More Janitorial Help????

At the Budget Committee Meeting on 28 October it was agreed to take $20,000.00 form the county maintenance funds and hire either a part-time or full-time custodian. The reason I state either part or full-time is because the County Executive has not decided. As I stated in the meeting this would bring the custodial staff up to the very number proposed and turned down by the commissioners less than a year ago. If you can't come in the front door I suppose the backdoor is just fine. The justification for this expenditure was that the chief custodian was hurt and "might" not be able to do all his job.

You must work for the county anonymous 4:35. Otherwise why would it bother you? I guess you think it is okay to spend, spend, spend. At a time when we all are having to tighten our belts the county should have to do the same. Nothing out of line to question more funding for another job. If justified then no harm. However, if not justified then it should be questioned. If you are a taxpayer, which I am sure you are, then you should be appreciative of someone questioning how your tax dollars are spent. It is has become customary in this county to create a position when a relative or friend is in need of a job. Has been done time and time again. Not to mention the many times jobs have been created, funded and never advertised and then mysteriously the position is filled by someone connected to the person doing the hiring. Equal opportunity is not being applied in our county government among other things. My advice to you is if you find this blog forum to be one of negativity, you should not log on and read it. Applying a little common sense here.

It might bother some people because you make an incorrect assumption about a select few. You have been asked over and over who you refer to but you are too chicken to respond. So, how about putting a few names to your postings.

Please don't try to bait me. You know perfectly well who you guys are, and most people around town do as well. It's the same bunch of whiners and know-it-alls who are present at any meeting held in Pulaski and who are constantly writing letters to the editor. Don't take my word for it; just informally ask around town. If you don't "know" who they are, I feel confident that you can find out in a hurry.

What cookie jar? Who neeeds to back off? Get caught at what? Are you the same kook I've been dealing with? Outrageous.
Your continued spewings of hatred must be giving you ulcers. So sad.
I hope you will be courageous and go up on the square and just ask around about wqho the troublemakers are. I would bet that you will have the answer in a matter of minutes.
Why am I not surprised that you accused me of wanting to hide or suppress the "truth"? Laughable, indeed!

I must disagree with you once again. You are the one who speaks of cookie jars and substance.
To use one of you guys' analogies, what you say is a lot like a comparison of flattulence to diarrhea. Truly laughable.

Do you realize how important we both are to the future of this blog? Were it not for our bantering back and forth, this blog would die. So, could we say that ours is a noble calling?

I'm still baffled. If you yourself attended a few meetings you would see a variety of people. Why, even last Friday it was standing room only. As for the letters to the newspaper, again a varied type of people write in on a mixter of topics. Can it be that your information on "troublemakers and whiners" is handed down to you by our county executive herself? And you statement to "ask around the square" can only really mean "ask around the courthouse and annex of the employees". Now we all know for sure you are a county emplyee. Whatch out sweetie.

You are incredibly delusional. I have NOTHING to do with county government. I have NO affiliation or relationship whatsoever with any county official. I am NOT paid as a county employee. So, could we both then agree that you are delusional? I think so.
Again, if you want to know who it is that continually finds fault with anyone other than themselves, go up to the square and just take an informal survey. I dare you. But of course, you would explain it all away by saying Giles Countians don't have sense enough to think fopr themselves, wouldn't you?
I never said you talked about flattulence and diarrhea. I was simply making a comparison statement.
Would you agree that you and I keep this blog alive?

Why is it that because someone sees what is happening in our local government and brings the problems to the attention of the masses they are considered a trouble maker and whiner, even though what they write about is absolutely correct. Perhaps they should be considered a bit of a hero for having the guts to speak out.

I totally agree with you. Those calling names are usually the corrupt ones or they are connected to the corruption and they are trying to keep the citizens of Giles County further in the dark.
It takes a lot of backbone to stand up and do the right thing by exposing corruption. There are not many that will do it. We need to at the very least listen to what they are saying. Don't discard the information because of who delivers it. Be open-minded and evaluate the information and form your own opinion. There are many in this county that love control and want to keep you in the dark and out of the know. Ask questions, attend meetings and you will see yourself that those that post much of the information on here are accurate in their posts.

Why don't you direct your question to your county commissioners in your district? That is what you elect them for. I just know he is full-time. I can't explain, who, what, when, where, why or how. I understand you questioning it and you should be. You are just asking questions to the wrong people. Everyone seems to doubt everything on here, yet this is where you all come to when you want your information. The thing is you don't have a problem with the information you get until it disagrees with you. Why not be present at some county commission, school board and committee meetings? You might learn something firsthand and not have to get it secondhand. Then you can come on here an enlighten us all and we can turn and call you a whiner, hater, malcontents, envious, etc. Isn't that how it works on here. Anyone brings an ounce of truth to the table we all get called names? I have to say it all anonymous you walked into that one.

Your County Commissioners don't know the answer about Mooney for when the budget is presented to them it doesn't tell them alot of who all is needed or how many positions there is in a particul line item. It's usually just a dollar amount in those line items and when questions are ask by the Commissioners, they don't get a straight answer. And most of the time the Commissioners just get tired of fooling with it and either vote yes or no. And if and when a Commissioner does ask questions about employees, they are told by the Elected Office holders that they are elected by the county as a whole and the Commissioners do not have a say in any of their decisions on how many employees or which employee they hire. So go to Janet Vanzant, Barry Hyatt, Kyle Helton, Crystal Greene, Kaye Gibbons, Carol Wade, Jo Ann Townsend, and non-elected Officials like Tee Jackson, Roy Griggs, Kathy Bassham, Mary Sigmon to find out answers about their employees. Mooney will fall under Vanzant.

Did you notice the ad in the paper we received today (Friday) announcing the county is looking for a bookkeeper? Only problem is you gotta get your application in by Monday! Now how can you do that if you have to work in another county just to get a paycheck. Courthouse closes before you can get there in one day. Wanna bet the job goes to the latest secretary in Vanzant's office?

Of course. There's always something sinister and dishonest going on in local county government, according to you guys.
And YES, I believe the most qualified for a job should have a shot at an opening. But let me ask you a question. Let's suppose the most qualified had a horrible personality and did not get along with people. Would you hire that person, just because they have the higher credentials and no people skills? Of course not, so stop whining even

Obviously 9:30/11:35 you have never held an interview or been interviewed for a job. Sorry for your failures 2:34. There is nothing psychic about my comment. The resume is only one part of the hiring process as any good personnel director would know. To 5:33 Affirmative action has nothing to do with the matter we were discussing.
I worked over thirty years in management and held hundreds of interviews for positions from laborer to executive and can assure you that not I nor any of those I supervised ever hired anyone based only on their "credentials". The interview is a major if not the major part of the hiring process.

Then why make a big fuss about who gets hired at Mrs. Sigmon's office? Why can't she have the leverage to hire who she feels is the "best fit" without someone like you trying to stir up trouble?
I too have interviewed several applicants for jobs, and will tell you that sometimes the most highly qualified did not get the job because of things not shown on the application. If the most highly qualified was a jerk, I'd much rather work with someone perhaps a little less "qualified" but who had an abundance of personality and people skills. Would you hire the jerk just because he or she is the most qualified?
