Distillery For Lynnville

Today the announcement will be made by Dan Speer that a new Distillery "Tennessee Southern Distillery" will be put into operation in just a very short time. This is separate from the Distillery announced for the Interstate By-pass development.
This distillery will be located about 2.5 miles south of Lynnville on Abernathy Road. It will be a $600,000.00 investment with a 4,000 sq. ft. bldg. and 5-7 employees for one shift to start
This will be announced at the Pulaski City work session today along with a request for a Natural Gas line extension from Lynnville to the property. Because the gas will be used in manufacturing and not just for heating the line should pay for itself very quickly.
Having been a critic of the director of Economic Development, I now want to congratulate him for this work and request that people go to the work session and support the request for the gas line extension.

Here's some questions that have been kicked around the county already this weekend..

Where/When will the meeting be held ?

WHO pays for the 2.5 mile extension to the gas line ? (How much $$ will THAT
cost ?Will it be Pulaski City Gas or will county be required to put its $$in ?) .
What 'tax relief' are local authorities (County and cities ) being asked to contribute ? For how long ?
What will be the required qualifications for the plant operators ....Are
those process skills available in Giles County?......or have they all been 'let' to friends and relatives already ?
Who will build-pay for the huge parking area for all the tourists? Will
county be required to pay to widen the roads (and re-inforce the bridges )
for tourist buses ?
Who gets to run the concession shop ?
Will the raw materials (primarily corn ?) be purchased locally ? Are local
products even suitable for the proposed process ?
Where will the water come from to support the processes ? Distilleries use
huge amounts of water -are the county's current pipelines large enough to
handle the increased flow (or will $$ enlargements be required ?)or will the
distillery have its own water well ?
How will run-off from the processes and the parking-lot sized facility be
handled -particularly during 5"-per hour rain-storms . Will the water be
re-cycled within the facility .
Statements have been made that this will be a one-shift operation .Mash fermentation, evaporation and distillation are best conducted as continuous
processes to achieve maximum efficiency .......how does this facility plan to overcome those process restraints ?

The City AND County could easily end up with several $million subsidies into
this operation for a scant 5 or 7 jobs . Those will be VERY expensive subsidies. There needs to be some VERY serious open discussion before
irreversible $$ commitments are made. It is easy to become enamoured but not
so easy to recoup.

9:50 Maybe we don't need any new factories or businesses in Giles County.

My first thought when I read Mr. Barrett's thread was, Why not put it by the big spring so much talk was about and is there a spring near this place.

9:33 You are a barrel of laughs, does anything Barrett post please you? You don't have to answer I know it's NO.

Great! We will now have two distilleries and a winery in Giles county. Maybe when they start to generate much needed tax relief for the citizens we could then become known as the "booze capital of TN" instead of an expensive retirement community especially since the multimillion $ Milky Way retirement project went belly up.

I dont think that 9-50 was questioning whether Giles Co needs jobs . The question surely is whether 5-7 jobs are worth the huge outlay the county and cities will get dragged into to support them.
It might be cheaper for them to hire 5 or 7 employees to sit outside the courthouse whittling and looking like a tourist attraction . Maybe the EDC should consider doing that rather than paying their director $100,000 a year plus benefits to achieve less effect?
I wonder-does this distillery proposal mean that Lynnville will start to pay their city's dues ($5,000 a year ?) to the County EDC ? Or will they still try to ride for free ?

In relation to the 9:50 post that I feel presented some pertinent questions. If any incentives were given for these businesses with 20 or so employees, and promises for road expansion why was Walmart Distribution turned away from Industrial park south and Frito Lay not worked with to enhance the Pulaski facility and add more employees than the new business will bring?

How many of us would have even known about this new industry except for his posting it, I still haven't heard anything on the radio and the newspaper won't be here till Wednesday. I dont read of any snide remarks being made in the above posts other than the one that suggests Speer should be put under oath. Also dont read anywhere where anyone is against any new jobs coming into Giles county, even one at a time. No one said they were against that, no one said they were aginst Mr. Barrett bringing us the news. In fact, its welcomed. Did read a couple of interesting comments though - does Lynnville pay its full portion to the EDC? And your statement about your commissioners aint exactly accurate. I know they started turning out at 2:30 because of Elkton and Minor High School students having to be bussed to Pulaski. This will make those two schools have to stay until 2:30, right? Those two school's teachers will have longer hours also than Pulaski and Richland which they already did.

To my knowledge, Commissioner Beech has missed at the most one meeting. Mr. Beech has held town hall style meetings in order to get input from 4th district residents. Few residents took advantage of this opportunity. These are meetings organized by him and not the county. It looks to me as if he's attended several meetings, in fact more than required. I'll give Beech credit where it's due. He's doing a fine job and will get my vote in the next election.

I'm not on the subject of this thread. I just read "Pulaski Citizen" and noticed they told of the Finical Management Office under scrutiny. There was an article about the gas line for the distillery. What was interesting to me was in The Danticleer by Dan Watson, "Insults rarely persuade and can make the insulter seem like a raving moron with nothing to say.
If sarcasm is all you've got then say nothing."
That made me think of this blog. When WAB starts a thread someone has their sarcasm and insults to come back with. Then it starts other with sarcasm and insults.

In a post on one of the threads I read one state no businesses want to come to Giles County because of the little group of troublemakers.

I thought that was an extremely ignorant post but more to the point is why when our largest employer in the county wants to expand it's operations here in Giles County and add much needed jobs it is turned away? Why can we run gas lines for a distillery to add a few jobs to the county but can not work with a long friend of the community, Frito Lay, to add many more jobs and insure they continue their operations in Giles County for many years to come instead of opening the door for them to be able to move their entire operation to Lincoln County?

Frito Lay has been a company that has been in Giles County all my life. It sponsored all types of sports teams for the youth of Giles County and has been a great benefit just by the number it employees.

Why is it that Lincoln County can work with Frito Lay to gain their expansion but Giles County can not? Maybe they have qualified individuals in place to develop industry where we have a psychology major and a person that only knew how to build sidewalks instead of helping develop industry the entire 20 years he was Mayor of Pulaski.

Why would Barrett want to destroy Eddie Bass? Now next time he runs if WAB thought he did something wrong he might try as you say destroy him.

I know Eddie and have nothing but good to say about him.

Who is Jeff Bain? I hope they both run, it's best to have competition.
I just hope EVERYONE can leave the sarcasm off.

I think Barrett should run. Many in the county are opening their eyes and are seeing that the ones calling him a troublemaker are the problem and not Barrett. You can only hide the wrong from the masses so long and that is truly the reason the little group that so hates Barrett continues to attack him at every turn.

Besides the alleged lie that Barrett supposedly told on the enabler can any one name one lie Barrett has stated and back it up with actual tangible proof.

I know there will be one ignorant person that will feel their opinion is proof but as mine nor any ones opinion is proof we need tangible proof. And claiming any faith as support that a statement is true is ignorant and silly.

Yes, let him run and get beat and humiliated a third time. Many in this county surely know who has caused so much trouble and cost to taxpayers. Yes, let him run.
The ONLY reason I ever brought up the fact that I am a Christian and a gentleman is because barrett told the lie that I willfully go along with wrongdoings. I think he was just angry because I disagree with most of his views and opinions. The reason I refer to myself as a gentleman is because you guys kept calling me a female. How many times do you need this explained to you?
My offer to you still stands. You stop attacking, and I will stop defending. Ok? How about it?

10:29 When did you give an opinion that Barret was wrong except when you say you are not an enabler? Did you ever say why you thought what Barrett said about Mrs. Vanzant was wrong, no you attacked Barrett.

I've never seen anyone exdept the Woodard boy, say why Barret's statement about Vanzant said was wrong. Does that mean Woodard and Barrett were the only one to know anything about the county government? The rest are just letting off steam?

I don't know if Barrett ran for county exc. he would win or not neither do you. But should that happen and he won would you leave Giles County?

I bitterly opposed barrett on the zoning issue. I also oppose him on the charter. I think my opposition to his views and opinions is why he started a lie on me that I go along with wrongdoings. And it continues to this very day.
I hope he will run for county executive. But my money will be on whoever runs against him. I hope it's Eddie Bass.

I have read many times where you have gone along with wrongdoing and you either say it's not true, you were misunderstood or you don't know enough about the situation to comment. You are either an uninformed fool or a plain liar and I don't think you are a fool just a foolish liar.
A simple question I've asked before was Garner right to dip into the hospital money, is it right to take over half a million out of the hospital money and a new question is it right for Strickland to be using the county truck for personal activities? You will either answer these questions as an enabler or a concerned citizen or a foolish jerk it's up to you.

That's simply not true. You have read many times the lie allen barrett told on here that I go along with wrongdoings. That was a lie when he told it and still is. Please stop promoting it. And I would appreciate it if you would refrain from calling me nasty names.
Was Mrs. Garner right to usehospital funds money. I'll tell you again. I DO NOT KNOW what happened there, so don't peromote the barrett lie that I go along with something wrong because of my not knowing. Ok?
Now, as for Mr. Strickland, I DO NOT KNOW how he uses the county vehicle. Why don't you go up to the courthouse and ask him about it? But I will say that he should be stopped if he is using the vehicle inappropriately. Does that satisfy you, or do you still want to argue and call me nasty names?
Again, the only enablers I see are those like you who keep promoting the lie that I go along with wrongdoings.

Why do you not know? Is it you choose to remain ignorant so you feel justified in never giving a straight answer?

Her statement admitting she was wrong in taking money out of the hospital fund but would do it again if she saw fit was readily available. The discussion of her actions at commission meetings is readily available. Would it not be better to be informed about a subject before making a statement that enables wrongdoing. After all if you don't know the facts and you defend an action is there not the chance you are defending wrongdoing through your continued statements of ignorance.

I choose not to be around troublemakers like you. That's for certain. I have a life other than this blog, and I count on our leaders to take care of the county. I think they do. It's just too bad that you see things differently and that you and the few others causing all this turmoil think yourselves so much smarter. You guys arrogantly think you ought to be in charge, but the fly in the ointment is the fact that most of you can't get elected. Thank God! Then you wonder why you people are so despised around here. Oh, don't take my word for that. Ask a few informal questions on your own. Keep your ears open, and you will find out for yourself.
Granted, Mrs. Garner may have said she would do it again if she had to. Well, I don't know all the circumstances surrounding or leading to that statement. Ok?
How can I make that any plainer for you? I sometimes think dealing with you is like talking to a locust post.
No, I am not defending, promoting or supporting wrongdoing. That is a lie allen barrett told on me. When will you accept that as well? He told a lie. Get over it.
I'm confident that he doesn't like to be reminded of that. Just because I don't agree with you guys or see things you way should not give you the right to cvall names and act like you have no manners whatsoever. Do you ever wonder why your little group is so despised arounf this county? All you have to do is ask a few people, and you will quickly find out.
It's hilarious that you have the nerve to call me a liar whern that is exactly what you are doing when you call me that.

Try to understand this. As long as people pay taxes, by law they are entitled to ask questions of any government officials even though those questions might make the elected ones squirm. If everything is done on the up and up why do those officials get so angry about the questions?

Unless you are prepared to buy someone's property at fair market value you need to get off telling people to leave the county.

Get it?

Got it. One doesn't need to hold a political science or economics degree to understand that. If mmemory serves me, the Constitution gives citizens the right to question government. I agree wholeheartedly. However, and with respect to our local government, I think you miss the point. You certainly have every right to question officials. We all do. But that does NOT entitle you guys to run around town calling them nasty names and doing your best to either humiliate or destroy them. You may be smarter (in your own minds) than those officials, but THEY are in charge. Get over it. The voters put them where they are. Got it?
Another point you seem to miss is that the so-called "squirming" our officials may be doing is not because they are corrupt (one of you guys' buzz words) and dishonest. No. I think it's because a small and contentious group of people in this county are trying to cause them as much trouble and grief as they possibly can. I also believe that has its roots in the jealous and resentful attitude of one individual who has gained a following in people just like you. It's unfortunate that you can't see that for yourself. Got it?
As for telling people to leave the county, you are again confused. I have never TOLD anyone to move. However, I have suggested that anyone not happy living here should consider it. I thought that was good advice for an unhappy person. Nobody should live where he's unhappy. Got it?

I didn't make any of the above post, but something I've been thinking of is..
I thought Mrs. Garner acted high and mighty just like the president with her comment, "I'll do it again."
Her way of going about it all is what I think is wrong. She should of went before the commissioners and asked before she used the hospital money.
Maybe she didn't know she was suppose to, but she came off as "I'm king and will do as I please and there is nothing anyone can do about it."

She plainly stated that she got permission from nobody. And would do exactly the same if she wanted to. So to the one who claims not to lie and says he/she is not an enabler yet refuses to take a stand on this issue. It is pretty cut and dried. Either Ms. Garner is a liar, or you are. Time to get off the fence or quit being offended by the name enabler. Your cop out of not knowing enough about the situation is just that, a cop out. Your back is against the wall, time to walk the walk. She said she did it. If you don't take a stand, the name of enabler and liar is appropriate for you. Surely you understand plain English.

The troublemakers are just not going to be satisfied with anything anyone says if it's something they don't want to hear. But there's an old saying that puts forth the idea that you can't argue with a person who knows more than you do to begin with. I am 2:58. You asked me what I want you to say. Don't ask me if you really don't want to know. And you did ask. I want you to get off the fence. Ms Garner has admitted numerous way on various media outlets that she broke the law. She confessed. If as you claim, you do not enable wrong doing, then why the word "if" in all of your statements. Is it because deep down, you didn't really mean you would seek justice from officials who have done wrong.Mr, B gave reasons why he believes you to be an enabler. Defend yourself logically and tell us why you anot. Can you do that. Let's try again, if you are not the liar: should Ms. G be severly reprimanded both for her actions and attitude which is basically insubordination. When you give your pat answer, man up and leave off the word, if. You said that you would speak out publicly. Can you walk the walk?

When you can show me that, I will say she needs to be punished for breaking the law. Until you can, you might as well stop trying to get me to agree with you when I don't have all the facts. Ok?
Your continual atttempt to get me to say "uncle" about this matter reminds me a lot of the people who were trying to trick Jesus over the marriage issue in Heaven.
No, I'm not enabling wrongdoing. That happens to be a lie allen barrett told on me, most likely because I disagreed with his opinions so many times. He just didn't realize that I would not lay down for it. Why should I?
