What's Happening With The "Investigation" into the 9-1-1 office.
It's been over two months now since charges of inappropriate conduct, abuse by an authority figure, sexual harassment by an authority figure, sexual misconduct and the creation of a hostile work enviroment had been created. People have claimed they were fired for refusing sexual advances and for not helping to cover up misconduct by others.
When I raised this question at the E 9-1-1 Board Meeting I was told after a long silence that the matter was under investigation. In the room at the time were representatives from the local media but there has been nothing in the local media about the issue. I'm sure this would not be a matter that anyone would not want fully covered and the facts exposed for the good of all involved. I understand that the attorney assigned the task to investigate has completed his assignment but still no word of any findings.

The employee's of 911 deserve better than this.It is very disappointing that the board members are handling this the way it is being done,leaving it up to their attorney is a coward's way out, they should act and take care of this themself's as Maury County board did.
It is time the outrageous behavior of some at the E 9-1-1 Board be stopped.
I know the person who wrote the first comment and it took a great deal of courage to do what she and the others have done.
This is just a long line of offenses taking place or having taken place in this county that just gets covered up even when the case is settled in court.
Until the news media takes an active investigative role this kind of stuff will continue. It is the same basic thing that is happening with the national media protecting the federal government.
The people of Giles County deserve better than this.
You get better news coverage in the Columbia newspaper about Giles County than the Citizen. Why not try them?
Can they take farther than the Giles county?
They have to go beyond Giles County because they went to Mrs Vanzant who dismissed and ignored the problem as usual.
Our hearts were greatly saddened by the loss of a good friend of our county, Clay McAlister. He was widely known and loved as evidence by the huge crowd that turned out to pay their respects. In spite of the way he was treated by less than a handful of people, he was loved. May God bless the family.

I thought sexual harssment was against the law. Does Giles
County not have go by any laws. I heard one time a few years ago, "if you want to commit murder do it in Giles coumty."
I didn't like that comment, now I'm wondering about it. I still believe if there was something our sheriff could do about it he would.
That is not true. My relatives had nothing to do with this call.I did not take the call nor did I warn anyone.The persons name was given over the radio after it was delayed.I have seen calls that came through 911 posted on face book but I guess thats ok. I was terminated because I exposed the truth and I was sick and tired of watching people being mistreated.I and others did the right moral thing and we have suffered. I feel sorry for those who love power and money more than the well being of others. When thing are going on like this we should not turn a blind eye just because doing the right thing will cause us pain. This is not the first time that the management of the 911 office has been questioned. In 2003 an investigation was held by a panel appointed by the County Executive, employees questioned, report submitted and ignored by Mrs. Vanzant. Her opinion was that the 911 employees were disgruntled and that management was just fine.
The problem is sitting in the County Executive's office.
She has allowed or caused numerous lawsuits and legal problems. She is not a leader in incense of the word.
If there is any type of harrassment going on in the county government, and it is not properly addressed, JVZ is setting herself up for supreme failure.
If this is happening, it should come to light.

But from your report if you compare the recent years data you will see Mississippi has become less corrupt while Tennessee tops the list in corruption.
People can look around right here in Pulaski and see how corrupt Tennessee is. You don't need to trust anyone's study to verify this. All you have to do is open your eyes and stop enabling the ones who abuse their power. If we did not have so much of that behavior Giles County might clean up its act.

The director of 911 has a history of inappropriate relations. He had a turbulent relationship with a dispatcher that ended in a domestic and she was fired. It is a disgrace to Giles County. What I can not figure out is its all public knowledge and everyone is ok with it. Lets talk about conflict of interest

I asked for equal treatment for 5 years not just for myself but others.The rules are different for everyone.I do not blame anyone except the people at 911 and they know who they are. I use to get a call when there was a storm in our area. Now I don't anyone now why? Anyone not getting the calls? I've heard some people still get the call.

So we have a handful of rascals shamelessly treating our good county employees like crap, county supervisors too incompetent to effectively resolve personnel issues, elected officials too damned cowardly to confront the "friends" they hired as supervisors, and a lily-livered newspaper that refuses to do the job of journalism. Our amateurish ways would be comedic if it weren't for good people getting hurt in the process. The voters are schizophrenic for hiring the same mob of dysfunctional illiterates time after time after time, then expecting justice for a harassed employee. It ain't gonna - not without a lawsuit or TBI investigation.

There is no good reason why the supervisor at 9-1-1 should still be in his job. The charges are too great and the witnesses are too many. At the very least he should have been put on leave until the investigation was completed and therefore prevented from terrorizing some of the workers.
There will be a Board meeting Tuesday at 9AM in the Courthouse Annex basement (Suntrust Bldg).
I urge everyone to attend this meeting and seek, demand if necessary, answers about this embarrassingly tragic and illegal activity and why those in change have ignored the situation uneven sought to cover it up and blame the victims.

Thank you for your kind words.I believe we go through things for a reason so I thank God for the good and bad the experience made me wiser.Though when I first left I almost understood PTSD.Since I left I have been blessed to find employment and spend time with my family.I do not have to go to work with knots in my stomach wondering what will happen and witness others being mistreated. I loved my job and I had the honor of working with other agencies and helping those in need so for that I am grateful. I refused to let anger lead me and I refused to be a victim. I just pray that others will reap the reward of some of us not allowing these acts to go unnoticed. Thank you again for your kind words.
If those in charge would put half as much energy into solving this problem as they do in covering it up there would be no problem. These women appear to have been treated like objects to be toyed with instead of humans to be respected and honored for the work they do. Leaving the director in his position during the "investigation" has done nothing but put others in terrible positions. How can people be expected to openly speak about the problems when the director seems to be the problem and is looking over your shoulder holding the power to threaten and terminate you.
This situation is an outrage of abuse.

PTSD has to do with any stressful situation which leaves one traumatized after the fact. Sexual harassment is certainly a traumatic experience. Apparently to some it is to be laughed at and argued as insignificant. What trash we are breeding in Giles County.

I assure you I am very aware of what PTSD is and the symptoms. I am sorry you read my post wrong but I have suffered as well as my family . Just so you will know I have a brother still in active service who has served our country in 3 tours of duty,his son would of been a combat medic but he was killed in 2011 both of my grandfathers served one in the navy one in the army.My father was a Veteran. I have nothing but respect for our military.I never did nor would I compare what I have been through to what they suffered but I will tell you this I did suffer trauma and abuse by some at 911. I just wonder how you would of felt if it had been your wife mother sister daughter? People dont seem to care that when you hurt others you hurt their families . our family loves each other and we are that way. I was at the meeting this morning and Janet treated him like crap. I don't know how the man managed to keep from smacking her when she called him a liar and denied she was ever told about any problems at the 911 office.

Is it just me or do these comments seem a little one-sided? Everyone for just a moment take into consideration that every situation has at least two sides. What if?? What if this Ms. Holley is a disgruntled employee with an ax to grind, what if she had no business working at the E911 center in the first place? What if she was completely inadequate and incompetent and couldn't perform the job at the level it should be performed? What if she mishandled calls, more than once, and was given every opportunity for improvement and to correct her behavior and refused?? Then now, how should this situation be handled?? In one word, FIRED! Would you want her handling your emergency situation??
If we are going to demand that jobs be taken away on the basis of alleged inappropriate behavior in the work place, we better get ready for a countywide restructuring. And, yes, alleged, as far as anyone is concerned none of this is true until proven otherwise. It's a sad day when we let frivolous accusations determine whether or not someone can provide for their households.
I am sure if anyone wants this situation to be cleared up its the current employees of the E911 center. The people there who strive to do their best and work hard for the county that employs them, they strive to be an asset instead of a liability. Employees who take pride in a job well-done. Lets not forget about them. If they had an opportunity to voice their feelings I am sure they would give, and have given, a much different account than that of Ms Holleys.
As for the PTSD, give me a break. This term is being thrown around very loosely and disrespectfully. I don't care if you had family who served in every branch in every war you have no idea what that's like. 6:54 not even a good try at smearing Mrs Holly. She has worked at 911 over ten years and never had a bad evaluation until she refused to go blind to the things happening at the 911 office.
Others have reported the same problems but they always fall on deaf ears. Vanzant has known for more than a year about the problems at 911 but chose to ignore the situation. People have been fired before hell they even had to call the police to come over there and stop Goode from beating up his girlfriend in a drunken brawl.
If a per on can't do their job they need to be fired just like when a person proves they can't be trusted in a position of authority they need to be fired, it's time for Goode to be fired.
Could someone explain why an attorney has to investigate this case.The Board is made up of Department Heads that handle all types of inappropriate misconduct in employees every day. Two are highly trained law enforcement investigators.The local and state communication district bylaws give the board autority to hire and fire the 911 Director as they see fit.Seems like having an attorney investigate is a way to keep everything a secret
Exactly 8:21 the attorney works for the board so how different is it for a board member to investigate and having their attorney investigate for them other than about 5,000 in attorney fees. The result will be the same. There's got to be someone from the outside to investigate.

This is the last post I will post.I read the article in the paper and I am very trouble about the fact that Mr Griggs appears to be getting the blame for not following procedure.That simply is not true.He is the only one that did listen and act.Mrs.Vanzant was aware of issues at 911 years ago and they have continued and are continuing still to this day.Mr Griggs is a caring kind man who did what he was told to do by his superior. If I have insulted him in any way I did not intend to do so.There are two people I hold accountable the director and county commissioner.No one else. I will not make another post until all these matters have been resolved but me being the trouble maker that I am could not let a gentleman like Mr.Griggs take the blame.

So Vanzant knew about this situation for a long time.
I agree that Roy is a kind and caring man but I also have to agree with what Barrett wrote that he just isn't cut out to be a supervisor and this shows it. A strong eager does what is right not what they are told when they know it's wrong.
Did I not read where Vanzant told Barrett she didn't know about this before. Did I not read where Tonya said she told Mrs. Vanzant.
Who's lying?
Vanzant knew of problems with the E-911 Office for the past eleven years. She and Dan Speer had an investigation conducted and Bill Potts was removed as E-911 director. Then a new director was hired from Maury County and he quit after two days. Then Mike Goode was appointed by Vanzant. Since then complaints have been sent to the County Executive's office and promptly ignored. She believes that if you wait out the complainers long enough then the matter will be forgotten. The E-911 Office is a stand alone entity and is basically not answerable to any authority in Giles County. This office does have some oversight by the Tennessee Emergency Communications Board. But, that Board does not like to get in the middle of local issues. If Mr. Goode has done something unlawful; then the best route would to bring the issue before a Grand Jury.
Vanzant will not do anything, the County Commission cannot do anything. Our local E-911 Board can fire Goode. But if he needs to go to trial, then you have to have an indictment. Again I suggest a Grand Jury investigation.
What is the current status of the "investigation"?

Mrs. Vanzant pronounced those allegation false.
Would you expect anything less from or honorable County Executive? She has lied for so long that she truly believes she is speaking the truth.
She is covering up for Mike Goode and is hoping that all of us will forget; thereby allowing this matter to dissolve away and disappear.
Vanzant appointed Mike Goode, Barry Whitt and Roy Griggs. Roy is the only one of the three that is honorable. I commend Chief Dickey and I hope that he will keep this matter open until the real truth is known.
If Goode has done anything inappropriate or illegal; then an indictment needs to be filed with the DA or State, wherever is appropriate.
The E-911 employees who are bring this matter to light need to be commended for their courage.
Oh Yeah someone is lying, and has been lying from the beginning. This case is going no where because someone can't get there story straight. This will soon implode and it will come out that all these allegations are FALSE.

I'm saying these allegations are false, claiming discrimination because she's female when most of the 911 employees ARE female is just mindless. She messed up and got caught period. She's trying to make everyone else pay for her mistakes instead of owning them and admitting she was wrong. If she was so serious about this she would have an attorney, does she? Word is she doesn't. Word is the paper won't print her story because she's telling two totally different stories. So......

Nothing new on the 911. How long does it take to look into anything?
The longer the better. This is what Vanzant has been waiting for. The longer it takes, people will forget about the entire issue and will finally say "To HELL with it".
This needs to be cleared up one way or another.

Vanzant does not want any more hearings, investigations, questioning, or any one poking their nose into Mike Goode's actions.
She knows that time will allow all to forget or give up. With the apathy in this County she knows that all will be forgotten with time. Therefore nothing occurred and nothing wrong was committed.
I would love to see this issues presented to an independent Grand Jury and let them sort out the truth.
I noticed Barrett posted this thread over a month ago and nothing has been done.

Once an official convinces the public that what they know as the truth is actually a lie, it's all downhill from there. Many politicians adhere to the belief that all they have to do is repeat a lie over and over and eventually it is taken as gospel. Unfortunately, they are successful in this tactic more times than not. What does that say about the complacency of the average voter?

Goode is guilty or Goode is not guilty; only he knows the absolute truth and the average citizen will never know. That is the way Vanzant wants it and that is the way it will be.

What does that say about Giles County?
This says a lot about those who are in charge and do not want the average citizen to know the truth. If Vanzant wanted to end all speculation she would get on WKSR and announce the guilt or innocence of Goode. But, she does not have guts to do this nor does she have the willingness to go public and do what is right for all Giles County. She rather sit in her office, pout and hope that we will soon forget what has been done.
This looks bad on Giles County by not ending this.
If Goode did it, that's not Vanzant's fault, but it is her fault not ending it.
If Goode is innocent this is looking bad for him. If he's guilty he needs to be fired.
If Goode is guilty can the county be sued?

Seems like there has been something else in Giles county that has been very slow about getting anything done about it.

A director that is not honest bullies can not manage money goes beyond the meaning of misconduct treats people with disrespect mistreats women maybe he will leave 911 be the next county exec.
I would like for the one accusing Goode to speak up and tell us if she got paid off or she is still upset because nothing has been done about it.
I would like to know why we the citizens do not ask questions to the board members. Why we slander anyone who comes forward and then wonder why no one else does speak up.Stop attacking Mr Barrett for educating us on what is going on and find out for ourselves . SHOW up and the next 911 board meeting and ask them what happened.We may find out what is going on there .
This investigation went absolutely nowhere. One of the accused is still getting away with things at 911 and being allowed to mistreat other employees. She is a liability to the center, the officers and the citizens of Giles County. What is it going to take for someone to open their eyes and see this?
