Cost To Fight Against Financial Management
Finally after all this time and a threat to file an Ethics Violation with the State, the required financial statement showing how much money was spent by Commissioner Lovell to fight against the adoption of the Financial Management Act has been filed. I say how much money Commissioner Lovell spent because according to the statement there were no contributions from any one else, no loans made by anyone and no obligations for any expense.
So with no signatures on any page and every available block filled in with N/A it seems a very passive aggressive person complied in part by stating that he spent $2,295.00 on ads in the Free Press and $1,212.00 for ads on WKSR. Allen Barrett

Passive/aggressive? So Mr. Barrett is an expert in psychiatric diagnoses? What a joke. Looks like they are once again after Mr. Lovell, but here's the problem. You don't have anything on him, do you. So, in the absence of that, it's ok to crucify and run him down? Shameful.
No. What is shameful is an elected official going against the wishes of the voters and trying to get financial management voted out. My question is why would an elected official spend more than $3,500 of his own money to fight the wishes of the people and recruit other elected officials to join him in the fight? Created a black mark against them as well as Mr Lovell himself.
So the witch hunt goes on for Mr. Lovell. Have you ever stopped to consider that he is an honorable man who has no hidden agenda? I seriously doubt it, but you are determined to get him anyhow. Right? I wonder how many meetings you guys have had concerning him? I'll bet those were not open to the public.
I cannot believe that Lovell used $3,500.00 of his own personal money to fight the wishes of the people. I feel like he was not alone in that venture. He'll have to live with his conscience if he lied on that document.
Lovell is a mean vindictive person when he don't get his way. Just ask some people who have done business with him.

I'm not after Mr Lovell any more than he is probably after me there are just some things that we disagree on.

I don't believe anyone is out to get Commissioner Lovell. I believe the facts were being presented. If his was the only name on the from, I'm glad he can stand up for what he believes in, but the majority of Giles Countians disagreed with him. So he should have conceded the fight gracefully.

The problem as I understand it is he refused to comply with state law in filing a financial disclosure statement and when he finally did it was not in compliance. Many believe that money was collected from those in his group which would make him a liar and be another violation of the law.

I deny this was a witch hunt that there exist a small group of malcontents, that there is a plot to take over anything, that this is ridiculous and I can do it all truthfully.
JAD is on the right track as to why this was done. State law requires that a financial disclosure statement be filed by anyone or any group who bans together for the purpose of defeating or promoting a political issue. As Mr. Lovell's ads in the paper listed others as apart of his group to defeat the Financial Management Act and the request was printed seeking others to join with them they were required to file such a statement but did not. When questions were asked the elections board requested that the proper paperwork be filed. The disclosure form was submitted in a manner that simply showed a great deal of passive aggressiveness by leaving most everything blank including the signature. The only thing listed was the approximate $3,500.00 that Mr. Lovell claimed he spent from his personal funds.

And if we just don't agree with an elected official's policies or stance on issues, there's always the voting booth. Why is that so difficult to understand? Is there something I'm missing?

How about a poem about Hook, Line, and Sinker Syndrome? You could throw in the idea that sometimes people find it easier to allow just one spiteful and angry person to convince them to think the same way. That would be an unusual departure from your work, but I think it something worth pursuing.

There is two ways to look at Hook Line and Sinker. Some people swallow what ever anyone tells them whether public official or just a citizen.
