Bias In Local Reporting?

It seems that the Tennessee regulatory Board recently sent out a press release to all the news media in the state. This report identified businesses that were found in violation of state rules and regulations or laws.
WKSR appropriately posted some of those companies mostly those in other counties but one in Giles County, a business that failed to get a business license was fined $250.00. What was significantly left out of WKSR's report was the fact that Commissioner Tommy Campbell, doing business as a surveyor, was find $2,000.00 for unspecified violations.

Was this just an oversight or could it be that an attempt to protect yet another commissioner from public scrutiny? The only way it could have been an innocent mistake it seems would have been for the station personnel to have failed to read the release, but if they failed to read the press release how did they manage to identify the other violators?

When will the news be reported fully and without reservation for those favored in political positions?

It seems that Mr. Campbell was fined for violations of the Tennessee Standards of Practice as reported in the State Board diciplinary action report, September 2012

Question is why wasn't that reported went the other less "important" people were reported on, it was all in the same press release?

I guess WKSR would be like the mainstream media? Why would they not report Campbell's fine? This country needs real "reporters" and/or "journalists" to cover the news. We have freedoms here in America that real reporters and journalists die for every day in other countries. We cannot put the truth out there unless it has a "spin" to it. Shameful.

Then how do you explains 1:09's post 1:11. Looks like the greatest bias is against Barrett.
Can you explain why the other people was put on the radio but not Campbell?
I think Barrett is doing a real service for the people and that's what makes you and a few others in big positions hate him so much.

1:51 you hit the nail right on the head. All Barrett is doing is providing information that the local news paper fails to deliver. He just shows the corruption in Giles county. It just backs up a state wide survey over a year ago where Giles county was voted the number one corrupt county in the state.

To be fined by the State of Tennessee you have to have comitted a pretty good violation of their rules. Most time the State issues a warning; multiple warnings then may involve a fine. Most fines are in the $100 - $500 range. Some fines are as much as $1,500; but a $2,000 fine is unusual. I am guessing that this fine is the maximum, or near the maximum, that the State will impose without revoking a license.

For all those complaining about Barrett and this blog if you don't like it don't read it if you can't resist reading it then ask yourself if what you are reading is true, if it's not ignore it if it is then you have a responsiblity to do something about it. Sitting silent while county crumbles is a stupid option.

While the poster wrote that others should be ashamed for what the writer considered shameful behavior the writer revealed the depth of their intelligence and lack of a comprehensive argument, lacking such fundamental attributes of an intelligent person they reverted to the vile obnoxious speech of a gutter rat. It seems to be business as usual for Mr. Campbell. Drop off his wife at work. Eat breakfast at the Blue Bird, inform Mrs. Vanzant what is going on and how to handle it. Do whatever in his office. Eat lunch at the Blue Bird. Have afternoon session with the County Executive and telll her what to do. Pick wife up from work.

I am still concerned by the original topic here that the local media is biased in its reporting. The big question is why would they print and report part of the list of those receiving finds from the state but leave off the one who received the biggest fine by far? Since this came out I have learned that there are some who get special treatment like driving impaired but instead of being charged they get a free ride home and nothing is ever shown on their record. I saw how slow the scandal at Richland was reported then quickly dropped.
I am, also very curious why there has been hardly anything about the hospital money being spent and the thief of money by the director of special education that was revealed on this blog and in the audit not to mention the grand scale corruption in the Emergency Management office.

While I've come to expect what I consider to be a conscious bias in reporting Giles County news, especially when it involves locals who are considered friends or people of importance. One example would be the poor little rich girl hanging with her buds behind McDonalds and wrecked her car while doing spin outs and donuts in the old Red Food parking lot. Not only did she put a number of other people's lives in danger, this appears to be an activity that takes place on a rather regular basis. Stupid dangerous stunts in cars may very well end the life of someone before this is reported in the local media.
Now while the local media seems to have taken to censoring news about "important" locals they are willing to report about such things as a woman who embezzled money from the Fairview Soccer League. The question is which is more important
to the people of Giles County, to know the details about a woman in Fairview who stole money from a soccer league or to know the details about a woman here who stole money from our local school system or the details about the massive amount of tax money that went through the Emergency Management Office last year and how employees were allowed to back date time cards to cover taking that money.

I noticed that Queen Anne got a 1,000 dollar fine but still nothing about the 2,000 dollar fine to Commissioner Campbell. Would a 2,000 dollar fine not indicate a worse violation than a 1,000 dollar fine?

Not one word has come from me about the identity of who had the wreck yet in your rant against me you have done more to identify a person
involved than all the posts on this thread combined.
I don't even know which sister in law you refer to much less who any of their "bosses" might be. Obviously you don't know my sister in laws or you would never describe them as having "bosses". They may have supervisors or employers but never a "boss".
As for employment concerns if you know my family you would know that each member stands on their own individual merits and accomplishments and have no involvement with my views or political activities.
You need to grow up and control your childish envy.

So 8:50 you see nothing wrong with a child taking a powerful automobile and racing through a parking lot with other cars, doing burn outs and donuts and spin outs and car surfing?
You have no problem with an immature person endangering their life and the lives of others.
How would you feel with a policeman standing on your porch telling you that your child is at the morgue as a result of having lost control of their car while showing off to other kids?
I would also remind you that I attacked no one, did not identify anyone nor describe the person other than to say they were a female. My point was to show how biased the reporting is by the local media and to bring focus on a very dangerous activity.
I wonder would you be taking the same attitude were it someone else that revealed this problem or what would your attitude be had I reported that a group of kids were hanging out at the park and using drugs?
I can tell you one thing, based on the tweets from this person they certainly have no remorse about this event and thus it seems they have made a sucker out of their parents.

Attacking Barrett or anyone else instead of looking at the real problem will just allow the problem to get worse.
I have to agree with Barrett on the matter of being told your child is at the morgue, that is news no parent ever wants to hear but it is heard all to often and many times it's because the parents failed to control those kids.
