How Do Citizens Get Information About Local Issues?
How would you change the way citizens get information about the local issues that are important to our lives? This topic was first posted on 2/2/2006.
Presently there are only a few means by which information is shared with the general population; the weekly newspaper, WKSR AM & FM radio, WXXL radio, and this blog. A less general audience receives news from the PES cable channel, the Columbia newspaper and the Nashville and Huntsville stations, the latter two seem only interested when there is a murder involved.

How should people get information regarding what is going on during local government meetings? SIMPLE ...Attend the meetings and get involved.
Am I suppose to miss work to go to the meetings? Sorry I'm not that rich where I can do that.

I don't know if Barrett is bias or wrong in his post. He signs his name and I want, So anyone can call him.

So how exactly are we supposed to go to the County Commission meetings? They have refused to move their meetings to the evening when more people could attend. This is a new commission, and maybe we should ask them to.

I've been reading Pinheads and Patriots by Bill O'Reilly. Please allow me to share a few thoughts from his book.
O'Reilly defines pinheads as those who try to harm people who disagree with them. They want to punish and demean them. That's why the lie was started that I would willingly or even ignorantly go along with wrongdoings. Yes, that's a lie. On the other hand, Mr. O'Reilly defines a patriot as one who has the courage to state his beliefs without rancor (bitterness or resentment). I believe I am a patriot. Where do you stand?

I disagree. Many of us do not post our names for a variety of reasons. I simply choose not to do it, and I don't have a job in county government. My posting anonymously has NOTHING to do with a lack of courage. More importantly, I have no esteem needs to be met by seeking the spotlight.

Since you want to use language you have no clue what it means, let me "entertain" you; "I'm your Huckleberry" was popularized by 2 things, one being Mark twain, who named his famous character Huckleberry Finn from that quaint saying. It was more recently popularized by the film Tombstone - in which Doc Holliday played by Val Kilmer stated, "I'm your Huckleberry." It doesn't mean Nemesis, as you stated earlier,
what it means is easy enough. To be one’s huckleberry — usually as the phrase I’m your huckleberry — is to be just the right person for a given job, or a willing executor of some commission. So if you are my Huckleberry, then you are the right man for the job. So the job is, shut up and listen, you don't know half as much as you think you do, and probably even less than that.
