Is The County Finished With The Hunter Smith Building?
During the Commission Meeting today the question was asked by Commissioner Jackson if the County was finished with the Hunter Smith Building, If everything had been gotten out that was coming out and how much did the county make off the sale of materials that had been stored in the building.
The County Executive declared that the building was completely empty and had been turned over to the buyer. Approximately $1700.00 had been realized for the sale of excess material in the building.
The question is did the County Executive speak without knowledge of the facts, or simply state something she knew wasn't true? The fact is the Hunter Smith Building still has all sorts of election office material stored there including the voting machines which are required to be kept secured. Is this just another matter of one hand not knowing what the other hand is doing? Allen Barrett

Oh, I'm sure there's something sinister going on. This matter needs an in-depth and immediate investigation with a full report to follow.
I'm sure you think it is and that Mrs. Vanzant has somehow tricked even the county attorney. Or maybe he is in on the scam?

Answer the question. Does she know what is in the building, does she care, or is she lying about it? Very simple. No conspiracy. She said the building was empty. It wasn't. Also, who brought up the county attorney? You did. Nothing was said in the post about the County Attorney, so why did you bring them up? Now answer the question.

As for the county attorney, could you not tell that I just added that for emphasis? It wasn't intended to be an absolute fact or even a literal suggestion. Come on now; I thought you were smarter than that.
As for the building in question, let me just say that I have no earthly idea what Mrs. Vanzant was thinking when she made the statement about the building being empty. Why don't you go ask her yourself?
Since Janet would not have been the one that was actually cleaning the building maybe she stated what she thought was the truth. She may have asked that it be cleaned out and been told it was done. I do not believe it would have been her job to go and see that it was done. And as to her not being at work. I have NEVER been up there that she has not been in her office or one of the offices on that floor. But even if she were not there does not mean that she was not working.

There is no way you can be the HLSS lady that thinks she's a man.
But she should like you post.
You make me want to vote for Janet again where the HLSS lady made me think no way will I vote for Janet if she has a friend with so much anger.

If you walk past the front of the HS bldg and look in the window there's a floor covered with big boxes that presumably belong to the county ? Or are they state property ? Wonder if they're supposed to be kept in a secure environment ?

I think he HLSS thing came to be because of the spewings of one angry little man has stirred a lot of people to hate Janet, and that's just not right.
I wonder if Jackson had just let the two men speak and then go on with business if a lot of this mess wouldn't be going on.

What differance does it make about the Hunter Smith building? The Methodist Church has it now. They can leave or put anything in it they want. It's their business now. Maybe they told someone they could store things in it untill they get ready to make their bookstore there.
Maybe we've just got alot of lazy officials that can't seem to get a job done.
The problem as I see it is leaving voting machine there which makes them available to anyone and the machines have my personal info stored in them. Surely the state has some guidelines about this sort of thing.

How do you know there's still information stored on them? You don't.
Personal information is not in those voting machines. They keep only numbers.

Problem is she made the statement and it was not true. If she didn't know why didn't she and if she wasn't sure why not just say I don't know.

Why don't you pick up the phone and call her? Or, better yet, go see Mrs. Vanzant and ask her. Would that not be better than trying to trash her? Would that not be better than being a part of the hatred?
Even if Janet had said she did not know she would have been accused of not knowing what is going on. She is in a no win situation.
In her position she should know all the facts before making any kind of statement. Its what she is being paid for.
So, in other words, it's not ok for her to make a statement based on what people under her report to her?
In my opinion, Janet is the worst County Executive in the history of Tennessee....with the possible exception of Giles Collier.

Mrs. Vanzant has my vote if she chooses to run again. And I hope she isn't swayed in that decusion by a little group of complainers who try to pass themselves off as the very outspoken majority of Giles Countians.
Only time will tell who's right. Wait for the election.
I'm still undecided no HLSS for me on either side. I plan to talk to whoever is running and make up my mine, If I don't have a chance to ask the ones running I want vote for either one.
I know they don't go from house to house anymore, but sometimes you see them at some big todo nd they high hat you. If that person is to good to speak and let me ask questions, I want vote for them.
I'm not throwing this at Janet, I've never seen her when she didn't say something to me in the pass and I think she still will.

To 6:08 you're right she is much worse than anyone could have made her. As for Allen Barrett I haven't read anything he has said on here about her that he didn't give good reason for having said and when a close examination was made of his claims he was proven right. Perhaps you would enlighten us all as to something he said that wasn't accompanied by reason and evidence, but then I have read where even you don't disagree with his facts only his manner. Let me put it this way I don't care how a person kills a copperhead snake as long as they kill it.

Look, you and allen barrett are entitled to your opinions. So am I. Just because I do not see Mrs. Vanzant the same way you do doesn't make me wrong or ignorant. I do not see her as corrupt and evil the way some do. It's funny that I never hear that about her anywhere else besides this blog and an occasional attack in the newspaper. And you are right that I intensely dislike barrett's behavior, whether he's right or wrong on an issue. I just think it's outrageous and unthinkable that a preacher would conduct himself as he does. That's my opinion.
By the way, try killing a copperhead and reporting it to the game warden.

I have yet to see where Mr. Barrett has denied you any opportunity to express your opinions or criticized you for those opinions other than to say they are not supported by evidence.

I believe you should read my post again. I said barrett has a right to his opinions the same as I or anyone else does. Who said that he denied me an opportunity to post mine? Sir, those are your words. I'll not even waste my time talking to you about the name-calling.
You mentioned that I might be able to see Mrs. Vanzant better by expanding my circle of acquaintances. What a laugh. Would that larger circle include people like you? If so, thanks, but no thanks. She has my vote, and I will do all I can to help her. That's my opinion.
