Why Hire A Part Time Attorney When You Can Get A Full Time Attorney With More Experience?
The County Legislative Body will meet on Monday and part of what they will do is hire a new County Attorney to replace Mrs Henson.
There is only one person who has applied for the job that is willing to make it his full time focus and has the experience without the political obligations to serve the county.
Attorneys who are too closely involved in the political and family intricacies of personal enhancement will not be able to serve the county with fairness and professionalism. This is especially true when the attorney has a very checkered history of legal problems of their own.
It is my understanding that Assistant DA Dunnavant, will if chosen, retire from the DA's office and devote his full attention to the duties of County Attorney. This would be a great improvement over a part time county attorney who is unable to attend many meetings and require the hiring of additional attorneys to help from time to time.
I can only hope for the county's sake that the Legislative Body will do the right thing and ignore the heavy lobbying that has been done and appoint the best attorney for the county not the most connected.

Williams has so many problems of his own how could he even be part time for the county. What happened to him in Larwenceburg. I read on here where Mr. Barrett said that Williams, Vickie Harwell's son, that Williams was paid by the county to represent a private citizen then was paid under the table so commissioners wouldn't know. If this is true we don't need him.

Mr. Williams also lives in JP's house rent-free, besides his alcoholism, he is by far the best of that spawn, which isn't saying much compared to Kristi and Katie
If we could just get it through our thick skulls ... we need to hire & elect the best qualified candidates, putting all family connections aside. It doesn't matter how sweet or how foolhardy their mama was. What matters is the most qualified individual & their demonstrated character. When we start doing that Giles County will move forward. Based on recent election results I'm not optimistic.

When Barrett posted in July about this matter of abuse at the 911 office he said that Tim Underwood was the attorney doing the investigation.
Nobody wanted to believe this was happening and according to Barrett at that time both the newspaper and radio reporters were at the meeting and did not report on the topic even being brought up at the 911 board meeting.
I think everybody ought to be at the Board meeting on Tuesday at 9am when the board meets in the sun trust basement meeting room. If everybody demands an answer we will get it if Barrett is there along again they will just walk past the whole matter. We the people have to decide what kind of people we want representing us.

I'm not sure why that is such a good idea. There were several choices that were better than Richard. Just because he "said" that he would resign as assistant DA does not make him the right choice. The naivety of the commission never fails to amaze me.

I understand that Richard Dunnavant is brilliant. I also understand that he is not a perfect man. Of course, none of us are perfect. I do pray that God grants him wisdom. He will need it.
If a person determines to simply follow the law rather than to do what's convenient and personally beneficial there will be a great advance made in the county. I supported Mr. Dunnivant believing that he will be a person who follows the law over the conniving that has been prevalent over the past number of years.
He has shown himself to be a fair and conscientious person in the past. Perhaps he will decide those traits aren't out of style. I sure hope so.

I am thrilled to learn that Richard Dunnavant is our county attorney. He has represented me & his efforts to prove me innocent SAVED my life!!! He is the only professional I have ever known that takes "no bodies" like me and gives 100% effort to help them just as if they were amoung the rich set. Thank you commissioners. Giles county is going to really benifit from his hard work.

Yes, I supported Mr. Dunnavant for the position of County Attorney. There were other good candidates who sought that position but they were each seeking it as a part time position. Mr. Dunnavant had stated that he would devote full time to the job.
To me it was the same as choosing a roofer you have three highly qualified roofers willing to replace my roof so the question comes down to when can you start and when will you finish.
One says I'll work you in when I have time, another says I'll start but can't promise an end date and the third says I guarantee to start tomorrow and finish tomorrow. So which would you choose?

The Harwells are democrats, but they tried to get other Democrats to vote for Chip Richardson and there's Dunnavant who is a "dyed in the wool" Yellow Dog democrat. Terry Harwell - I always liked Terry, played softball with him enjoyed being around him. Then he changed, more and more influenced by Vicki who seems power hungry for all the wrong reasons. When Terry used his position and votes on the Commission to get a county job then violate state law continually by voting on budgetary items and being paid twice by the county for the same hours that just could not be supported. Then his behavior at the Chili Cook off which showed him to be a homophobic user of hate speech and his arrogant challenge for the man he had just assaulted to do something about it since he was a county commissioner was simply despicable.
Vickie Harwell - I worked successfully with Vicki on a couple of different projects. As I already stated I believe she is “power hungry for all the wrong reasons” and has proven to be one of the most backstabbing, liars I have known. Her disregard for the truth could be no better displayed than in the false and malicious police report she filed about the chili cook off incident.
Janet Vanzant - A likable but untrustworthy person who is in way over her head and deals with those inadequacies with lies, deceit, vindictiveness and threats. I believe she has not only stymied growth in the county but has moved it backward.

Vickie Coleman - I believe was pushed into a position she was not qualified for and has proven to be totally incompetent in. She lied under oath, failed to submit truthful paperwork to the state and has been less than honest in her attendance at county meetings. An example of her competency was shown in her testimony under oath when she stated she “thought there was nothing wrong in voting twice if you was registered in different counties”. Tommy Campbell - another likable person but is stuck in the past. Twenty years on the commission and what are his accomplishments. He has shown one consistency and that is more taxes are the answer to almost every question.
Shelly Goolsby - Nice lady, very friendly and likable. My problem if there is one is too many conflicts of interest and too naive to be a commissioner.
David Rackley - I believe him to be an arrogant immature potential punk, not yet qualified to be a real punk but trying hard. Very deceitful posing as a republican while supporting democrats for election. Used his office to aggressively supported Ty Cobb while serving as an election official.
Joe Henry - I don’t know how he got on your list, I have always had a great deal of respect for him, find him very likable and consider him a friend.
Kathy Bassham - A very nice, likable lady who is mostly efficient in her job but is also somewhat deceitful based on her testimony under oath,
Barry Whitt - Have never had a problem with Mr. Whitt. We have disagreed on some issues but have always found him easy to talk with and respectful.
Jerry Bryant - A very likable person that I simply believe he is not qualified, based on his actions at PES, and the School Board, to be a leader and represent the best interest of fellow citizens.
Chris Williams - No problem there, a person is not responsible for who they are related to. I supported Mr. Dunnavant because he could serve the county full time and the others were willing to serve on;y part time.
Dan Speer - I believe he is the most underhanded, lying, self promoter that I have seen in this county. He has enriched himself at taxpayer expense many times over.
Roy Griggs - An excellent highly qualified paramedic but terribly inadequate administrator. Robert L. Jones - Disagreed with his predetermined ruling but otherwise haven’t had enough experience with him to have an opinion.
Most Who Disagree with You - Totally wrong. I greatly respect those whop are willing to stand up for their beliefs. Disagreements can very often lead to greater learning opportunities. I have a brother in law who is an atheist and I could not disagree with more but there are many other qualities that we focus on and love each other very much. I have several friends and a brother that are hard core democrats but we care a great deal for each other. I also have some friends that are so liberal that they openly supported obama both times and think Jerry Brown should be president, we could not disagree more on that. The thing that you seem to completely fail to understand is that because you disagree with someone doesn’t mean you hate, dispose or even that you don’t like that person. I have been married for fifty years to the same wonderful woman, we have disagreed on thousands of things over the years but that has not prevented our love from growing with every moment.
