Mr. Football

Congratulations to Bo Wallace on being named Mr. 2A Football Back Of The Year. This is an award not only for athletic ability shown on the field but also scholastic accomplishments in the classroom.
Congratulations also to all the GCHS football team, staff and supporters who have advanced into the state finals for the very first time.
GOOD LUCK WITH SATURDAY'S GAME TEAM........... Turn the Greene Devils into green jello. Allen Barrett

Go Bobcats! Bring home that Gold Ball!
This TEAM is a throwback to the great days of having hard work ethics, dedication, determination, sacrifice, perseverance, & positive character traits that will allow one to be successful. I would love someone to recap the story of these young men, their season and what they went through to get there. It would be a shinning example for all of us to follow.
Adults like to proclaim kids do not have any idea how to work for success. The '09 Bobcats shot that theory in the behind. These coaches and young men have set an example all of us should take note of. All working hard as one to achieve their goals. If only we as a community could learn from them and follow their lead.

If Anyone, Anyone, has ANYTHING negative to say about ANY of these young men you need to look real hard in the mirror because what you see is not much to look at!!!!

What monsters you two must be to be so hateful and spiteful. Get a life!

It is a sad day in Giles County when people take such a positive and exciting event and try to turn it into a mud fest... Jealous are we?...Bo has worked hard to get where he is today. The team as a whole has worked hard to get to the State Championship. These boys, coaches, parents and volunteers have put in many hours over the past 4 years without any complaints. And I for one have enjoyed watching them develop into a State Champion Contendor...While academics are very important they do not make a person!!!

High Five to 10:42 and 7:00!!!!! People should keep in mind he is a kid!!! A kid whose parents have backed him 100%.....As far as arrogance..most everybody is arrogant about something, especially when they read negative comments about their child on a public blog....

As a GCHS graduate of 1981, a #1 fan and a parent of a former GCHS football player I only have one other thing to say....GO BOBCATS!!!!!!!!!

Way to go! This a positive thread, and I am proud of you. Yes, Bo Wallace and the rest of the team and coaches are to be commended. And, while I disagree with your behavior quite often, this was a very nice gesture on your part. I just think it's shameful that someone had to make reference to the father and to Bo's grades. That is shameful indeed.

I am not trying to be negative but a lot of people are putting more on to the way these kids play football than the kind of people they are. 99% of the kids are great kids and I am happy and proud of their accomplishments they have done a great job. Mr. Wallace is an outstanding football player but he is a cocky smart mouth punk. I don’t know about his grades but the admin at GCHS will make sure they look good on paper. I know they will for a fact. I went to the high school during the time Tyler Smith was there and I can tell you he should not of never completed high school. When all the other kids turned in homework or took a test he would just sit there or sleep and nothing was ever said. There are also several kids on the team with known gang affiliation and past drug charges. What do you know Mr. Hastings is very good at sweeping these things under the rug. This is the problem with that school as long as you can play a sport grades and behavior don’t matter.

12/5 has some good comments. I enjoy sports as much as anyone, but grades and academics have taken a back seat to sports. Very few, if any, students will become a professional sports person. However, if one cannot read, do math or write, how much service will that person be to the community? I am also proud of the kids and their accomplishments, but keep education at the top of what they need most.
Why has Bo not gotten offers from major colleges? He forgot that it takes good grades and ACT scores to get there.
Why would a student who needed to make up a test after school be required to get to football practice first? The academic test was not as important as his football practice. That was not right. To say I don't know what I am saying is to say deny that the truth was told.

One can learn as much about life in football as in education. Don't get me wrong, scholastic education is very important, but sports.......especially championship preparation can teach one about hard work, preparation, commitment, teamwork and leadership. This team and this coaching staff is to be commended on this accomplishment.

Awesome!

627 Everyone doesn't have the IQ to be a brain surgeon. The average person doesn't doesn't have the capabilities to get enough out of a college education to make the grade. I've known many college grads who can't add & we have some teachers who fit that picture. It doesn't mean they don't know what they're teaching. (???)
The important thing too many of us forget is the fact that different people have different gifts, and education isn't necessarily the most important of all others.
Whatever gifts the boy may or may not have, one thing is for sure, he has a rare tallent, and I must admit I saw sever on the field that played better than professionals. It takes a rare degree of coordination and grit.

Whatever life does or doesn't bring to them in adult life, they indeed earnded a lifetime of memories and a knowledge that they can reach for and grab the impossible. Noboody can give it to you & it can't be bought!

Look at all the politicians and Ass. DA's down there and how arrogant they are. Realistically what have they done other than lie steal and cheat? Bo Wallace has done something no one else born and raised in Giles Co has ever done. BO WALLACE AND THE GILES COUNTY BOBCATS WON THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP! 300 plus yards passing and 60 plus yards rushing. When was the last time a Vols QB or Titans QB ever did that? Oh and in a championship game? Yeah, I would be cocky too.

To those of you who are saying grades are the most important thing not everyone is college material and high grades only count when you are planning to attend college and counting on a scholarship or want to attend a prestigious one. If not for football some of these boys who can not make the grade would be on the streets getting into trouble. Have you ever meet someone who has common sense but no book smarts? What about someone who has book smarts but no common sense? And just so you know they do have to keep a certain GPA to play and to some it may be considered low but to those who have trouble understanding some of the things they teach in school it's hard for them. And the coaches do express the need for college to them, they do a very good job of letting them know what a college degree can get them, but the coaches as well as the players know that very few will go to college and even fewer will ever step on a football field again.
Don't knock a program that is helping to make these fine young men an asset to our society. Yes, I know there are exceptions, but for the most part these young men take what is taught to them- hard work, determination, dedication and apply it to their everyday life. Most of you do not realize what these young men go through just to play. This maybe the only time in some of their lives that they get the chance to achieve something great-and to them this is great-don't knock them, just give them a pat on the back and a well done, were proud of you. Betcha some of them don't get that at home or will never have an opportunity like this again.
This was started to congratulate them on a season well done-but NO someone has to be negative-get over it not everyone has the ability to achieve a 4.0.
And as far as the Wallace's go you need to let it go-guess what? The very night that this teams achieved something great for this county someone broke into their home and stole their property. That's a nice thank you for helping to accomplish something that hasn't been done before.
To the comment about Bo being cocky, you do not know all the crap this young man has had to put up with for the last four years. There has been awful things written about not only him but his family on various blogs by adults. It's a crying shame when grown people feel the need to attack a child, I'd be a little defensive too. And because we can hide behind screen names and anonymous he will never know if the person patting him on the back may be one of those brave souls who posted negative comments about him or his family.
I've been around this team for 4 years and have NEVER heard not one of those players make a negative comment about Bo as a matter of fact they say he is very nice.

First of all, congrats to the team! Second, while Bo is talented, he is also arrogant and cocky...at times, so is his dad. That is well known and established throughout pulaski. Regardless, the crux of the matter is that while there are many here that are supportive, there are just as many folks in Giles County that would love nothing more than for him to fail. I have lived here my whole life, and have(and still do) see this on a day to day basis. It happened when i was in school(20yrs ago), and nothing has changed since then. Its as though there are folks that either didnt have the talent, or didnt put in the effort, to become successful, and therefore dont want others to enjoy success either. It isnt just in sports, but academics, finances, etc.

I agree, the I couldn't do it so you shouldn't be able to is everywhere. ENVY is not a good thing, people should be happy that others do well and if they aren't satisfied with their lives as they are strive to do better. But don't fault the young man because he has a talent-everyone is gifted with one some just haven't explored their abilities to find out what it is. We were all put here for a reason but that reason is not to bash a kid.
I have an idea those who like to bad mouth others why don't you go the person whom you are speaking about and say it to their face? Talking behind someones back and you can't back up that talk to their face is cowardly, seems to be alot of that going around too.

One thing is for sure- some people in Giles County- adults on top of that, will take something that should be a source of pride for our county and turn it in to a cause for mud-slinging. What I find is that most of the people coming on here slinging the mud have nothing in their lives of which to proud, therefore they come on here to bring others down. I know the Wallace family- I wonder if those that are running their mouths do? It is doubtful. Bo is a well mannered young man. He is no saint, as is no other teenage boy walking the halls at GCHS. His parents are not perfect, nor do they pretend to be. What I do know is that they have put up with an incredible load of crap in the four years that he has played at GCHS. To whomever posted earlier about the hypocrites that are now patting Bo on the back; you are exactly right. It is not just Bo but the whole team in general. People that have had nothing but negative things to say about GCHS are suddenly coming out of the woodwork to join our bandwagon. If you have seen the light that we have a great bunch of kids- from the football team, to the cheerleaders, to the band, to the students sitting in the stands cheering on our team- then we welcome you aboard. I appreciate the fact that this year's football team finally got us some positive attention. Now, maybe people will start to see what we that are there every day have always know- we are a good school. For all that is wrong, there is a whole lot of right. I end by saying this- to those of you that have nothing better to do than sit in anonymity and trash a high school kid, get off of the computer and go do something positive. Bill and Trina Wallace spent large amounts of time with their child and look how it turned out. The same can be said for most of the other parents of the members of the 09 Bobcat football squad. You know there is a saying- Be the change that you want to see in the world. How about trying that?

While it is great that they won the state....please dont insult the rest of us by declaring how 'wonderful and rosy' the school is.....b/c nothing could be further from the truth. Well you have the choice of 3 High schools here in Giles County: GCHS-which is no worse than many other schools in this country-at least we don't need metal detectors yet; Richland-you have to live in the school district to go there-Ooooh quite a bit has gone on there with it's students lately; Highland Baptist-you have to be able to afford to send your kids there. So I'd say Giles County High is a pretty good choice. And by the way it's the kids that make the school not the school that makes the kids. Every school even those high tuition private schools have their share of problems, it's how the community handles it that makes the difference. Instead of sitting around complaining get involved and help to make things better. After most peoples kids graduate they forget about the school until something happens-if the community was more involved we'd have less problems.

This thread is not for airing your problems with the schools it to congratulate Bo and the team so ask Mr. Barret to start a thread for all your negative talk about the schools

That "anonymous" person seemingly cared nothing for the fabulous job the Bobcats, supporters, fans, and citizens did this season. I fail to see where a false charge could be inferred from that. If you aren't 1:06, I did not comment on your post.
To 6:23 and others who are so critical of WAB's postings: I try very hard to be objective and to look at both sides of a situation before forming an opinion. So with that in mind, could you please give me the web address of your blog so that I might see what your ideas of what a forum such as this should look like. Who knows, I might prefer yours and then I would quit reading this one. I am assuming that the only reason you came to this particular blog was to critique Mr Barrett as it is obvious how much you dislike his choice of threads, topics, and comments. And of course no sane person would constantly torture themselves by engaging in behavior that was so distasteful. There really can't be another logical explanation for your presence here other than the occasional critique, and since you are such an expert, I truly would be interested in reading your blog. Surely you are not one of those who simply find fault yet never offer an alternative idea. And as your tone is so strongly negative it must pain you greatly to read the words here. I would not willingly read over and over something that upset me so. I am sure you wouldn't engage in such ridiculous time-consuming behaviors either.

I AM 1:06 and I have said repeatedly that the Bobcats and supporting staff are among my heroes. What is it that you can't seem to understand about that?
My only reason (you assume) for coming here is to critique the one for whom you so admir? That is a false charge. And I simply find fault with the fault-finders here. It's just that simple.

All of you need to chill, this has gotten out of hand. This is a thread to congratulate the Bobcats. If a post doesn't do that, ignore it.

Let's just celebrate their Victory.

By the way, Merry Christmas to all.

If anyone seen the picture of Zack Bailey in the paper I want you to know that is the way most of the kids on this team are. They are good young men and deserve all the good that will come their way because of winning a state championship.
CONGRATUALATIONS BOBCATS YOU HAD AN AWESOME SEASON!

I would like to say that I am proud of the 09 Bobcat team. They showed great heart and unity on that field. Bo, Tobias, Zach and others were great leaders and after being together for the last 4 years hard work pays off. We are proud of them and I am proud to be a graduate of GCHS. It wasn't always the best, but God is good and he allowed us to make it through! He also willed them to victory. So congrats on your great accomplishment young men!
