E-mail topic: Drug Dealer (Non) Punishment

A reader says: How do people feel about the recent drug dealers who pled guilty, were given severe prison terms then had those terms suspended to only a few months? One person pled guilty to selling over half a gram of cocaine two different times and less than half a gram of cocaine once. He was sentenced to a total of twenty-six years in prison then everything was suspended except for six months. There wasn't even any probation. Oh, he did get ordered to pay a $2,000.00 fine and court cost. Another guy was sentenced to eight years with everything suspended except for less than a month. Oh, there was another $2,000.00 fine and court cost. What's going on here?

Compare these offenses to Winkles and Barrett only trying to speak at a school board meeting which is their right. Thankfully, we have decent, honest citizens in this county serving on the jury so,as we all know, both men were aquitted. If they had been found guilty in this town the book would have been thrown at them.
When thinking of this school board arrest why do the words "Fergit hell"! come to mind?

The sale of a controlled substance is a felony. The General Sessions Court has no jurisdiction to impose sentences for felonies. The drug related matters discussed were not before Judge Damron but in circuit court.

It's got to suck to be a Controlled Substance Distributor in Pulaski. You have to buy your produce and try to sale it without getting caught or you have to pay the courts their cut. Let's see, it's been awhile since I was a high profile crack dealer in Moscow so bare with my math. I buy the product for $200 a pound, I then sale it for $25.00 an oz. that's $400. My profit is $200. That means if I get caught I have to sale 10lbs just to pay their cut and break even. Man that sucks. Glad I changed professions. I'm now a hurricane chaser. I move to places I think are going to get hit then let the government take care of me. Don't laugh. I've been on two cruises and have about $2800.00 left in Best Buy gift cards, can't wait for the new XBOX to come out.
