The purpose of the "Giles Free Speech Zone" is to identify problems of concern to the people of Giles County, to discuss them in a gentlemanly and civil manner, while referring to the facts and giving evidence to back up whatever claims are made, making logical arguments that avoid any use of fallacy, and, hopefully, to come together in agreement, and find a positive solution to the problem at hand. E-mail topic: Billboard Switch-a-roo?

A curious 5th district voter says: I would like to see how many people have noticed the billboard by Dr. Gonzales in Bill Holt's father's yard. Mrs. Murrey had a sign and then the billboard and smaller signs by Gonzales showed up. Have they changed horses in the middle of the stream? Or does Mr. Holt feel that Mr. G.is going to win the election and his position is stable?

I know Mr. Holt very well. He is a very nice man, you won't find any better person. I suspect it is something as simple as he just wants to be a nice guy and let everyone post signs on his property. Let's face it, he has some prime high traffic count property for campaigns. Just because he has a Gonzales sign in his yard does not necessarily mean that he supports Gonzales. I think too much was made of this issue.

Why would you place a sign in your yard if you weren't planning to support that person. I've also been exposed to the other side of "Mr. Nice Guy".

That's NOT true. One female candidate has been boldly asking people if she can put one of her signs in their yard. People are, often, caught off guard or just simply don't want to be rude and say no. Sooooo a lot of people with her signs in their yard are NOT voting for her. Then, she has the audacity to phone people who have her male opponent's sign in their yard and demand to know why or ask them to take the sign down. When that doesn't work, she contacts their employer - like one of the local financial institutions who asked all their employees to remove candidate signs in their yards - a terrible intrusion on liberty, but not surprising given the bank. People have actually phoned the male candidate and apologized for having the green sign in their yard and stated that they will not be voting for her, they won't be misled twice.

You sure have your facts right, but here is the worst part. Her “personal assistant” Jane, has made the calls while at work in the county executive’s office on TAXPAYERS MONEY!

She must make the calls from there early in the day because the rest of the day they are out campaigning on TAXPAYER'S MONEY!

What financial institution instructed employees to remove political campaign signs from their property? I bet it was FNB .... that sounds like something they would do.

I guess tnmama2boys has it figured out when they said "He didn't know Mr. Gonzales was going to put up a sign that big..." goes to prove, give MG an inch and he'll take a mile.
I'm not going to pick on your grandfather but do you think he'll let me put a Boobie Bungalow sign in his yard?

The above about placing sign in yard, and employer ask them to be remove or place a green sign.
This is true::due to Vanzant made a threat of moving the County Bank Account to another bank after she is elected.
Pity that the big man at FNB didn't have the backbone to unload on her right then and there and let the public about the threat.
I forget myself for a minute there! I must make myself remember, for years with the politics here if you didn't have one of the two big banks' behind you or the mayor you could forget a job in this town!
Good ole Gal club, Go Janet.
Go back to Lincoln Co.

So Vanzant was going to move “the taxpayers money” to bank that is not locally owned??? Think about it, that is the only choice she had.

A smart business minded county leader with integrity would never use their position of “elected power” to force any financial institution or business to take sides in a local election and understand how vital all business’s are to our community’s progress. Vanzant shows no leadership qualities and certainly no integrity.

People keep whining that we cannot suggest malcontents catch a bus out of town if they aren't happy here. Yet, they keep telling Mrs. Vanzant to go back to Lincoln County. Go figure!

The beginning of wisdom comes when you realize that you are not the smartest thing on earth! Think about that when you are feeling most pompous!
