Is It Time For Change At Pulaski Elementary School?
While some may feel it is way past time for some major changes at Pulaski Elementary School for a large number of reasons I would like to present two situations for your consideration and comments.
The School Librarian. What is the situation that keeps parents complaining about this lady but nothing goes into her personnel file except for a reprimand requiring she stay away from another teacher reported to be having an affair with her.
Charges have been made that she has told little children there is no Santa Claus, is very critical of children and their appearance, has posted explicit pictures on the internet and seems to spend less and less time in the Library with students and more and more time with a certain teacher.
The School Principal. Why is it that with more complaints being filed with the school about the Librarian and promises being made to have those complaints included in the personnel file that file still has only one official reprimand? Based on the behavior of the principal at a recent public gathering where he displayed some of the most out of control arrogantly rude behavior seen in recent years, the question arises as to why there has been no official reprimand by the School System for this most embarrassing situation created by this school official?

All I said is what I was told by employees that work with her. I myself being married would not have been hanging out in a single mans classroom or eating lunch with him in my library. I like her as a person and as a library teacher. So why are you so upset. If I were doing these things as I was told she was I would expect for people to be talking about it. I just would not do these things myself. I wouldn't like it if my husband was hanging out in co-workers room and having lunch with her.
You don't spread gossip unless you saw it yourself. It is not good to talk about people whether you like what they do or not. Just because you would not do something, does not mean that something is wrong. Take a deep breath and walk away.
I witnessed the "HANGING OUT" in the classroom. More than one time. So 10:26 was right about that part. It was also last school year not this one. This hasn't happened this year. So 10:39 why are you on a gossip site. That is what thia site has pretty much turned into.
I was always taught that it ain't gossip if it is true.
Sounds like something that should be brought up to the School Board and the Director of Schools. If there is a problem then it is theirs to deal with. The "FACTS" should be examined and then a ruling made. If you don't like the ruling, go over their heads to the state. However, please endure that you are only using facts, not rumors and not innuendo. It would be a pity to cause problems without ensuring all the facts are in play. Bottom line, everyone has the right to have lunch with a friend. Be sure all your ducks are in a row.
While some play in the library others are yelled at in the cafeteria. While the kids do the Hokey Pokey in the gym others are doing the Hanky Panky in the office.
While students must double up to have books teachers volunteer for threesomes on the couch.

You must not been one of the parents at the ball park when Holt showed his a.. on the field in front of the kids, but let me tell you one thing I WAS. My child was on the field and I could go on to tell you more, but I will not. One thing I did not even get a picture of my child's team because of him. So, go ahead and take up for that low life Holt. I think he would be the wrong one to get someone for slander. Think again.

I teach at Pulaski Elementary. We are a group of caring, educated, and dedicated faculty and staff. It is repulsive to continually read such comments. Also, it is evident that someone in our school has a negative attitude and is posting half truths about several people on the faculty. As for the librarian, she and the person in question ate lunch with other members of the faculty. Mr. Miller did the same. Her husband, another family member, and the person in question also recently played in a golf tournament together. Please discuss something other than our schools. We are, despite heaps of extra work thrown our way this year, doing a great job. Oh...and the boy in the "box" has never been in a "box". He needs to be in juvie...you just can't imagine. I recently witnessed his actions.

Are you saying that there is no reprimand of the librarian or that she was told to stay away from the guy or that parents haven't been complaining about things going on there or that the principal has completely embarrassed the whole school system by his behavior at the ball field? I am not saying that at all. I am saying that our school is a great school and can run just fine without the likes of troublemakers like you.

I totally agree with you that a preacher should be totally ashamed of such behavior. And we hear so much about ousters; looks like the same would apply to the clergy. or am I wrong?
Mr. Barrett may be a preacher, but he is allowed to have an opinion just like the rest of us. Everyone is going to have their opinion and it is my choice and yours if we desire to express it. You think it is wrong for him to do this blog. I think it would be wrong for him to have information that would benefit the tax payers and not let them know about it if they won't to know. For example if your child was doing drugs wouldn't you want someone to let you know, so you could help your child. I think Mr. Barrett has brought the truth of what goes on in Giles County to everyones attention even if he had to step on people's toes to do it. Some may call it stirring up trouble, but I call it bringing out the truth.
Some people just don't like anyone to know that other people have caught on to their wrong doings. I make a practice of staying away from gossup that has no legal or proven significant moral basis. If they are doing nothing legally or morally wrong while having lunch, it's no one's business - that is a Constitutional guarantee!
If we are talking about after hours immorality - let's go all the way & clean house - especially with people who openly display immoral acts in their position and openly in public!

Who cares what goes on after school hours unless whoever these people are have families? We as parents should be scared that if something is going on during school hours which our children are seeing could be harmful to the children. I don't know the people, but if it is true I hope that they have more morals for their selves. It may be two friends who sit down and have lunch together. If this topic is correct, then the librarian is not the one who needs to be telling the children that there is no santa claus that is left up to the parents. I know Christmas is not about santa claus, but the kids believe in him and they love santa. I know when I was a child and one of my friends told me that santa was fake then it seemed Christmas wasn't as fun. Kids are only little once.
She doesn't tell the children that. If the topic is brought up she "defends" Santa.

The librarian has shown pictures of herself looking most inappropriate, the lunch goes past lunch time and has been reprimanded for not being in the library for students and teachers to have library on time because she is with her friend, criticises how children looks to their face to the point they hate to go to library time, is late for work, has an unorderly library and many parents have gone in to complain about her with the understanding she would have something placed in her file and only one thing is in her file and that is the explicit picture showing and late for classes. AND THAT'S THE TRUTH!!!!
The Board members are aware and have questioned why she is still their due to the pictures mainly.
Be sure you don't make a statement you can't defend in a court of law.

I know this blog is about PES but I have a question about MHS PLEASE? I know someone who has a child in 5th grade and they had a sub last Thrus. and this was the topic left for the kids 5th grade 10 and 11 year olds to write 10 sentences about: What are 10 good reasons for a girl to break up with a boy or for a boy to break up with girl? Can somebody please explain what this has to do with teaching our children about English class? My child is 10 and this has Nothing to with their class or homework. Sorry, I haven't read the blog in a few days, and I just had a chance to review. Once again you are running down the wrong path. I never said you had to respect my opinion, I said you need to respect people. You cry and whine about the bad things that are said by people and then you start using derogatory names to refer to them. You refer to Mr. Barrett as the "Preacher", but do it with as little respect as possible. I have never met you, and have no clue what kind of person you are, but I am trying not to malign you personally. However your ideas are as intellectually stimulating to most of us as Basic Algebra is to Stephen Hawking. Which brings us back to the school thread. This being a public thread, if someone has something to say, as long as it is not libelous then, let them say it. Now to the real topic of this thread, if there is a problem at Pulaski Elementary School, and the PARENTS realize this, then it is their right and responsibility to address it with the principal and then the School Board as needed. Yo Fred. If nothing is done about there concerns then they need to go to the State and further if needed. However, as some people have said on this blog, make sure you have proof. Not rumor, not hearsay, not innuendo, PROOF. Tapes, pictures, video, whatever. Remember, you are playing with peoples lives, so make sure you are right. Protect your children, but do it righteously.

Just wondering why every blog turns into something it didnt even start as. Thought this was a blog about PES and our children who attend this school. Just wondering why grown-ups argue worse than my children do and I sure hope our children dont see this because they copy what we as parents and adults do.
I work near PES and had no idea the librarian was accused of playing 'hanky panky' with another teacher. However, Bill Holt is a WELL KNOWN embarassment! It is my opinion many of the second graders go to the next grade unprepared to tackle third grade. In other words, it is my opinion some of the PES teachers don't spend enough of their working hours preparing the little folks for the future.
As for the threats of sueing someone for their opinion on this 'free speech' blog - JUMP ON IT!! Put your threats where your brain is suppose to be. Some idiots made similar threats to others on another site last Fall and NOTHING CAME OF IT. Are you the same empty brained, over loaded mouth idiot?? 9:13pm Why don't YOU visit the 'schools in the county' and learn first hand about the 'problems'. Since there has been soooooooooooo much rain, many of the schools are leaking BADLY, some stink because the sewer systems cannot take the saturated grounds, leaking roofs mean molding carpets, just to name a few little 'problems'. Oh but let us not forget - Giles County has the MOST BEAUTIFUL UP TO DATE football field around. LUCKY US!

The stadium looks nice. My complaint is the press box. Isn't that a little bit much? How many members of the press are going to be there?
The stadium may look nice, but I think less money should have been spent on it. Some schools are in bad shape. I believe some of that money should have been spent on the school buildings. More people would have benefited more on improving the schools than building a stadium like that. I wonder how much money was exactly spent on the press box. Does anyone know exactly how much the stadium cost?

Sept 22 9:27 You didn't mention how dangerous these condidtions have become. Not only do roof leaks plague buildings but leaking airconditioners are making things dangerious. One teacher has fallen in the county and broken a leg in the last couple of years because of a leaking airconditioner on a tile floor. The break was so serious that the teacher was off from work for at lease a year and is still not healed.
Children's and teacher's allergies are acting up and asthma is sending some to emergency rooms because of the moldy carpets in rooms that have not been tiled.
Hey some idiot put tons of moth balls out at southside! Any dummy knows moth balls, in large amounts, are a serious health hazard. Someone said it was to chase away snakes. If so, Jacko would stay away.....don't guess it works. Just caused health probs for kids and adults. Who in the H@## is making these idiotic decisions!!!!!!! My child came home sick almost every day last week, next morning better, could not find prob until I 'learned' of moth balls!
Some folks were at the 'Health Fair' at southside and said the school STINKS of sour carpet and sewer. What a JOKE 'Health Fair'. My guess is the rain has saturated the ground so the sewer system wont work like it should. Any 'blind' person can see the roof is leaking in EVERY area of the school. My kids were not sick the first time this summer, but soon as school starts back they have been sick constantly with allergies and sinus infections. We had to revisit the allergy specialist and it is due to the poor conditions the schools are in and the mold. So, my child will have to go back on allergy medicines and probably allergy shots due the poor school conditions. What will it take for the county and school officials to wake up and see how bad the schools are and were the money should have been spent?

Well we all know that Dee Ann and Jonathan Franklin has been kicking it for sometime! That's their business. But mistreating the children is our business! That needs to STOP! Bill Holt is a poor excuse for a principal or any other kind of authority. He is so angry! But let's not forget BOBBY HASTING! He is worse than Holt could ever be. Where did he come from. He doesn't care about the children at all. Try going over there to dicuss something with him about your child. It's awful how he behaves.

I believe in heaven and hell, hence i'm sure hell is going to be full of Giles County Christians..

I hope folks at PES do read this blog. If so would one of you PLEASE ask Ann Oakes to clean up her yard? It is a huge embarassment to those of us who pass by it every day to take our children to school. Even the kids comment on how trashey it looks.

I am not the one that posted about her yard and I thought there were laws in city limits about height of grass? I would help if I knew she needed it. She should have more time than I do. Schools been out all week and she doesnt have kids to tend to. I work full time and have kids and I have to take care of my own yard. Nobody comes and helps me.

It's cute how some people still think that the boe is going to act independently of tj or pursue an issue without his permission. They are only his supervisor on paper, the exact opposite is the real situation, and time after time after time that's been proven. Not a single boe member will stand up to tj if they disagree so save your breath calling your board member. I've done it, not only mine but all of them. Pat answer will be; "we'll look into it." (they won't) "we don't have the authority." (they do) or "tj told me that whatever issue has been resolved." (it wasn't) They do not make a move without his ok, no matter what they tell you to get elected. If you request that they do their job, you are labeled a troublemaker, liar, malcontent, and out of thin air, a character assination begins and snowballs.
Make it easy on yourself citizens, tow the "party line" unless you have money to burn, and enjoy stress, agravation, and high blood pressure.
I, like most, had high hopes for this board, not to "get rid of tj" but to act responsibly, ethically, and independently of the director; in short to do the job they were elected to do. I grew up, you all might as well; They won't cross their employee. Does make one curious about the power he has over them, but a waste of time to engage in flights of fancy. It is what it is.

Jackson went to Holt and asked about her file. Holt said she had only one write up. To several parents Holt said she had six complaints, and to a teacher her said he had a stack full of complaints. But he is very chummy with her. The board has been on Jackson's case about this and has not let up on TJ yet. Holt has a file of his own and Jackson has been questioned about what good it will do to write up Holt. When he retires where will it matter?
11:22, you still don't get it do you? If the board is on Jackson's back about anything it is only for a piggy back ride. They do what he says,no questions asked. The fact that the boe is legally, morally, and ethically T.J.'s supervisor is so totally irrelevant. Mr J calls the shots and the boe jumps through hoops at his say-so. As for Mr Holt, I have witnessed nothing first hand, heard plenty of gossip of course, but can only comment on what I've seen, and I've seen not a single board member cross Jackson when it should have been a "given." Let's face it, why else has his contract been extended so many times before it was even close to expiring. Because he ORDERED the board to do it so his job would be secure until he got his years in for retirement. So by all means, call your board member if you have a problem with Mr Jackson. It will be resolved immediately. Jackson will tell them to do nothing and they will obey until you are beaten down and forget about your issue.
Since the new board TJ hasn't gotten an extension on contract even though he tried to pressure two men, one not on anymore and on chairman, to vote to give him another year. They refused and the rest of the board except one woman said no. His last evaluation was below av. even though he asked the chairman at the time to throw out the very lowest to raise his score she refused to do so. Jackson time should be up in 2011 if a newly elected board next fall doesn't put in enough yes people to keep him in. He stated in the beginning he would like to be in system for 10 to 12 years. It will happen if he can call the shots on a new board. I have read up on state laws and the Director of Schools are so protected that they are almost untouchable. Call your state rep. to get your right back to vote for superintendent and this mess of directors being brought in from anywhere would be stopped.
As long as Bredesen is governor and his flunkies hold high positions counties will not be allowed to vote on their school superintendents unless we elect people to the HOME RULE COMMITTEE in the next election and include that as a part of our charter. 9:58, While it's true that the board has not given Mr Jackson an EXTENSION on his contract, they have taken NO action to publicly reprimand him for questionable behavior, nor have they terminated his contract or even attempted to. We have indeed voted in the most talented school board I have ever seen; talented that is at the dubious skill of fence sitting, all without the benefit of a single backbone between them. We should call the "Ripley's" folks. Gotta be some kind of record.
Guess what? Richland High School parents called board members to complain about the football coach. The board members told them the proper protical to follow and guess what? They did and guess what else, banning together as a group knowing the board was behind them, the football coach was strongly suggested to step down and he did. So parents call your board member, ban together and get something done if you want it to get done.

Is there a possibility that the SS principal could be gotten on charges of inability to do her job? I know of atleast one teacher who was given a pink slip last spring who had transfered into the county with the pomise that earned tenure in another county would be credited here. But the SS principal failed to complete the needed paperwork correctly so that this teacher lost a position because tenure had not been transfered to this county.
This teacher was and could still be a credit to the county school's workforce.
Are there other evidences of a lack of the SS principals ability to keep up with the job.

I don't know what the rule is but I do know that a teacher left Giles and had tenure but came back and had to go through the process again. The question would be who promised the teacher tenure when they came here. I hope we would not do that because we have had some real dillies come to teach here that should never have tenure.
We have several teachers that have been given tenure that didn't deserve tenure. Once they get their tenure they think nothing can be done to them and they can act however they want. Who exactly gives the teacher their tenure?
Tenure is granted by the state after teachers go thourgh three years on probation completing several observations by supervisors.
During these observations the teacher must demonstarte the use of scientific teaching methods, address different learing styles, use different teaching stratigies and use of different types of evaluative tools for use with the students.
If the teachers are successful demonstrating their knoweledge of skills used in teaching they are granted tenure. But they must sucessfully complete further evaluations every three to five years no matter how many years they have taught or how many degrees they have obtained in the meantime in order the retain that tenure.
If they have a poor evalutaion they are required to complete more evaluations and show improvement in the areas that showed up in their evaluations until there is improvement.
Believe it or not these teachers can loose tenure if they fail to make adequate progress in improving their teaching skills.
Tenure is not granted or retained forever. It can and has been lost because of poor teacher evaluations.
Tenure evaluations are totally subjective. It is totally up to the principal, director and school board as to who will receive tenure.
Look at the example of Mr. Young's daughter tenure was withheld until he got in line with Jackson then tenure was granted no if ands or buts. Nothing changed from the time it was denied until it was granted except Mr. Young's vote of support for Jackson.
1:06 you are completely wrong about Young's daughter. The person in charge messed that one up and it was corrected. Young is a good Christian man and has never used his influence to change things. He is not a Jackson yes man. Do you think tha these people who are on the board who automatically vote no for anything that Jackson wants are helping. Some things are for the best but if Jackson suggest it some will vote no just to vote against his ideas. That is not good either.
4:58 you have to be kidding about Young. While it's true he has done nothing to make any positive changes but he has sure taken the School Board backwards since becoming chairman. If you would attend some board meetings you would see him sit there totally unaware of what's going on while Norman and Jackson do all the talking. Young's daughter and wife both have benefited from his position on the board as Jackson's second stooge just behind stooge number one Norman. Don't believe it just check who were the only members that gave Jackson a glowing evaluation last year.
