Firearm safety
It seems from a recent article on WKSR that there may need to be some safety classes held for people using firearms in the county. According to the report an officer with the Pulaski Police Department was cleaning their hand gun when it accidentally discharged. There is no possible way a hand gun can fire its self if proper procedures are being followed. Some simple issues of handgun safety is do not think but know by checking if the weapon is unloaded. Never attempt to clean a loaded weapon and always treat a firearm as if it is loaded until you know for certain.
A question arises as to whether the officer involved was following proper procedures.... obviously not. If not why not and was there any disciplinary action taken. Fortunately this did not turn out to be as bad as it could have been but if no changes are made what will the next incident result in?

I agree that firearm safety should be practiced and taught on a daily basis. An unfortunate accident indeed. Those involved are very fortunate that no one was injured.
Are you saying there is a cover-up since no one was disciplined?
I posted this tread at the request of an e-mailer. I have made no comment about the incident. I think all those involved were indeed very lucky, accidents happen. I think the requester may have been concerned because, as with some other things, so few details were given. Allen Barrett
I feel no action was taken because the mental strain an incident like that places on a person is bad enough without putting any extra on that person. Something like this can affect a person mentally sometimes more than physically.
Accidents happen. Unfortunately, in this messed up national environment, some people think there should be legal penalties for accidents & mishaps. Fortunately, we don't see that here in Giles Co.
In the topic, it stated that he was cleaning the gun. In the paper, it was described as clearing the gun
So who got it right the paper or the radio. I thought they used the same reporting sources. There is a very big difference in cleaning and clearing and their is a huge difference in the level of responsibility in preventing such an accident.
He was clearing the gun.
Not to hijack this thread but I don't see a method on this website to request a new post.
How about a topic of "What Do You Like About Giles County?"
I'd be curious as to what some of the responses would be.
Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.
To the above poster this is a good point! It would be nice if the comments were most recent to least rather than vice versa? Could you create an area for topic suggestions? It would bring new posters and readers to the site if more subjects were offered each day from those who post here.
