGREED to work. Guess what - I HAD to work in the summer with the Police Youth Camp. I remember Sherry Polly having little or no control of the student workers, who were paid with State money (her daughter being one of the paid workers and still is), during the time I was employeed with Leaps. As I recall, the student workers would not do as they were instructed, gathered together to talk to each other and talk on their cell phones. For these reasons and others, I CHOOSE TO QUIT A PROGRAM THAT I HAD LITTLE OR NO RESPECT FOR. THE SHAME IS HOW THIS PROGRAM COULD REALLY HELP THE CHILDREN OF GILES COUNTY AND HOW SOME PEOPLE JUST DON'T CARE AS LONG AS THEY ARE MAKING BIG $$$$$
Show me the FACTS girlfriend and I will answer EVERY question you have and more. This seems to be a MAJOR problem, YOU HAVE NO FACTS AND NEVER HAVE! Mrs. Leaps and Bounds, maybe the State should conduct a survey of the Leaps Program by the teachers and staff at Southside. It might be a good idea to include parents who are concerned that their children were charged $40 do attend Leaps and the grant was for $162,000, of which the Leaps Director stated in an earlier thread that she made $70,ooo in a past year. Word on the street says she is making $87,000, more than HALF of the grant. If this is true, one must wonder if the Director of Leaps has the best interest of the children of Giles County in her heart or the desire for $$$???

I have read this stuff and find it dificult to understand the stuff polly is doing . I have kids in the system and have seen and herd alot. I think polly is unstable cause her ex-boyfirend is geting married. She must be hurt and frustrated cause he used her as a toy and then decided to marry up. Must be causing alot of heartache.

I am certain that morale is bad when teacher aides can smart off to professional educators and treat them with open contempt.
I know the frustration of working with those who would stab you in the back and run tattling to the principal about practically anything they perceive as "unprofessional". Perhaps they think this scores points for them or makes them to look intelligent. These people, including workplace bullies, must be avoided like the plague.

I would say Mr. Barrett is a concerned citizen who has tried to make Giles County a better place to educate and raise children. But like others before and now after him, some in 'power' just want Giles County to be the 'slum' county of TN. Sad for the children and the future of Giles County. But that is not my point, I defended her and gave her good advice, and I will do the same here with you. Yes, I would agree that wab is a "concerned" citizen, but he goes just a bit over the top when he starts calling names and talking down to people as if they have no sense at all. That's arrogance, and being a concerned citizen gives nobody the right to behave in such a manner. I have known Sherry Polly for about 30 years and if you don't know her and how she was raised then that's where YOUR problem lies!! Its not her that has the attitude problem, its you who has the perception problem!
She has worked very hard to get where she is and nothing can or will stand in her way... her daddy instilled that in her from birth!! She had to get up a 3am every day of her life and go to work on their farm. He didn't take any excuses either..when he said get up .. you got up!! That is why she is so passionate about her job and doing what is right. My question is why is Mrs. Polly the only one who got a letter from Mrs. Swinford? I'm sure there are other people in and around where ever the "smoke" smell was!
I was not there and I do not know what anyone smelled but I do know this; most everyone has an olfactory nerve (if you can smell; then you do) which is the first of 12 cranial nerves. Its just a thin fiber that has a lot of power over your mind and thought pattern. It can bring back memories from childhood, it can make you physically sick, just thinking of how something smells, without it even being there. (Please correct me if I am wrong!!!)
Some of the most memorable smells are the ones that bring pleasure, such as coffee and the ones that bring fear, such as smoke. With that being said, did anyone SEE smoke?? Are there not smoke detectors in the school?? Why didn't somebody call the fire department over to check it out?? If I smelled smoke in a SCHOOL, I would for sure have done more than bring it to Mrs. Swinford's attention!!

To Christie Fralix. You seem to have missed the point entirely. The problem is not merely one of smoking in the building, that was a question that was presented not as an accusation but simply as a question. The principal addressed the issue in a very professional manner by asking the director to ensure no one violated the smoking policy during the evening hours.
That should have been the end of the matter but Ms. Polly began to write and send out inappropriate e-mails, that, and the way it was handled is the problem. It simply takes a few minutes of objective examination of the evidence to understand this whole matter has been botched from the first e-mail to it's appearance before the school board.

I appreciate the fact that you have great respect for Sherry Polly. At one time, while she was a teacher at Southside, I also respected her. Then as time went on my opinion changed. As for her hard life, everyone has a story to tell. My own father dropped dead one night when I was 8 yrs. old. Leaving my mother, who was a housewife at that time with three small children. My step-father, who has been my step-father since I was ll yrs., died of cancer about 7 yrs ago. My first husband died in '92. Before he died, one of his grown son's died of cancer. When I was 26 yrs old, I spent 45 days in St. Thomas Hospital very ill. I gather my strength from Jeremiah 29:11.
If you give me a call 468-2521 or send me your address, I will send you all of the written information and emails. You only have one side of the story, Sherry's. That has been my objection from the beginning of this situation, fair treatment.
As a paramedic you should realize that cigarette smoke will not set off the school fire alarm system. Also, you should know that the STRONG smell of cigarette smoke is EASY to detect by the human nose in a small space like my office. Let me invite you to visit Southside and view my inner office space for yourself.
As to your remark, "So, ofcourse when you start messing with someone's livelyhood and their purpose for being on earth it is going to upset them." WELL STATED! What do you think the UNPROVEN threats of harassment and bullying, Sherry made against me and two other teachers at Southside, were if not "messing with someone's livelyhood and purpose for being on earth"????? Not only that, I must mention personal and professional character. I was raised to believe my good name is VERY important! I was also raised to believe honor and truthfulness are respected and desired qualities. This is what my family instilled in me. When these have been challanged, AS THEY HAVE, it was instilled in me to correct the situation at all costs.
If you work and pay taxes, you should be interested in how the school system is spending your money - as is Mr. Barrett.

As usual, you miss the point. Just because someone has the "facts" on someone does NOT give them the right to go to a public forum and broadcast it. For example, if I had the "facts" that someone's husband is carrying on an illicit affair, should I get on this blog and announce it? I hope you would see the wrongness in that. Actually, it would be none of my business or yours. And just look at the harm that can be done by someone's saying all those bad things about Sherry Polly. Why is this so hard for people to understand? Why can't people stick to the topic? It's not and never has been about smoking in the bldg...FOCUS..It was the smoke ODOR that was reported, and nobody accused anybody of smoking or allowing smoking...Mrs. Weisser, Mrs. Polly, is that the gist of it??? If not, I need to stop now, but that's what I understand from deciphering this gibberish on here. A request was made from one supervisor to another in a professional way, am I still on track??? (And to the poster who asked if Mrs Polly was the only one who got a letter, well the supervisor who wrote the letters would be the ONLY one who could answer that) I don't know of another supervisor in the bldg after hrs on a reg basis. From what I can figure out, nobody has accused anybody of smoking in Southside. If the emails exist and do contain what is alleged, everybody gets that Mrs. Polly hates these other teachers including Mrs. Weisser, BUT, the alleged messages have NOTHING to do with reporting the smell of stale smoke, agree or disagree? Point 5. The emails are false or non-existent and Mrs. Weisser is stirring things up, agree or disagree 6. The emails are true and do exist and Mrs. Polly said some pretty rough things in them which breaks state law, board policy, and has nothing to do with the report of stale smoke odor,and Mrs. Polly doesn't think Mrs. Weisser or other teachers should defend their honor? agree or disagree? 7. If Mr Jackson "investigated" the situations, he had no obligation to discuss it with all of the teachers who were allegedly named in the alleged emails, agree or disagree? Point 8.If Mr Jackson "investigated" the situation, then he had a duty and obligation to talk with the teacher's who were allegedly talked about in the alleged messages and not doing so was clearly discriminatory toward the teachers allegedly mentioned in the alleged messages, agree or disagree?
There are eight points listed here which lay out the situation clearly and presenting BOTH side's points of view. I will be more than happy to keep a tally if people will respond to those points and those points only by numbering your repsonses and putting either an "a" or a "d" beside the corresponding #. Even those that are biased for either side ought to be able to answer each question honestly on an anonymous blog. If people really want to fix this embarrassing drama, then here's your chance. Personally, I "don't have a dog in this fight," except that I am shocked and embarrassed by the ridiculous things being put on here. I will consider your youth and your high emotional state with regard to your disrespectful email to me. However, I am surprised your parents would allow you to broadcast such hate being reared in such a respectful family. Please get your facts straight when you speak of my professional career or my church life. I spent 15 years in a regular classroom in Marshall County. To my knowledge, your immediate family has not attended Elkton Baptist Church, on a regualr basis, for several years. Maybe that is why you do not know of several major changes the church has undergone in the past five years. In the past five years there have been at least three preachers and up until lately the membership almost dropped to zero. However, God's hand touched Elkton Baptist Church and it is again doing the Lord's work. Let me assure you Anna, I feel comfortable with my church family. However, I do not go to church to be the most popular person in the congergation. Rather to try to learn of the Lord's words and ask God to help me keep my focus as a Christian. Many humans have a struggle in this area on a daily basis.
As for anonymous 7:15, it is the Board of Education's place to settle this disbute. It was never my intention to let the public be the judge and jury. However, it was my intention to make the public aware that two other teachers and myself were and are not receiving fair treatment from the Director of Schools.

I think that instead of slinging mud we should stick to the facts. The whole situation has gotten way out of control. I think the solution is simple, call in a mediator who has nothing to do with Giles County and have them sit down with each other face to face. I don't think these people have to like each other but they are co-workers and the school is bound to be affected by all these hostile feelings. This would be the simplest solution. If Jackson is not willing to do this can the principal or GCEA not instigate this? We need peace at the school and in this county. May God bless everyone all at this "Christ"mas season.

Honestly , so many of you people inserting your two cents and are AFRAID of stating your name just PROVES the point that intimidation tactics WORK. It seems that is what this county is about. Scaring ppl into submission so that they will accept sub par service, education, MORALS, etc. People in this county seem to be BRAIN DEAD to the fact that special interests ABOUND in everything in our county. There are so many little circles of people that go against each other it is ridiculous. People quoting the law? HARDIHARHAR! Get off your high horse, step back and take a look. Open your eyes. Talk to people around the town. Legality here DOESN'T MEAN A THING. 90% of this town is corrupted,from law enforcement, to the school system, to the businesses. Most of the most "prominent" ppl in our community are behind some sort of scandal. For those of you who DON'T know me, I did attend the Giles county school system up until this year, upon which I withdrew to start home school for various reasons. For you lug heads who do not understand, SMOKING is not the main issues im addressing, and not the main issues several of these posters have addressed. Its the fact that OUR SCHOOL SYSTEM, the one that YOU let YOUR kids be educated by is SO corrupted, so undermining,that all this has to happen. These are the ppl educating your kids, the ones who are in charge of your kids behavior while you are away. Imho, teachers are supposed to teach us not only textbook learning but proper conduct and morals, just as much as the parents are responsible. Heck, ANY elder to a child should try to teach them correctly. Well, I think we now know what Pulaski is the way it is don't we? The same ppl are teaching their children to think this conduct is OKAY when its not. Close minded thinking is being passed down, intolerance is being passed down, Everything. A sense of self preservation is this main towns focus. This issue is only the tip of the Iceburg, ladies and gentlemen, and those of you wanting to "simplify it" are the same ones who are encouraging ignorance in the goings on of our community. The ones of us who are "nosy"? If we didn't stand up against things we believe in, then I would HATE TO THINK where in the hell this town would be. Actually I just answered me myself. HELL. Teacher inadequacy, SCHOOL SYSTEM POLICY IGNORANCE, INTOLERANCE, and quite frankly the overall attitude of practically everyone involved. I have had MANY MANY firsthand experiences with the UTTER FAILURE of our love School system. Some teacher/principals are more despicable then you may think. One teacher at GCHS happens to repeatedly make rude comments to her students ABOUT other students not currently present in the class, to the point of even threatening them at times. Highly unprofessional. A new teacher is being treated EXTREMELY unfairly, due to "culture differences". I for one, looked forward to her class EVERY DAY because it was one of the few I felt i actually got an education in. The Upper faculty at GCHS is some of the rudest, most close minded, intolerant ppl I have ever come across. I know for a FACT that there is PLENTY of special treatment in that school becuase I have been victim to it MANY times. It seems if you last name is known in the community then you are free to do what you wish. Dare I mention the richland ball field scandal? I find it funny that reprimand for that was of a lesser degree that was issued to the ppl that initiated a harmless food fight (which wasn't all that bad) as a senior prank. Being arrested for a food fight? Yet, only getting ISS for destroying public property, and even being let out to take a test? The correlation is a farmer going to the corn crib in the middle of the winter to find little more than corn cobs and rat droppings.

Smoke if you want, I don't need it & don't care. When it comes to a smoky old camp fire or old wood stove (smoke), don't mess with me on that - I'll fight over it - too many precious memories this messed up politically correct world will never understand. The issue was NEVER about anybody lighting up at school, nobody was ever accused of smoking at school, no names were mentioned, ever. The whole issue is/was that an odor of smoke was reported to be in an office area early in the morning as one teacher arrived. The principal addressed that issue very concisely and professionally, and it offended a different teacher. Why it offended that teacher is anybody's guess, but can only be explained by that teacher alone. Because she was offended, she made the decision to, on public email, attack verbally others, who had NO knowledge of the report of odor in the first place. Please believe that folks, nobody accused anybody of smoking in the building, nobody implied anybody was smoking in the building, nobody insinuated that anybody was smoking in the building, nobody suggested that anybody was smoking in the building. Again, there is only one person who can factually answer the question of WHY one teacher was offended by the report of smoke ODOR, and why she chose to insult, degrade, and fabricate stories about others, and they didn't even know about the report. But let me repeat, lest anyone forget, NOBODY was accused of smoking, a single teacher only reported the ODOR of smoke at approximately 7 a.m. The principal addressed the issue professionally but after the offended teacher began the verbal and written "assaults" for lack of a better term, the Director of Schools and the Principal apparently concluded that the offended teacher's reaction was appropriate and even justified, as they did not even find it necessary to talk with the teachers who were insulted in the PUBLIC email who (again) knew NOTHING about the report of the odor. Not smoking, only smoke odor. Whoever said to keep it in perspective, was correct, the problem is that it seems that only certain employees are required to abide by perspective, others are under no such requirement...It is such a sad, blatant case of discrimination, and the teachers I know are scared, worried, sad, disillusioned, hurt, and absolutely feel ambushed. Remember, smoke odor, no accusation of anybody smoking.

Again, the letter that was sent to you as director of Leaps and Bounds was only one action that was taken to assure that smoke was not entering the building. I spoke to some other people also and removed some items from the third grade patio and the dock area. Since you are responsible for the building and staff after school in the Leaps and Bounds probram, I felt you should know the problem.
At no time did I accuse you and asked that you monitor your staff and use caution in or around the building. When I had report of the smell of smoke, your name was not mentioned.

I also have asked around concerning your email that addressed all the actions you have taken concerning this problem. (Me asking others is totally out of character, but I felt I needed the information) It seems as if no one else received a letter and only one other person was verbally warned. Also, we are not missing any items from the dock or 3rd grade that we have noticed.
As you are aware, I have dealt with this type behavior from Mrs. Weisser and a couple of her friends for the past 3 years. I am sure you have full documentation of all the times I have gone above and beyond what should be expected of any individual to tolerate. I have never asked for any assistance, and I do not remember one time since I was hired in 1995 that I complained to you or any other administrator concerning another individual that I work with. Again, I am asking you to follow up and take appropriate actions. I have placed Tennessee's Policy Statement on Workplace Harassemnt in your mailbox. I know you have the Giles County Board Policy.
The state policy states that immediate notification of harassemnt should be reported. We are currently about 30 hours away from my first report to you, and I feel confident that all proper authorities have been notified. Along with the current incident, I would hope you would remember all incidents with students, parents and community that have been created by this little group and address those too. Let me know if I may aid you in any way. I have complete documentation of encounters with Mrs. _________, Mrs. ___________ and Mrs. Bridgett Weisser if you should need more information."

We are currently about 30 hours away from my first report to you, and I feel confident that all proper authorities have been notified" I am very willing to meet with you and Mrs. Weisser and give any assistance that I can but if you plan to make a formal compliant of harrassment I need to defer to Mr. Jackson. I did phone him tonight and he stated that if needed he could meet with after school tomorrow (He is busy with all the parade activities) or Monday morning.

Look, I'm very familiar with the quote, and I heartily believe in what it says. And YES, there is corruption everywhere. Why is that? Because human beings are fallible creatures who make mistakes. And I do not endorse nor defend evil and corruption as the riddler would imply. In a fair and perfect world, Miss Polly would be correct that one would have to give respect in order to get respect...sadly our world is far from perfect, but do take comfort teachers, if you believe the entirety of GOD's word, we all will reap what we sow, so let me encourage you to take a stand for what is right. As for the poster or posters who say "if you have evidence of wrong doing, turn it over to the authorities for prosecution." Again, because we don't live in a perfect world, there are many instances in professional situations that while they are not technically illegal, they are to anybody with even a basic sense of decency, unethical, discriminatory, vindictive,intimidating, and threatening, to the person on the receiving end of the wrath of the supervisor at their place of employment. But again, let me emphasize that Ms Polly's daughter showed keen insight when she said her quote about have to give respect in order to receive. Very impressive. It is my belief that I have tried to handle 'this' situation professionally from the beginning:
Reported ORDER of smoke, NAMING NO ONE, to building supervisor,- Swinford
Learned of 'negative paper trail' towards me - requested meeting with Jackson, Swinford, Polly and my husband (as witness) - I was recorded the meeting - learned of emails at 'this' meeting on 10/08/08 - requested copies - Jackson, Polly said 'OK' - Swinford said wait until 10/10/08 - received copy of emails 10/10/08 at 2:45pm
Carpool with another teacher, she drove 10/10/08 - I read emails on way home. SHOCKED BY CONTENT - to say the least - called Swinford by cell phone - asked if harassment charges had been filed - Swinford said 'not as she knew as of leaving work today.' - called Jackson by cell - asked if harassment charges filed - he said 'no the Board would have notified me immediately.' - I expressed my EXTREME concern to Jackson as to the emails and their content. I told him I was VERY upset that I had NOT BEEN notified of their SERIOUS content. - I told Jackson the emails shead a NEW light on the 'situation' and I was NOT HAPPY WITH THE OUTCOME. - It seemed to me that Jackson turned on the speaker phone. I questioned him as to if he had someone in the office with him - Jackson said 'no' - I asked about the speaker phone - Jackson said 'just trying to turn up the volume.' I made my excuses and ended the call.
The next several days involved MANY letters, visits, and a few phone calls from Jackson at my place of work. To the point that I could not get my job done. I sent a letter to Jackson and the Board saying Jackson's constant letters, phone calls and visits were hindering me in my job. I so stated that my first responsibility, during working hours, was to be of service to the parents and children at Southside. I requested 'this' matter be delt with after working hours. (As Board Policy so states)
I put together a package of 'information', including the emails, and sent all Board members and Mrs. Debbie Braden, Assistant Director a copy. (I figured Jackson had all the material, so I just sent him the cover letter.)
I notified the Chariperson of the Board of Education that I wanted to be on the November 13th agenda to file a formal 'Employee Complaint Aganist An Employee'.
Jackson did everything he could to STOP me from speaking at that Board meeting - and the one in December.
For those of you who don't know, THIS IS THE PROFESSIONAL WAY IT IS DONE. Teachers are EMPLOYEED by the Board of Education and the BOE meetings ARE PUBLIC. BOE Policy and the TEACHER'S CONTRACT, anyone out there belong to a union, so state that I must speak before the BOE to file said complaint.
Many things have happened since November 13th:
I have been threatened, as to my job and professionalism, by Jackson, people who do not know me have called me names - to which I say, small minds do little things, Anna Polly trashed my personal, professional and religious life on this site - to which some 'praised' her for her actions?, I have been accused of saying things on this site 'anonymously' that I did not say, and 'someone' keeps saying what has been said on this site will be 'taken to court', to which I say - FINALLY! Maybe then the three teachers, at Southside, who have been WRONGFULLY SLANDERED, LIBLED AND THEIR LIBERTY RIGHTS VIOLATED, will receive due process.
Think about this, even a murderer gets more than 2 or 5 minutes for a defense. Why is it that a professional educator, WITH AN EXCELLENT RECORD, is only given 5 minutes and then 2 minutes to try to present a case??

Perspective means many things, especially if a bad person hates you - it's a compliment & everyone knows it! If you were TJ's idol, everyone would know you were corrupt too. Observating interesting realities:
The instinctive intuitional resources of man are indeed enlightening when recompensed.
Anyone who owns animals or even crossed paths with animals knows what those brown piles in the grass are and why you don't step in them. Without saying a nasty word or even the proper & correct words, we know what it is! We know that if you step in it you become a carrier and leave bits of it and its smell everywhere you go. They can't see it, but know it's you. You are it. We also know that we must go through a cleansing operation to rid our self of the object, smell, and reason everyone runs the other way when they see you comming.
The exception is the swine who lives in it, love it, and seek out discriminating companions of like tastes. Of course the swine wishes all brethern to dive in it & join the party. From there all are brothers and keepers of brothers, with the possible exception of sisters who become sisters and keepers of sisters, and so forth.
I'll bet this assessment grabs echo, ghecko and 827 by the ears & forces a nasty assessment & charge of slander against me. The lawyers are licking their chops. Not sure if they're more insulted by association with boss hog or if it's the fact that we won't jump in it with them.

Ask yourself this, if someone called your name but said nothing else what would be your reaction? Now consider that someone calls your name over and over but each time they refuse to say anything else. It seems to me that the same situation is at play in someone calling God's name over and over but never saying anything other than his name. "Oh, Lord" is not a prayer it is more a greeting. A more appropriate statement that would be a prayer in that situation is "Lord Help".
For me it's a matter of prayer being communication not just calling a name to get ones attention.

I always thought the purpose of the blog here was to have educated discussions. The post have all seemed to become a personal vendetta at each other. Please give it a rest and let educated discussions rule.
An educated discussion would deal with facts and standard historical linguistic meanings, by definition. You can't handle either one!

Here's my conclusion. Some people on this blog are truly overwhelmed with hatred and jealousy of certain individuals who hold public offices here in Giles County. How do I know that? I know because I read all the spewings.
Oh, by the way, is it not mudslinging when people get on here and say really injurious things about people, particularly when it can so severely impact innocent family members? I'd like you, in all your wisdom, to answer that for me please. Yes, true or not, making horrific charges toward people you resent not only can hurt those individuals as well as their families.
You talk about educated discussions on this blog. I welcome them. But how can profitable debate be had when you people continue with the smearing, name-calling, and inflammatory remarks? Tell me how that can go forward.
Finally, I learned a long time ago not to "assume" I'm sure you get the real meaning there.
Get real - dump the liar and your problem goes away! If the family is embarassed by the actions of their family lightening rod, they need tell lightening rod to stop or disown lightening rod. As long as as the lies continue, the liar is going to answer for it! If my spouse, parent, or child were out there corrupting government, I'd be on their back first & then disown them if they didn't stop!

You mentioned that "rebuttal" thing on the previous thread. As I've told you, my rebuttals are for the nasty things you say on this blog that impact not only your intended victim but their innocent families as well. I asked you to answer the question as to whether it's acceptable to hurt innocent family members. Please answer that question for me.
You continue to say I hate your mentor and hero but believe his message. What planet have you been living on for the past several months? I thoroughly despise what he and his cohorts (you obviously being one of them) have been doing. And, like I said, I will continue to stand opposed to people who have no qualms whatsoever about the lives they might destroy to achieve their goals. Yes, wab may be right as far as some of his "truths" are concerned. I have never said he was wrong about the things he digs up. But, for example, it's one thing to find out that your neighbor is having an affair, but that doesn't give you license to run around all over town telling everyone you see about it.
