Candidates For Office

Recently a "rumor" has developed that the husband of an elected official is looking for a candidate willing to run in the County Executive race. This person, according to the "rumor", is seeking to recruit someone not as a legitimate candidate but as someone to simply split the vote and help the current County Executive get re-elected. While I would encourage everyone to be involved with the politics of this county, state and nation to use such an opportunity as a mere means of sabotaging a legitimate election is reprehensible. If this "rumor" should prove true I believe it will touch off a reaction so strong that every political office in the county will be challenged. Some have had, up to now, relatively easy and inexpensive re-election campaigns but history has shown that when people feel manipulated and used a strong backlash generally develops against the offender. It's a long way to August and I certainly hope "dirty tricks" will not become a part of the election process. Allen Barrett

I believe it was Alvin Reynolds who escorted Mr. Barrett out of the room. He allowed him to go back in if he would be quiet. So it at least sounds true to me.

4:55 Deputy Reynolds was in the meeting. He did NOT escort from the room. All that happened was During the break between the ambulance and budget meetings Mr Barrett asked chairman Alan Faulkner why he was not allowed to ask questions after Faulkner had acknowledged he could speak. Thought Faulkner was gonna burst a gasket he got so red. Remember this was between meetings so Mr Barrett had the right to ask the question. Barrett didnt raise his voice any louder than Faulkner did. The rumor you heard is only trying to make trouble which isnt there.

Heard the husband going around looking for a candidate to split the county executive vote is the spouse of a department head who has been in office for too long and didnt have opponent for her job in past elections. Would be interesting if someone else ran for that job. Could be seen as retaliation.

Hey,with the high number of unemployed or under-employed (part-time ) citizens right now surely it would make sense for a ton of them to 'apply' for county jobs that are open for election ....?
All it takes is getting a form from the election office and then having 25 of your friends sign it .
You DO have 25 friends dont you ?
There are several jobs coming up for election and they all pay more than $8 an hour plus benefits.
Beats being put into a job by one of your relatives like so many city and county employees have been

A member of law enforcement, I don't know his name, asked Mr. Barrett to step out in the hall with him. What was said in the hall I do not know either. Mr. Barrett was allowed to come back in. I do not know why Mr. Barrett is not commenting on this. When a meeting cannot be conducted so that committees can get their job done without a member of the public interrupting they should be asked to leave.

So you dont think that the public who pay the commissioners have a right to ask questions ? Even when those commissioners dont seem to have a clue about the subject under discussion but just show up to collect $30 for a trip into town.
I believe Mr Barrett was involved in military medical activity for many years,so isnt there a possibility he knows more about medical services than Faulkner and could contribute some sensible questions ? Particularly as the main subject at that meeting concerned some company trying to sell the county a medical billing service that they say can do a job currently not being accomplished fully by the county finance office.Somebody in the county gov't is going to need to develop a bid-spec for this service . Wouldnt it be good to have the best-possible stuff in that contract?
Or do you want to keep Giles Co in the same condition it has been for the last 200 yrs like some commissioners have put in writing ?

Repeat - the discussion regarding Mr Barrett not being allowed to speak during the ambulance meeting when he had already been acknowledged by Mr Faulkner DID NOT HAPPEN DURING ANY MEETING. THERE WAS A BREAK BETWEEN TWO SCHEDULED MEETINGS and that was when the discussion happened. Deputy DID NOT ASK Barrett to step into the hall. Barrett did not get in Faulkners face. Barrett was standing, Faulkner sitting. Both had elevated voices but not one more than the other Faulkner's meeting was over so he left. It was probably Mr Faulkner that was seen to go into the hall.

Do you, any of you realize how stupid you sound complaining about barrett on a blog that he maintains and provides facts for every opinion that he posts while you whine about how bad this blog is but won't stop reading and griping about barretts every word? Start your own blog and ban wab if you are sincere in your complaints, which obviously you are not cause your only agenda is bash barrett. I am simply flabbergasted that "anonymous" feels that barrett better explain himself! If I were wab I would laugh in your face, oh yeah can't do that cowards you're anonymous. I might in barretts place, might explain my thoughts ideas, or even actions to someone who asked nice and identified themselves. What gall you people have that you think wab owes you anything. I will attend the next school board meeting as it is held at night, simply so that I might meet this man that all these anonymous jerks think they have a right to tell him how he should conduct himself. If folks can't see the irony in their demands, they are beyond help and frankly a bit scary with their uppity attitude.

I agree with you that the statement about wab needing more time with his family is outrageous. In fact, it's the most laughable comment I have ever seen on this blog. You can bet your boots on it that he would be posting if he had some juicy bit of trash to share about certain individuals. That's my opinion.

to carl...
I see that you have really gotten into the name-calling busines. Shame on you.
Do you realize that you are about as anonymous as the rest of us? I could sign my name as Billy Joe, Susan, or even Sinclair Lewis if I wanted to. Would I be any less anonymous?
You say what gall people have to ask barrett to come on here and explain himself. Well, in my opinion, he's the one who showed his rear end at that meeting, so he is the one who needs to explain himself...since the rumor is out there. Interestingly, that's exactly the plea he makes to certain elected officials. So why can't someone make the same request of him?
Finally, I really do think you should attend some meetings and see wab in action. Then maybe you will understand why many people find him despicable. Why? Go see for yourself.
I don't see the irony you mentioned. There are certain levels of conduct that people are expected to abide by. Having said that, let me share with you what I see as an irony.
A rumor was promoted on this blog by wab, and now he's the victim of a rumor. Can you see the irony? Unbelievable.

Carl J. Brigham, Anthony Hill TN here: Still find it idiotic that private citizens would DEMAND and presume to think another private citizen owes them an explanation. Unless you are paying his bills and supporting him, well I can tell you he is much more polite than I would be. You folks think all manner of dubious behavior by PUBLIC officials should be overlooked and never discussed which is the polar opposite of what our forefathers wanted for our country, but let a private citizen speak his mind and you trash him, again an unconstitutional act that you are committing. Worse yet, you do it anonymously which is the worst kind of cowardice. And not one of you are intelligent enough to even know what any of the issues are, you are just about wab. You just keep reading his opinions based on facts and bash his behavior, not caring a bit about the state of Giles CO. If you cared, you would post rebuttal to facts, not personality, but as I said, apparently you don't even know what issues of gov't are involved. Here's one piece of advice for WAB; I wonder how many of the pseudo intelligent protectors of elected officials/bashers of private citizens would be willing to spout off if they had to do like most blogs and provid a valid email before posting.....seriously doubt any would be that brave. Way too cowardly behavior. Never knew Giles Co had so many citizens who disliked our Constitution. It's your blog wab, requiring email would weed out the jokers and provide a forum for intelligent discussion. The gossips can just go to the Enquirer. Just a thought. Now I'm gonna sit back and watch the ignoramouses anonymously devour themselves with their justifications of how their purpose is oh so noble in that they only want to protect public figures for the citizens they have to answer to. Am still amazed that people actually put in print that a private citizen owes them any kind of explanation...and they call wab arrogant.

To Mr "so important that he must remain anonymous" 2:49 pm you may certainly have my answer: I will explain as simply as possible to avoid your "confusion." But first, more instruction on how blogs normally work and how wab is being incredibly accommodating by allow these scared little people to post. I know of no other blog that allows posting without a valid email address. The owner of the blog agrees to keep these addresses private, it weeds out the robo-posters and people who refuse or are not able to stick to a topic or who unfairly attack someone for expressing an opinion about a private person and damaging their reputation. That is the huge difference between what you do and what wab does. While he frequently posts less that favorable opinions regarding public servants, he never does without provide the basis for his opinion and he puts his name to his opinion so that anyone who is offended is free to contact him directly should they really and truly care about resolving an issue. Robo posters such as yourself never ever mention an issue and attack a private citizen by name and smear or attempt to smear his reputation. I am sorry that you do not understand the difference between public and private, but in this society, elected officials must by virtue of running for office be prepared to endure tough questions regarding their actions, character and reputation. It's part of the job description. Private citizens forced to endure that same treatment is unfair and borderline criminal, especially when done so by someone who won't have the guts to sign their name. To any of you who arrogantly proclaim you must call wab or anyone on their behavior of criticizing PUBLIC officials, I can assure you that you are doing so to their detriment. Anybody who needs a coward to speak for them secretly does not deserve to hold office. But the most telling evidence of all that you are indeed indifferent to public issues is your total lack of evidence or rather your complete silence on public issues. Your one and only theme throughout every post is slamming the blog owner. I seldom agree with wab, very seldom but at least I understand where he is coming from as he speaks on issues or PUBLIC figures and he provides facts. Your sanctimonious, "he started it" baloney is childish and pointless. If Mr Barrett is so wrong, then prove it instead of just bashing him,,,most would be happy with one or two facts compared to wabs multitude.
And you are wrong about irony..so many posters expect wab to give an explanation of the events at a public meeting, but won't even give their name when demanding that information=that is irony. And the reason it's not "ok" for a rumor to be started about wab while according to you he started a rumor first is three fold-first of all there's that "he started it" babyishness again, and second of all he didn't start it, he reported about it on a blog that he owns about a PUBLIC citizen so that taxpayers who care about issues might check it out and thirdly, the biggy that you can't comprehend, or don't want to comprehend-wab is not a public elected or tax paid employee. He is a private citizen that allows silly little anonymous folks who can bash but can't admit to bashing to take pot shots at him in the hopes that maybe one or two or a few citizens will care enough about their community to check things out for themselves.
I will not respond to you any longer, your words are as worthless as an anonymous note or prank phone call in the days prior to caller i.d. My advice, man-up or shut up.

No, I NEVER said wab "started" the rumor. Who knows where it might have originated? But my point remains that if he can post a rumor, then why can't he "man-up" as you call it and put the rumor about himself to rest?
So many posters expect wab to make an explanation? Interesting. I thought I was the only one in the world who had any concerns about his behavior. Or should I say misbehavior?

I apologize for leaving folks sort of hanging but I did not realize that what happened between the Ambulance and Budget meetings on Thursday had become such an issue.
I was out of town with my uncle who suffers from advanced Parkinson's. I have a live in care provider with him but must make frequent trips to provide some relief for her, do the shopping, make Doctor appointments etc. While there I do not have access to a computer connection. I was only able to convince him to get cable TV about eighteen months.
I appreciate those who tried to explain what happened at the meetings and those who tried to explain that as a private citizen I have no obligation to answer any questions about my life or actions. I do so in an attempt to help keep aware those who wish to be informed about county happenings
Thursday morning there was to be a combined Committee Meeting of Commissioners on the Ambulance and Budget Committees. It turned out not to be a combined meeting as much as back to back meetings with the Ambulance Committee chaired by Commissioner Faulkner, he also happens to be from my district. At the beginning of the Ambulance meeting Commissioner Faulkner announced that the order for those speaking or asking questions would be first those on the committee, second Commissioners not on the committee and third private citizens. The meeting began with recognition and appreciation expressed for Jimmy Young who recently died. The second order of business was to approve write offs totaling $6,400 for the month of January by the Ambulance Service.
The third item of business was a presentation by AMB-MARS Billing Company. This presentation lasted more than an hour and cause many questions to be asked by Commissioners many of which were redundant. Finally Chairman Faulkner recognized me to speak to be followed by Mrs Proud another private citizen. I complimented the presenters on their program and stated that I had several questions that would require very brief responses. I asked the first question and was filibustered by the Billing Company representative.
I asked two more questions at which time Commissioner Jackson very angrily shouted out "I call for the question". I stated that I had not finished and as the recognized speaker I was the only one at the moment authorized to speak. Commissioner Jackson again look at the County Executive, apparently for guidance, and demanded the vote be taken. I reminded the chair of his previous commitment to let the public speak and was told things had changed. Mrs Proud then approached the Billing Company and asked him a direct question about costs, which no one in the room admitted any knowledge of. Mrs Proud then stated that if you don't even know what this is then it's gonna cost the county a whole bunch of money. The issue was decided and the next order of business was announced this included purchasing several items for the Ambulance Service and the request to have the county pay the utilities at the Elkton Ambulance Station as soon as the North Station came on line.
The meeting was adjourned and I approached Commissioner Faulkner and sat down next to him. I stated that I was very disappointed that he had gone back on his word about allowing people to speak. His response was that he really didn't care what I thought. Continued in next comment

I reminded him that he was my representative and
it was part of his responsibility to listen to his constituents to which he said I should call him. My response was that I could never get hold of him and that he never returned my calls. While both out voices were louder than whispers there were by no means shouting. It was at this point the County Executive spoke to Deputy Reynolds and he then directed me to end the conversation. I asked what he was talking about and he stated that I was making a disturbance. I said I had not spoken a bit louder than Commissioner Faulkner. I was then told to do what I was told or else.
I turned back to Commissioner Faulkner and was given his home and cell phone number. As I wrote those number down I was again told by Deputy Reynolds I had to leave. He asked me to come into the hallway which I did as Commissioner Faulkner left the room at the same time and continued to the elevator.
I continued to speak with Deputy Reynolds showing absolutely no disrespect to him or his position but expressing the fact that I had done nothing different than what Commissioner Faulkner had done. I then returned to the meeting room as the Budget Committee was called to order.
I do not hold Commissioner Faulkner or Deputy Reynolds or myself culpable in any way for this incident. This was the direct result of the County Executive's vindictive attitude, witnessed many times by Commissioners and the public alike, toward me.
I hope this has helped clear up the matter of how a tiny ant hill was turned into a mountain of retribution by a very small minded incompetent County Executive.
I apologize for the lengthiness of my response, there 46 comments before me. If there are any other legitimate questions I will be more than happy to speak with anyone my phone number is 363-1983. Allen Barrett

To Carl, I appreciate your supportive and very reasoned comments. I look forward to meeting you also.
One of the reasons I have chosen to put my name on my post is to be accountable. I have no problem responding to any legitimate questions about myself or my beliefs. I'm pleased to clear up any misunderstanding if I can but all I can do is state the facts as I know them and let people make up their own minds. Some will never accept any explanation, no matter how it's supported, they have simply made up their minds and will not be swayed by the facts.
I never asked everyone to agree with me on all matters. I've learned over the years that you learn very little from people who always agree with you. What I have asked is that if anyone wants to change my mind on a matter simply show me something other than your "feelings" to support your views.
I have core beliefs that I will not step away from but seldom do most events or situations have only one side. It's kind of like when you ask a person how many sides there are to a 2x6 board and they adamantly state four with no other possibility. So you tell them it's actually six and give the reason why, yet they still refuse to accept it. Allen Barrett

I could care less what mr. van zant does. It really isn't the issue pertaining to janet.

Over all we have an excellent form of county government - with one big exception. Citizen input is basically denied and muzzled. From all appearances, Mrs van z. puts herself in the position of being the one who rules no input with an iron fist.

Sometimes the questions may be dumb in my view, but that doesn't mean they are irrelevant to those ask them and by virtue of paying taxes has that right! Based on the many very significant issues Mr Barrett has challenged and caused corrections to make things right, says we owe him more than a disrespect when discussing financial and other county matters.

Right wrong or otherwise, the process of government muzzling the public when it comes to "public" business, reminds me of a bannana republic mentality - run by two bit dictators. It's very negative & gives our community a black eye and image of corruption!

Janet has had my vote. I don't dislike her personally. There is simply no excuse for her sending a deputy after Barrett, simply because she hates him. She will not get that vote or support this time.

I would guess that the meeting at barrett's house was by invitation only. I doubt that there was any drinking going on, but I would say there was a lot of talk about Mrs. Vanzant, Mr. Jackson, and select commissioners. If that's what was going on, it would appear that there really is a small group (VVM) out there who do have their secretive meetings to discuss and plan strategy. If that be true, shame on the preacher. Just an opinion.

Yes, it is hilarious when you consider what goes on with this blog. In reality, it is presently all about bashing and trashing specific elected officials these people do not like. I believe it's largely perpetuated by an angry and politically impotent person who is incredibly angry and resentful (describing behavior). I could be wrong about it, but that's how it appears to me.

Do you have a point? Consider this. Your neighbor might throw a party at his house and invite everyone on his block; you live on another block. It means that you aren't invited to the party. What a laugh.

I almost missed the little jewel you posted about the party at my house last night.
Your statement was as erroneous and stupid as the earlier charges made about me being a disbarred lawyer from Nashville or being in a feud with Tammy Pollard. What should I expect next a revelation that I'm actually Michael Jackson in hiding?
Before you make claims about what goes on at my house at least find out where I actually live. There was no party or gathering of any sort at my house last night
other than me, my wife, cat and dog.
A neighbor several doors from me had some sort of gathering with several vehicles parked along the curb. They didn't block anyone's way and they certainly didn't act in any way that would draw attention other than possibly the number of vehicles.
If we choose to have a party if you would leave your name I would be more than glad to send you an invitation. Thanks for your overzealous concern. Allen Barrett

They are Norman (1), Young (3) Greene (5) and Murrey (7). Then you have commissioner and etc. Who would you like to see in those positions. Why else would he not provide a last name or some other means of identifying oneself from a poster with the same name.
Mr Barrett you are a much more generous person than I, as I would not explain my actions to a shadow figure, especially one who would spy on my home and family. I do not understand why they think there is no difference between a public and private citizen, nor why they think Americans should supress their right to question the people we put in office. Whoever posted that Carl is a made up name is correct when referring to the post of last evening. I do not engage in a game of "gotcha" and I do not demand of a stranger to explain his actions or beliefs. Unless I pay his salary, it's none of my business. County mayors, commisioners, school board, is a different ball game and if they do NOT explain to me what I want to know, business related then they are liars and crooks. It's black and white, unless anyone can tell me of someone who ran on the platform of secrecy and deception, that is.

Topic is that an elected official's husband (not the county executives husband) is trying to get a third party to run for county executive to split the vote which most likely would the incumbent in office. I do agree with you the spouse's current elected position could end up with another candidate and maybe that candidate would win, resulting in the spouse being knocked out of office. And in my opinion I hope thats what happens. Dirty politics indeed.

Is it not true that one could be held at least partly liable if he loaned his car to someone who drove the car and became involved in an accident? Would that not also be true for the owner of a newspaper or even a blog in the event of a libel lawsuit? I think it would be. The former could be found liable while the latter could be exposed to libel.

Let's put the stupid threats of libel suits to rest as they are as empty as the heads that project them.
First of all a matter has to be proven to be libel in a court of law which requires testimony under oath and the real possibility of perjury. This is why I don't post anything on here that I can't back up. I invite anyone who so chooses to sue me. You can have this blog shut down tight simply by winning a lawsuit against something that I have posted here. Why hasn't there been an abundance of lawsuits, simply because they are too costly and can not be successfully executed.
Second for a person to be charged with libel or anything else they have to be identified.
Third it has been held in court that the blog owner or administrator can not be held responsible for the content of comments posted by others.
Fourth a blog is merely an extended means of conversation where opinions are debated.
Trying to scare people into silence is a reprehensible act of a true cowardly tyrant. Allen Barrett

Apparently the witch hunters on this blog do not know Carol Wade. I have known Carol for over 30 years. She is a good person who has very high morals. She has been a asset to Giles County in her current and past position.
I also know Mike, not as well, but I know him to be someone who might say something in joking without thinking that someone might take it sooooo serious!!!
I feel like everyone on this blog has said or done something that has been misconscrued by someone else, and has had to back pedal and explain themselves...if not you must not communicate with others!!!

Let's just say that the statement that Mike and Carol wants someone to run to split the votes is true....this is not against the law...it happens all of the time in county, state, and federal government!!! I don't think it would even be classified as a moral issue...!!!
Voting is a privilege that every citizen of the United State (within the law) has the right to do...if 20 people run for the same position.....one person is going to win...elections in Giles County are not won on the political views..they are usually won on popularity and who has or not made the most enemies!!!

Again, if you would take the time to get to know Carol Wade...I think you would not be posting this negativity on this blog.

Excellent post. Carol Wade is one of the best people I have ever known. And I know for a fact that Mike was just kidding around about the split ticket controversy. By the way, did you know that Carol won a state award last year for her job performance? Impressive.
What you need to understand is that there are those in Giles County who are constantly looking for someone to criticize and to ultimately run out of office if they can. These are the very same people who are constantly on witch hunts for those unfortunate elected officials who do not meet their lofty standards of performance and thinking. These are also the same people who cannot themselves get elected to office and neither can their candidates.
I would say just overlook them, but you can't. They are unrelenting in their attacks and will not go away. In my opinion, what they are doing is shameful and should be against the law.

8:14 If you were simply asking a question, then why did you have to be cute and suggest LOTS OF LIES? We both know what LOL stands for. It sems that MAYBE you too have bought in to this idea that so many people in Giles County are corrupt liars. Otherwise, why did you say that?

Because maybe I really don't know what LOL means. Lots of Lies was the first thing I thought of. Is that a crime? The way the above posters comment about our County Officials, I figured LOL means Lots of Lies. Sorry if I offended anyone.

I think we need less lambasting and a will to work together. I also think some people need to be more concerned with soul winning rather than stirring up strife and contention.

Has anyone heard who has picked up their papers to run for any office yet. We have all county positions open and school board 1,3,5,7. Any glues. In board race district 1 had Kathy Norman. She isn't going to run. Anyone have any idea who would be good to run in her place that wouldn't be a yes to Tee person. Mike Young is District 3 and Jim Greene is District 5. Rumor has it they aren't going to run as well. Murrey is district 7 and hasn't gotten paper work yet. So any suggestions on the election and who is thinking of doing what?

Folks, we need some strong and respectable people in all districts to step up and run for these positions. You can bet your bottom dollar who will be running if this doesn't happen. They can't get elected if good people will run against them. They have tried this before, and every single one of them was defeated. Think.

I sincerely hope those who are deciding at this point not to run for re-election will re-consider in light of what I just said. Don't let these people run you off. Do it for Giles County. Can't you see that running you off is what they want to do? But of course, they would never admit to that. Please give this serious thought.

I am one of those who have decided not to run again and the reason is I simply can not deal with the dishonesty of Mrs Vanzant any more. She isn't just incompetent she is a vindictive, evil, shrew.

Well, it's clear whose camp you're in. I just hope and pray some good and respectable people will run in not only your district but in all of them. I hate to tell you this, but if that happens, the know-it-alls do not have a chance. They know that as well.
Before closing, I just want to say that I find Mrs. Vanzant anything but the names you so eagerly call her. Even if she were a vindictive shrew, I couldn't blame her one bit. She has had to endure more character attacks, name-calling, and criticisms from the great one and his entourage. It's too bad you side with those people.

To 9:51 you need to run to make a difference. Work against her on the commission. Quitting gives her a leg up on one more member.

6:21 I did not side with anyone. I started out with about the same attitude you have about Mrs Vanzant. I had never seen her as anything other than a nice lady who was in a very tough job. My opinion changed, not eagerly as you claim but over more than three years of watching her manipulate, lie, threaten and belittle people. When I first ran for office I though Mr Barrett was a kook determined to stir up trouble I came to realize he is just a nice, very well informed, smart man who is interested in the well being of this county. Far from the know it all you describe I found him to be a rather good listener. Some may think he's harsh and overly aggressive but in light of the way he has been treated he has shown a lot more restraint than I ever could have.

I think you may be completely delusional. My vote and all the support I can give stays with Mrs. Vanzant. It's your right to think what you wish, but I believe you are totally wrong about Mrs. Vanzant. Ask yourself this question. Who is the one who has constantly tried to belittle and malign her. It's barrett.

Well, I know you guys who are out for Mrs. Vanzant's head on a platter are disturbed (putting it mildly) about her piece in the paper this week. Looks to me like she clearly explained what happened with the beer permit issue. Oh, but I'm sure you will accuse her of lying or trickery in an attempt to discredit her. But you know what? There are a lot more people for Mrs.Vanzant than against her. And you will find this out at election time.

Both of which I have quoted from lots of times in the past -when it suited my purpose " ??

Did it ?

You and I would strongly disagree on what Mrs. Vanzant had to say. And I didn't interpret her letter as some kind of "gotcha" proof that she screwed up. I think she defined and clarified the problem. Why did she bother? Because of vindictive people like you I would think.

It was an interesting response for the County Executive in the 2 March Pulaski Citizen in that she used up a lot of words to say so very little about what she actually did and why she did it.

She states “I always follow the law as laid out by local, state and federal government.”
First thing that comes to mind in response to that statement is if it’s true why doesn’t she actually live in Giles County as required by law?

The main thing that stands out about this statement is, how can you follow the law if you don’t know what it is?
Clearly one violation of the law she committed is the simple fact that by her actions she vetoed the actions of the County Legislative Body.
Let us accept that it was as she claimed a simple mistake on her part in announcing that the vote would require a two thirds majority then declared that the measure had failed.
At that point is where the simple mistake ends and a more sinister activity began to take shape. When the County Executive, correctly or incorrectly, announced that the resolution had failed and it was recorded in the minutes as having failed with no objection from any Commissioner or other authority in the room that became officially the end of the issue.
Now she states “later during the week” she was told she had been incorrect. Legally the only way those minutes and that action could be changed was by another vote by the County Legislative Body, the only one authorized to pass or fail a resolution.

Mrs. Vanzant states, “I did not take it upon myself to make the correction, which I would never do except to follow the advice of the attorney and follow the law and protect our county”. I challenge Mrs. Vanzant to produce any and all statements where an attorney, either from CTAS, or any other source, authorized her to overturn the decision of the Commissioners. If the decision that was recorded in the minutes should have been overturned it could only legally have been done by another vote of the Commissioners.

Now understand the County Attorney had advised against issuing a beer permit to anyone until after the State Attorney General had issued an opinion about the legality of the actions. Mrs. Vanzant personally was involved in directing the Beer Board members that they could approve the permit immediately and gave the order to Carol Wade to issue the permit.

There is much that can be speculated about as to why the County Executive acted as she did but the one thing that stands out and can not be disputed is that she exceeded her authority as County Executive by vetoing the Commissioners and ordering a beer permit to be issued before the matter was cleared up. This is inexcusable behavior from anyone and especially from someone who has been the County Executive for over seven years and should have known better. Allen Barrett

Again, you show your ignorance, your rear end, and your hatred and jealousy. Why can't you just accept the fact that Mrs. Vanzant IS the county executive (elected by the people) and that you are politically impotent?
To counter your latest mean-spirited attack on Mrs. Vanzant, I would just tell you that she has my continued support. Because of those like you, I will help her in any way I can during her campaign. But I'm already doing that.
You sit back like a spider in the web who is waiting to pounce on a bug that makes a mistake. Who appointed you the sheriff of Giles County? You did.
As I said on that latest "very positive and enlightening" thread you started, Mrs. Vanzant IS a good and decent woman who works hard to serve the people of Giles County. Just because she doesn't do things to suit you doesn't make her deceitful or incompetent. Everyone can't be as perfect as you seem to think you are. What a laugh.
By the way, I think your behavior is what is inexcusable.

All of you that say you support Mrs. Vanzant and think she is a good person, listen up and read slowly!
As a previous employee of Giles County and along with several others that will say the same: You will never know this woman unless you have worked with her or for her.

SHE IS EVIL, PERIOD!

She starts most of the rumors on herself for reasons of getting re-elected and on others people like Jacksons and Wade for the same purpose. Just keep the light off of her. Smoke and Mirrow.
She is only concerned with self and running everything and everybody. Seems to be working well for her so far.

She will get hers in due time...probably in the form of not being re-elected! Let's hope so!! Any of us who have had these personal experiences with her have no one to prove anything to. It is just so shameful a person can be so deceitful and backbiting and all along fool so many people. She has become quite the talk in many circles. People are fed up and ready for her to go. Well, Janet I think your game is up.

Well, I truly think there's a small group of malcontents who are :fed up" with being powerless and who want her to go along with every other elected official they deem unworthy. The funny thing is that those this little band is so against were all elected by the will of the voters. Wiykd their atempt to get the charter passed be a clever way to negate the people's will and rid the county of those they see as unfit? Think. They way I see it, it's that same little group (small circles) who are trying to fool a lot of people.
Mrs. Vanzant continues to have my support. What's more, I now plan to help her campaign in any way I can. You have given me that determination.

At first glance, that may seem a bit far fetched. However, do you really trust those who are calling for the heads of practically all of our elected (by the people) officials? Have you ever questioned their agenda? I do.
Surely, you don't believe that those who run around town calling people nasty names and making all sorts of accusations are more concerned for the people of Giles County than they are in gaining control. I don't.

That's because many of them are tired of the constant attacks by a non-existent and overly critical group. It's sad, because they will be running their candidates. This time, I suspect that they will hold off on picking up their papers til the absolute deadline so they can see who they will be up against.
I would appeal to all commissioners and school board members to not let these people run you off. If you can't or will not seek re-election, at least try to find some good and respectable people to step up and run aginst them. Show them that their attack and smear campaigns will not work.
