Mr. Barrett, you are 100% correct. I am tired of having to press one for english. Please, if you can't speak the language, GO HOME!!!! I have travelled enough in the military to know, that if you don't at least try speaking the native language, the people you meet will treat you differently. Unfortunately, here in the U.S., english is starting to become the minority language.

I think you just saw an opportunity to make fun of Southerners. It's not appreciated. If YOU (or y'all) don't want to hear it, why don't YOU GO HOME???

It's obvious that for some my decision to limit this blog to English only is somewhat of an irritation. I have no problem with individuals speaking any language they choose but I believe it is inappropriate and disrespectful to all those who have sacrificed so much in the establishment of this nation to have their descendants forced into accepting a language other than English when communicating to English speaking people.
This blog is about communication but little communication can take place when a language is used but not understood by all parties.

You're right 8:24 that's why they failed and no longer own the place. If they had shared one common language they would have been able to better communicate, organize and become victorious over the invaders, that's the lesson we better learn before we end up in the same situation. Allen Barrett

Actually, it was because we (European Americans) stole their land from them and the United States broke every promise and treaty we made. But hey at least they were in English.

To 10:47 I would not disagree with the idea that Native American Indians were badly treated. My point was that had they been better able to organize through a common language and purpose they would have been better able to defend their homeland. Presently we are becoming weaker as a nation through the separations caused by political correctness, racial and religious tensions. Once upon a time people came here from every area of the world and blended into the common cause of being Americans seeking a better way. Old loyalties were set aside in favor of the new identity and life. Hyphened names reflect a split loyalty. An American has always been a unique brand of person willing to sacrifice for what they felt was right, standing unashamed of being an American and working with the belief that what they were doing was worthy of their pay. Today it seems we have lost our way with people wanting to be here yet unwilling to adapt to the new world. The rugged individualism of personal responsibility that founded this nation and kept it free has mostly been replaced with an attitude of lazy dependence
and feeling of entitlement.
The American Indian lost the land through the weakness of disorganized resistance and they lost the dignity of their life when it became easier to sit in the tepee and wait for government food than to go hunt. Today we are faced with the same choices a government run cradle to grave helplessness of reservation life that robs an individual of their dignity or the independence of responsible freedom and personal accountability, which one we chose and demand will determine out future. I am a firm believer, that if you emigrate from one country, to be an immigrant in another, you need to at least adopt the language of the host country. It has nothing to do with ignorance, and maybe it does have to do with some intolerance, but where do you draw the line? If we as americans went to other countries and acted the way some immigrants do, we would be laughed at, imprisoned or thrown out of the country. The bottom line is we are Americans, and "our" national language is English and we should not be obligated to speak any other language but English.

Does anyone realize that the United States does not have an official language? And there are many tribes that still speak their indigenous languages?

Secondly, the post that started this whole thing was spam, it wasn't a Chinese person posting an opinion. It was just spam and I am sure that it was the only time it has ever happened on this blog.

You may be correct, that is something we should change. However, Mr. Barrett's point is still valid. America is an English speaking country. Maybe we should start a grassroots movement to try to do what Nashville tried and failed to do. Make our entire country, ENGLISH FIRST.

Always wanting to start a "grass roots" effort to rid the community of something. WAB deleted the Spanish comment. Tried to overturn the local gov't. Next thing will be to take women out of assignments or blacks or gays. Who is next - preachers? Oh, but we do that too.

You, sir or maam are clueless. What you have brought up is patently ridiculous. No one is trying to "overturn the local gov't. Next thing will be to take women out of assignments or blacks or gays." All I was talking about was language. You must have a deep seeded need to see this happen. I would love to see a woman president. My first candidate would be Condoleeza Rice.

You and I finally have something we can agree on. Dr. Rice would have been my choice as well. I would have liked seeing her on a ticket with someone like Huckabee. I truly believe most people in this country have Christian values and would support candidates of that caliber. I also believe most Americans know it's wrong to murder the unborn and that it's right to embrace Bible teaching. But sadly, I have to believe there are a lot of Americans who are unconcerned about those principles and who are ignorant as to what is going on in this country. And then there are those who look to government for entitlements and could care less about what politicians stand for.
I believe we will be able to thank obama when many liberals get voted out of office next election. Oh happy day!

The problem with huckaby is that he doesnt care about illegal immigration, which, along with the things previously listed, is killing our country.

Huckabee is a joke as a politician. Look at the number of times he raised taxes while governor and how little he did to slow the flood of illegals.
He has maintained the position of amnesty for anyone who sneaks across the border.
Huckabee was owned outright by Tyson Foods.
Rice didn't have the backbone to stand up to anyone.

Well just take a look at the bunch who are running our country right now. Does that not scare the pants off you? It should. By the way, what is obama doing to stop immigration? Seems to me he is focused on taxing the job creators out of business and ramming a health care plan down the throats of Americans who DO NOT want it.
