Just a note from your friendly blogmaster....
I have finally gotten in my hot little hands the rest of the video of yesterday's school board meeting. My intention is to create an MP3 file of the entire meeting, which I'll place on the Rebel website, to make a DVD for the library, and to extract a clip or two for posting on YouTube.
But that's a heck of a lot of work. And I haven't gotten a decent night's sleep in ages. Plus, I am WAY behind, both on personal e-mails, and on answering comments made to me here on this blog.
So, I'm going to let my self imposed deadline slide, and do all that video work and uploading tomorrow. Meanwhile, I will try and catch up on the blog, and then go to bed by a decent hour. Thank you all for your indulgence in this matter.
Incidentally, Mr. Barrett has already written and sent to me an account of yesterday's school board meeting. I'll get it posted at GilesRebel tomorrow...

I am very sorry, we had an agreement and I did not hold up to my end. When I asked to advertise on your website the agreement was for me to place an ad in the local paper to advertise the airing of the school board meeting. I have posted the events of my attempt to place that ad under the high cost of dying post but I will copy and paste it here. It is amazing the lenghts some will go to keep others uninformed.
Just curious, was there a reporter there from the pulaski paper?

People, you can complain all you like about how greedy the Lakes are, but I'm here to tell you they are not. Why just this past Tuesday when I tried to place an ad they were too busy to take my money and place my ad. After numerous attempts to pay in advance for my ad with cash I was assured it would be taken care of, and boy was it. I was contacted about two hrs later and told they could not print my ad. I figured it had to be one of three reasons, 1 it was because I was white, 2 because my ad had the word REBEL in it, or 3 CENSORSHIP. I figured there was no way it could possibly be CENSORSHIP, why with all of the U.S. soldiers fighting and dying in a foreign country so those people can have freedom of speech and live like we do. So , I asked "Why can you not publish my ad?" The only reply I was offered was "My superior (not boss or supervisor but SUPERIOR) told me we can not publish your ad!". So naturally I asked "Who is your superior?" and she replied "Steve Lake" and when I responded with "Steve Lake told you not to print my ad?" she told me to "have a blessed day" and hug up. I am sorry that I am not very familar with Steve Lake so I went to the old trusty dictionary and looked up Superior Lake and this is what I came up with "LARGEST OF THE GREAT LAKES" so I knew this had to be the one. So, after a couple of voices mails and a request for their criteria for placing an ad with no response I figured I would post his response here. Wait a minute, he has'nt responded yet, Sorry!
Oh and if you are wondering what my perverted disgusting ad said this is it. "LISTEN TO TODAY'S SCHOOL BOARD MEETING ON GilesRebel.com" Pretty nasty huh?

Don't sweat it. You tried your best to get that ad printed, but you were stonewalled by the competition fearing Lakes. It's really not surprising. Someone else on this blog has commented that the Lakes won't take certain ads because they fear competition. Since you hadn't gone public with your story at the time, I'm guessing the "competition" in question is WLLX... a radio station whose output makes WKSR look like a defective CB radio.
Anyway, I appreciate that you tried. As it happened, the videotape of the meeting was impounded by police until very recently, and so I was unable to hold up my end of "putting today's school board audio on the Rebel." So, let's just call it a wash.
Incidentally, Scott Stewart of the Lake paper was at the meeting, and, since the police didn't seize his tape or notes, he was able to publish a story at their website, GilesNews.us.

It is abusrd that people like yourself get on this blog and post foolish comments. You must live in the closet and decided now to come out. Jim Greene & Beverly Murrey are the only two members on the school board that have any type of back bone at all. I am one that knows it is very difficult to fight corruption in this county. The other five board members are very weak & spinless. I think it stinks that Mrs. Houston even voted knowing that she was going to resign from the board. Mike Young disappointed me also. There needs to be a recall on the last school board election. Will someone look into what it takes to accomplish a recall on an election?
Mr. Barrett is doing the right thing. Folks stay off his back. The bad thing in Giles County is when people start to open a can of stink. Then the ones that are taking part in the corruption are quick to start calling folks like Mr. Barrett a troublemaker or a shit stirer. Its way past time to stir the shit. Muskracking is a good term for the process at hard. What else can you say about stirring up that which resides at the bottom of the cesspool. Generally muck raises to the top to stink everything up, so it can be scraped away, disposed of, and reconstituted into fertalilzer. Sounds like an ecologically good idea.

I've just listened to the tape and have to say a BIG THANK YOU to both Jim Greene and Bev Murray. Jim is my school district representative and I couldn't be more pleased with how he conducts business. Bev Murray

1. If someone steals a hubcap from the county will Mr. Cagle come down & represent them at county expense? Someone said, he said that it's ok to break the sunshine law if the lawbreakers simply admitted they did, whenever called down on it! Sounds like he, she & it stole our right to open government!
If they broke the law, they should be charged, hauled in court, pay their way, & let a jury tell them to do right or leave office, & pay court costs out of their own pocket! I don't remember which thread the info is posted on but Kendrick stated he now has the taped back from the police and will have the rest on this site as soon as possible. I am not sure, but I beleive you will be able to hear Mrs. Norman.
10, 2007 5:59:57 He is a state lawyer and you can hear him on the video explaining how Mrs. Norman didn’t break the sunshine law. Personally, I think she did and they realized it, thus the state lawyer was here for that reason.
Mr Cagle is a lawyer with the Nashville firm of Lewis, King, Krieg & Waldrop. They represent the state school board and Mr Cagle was here, according to Mr Jackson, to defend Mrs Norman in her violations of the open meetings law.

I haven't been on here in a long, long time, and am amazed at what is going on here. Unfortunatley, I was unable to hear the audio of what went on at the board meeting, but I am so proud of Mr. McPeters, Mr. Barrett, and others who are taking a stand against the things that are going on with the school board. I really don't have to hear what was actually said as I can imagine and probably be pretty close to what really happened, however, this kind of evidence is what this county needs, especially for those who can't attend the meetings. YOur excellent coverage is amazing.
My father was a county commissioner long ago ( not in this county) and who was like Mr. Barrett in many ways, so I understand what he and others are going through, but I have to say, that even though he served in a much larger town than Pulaski, never did I hear him speak of such things that I have read about going on in this town. You all will ultimatley get the dishonest croneys out of here and restore honesty to our school system and this town. I admire you all more than you know. Keep up the good work. Tee and Kathy can hide all they want, but eventually all the bad and illegal activity will be exposed, and they will be out of here. It is my dream to see T. back in AL so we can get restore some dignity to this county and no more intimidation by those who have used their arrogance for way too long . I appreciate your new paper ( can't wait to read it) and a new radio station. WKSR reminds me of a communist station who reports only what they think we should be "allowed" to hear. They seem to cater to those who run this county--the country club type who still don't allow African Americans in their club.
The incident about someone not allowing an ad to be placed in our local paper makes me want to cancel my subscription right away. Maybe the county as a whole should do this. That would show them that they can't censor whatever they choose. Mabye the new paper will show them some competition and unlike Wal Mart ( who ousted Bi-Lo), will try to satisfy all who want to list with their paper. I haven't lived in this town very long, but for the time I have been here, I must say that it is the most political town I have ever lived in, and I have lived in many places. I don't like this town, and I can't tell you how much I appreciate what some of you are trying very hard to do, and that is expose those "rich and famous" for the hypocrites they realy are. I have never seen so few run a town like goes on here. It is sad and reminds me of something that would happen under the jurisdiction of Castro. I am not exaggerating when I say this. I think that I see it more often than others too, due to my job position. Regardless, you guys are the type that keep honesty alive in this country. It may take a while, but will be worth it in the long run. I am as proud of you as I am of our soldiers in Iraq. You are both fighting for our freedoms, only you don't have to use guns or lose arms and legs, or even your life in the process. Yoiu will face the same criticism, but all for a good cause.

I don't believe there was a public announcement of any earlier meeting. If it can be proved one was held, then the public certainly has proof of violation of sunshine law. I sure would be glad for my board member to have the backbone Murrey and Greene have. They seem to be doing a wonderful job. I tried talking to my member and it did no good. It would be great if some of the other 5 would get guts to speak up. Ithink some of them are good people but afraid to speak up.Lets watch and see if in the near future they get a big personal boost from the board and Jackson.

I know what "in charge" means to some on this blog. It means NEVER being elected to public office in this county.
