Promote Roger Strickland to maintenance supervisor over both Courthouse and Annex Bldgs.
Ladies and gentlemen:
If we hire a part time person at $8.50 per hr. That will be $8,840 per yr. $8,840+$8,000=$16,840 Per yr. We don’t have to pay extra insurance and full time benefits. Since we have help that is flexible, and willing to help out in both bldgs we need to keep good help.
SUGGESTION: Keep $25,000 in this budget. We will have $8,160 to adjust hrs. or pay scale if we have to.

2. After talking to Mr. Wilburn at the bank he has assured me that the bank will be open at

One question I have is if there is a need for someone to be at the Annex for only four hours a day why can’t one of the current workers be assigned there then work four hours at the courthouse? Presently both custodians are working 35 hours per week, this could be increased to a full 40 hour work week. There's got to be a mistake in these numbers that's more than many teachers make. It raises the question just how much are other people in the courthouse making?
Mr. Barrett, wouldn't Roger Strickland's hours also be 35 each week and the other hours overtime or comp time, which would then have him making much more per hour than you figured.
Has anyone checked to see how the bank has handled janitor work for many years ? Rumor has it they employed a part-time service twice a week . Suddenly, with all those dirty grubby commissioners and county employees dragging in SO much MORE dirt than three-times as many bank employees and customers the County needs a full time (obviously VERY s l o w ) cleaner ??

Those were not my numbers. I posted word for word what Mr. Strickland passed out to the budget committee.
Mr. Strickland reports working 100 hours per week and based on that number his hourly pay is reduced significantly. I have nothing to indicate if he is actually working that many hours per week but the thought that he is working over fourteen hours everyday of the week seems a bit incredible. There are many, many things that I like even love around here. Of all the places I have lived since my birth this is the only place I chose.
I've tried, obviously unsuccessfully, to explain that simply because a person sees some problems and seeks correction for them does not mean that person can not appreciate the hundreds of other things that are mostly right. Correcting the problems would benefit all of the community and add to the good not subtract from them. It's sort of like if you have a broken arm, that part of your body needs some extra and immediate attention. Repairing that broken arm doesn't prevent your legs from working it only makes the whole body better.
By the way it was Mrs Vanzant that referred to Mrs Roberts as a consultant for the county. I simply have asked if she is a paid consultant and have not gotten a "NO" answer from the County Executive or County Commission. You are right about her not working at the courthouse lately but you might want to check the number of times she's been at the courthouse annex.

As an American citizen I have a responsibility to take an active part in the personal activities of my nation, I thought all citizens shared in that responsibility. What I was trying to say is that custodians without any special training are making much more money than people who have positions of responsibility and that require education and/or specialist training.
Yeah, why don't you look at the salaries of the people who take care of the buses the the children of Giles County ride to school eveyday. Compare their salaries to the county garage, the county garage employees do not take care of vehicles that haul precious cargo everyday. The employees at the bus barn have a big responsibility for such little pay.
