Statement From Commissioner Left Me Fully Puzzeled
During the Legislative Meeting today Commissioner Reedy made a very odd statement, at least to me. He stated that "we are adamant about cutting and saving, we have actually reduced taxes 3.2% by not raising (property)taxes but once during the last ten years."
This statement was made just minutes after restoring all the money for Mr Speer and only a week after the Legislative Body restored most of the funds that had previously been cut by the Budget Committee.
Now I ask you, are you paying less in property taxes now than ten years ago or even five years ago. With two excessively high reassessments during that time the county has actually increased the amount of property taxes owed. Personally during those years my property taxes have increased over 26% while my real property value has decreased.

One day, when this county decides that we should pay commissioners more money, and that we should have fewer commissioners, then maybe we will get qualified representation????
Has Mr. Reedy forgotten that during the past 10 years the County has blown, spent, squandered and lost the $6,500,000.00 that was the General Fund reserve balance?????? Has he also forgotten that the County is now depleating the $15,000,000.00 Hospital Fund?????
No wonder the County has not raised the property tax rate. They have stolen from the reserve and "not to be touched" funds.
Now Mr. Reedy how much waste is in this year's budget????
You and Charles Greene worked very hard to balance the budget and place Giles County in financial solvancy. What happened???? Why are you anti saving and now supporting over spending?????

If you people, CAVE or not, think that any of these commissioners are doing a good job, then you have got another think coming. Mr Reedy is a good man. He is a terrible commissioner. I'm sure that some people think that Mrs. Vanzant is a good woman, but she is a terrible county executive.
I am the one who posted at 4:40 and Mr. Reedy is one of my commissioners. He is a very good man and has been a very good and thoughfull commissioner.
Therefore it is totally amazing to me that he has changed his position and thoughts regarding wastfull spending.
And, why did Tommy Pollard give a fine speech against funding Dan Speer then folded?????
He talks very big but is a wimp when it comes to standing up for what he knows is correct.
Thank you Mr. Reedy and Mr. Pollard for doing the right thing and working to improve this county.
Pollard is a puppet of Howell and Barrett! She reminds me of when John White tried to take over the commission! How quickly he was sent home BY THE VOTERS!

Sounds like someone doesn't like a couple of commissioners in their district....wonder if you get acused of te same things they accuse mr Barrett of about the 7th?....I doubt it.

If we had more Commissioners that had the guts of Mrs. Howell, we may be in better financial position than we currenty are.
Connie Howell is probally the best cpmmissioner in Giles County. We in her District appreciate her and Tommy Pollard, Tommy got side tracked on the Charter issue by someone but we all make a mistake from time to time. We also rate Tommy very high. The other one, well that's another story. Connie and Tommy have a common sense approach to the issues and that is lacking in many other commissioners. We appreciate you.
Since when is breaking a state law, considered common sense?
Maybe the charter would have insured commissioners could at least read (and understand) and write.
You all must be thinking of another Connie Howell. The one I have watched at meetings is clueless. More commissioners like her would equal a bunch of people in a room with blank stares on their faces.
I would suspect the people that follow Barrett to support her due to her being in his back pocket.

I can't think of a single commissioner that completes their role with common sense, discipline, understanding and lack of bias. They are all undereducated and petty. This especially includes Connie Howell and Tommy Pollard.

See I am a ghost journalist for a really important publication on the internet. I write so much I mess up sometimes but usually my high dollar editors catch my mistakes.

Education comes in many forms, and it is virtually a requirement to do a job correctly.
Having three commissioners each coming from seven districts is a recipe for having poor representation. That is exactly what we have!
No not having enough sense to read a budget much less make of reflects on ones education not having the integrity to stand firm in ones beliefs is the result of having no character being content with no education and no integrity is just fool-hearty.
My reaction to Commissioner Reedy's comments are not and have nothing to do with my personal feeling toward him. I consider Commissioner Reedy as one of the finest men in this county who has proven his worth many times over in his work, family, and faith. I consider him a valued friend.
One of the problems many have is the idea that you can't disagree with one another without being mortal enemies. As most Commissioners know and as they act, what is said in discussions of different matters is not necessarily a reflection of their feelings for each other outside that discussion. I have a friend that I disagree with very often but we have no problem in sitting down and talking with each other and praying for each other. My own brother, for many years, was a brain dead liberal that could not say three words without starting an argument but I love him as much as life itself. I thank God his brain grew and he has become more conservative over the years.
So while I may disagree with Mr Reedy, and some others for that matter, I do not appreciate those who would attempt to turn those moments of disagreements into personal animosity.
Well Mr. Barrett you should find a better way to express yourself than behind a blog that allows anonymous entries. Keep in mind YOU started it! If your opinion develops into something more than you expected! Live with it or shut the hell up! You are whining now! My favorite line... "what goes around comes around"!
Then Barrett you need to find a way to express your opinion without the name calling. Even when I agree with you I cannot take you seriously because you have to resort to calling someone you with whom you disagree a name. That to me just shows how inarticulate one is.

If I was treated the way he has been treated there would have been blood on the floor, but so far at least he has maintained his composure very well under difficult circumstances, far better than many of those who tangled with him.

I could show you one from every week for years on here, but I have neither the time nor desire to go through them again. Scroll through any thread on here though and if you see his picture then more likely than not he has called someone a name when he runs out of arguments.

And I see in the paper that we've held the wastewater plant that could've been completed 2 years ago if they wanted to hostage and the Magnetti plant as well as a reason for restoring te EDC money because we didn't want to lose "grants"......( as stated in the paper this week). Wonder if anyone bothered or was presented with facts as to how we would lose grants for lesser funding? Can't see us losing a grant because we didn't fund EDCs cellphone and country club membership.

I live in town in the 6th district and I get real upset when one of my commissioners passes. I wondering why the 7TH District voters not getting up a petition requesting Terry Harwell step down. They are not get true representation as the other districts are. Mr. Harwell has to abstain from voting on just about every thing that comes up. Maybe he will step down and let Bill Holt have his place on the Commission. At least Bill can vote.

Is Harwell even educated enough to have the position in the financial management office? I have never seen any proof he even has a high school education and is in a position that needs an accountant. In my opinion he needs to be completely off the tax payers tit.

Then Harwell should act responsibly instead of like an uneducated idiot. He should not run citizens down, and he should represent the citizens in his district properly instead of padding his pockets with tax payer dollars in a position that he should have never been hired for in the first place. He took an oath when he took his seat in office. Apparently he can't read or he or has a problem with understanding the English language because he certainly showed by his actions his oath of office means nothing to him.

7:26 were any of the other commissioners hired into the financial management office? If all county employees are to have minimum education requirements don't you think that an employee in the office responsible for tracking every dollar spent, as well as payroll responsibilities, insuring insurance premiums are deducted correctly from paychecks as well as actually forwarded to the proper carriers, billing, calculating equipment and asset purchasing, calculating depreciation of equipment buildings and other assets, etc., should have more than the minimum education requirements. It was stated by Harwell that he only had a surveyors degree when questioned about his education when he ran for tax assessor. So I would like to know if he finished high school or has a GED. But it seems you can not get a straight answer with out a court order. In the paper when Loretta Harwell Garner felt she needed to justify to the people why Terry was hired I did not see one statement regarding his education. it is also funny that after he entered that office the teachers insurance premiums were taken from their checks but never forwarded to the carriers for 3 months. There were also many reports of people complaining that when they called the office many were stating that it was not their job. So is Harwell even qualified to have that position? Is he even qualified to have any position that the minimum requirements are a high school education or GED. It's not a hard question unless the answer is he does not.
