Question of Giles County High School Graduation

The proposal was presented that in order to have GCHS graduation in Sam Davis Park approximately thirty thousand dollars would have to be spent on temporary measures to shore up the stands and the work needed to begin yesterday. The question was asked since the plan is to hold the ceremony in the gym in case of rain why not plan to hold the graduation ceremony in the gym to begin with and not spend the money on temporary and rushed fixes. Another possibility is to have the ceremony at Martin as has been done in the past. Allen Barrett

I know this is not the blog to put this on, but I'm thankful Giles County Schools are not taking the day of silence.

Check this site out.

I'm not condemning gays, just don't think schools should encourage it.
I've always thought they were born with something wrong in them.

Something on the topic if I was attending the graduation, I had rather it was on the inside of a building.

If some idiot is actually considering spending $30,000.00 on a temporary fix just so graduation ceremonies can be held in the park they need to be run out of town on a rail. You can't hear anything in the park and you're usually so far away you can't see half of what's going on. Two hours in the gym at a $30,000.00 saving would be just fine with me. How stupid can people be for goodness sake.

Why would you say that, their is not enough time between now an graduation to fix the problem permamently. So why spend so much money on a tempory fix for one event. The use of martin college sounded good also. Little snide remarks are a sign of a small mind an will not solve anything.

Why not have the GCHS graduation at Martin College in the Curry building? Bobby Hastings is right on the money when he said the gym is not a very good place AT ALL!!! It is hot, crowded and you cant hear anything that the speaker says nor can you hear your child's name being called out. There were 2 graduating classes in the 80's who had their graduations at Martin and it was much better. One of them was at 9:00 am on a Saturday morning. I think we all would like to see Sam Davis Park be fixed but come on people, fix the bleachers. There is no reason to expand this and change that.

Does Richland have a large enough place to have their graduation?

I am a senior at GCHS!!!My sister graduated in 2000 in the gym and it was horrible. It was hot, we couldn't hear the speaker nor could we hear the names of the graduates being called out and people were sitting on top of each other. It was just a mess in general.!!!!!!!!!!
The GCHS Class of 2008 DOES NOT WANT to graduate in our gym. We, as a class, are sticking together to find an alternative to this. We like the suggestion of graduating at Martin College, inside or out. We would rather have our friends and families bring lawn chairs and still graduate at Sam Davis than be stuck in our gym. Our graduation is in two months. WOULD SOMEONE ASK "US" WHAT WE WANT!!!!!!OR IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK!!!!!!!!!It is, after all OUR GRADUATION!!!!

Are the rest rooms at Sam Davis Park out of order?
If not why can't people carry their own chair to watch a basllgame there. why carry your chair out in a field where there are no bath rooms?

Get busy and tear those bleachers down.
If the restrooms are bad, where is the portable ones?

I only meant for portable toilets to be used until something could be done.
I've been told games are being held where there are no toilets.

I'm not a sports fan, so its only hear say.

so they spend all those thousands on fixing up the stadium for graduation and it rains.... where will the ceremony be held then?

Have the ceremony at the stadium you can either issue umbrellas at county expense or just build a dome over everything. If New Orleans can do it why can't we, high school football is far more important here than pro football is there.

The septic tank is backed up. I cant afford water anymore. The EPA says I cant fertalize the garden or plow in it. My cow quit givin milk cause she is all backed up & cant take a crap cause she aint allowed to raise her tail. The presidentand those running cant agree on nothin except all want more illegal aliens breaking this country. Gas is over $3 but it dont matter anymore cause if it wasnt insurance or wheel taxes, or termites, the darn thing quit & I cant getter to run. Cant afford to heat the shack or cool it or pay the taxes - cant even affors a tent.

With all of this happenings, some dumb asses want to spend $2.1 million for a cement stadyum. Why not just come over watch my cow & bet on the minute when she'll either raise her tail & get me fined or explode! $1 a chance, $5 cash or all the meat you can eat if you get the time right. If no one guesses right I get to keep all the money cause I need it more than you.

If they had observed the day my children would not have attended that day. I am not a redneck either, I just don't believe that a homosexual lifestyle shoud be promoted to children as being okay.

As an educator, I will resign before I am forced to teach homosexuality as an alternate lifestyle. Some things are just too important to ignore.
We have had the liberal left pushing this thing for years, and well-intentioned but uninformed people continue to line up and vote for their candidates.
The irony of it all is that many of these voters attend church and know what the Bible has to say about such things as homosexuality and the slaughter of innocent unborn children for the sake of the mother's convenience! Someone help me understand that.

Wish I could help Anonymous but I've struggled with this matter for many years and still can not understand it. It's not only confusing but heartbreaking to see a car in the church parking lot advertising a candidate who stands firm for the slaughter of children. Even more confusing is to see someone who spent extra money for a pro-life license plate then puts a sticker for an abortion advocate.

wab..
It smacks of mental laziness when a Christian votes for proponents of the very things he or she knows the Bible condemns!
By the way, where are all the Christians and Catholics in this country? There should be enough of them to vote out any left-winger who runs.

What happened to graduation at the park, I thought that was the reason to rush into funding the very expensive temp fixes.

What was done at GCHS for graduation was plain criminal. There is no way to justify having that many people in that totally inadequate gym. Just another statement about the level of respect the school system has for it's students and taxpayers.
