Why is Money Wasted On A Special Called Meeting?
Why is money being wasted on a special called Legislative Meeting when a regular scheduled meeting is scheduled for just one week later?
Monday a called meeting of Commissioners to vote on a budget has been called. This will cost over $600.00 in cash and an unknown amount of man-hours.
The question is, what is so pressing that could not be managed at the regular scheduled meeting just one week later? A budget vote could be held until the later meeting and more time could be available for people to study the budget and make wiser un-rushed decisions. In that week a budget could be posted on the county website, in that week commissioners could seek better answers to questions like why are they supporting the aggrandizement of Dan Speer; why is so much money been increased for salaries if no one is getting raises; why has the administration cost at the school system and the county executives office gone up?
Is this just another way to prevent discussion of the budget by those voting on it and those being directly affected by it?

I believe you may have answered your own question, Mr.B. The more of a rush they are in, the less consideration they can put into their decisions.
I can see no other reason to go to the expense of calling what amounts to an emergency meeting, when there is no emergency.

It is all about power and control. Vanzant insists upon having total and complete authority and does not want any commissioner to become a self-think individual.
Last year at the last minute Mrs Vanzant declared that the budget had to be passed before 1 August or the Ambulance service would stop running, employees would not be paid the rescue squad would not answer call etc, etc, etc even though she was well aware that a continuing budget could have been passed just as it was this year and there is no reason why the budget has to be approved on 10 September instead of a week later.
It's bad enough that some commissioners don't understand the budget, it's even worse that they are pushed to vote before it is even fully discussed
Why is it such a bad thing to allow the public to speak at a public hearing without giving a five day notice? Isn't the idea to have citizens involved with their government, or is it?

The reason is clear, and you of ll people should know. It's to prevent chaos and disruptions. If you have anything you want addressed, why don't you call your commissioners? They are Terry Harwell, Vicki Coleman, and Tommy Campbell. Isn't that the way our government is set up?
No 8:34 our government is not set up that way. A public hearing is just that a meeting where the public can be heard. The state requires that a public meeting be held before the budget is adopted, we had to fight long and hard just to get Mrs Vanzant to simply comply with that requirement. Her way of obstructing that right has been to set arbitrary and unrealistic requirements to speak, and then instruct those on the panel to not respond to any questions but rather sit silent.
Now please tell us all how allowing members of the public to speak for three minutes would create chaos and disruptions. It hasn't before, and to suggest that the public can not be trusted to act responsibly is not only condescending it's insulting. With the overabundance of security why would that be a concern?
Call my commissioners are you kidding, two of them are so glued to Mrs Vanzant they can't move their heads unless she twists hers.
A think Mrs Coleman is trying but like a few other commissioners is simply in over her head.

I would disagree with you. In my opinion, the District 7 commissioners are doing a good job for our county. That opinion is just as important as yours. And how dare you to assume that Mrs. Coleman is in over her head! What an incredible insult you just gave her.
Here's my OPINION about your attitude toward those commissioners. They each hold a job you so desperately want. Well, the people have spoken loud and clear when they elected them and not you. Ok?

I have spoken with Vickie a number of times and she has stated on several occasions that she just don't understand the whole budget thing and
the way things work in this county.
Mrs Coleman has admitted to me on several occasions that she is totally clueless about the budget and how it is created. She looks to Mr. Campbell for guidance.

These people are not going to give you their names. But it is a shame that they just keep on and on and on trying to cause trouble. Have you ever noticed that the attacks seem to be primarily against Tommy Campbell, Terry Harwell, and Mrs. Coleman? It's just a rotten shame.
