Tim Turner Responds to Tourism Move
So I guess I'll chime in finally, having received many phone calls, emails, and words of support. Also a couple of not so happy people, I figured I'd set the record straight and address a couple of comments made here so there's no confusion about this situation.
First off my decision to inform Mr. Barrett about the happening at the Aug 21 property meeting. Myself, nor the Tourism organization were ever informed about a "pending" situation of the THP. Not that we had to be, but I would imagine that as a professional courtesy someone would have said "hey-we have a situation, what can we do to solve this impending problem?" The public announcement about the property meeting included a discussion about the THP's rent issue--and "storage” in the basement. But Mr. Jackson apparently had already solved the problem as the contract that Tourism signed was presented to the commissioners at the meeting...if we weren't to be discussed? then why the preparation of the contract? In fact--Tourism will/would be happy to accommodate the request. The issue is and never has been against the THP, they are a vital part of the county. I even conveyed that to the 2 officers there after I left the meeting, that situation was not of their doing.
Next, my sole source of frustration with this is the fact that when I asked if the committee would be willing to discuss alternatives for us, the discussion was squashed. Simply put, except for Terry Harwell & David Adams speaking up and asking to hear from me about it, there was no consideration or care about where we went--as long as we went. Had I not been there, I’d have known nothing about it. That was very confusing seeing as how we've have enjoyed the support of the full commission for the most part having them support the reason for the move in the first place. The fact that this wasn't a full commission meeting was also the reason for telling Mr. Barrett the outcome and decision because not only does he attend most meetings but I figured we'd have to have the support of the Full commission before the next meeting and I needed help in getting the word out.
I've seen the issue about revenge? No I do not think it's a revenge issue. I am bound by our organization's charter that we do not endorse, participate, or campaign for ANY side. Hence the reason you never saw a particular candidate on our calendar or on the Tourism Facebook/Twitter sites. I’ve heard that since I went to Scott Stewarts house night of the election is the source of contention--well it's not a stretch to realize that not only is Scott a nice guy, but my relationship stems (if it’s anybodies business) from the fact that he covered meetings (before he decided to run) and works for the paper-which I contribute an article to from time to time---and by the way, the man invited me to his house. I didn't turn down anyone else's invitation as I had none, So I'd expect more than people to think it was as shallow as "campaign support" as I displayed none. The paper had a statement from Mr. Jackson that we’d received 20K the last couple of years and we could afford to pay rent...really? Actually and thankfully we received 17,100.00 the last 2 years having felt the cutbacks of 10% like everyone else, plus the bonus of the rent free area we enjoyed the last year. That’s the reason for the revelation of my salary, to demonstrate that we are a small organization, not to rally sympathy, give me a break. . If someone had an issue with something I did as an employee the proper thing to do would be to take it up with the Board for which I answer to, not me or my organization after the fact. I do what my board asks/instructs me to do, except for informing Mr. Barrett the outcome of the 21st meeting and this post as I’m sure it will not be popular. After all is said and done, apparently as I stated in the paper--the issue will not even go before the Full commission on Monday Sept 20th. I received my official letter today stating that we had 60 days to vacate the office.
If anyone would like to call about what I have said, I’d be happy to discuss it, not that I’d like to dwell on it, it’s happened and we will move on and forward, but what has been said is what happened. I sure wont be going back on it no matter how unpopular it is painted. I and my board have worked hard to do some neat things, and my board is made up of good people who have supported me, I hate that they may suffer someone elses dislike of me or my accomplishments no matter how small they may be perceived. This is a great county and I enjoy promoting it and will continue to do so. Thanks

The question I have about this situation is by what authority does Mrs Henson have to send a letter signed by no one but herself telling the Tourism Commission they have until 16 November to be out of the Courthouse?
The fact of the matter is that Mrs Vanzant in all her arrogance does not have the authority to allocate any space in the courthouse for anything or anyone without the approval of the full legislative body. Commissioner Jackson in all his perceived importance does not have the authority to allocate any space in the courthouse to any one or anything without the approval of the full legislative body.
The question is will the 20 September commission meeting be used as in times past to bully new commissioners into making a decision before they even realize what they are deciding. It will be interesting to see if this new Commission will have the backbone to stand up and be counted or will they cower in their seats with a cowardly approval before the questions are even asked? The character shown Monday will give a glimpse of what to expect for the next four years. Allen Barrett

To 6:10 I noticed that as usual you made no mention of the facts of the matter or even offered an opinion on the legality of the matter.
What else would you call it but arrogant self-importance when someone steps well over the bounds of their authority and circumvents the entire process of proper conduct by an elected official. This certainly looks like grounds for an ethics complaint.
Oh, by the way this is another one of those many examples where you are enabling wrongdoing. By not applying the rules equally you enable wrong doing. By allowing the County Executive to override the rules without criticism you enable wrongdoing. By not following the rule of law you enable wrong doing.

THE LAW as defined in the TCA's is very specific . NOBODY other than the county's FULL legislative body is authorised to allocate space in the courthouse or any other county-owned property .
The full body have NOT voted on this topic so Jackson, VanZant and Henson have ALL exceeded the authorities granted to them by county taxpayers (they DO tend to forget who they are working for ).
Combine this arrogance with the 'law ignoring ' judge who inhabits the upper floor (or is it 'law making' ? )and it is easy to see that Giles county is predicated to have 'interesting times' in the upcoming years . All in the spirit of the Chinese curse "May you live in interesting times "

Tim, just consider Mrs. Vanzant and Stoney Jackson as who they really are. Back biters, two faced liers. Keep them at arms length for they are vendictive people who like to think they are important. The tourism agency doesn't owe Vanzant and Jackson anything, if anything they need tourism. It's just another way Vanzant and Jackson is repaying Danny Boy for all his favors. We all know that's true.
You're better off not being at the courthouse where you have to look at those two. The new location and the change of scenery will be perfect for tourism. The courthouse is beginning to smell. Has Joe Vanzant been hanging around in the courtrooms?

I hope you consider what purpose, if any, these statements that have been made about innocent parties bring to this blog and will, as you said, “try to do better in the future” at policing your blog. Who's the shrink?
Not once have I written anything on this blog about anyones family unless they had become a public issue. I haven't even written about the DUI's, arrests, drug use, extra-marital affairs by some officials children and spouses because I feel now and have felt that a person's family should remain a private matter unless they insist on becoming a public problem. Surely even the most stupid and insensitive would not willingly go down that road.

I am 6:38 pm and I agree with you. Family members of elected officials or those running for office should be off limits on this blog unless the topic directly involves them. I did not say you had ever posted anything about family members but others have made these types of posts. That was the point I was trying to make. As blog master, YOU have the ability to delete these kinds of posts. You said yourself you would try to do a better job of “policing” YOUR blog and I hope you will.

Stoney Jackson got blowed out of the water this morning by Mrs. Faulkner. Maybe next time he will have his facts straight before he sticks his nose in other peoples business. He wants Tourism to go to the Interpative Center without heat and air, no roof, no bathroom, and the plaster is falling of the walls according to Mrs. Faulkner. I guess they could use one of the trees outside for the bathroom, Don't know what they would do if it rained. If he was trying to look good I can assure you he made a fool out of himself.

Which building is the Interpretive Center? I want to go see it.
The Interpretive Center is the Old Catholic Church located in on East College Street just South of the Recreation Center. Work is being done outside in the form of benches and statues, bu there is much work to be done on the inside. The center is meant to be used to bring tourism into the county, and work has been done on it for several years, but it will just a bit longer before it is ready to be open to the public. Designers, Disney Imangineers to be exact, have already come in and proposed out how the interior could designed to our advantage, so adding something else will throw off much of the work previously done.
Excuse me, I meant it is West of the Recreation Center.

Since there still hasn't been a vote by the Commissioners authorizing such a letter I am still waiting for someone to tell me by what authority the county attorney sent the letter to the Tourism Board and ordered them to vacate the premises.
No one but the Commissioners are authorized to make such a decision so how can the Commission allow themselves to be by-passed in such a matter especially when so many have expressed disapproval at the action and the way it has been carried out.
