Giles Free Speech Zone

The purpose of the "Giles Free Speech Zone" is to identify problems of concern to the people of Giles County, to discuss them in a gentlemanly and civil manner, while referring to the facts and giving evidence to back up whatever claims are made, making logical arguments that avoid any use of fallacy, and, hopefully, to come together in agreement, and find a positive solution to the problem at hand. I dream the impossible dream....

....of getting this blog listed on WKSR's "Swap and Shop." Just a few minutes ago, I posted the following under the category of "notice":

Community Affairs Blog

Find out what your neighbors are saying! Log in to the "Giles Free Speech Zone," and join in the fun. Suggest topics or reply to comments made by others. Your anonymity is guaranteed!

Point your web browser to...

http://gilesfreespeechzone.blogspot.com/

...and see what you've been missing!

I filled in all the appropriate blanks, and, so far as I can tell, my posting is entirely in line with what others are posting under "notice." Incidentally, besides all the lost puppy notices, the class re-union notice and the like, was included the following:

http://www.wksr.com/wksr.php?rfc=src/swapitem.php&id=56509

Follow the link, and you'll find a blatant COMMERCIAL AD for a satellite TV package. This is clearly not something that an "individual" has posted, but a for-profit company. My 100% non-profit blog is definitely more in line with the "spirit" of Swap and Shop, but it still strikes me as a longshot, to actually get listed there.

One thing's for sure. The only reason for NOT listing this blog, would be to try and keep Giles County in the dark about what some of us are saying. Refusing to list GFSZ, would only be an expression of arrogant contempt, by the elites who expect to run things... and usually do.

The automated posting form said to allow 24 hours for the notice to be approved. So I'll wait, with fingers crossed, to see what the powers that be at WKSR decide to do. Anyone want to lay odds? :-)

As of 9:47 a.m. the only part remaining of your post on Swap and Shop was the header. The body of the notice was not visible.
Now a of 9:50 a.m. the heading is also missing.

I would suggest email.
Create a tipping point.
Send an email to any and all individuals that you know would be interested in the Blog. They in turn will send it to everyone that they know would be interested and eventually through six degrees of separation this site could be known across the planet.

Stop worrying about Swap and Shop or the newspaper or any other "freedom of the press" mechanism as a way of disseminating your information.

" Freedom of the press is limited to those who own one."
A.J. LIEBLING

Do it yourself - and get those already interested in this site to help. Talk to people, email, by any means get the word out ... freedom of speech includes volume.

You are trying to compete with someone who has a monopoly on the media in giles county.I don't think they will allow you to get a foothold. The only reason penny thoughts was allowed to exist was because she"Claudia Dunavant"worked for them and they controlled what was posted.

Are saying, Claudia Johnson was Penny Thoughts?

Claudia Johnson was NOT Penny Thoughts. My husband and I are the only people who know who the owner of the former blog is. The owner continues to live in Giles Co. We were approached in February and requested to get an ad in the paper as the blog owner wished to remain anonymous. We contacted a few friends and six families chipped in for the ad. I will not list who contributed in fairness to them. We also created slips of paper with the web address and handed out to people we thought might be interested. Maybe Mr. McPeters would like to do something similar to what was done previously. None of this was done secretly. Most people are aware of these facts.

In an attempt to set the record straight, Ms Vanzant had nothing to do with the closing of the blog.

I'm sorry you find it hard to believe. The best thing I can do for you is to give you the name and telephone number of the detective who came to our home on a Saturday in May seeking to learn who the blog owner was. You may contact me on 424-6501, anonymously is fine. I doubt the detective would tell you who the client was but at least he could tell you who it was not. Then, for the benefit of everyone reading this blog, perhaps you would be kind enough to confirm what I said about Ms Vanzant not being involved.

I must confess to now being curious. Knowing how things happened, what do YOU think transpired that caused the blog to close? Thanks.

you THINK you are the only one who knows who penny thoughts is/was...it's not the secret you think. people talk.

Yes, unfortunately people do talk but oft times they don't always have correct information before they start chattering. My knowledge is nothing to do with a 'secret' its a matter of trust. Case closed on previous blog owner, its irrelevant. Thanks.

Dear 'Anonymous':
You can do whatever you want, its still irrelevant. Just make sure you know what you are talking about. Thanks.

Hey, gang!

Eternal optimist that I am, I have resubmitted to WKSR.com the "notice" on this blog. Will it be posted? Will it stay up longer than 15 minutes? Stay tuned....

Come on people, stick to the topics. This is the reason people aren't logging on to this website like they did on Penny Thought's site!

I am puzzled as to why WKSR will not allow you to list this site on swap@shop.Do they see this site as a threat or just don't want people to have a different source of information that they do not have any control over.Does anyone here know Hershel Lake and could they contact him and ask what the problem is?

I too know who penny thoughts is. He was a farmer who moved here in 1971 and made millions collecting scrap metal from the missle test sites in Arizona. He honed his skills on the streets of Pulaski and became a well know philanthropist by reading peoples minds and giving them money for their thoughts. People who cares who the person was!!!

Yes I'm back, after spending time away in a far far away land I am back to amuse all that are interested. Rumor had it the original site was shut down while I was gone and changed so I could'nt find it.
