WILL GILES COUNTY HELP ELECT A SOCIALIST TO THE PRESIDENCY ????

With only a few days of early voting left will Giles County be part of an Obama election or will common sense and love of freedom prevail? Senator Obama has made it very clear that his agenda is that of a socialist seeking to take the earnings of some and give to others. It's amazing that he claims to only want to tax the rich but then proposes higher withholding on payroll taxes (for those who are unaware that's social security). A man claimed to be the Messiah but whose history reveals only a cheap Chicago politician, drug addict, who never had a real job except with ACORN and even that is suspect, a friend of terrorists, slum lords, racist and criminals. A man who made over four million dollars last year but gave less than ten thousand dollars to charity, the year before that he and his wife gave less than four thousand to charity yet wants to take other people's money and give it to those he considers needy. The man is an unrepentant liar who claims to be a Christian but it's "above his pay grade" to say when life begins however it's OK to kill unborn children and in some instances born children for the convenience of the mother at government expense.
Senator Obama has the most liberal voting record of any legislator in the congress, his running mate is number three with the openly socialist Bernie Sanders coming in at number three. The senator is in the top ten at getting earmarks including a huge one to pay his wife's salary. If this man is elected along with his buddies Nancy Polise and Harry Reid heading up the House and Senate does anyone think those responsible for this financial crisis will ever be brought to justice. Franklin Rains made over nine million from Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae before they went broke, Sen. Chris Dodd (D) got huge loans at bargain basement rates from Countrywide as it was filing for bankruptcy, Barney Frank and Maxine Waters prevented any action being taken to control the worthless loans. This is just the tip of the iceburg of corruption surrounding Sen. Obama. Allen Barrett

I don't usually agree with wab, but he is absolutely right about obama. He DOES have socialist leanings and has even said practically the same thing as did Karl Marx when it comes to income re-distribution. Of course, those looking for more handouts and reasons not to be personally responsible for their own lives will gladly vote for him. And, interestingly enough, blacks almost to a man will vote for him simply because of his skin color. I cannot understand why they (blacks) want to vote for a party who, in truth, hates them and yet panders to them to get their votes. They forget that it was the party of Abe Lincoln who set the slaves free. They talk about black pride. Well, where is it when it comes to the way democrats treat them? I know what I'm talking about, because I have heard democrats laugh about how they have blacks in their back pocket!
Will you ever hear anything about obama's very frightening alliances from the liberal media? Of course not! They are on his side completely and would rather spend their time "objectively" discussing Governor Palin's wardrobe!
Sadly, I think the guy will be elected, and that's a terrible indictment on Christians and Catholics in this country. I refuse to believe that true Christians and devout Catholics would even consider voting for a pro-death (abortion) and pro-homosexual candidate, regardless of party affiliation. Knowing that a huge number of both groups will vote for him tells me that, in reality, there are not nearly as many as we have been told. No, this should be a landslide victory for McCain just on those two issues. And the democrat surrender policy is Iraq is absolutely unfathomable!
But, conservatives, take heart. If we can survive four miserable years of obama, we will never have to worry about another democrat in the White House during our lifetimes!

WAB may or may not be nuts I don't know but your unsupported statements say much more negative about you than him. Prove him wrong on what he stated with some offering more than your idle thoughts. That is the problem there is nothing in his statement that can be proved wrong, the truth is there in plain sight.

It's talk like this that leads dumb@$$ people to say they want to assassinate Obama and decapitate and kill black students in Tennessee. Can you wonder why people don't trust to come to GIles County. Guess who else likes to visit here (like two weekends ago). Yeah, they were here being accepted by our lovely radical idiots who write stupid articles like this one.
I know some of you get entertainment from this blog, but others would like to get accurate information.
Mr. Barrett, you would have no idea who I am, but I have spoken to you about several issues and have supported you in others. You are really getting far off base by inciting others to with this warped crap you are preaching (and I use that loosely).
Don't you people realize others from outside the area read this junk and thus judge this community from the responses and comments on here.
OMG, you folks need to get real and figure out that whether you like it or not, Barack Obama is going to be the next President of the United States.
Only idiots would believe that he is going to rid this country of its guns, "spread you wealth" (those of you who don't have a pot to pi$$ in)and allow anarchy in the country. He nor any other president can move mountains or walk on water and I support him. It's called common sense. So many of you DO NOT have it.

Two white supremacists allegedly plotted to go on a national killing spree, shooting and decapitating black people and ultimately targeting Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, federal authorities said Monday.

In all, the two men whom officials describe as neo-Nazi skinheads planned to kill 88 people -- 14 by beheading, according to documents unsealed in U.S. District Court in Jackson, Tenn. The numbers 88 and 14 are symbolic in the white supremacist community.

The spree, which initially targeted an unidentified predominantly African-American school, was to end with the two men driving toward Obama, "shooting at him from the windows," the court documents show.

"Both individuals stated they would dress in all white tuxedos and wear top hats during the assassination attempt," the court complaint states. "Both individuals further stated they knew they would and were willing to die during this attempt."

An Obama spokeswoman traveling with the senator in Pennsylvania had no immediate comment.

Sheriffs' deputies in Crockett County, Tenn., arrested the two suspects -- Daniel Cowart, 20, of Bells, Tenn., and Paul Schlesselman 18, of Helena-West Helena, Ark. -- Oct. 22 on unspecified charges.

"Once we arrested the defendants and suspected they had violated federal law, we immediately contacted federal authorities," said
Crockett County Sheriff Troy Klyce.

The two were charged by federal authorities Monday with possessing an unregistered firearm, conspiring to steal firearms from a federally licensed gun dealer, and threatening a candidate for president.

Cowart and Schlesselman are being held without bond. Agents seized a rifle, a sawed-off shotgun and three pistols from the men when they were arrested. Authorities alleged the two men were preparing to break into a gun shop to steal more.

Jasper Taylor, city attorney in Bells, said Cowart was arrested on Wednesday. He was held for a few days in Bells, then moved over the weekend to another facility.

"It was kept under lid until today," Taylor said.

Until his arrest, Cowart lived with his grandparents in a southern, rural part of the county, Taylor said, adding that Cowart apparently never graduated from high school. He moved away, possibly to Arkansas or Texas, then returned over the
summer, Taylor said.

Attorney Joe Byrd, who has been hired to represent Cowart, did not immediately return a call seeking comment Monday. Messages left on two phone numbers listed under Cowart's name were not immediately returned.

No telephone number for Schlesselman in Helena-West Helena could be found immediately.

The court documents say the two men met about a month ago on the Internet and found common ground in their shared "white power" and "skinhead" philosophy.

The numbers 14 and 88 are symbols in skinhead culture, referring to a 14-word phrase attributed to an imprisoned white supremacist: "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children" and to the eighth letter of the alphabet, H. Two "8"s or "H"s stand for "Heil Hitler."

Court records say Cowart and Schlesselman also bought nylon rope and ski masks to use in a robbery or home invasion to fund their spree, during which they allegedly planned to go from state to state and kill people. Agents said the skinheads did not identify the African-American school they were targeting by name.

Jim Cavanaugh, special agent in charge of the Nashville field office for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives, said authorities took the threats very seriously.

"They said that would be their last, final act -- that they would attempt to kill Sen. Obama," Cavanaugh said. "They didn't believe they would be able to do it, but that they would get killed trying."

He added: "They seemed determined to do it. Even if they were just to try it, it would be a trail of tears around the South."

An ATF affidavit filed in the case says Cowart and Schlesselman told investigators the day they were arrested they had shot at a glass window at Beech Grove Church of Christ, a congregation of about 60 black members in Brownsville, Tenn.

Nelson Bond, the church secretary and treasurer, said no one was at the church when the shot was fired. Members found the bullet had shattered the glass in the church's front door when they arrived for evening Bible study.

"We have been on this site for about 120 years, and we have never had a problem like this before," said Bond, 53 and a church member for 45 years.

The investigation is continuing, and more charges are possible, Cavanaugh said.

He said there's no evidence -- so far -- that others were willing to assist Cowart and Schlesselman with the plot.

At this point, there does not appear to be any formal assassination plan, Secret Service spokesman Eric Zahren said.

"Whether or not they had the capability or the wherewithal to carry out an attack remains to be seen," he said.

Zahren said the statements about the assassination came out in interviews after the men were arrested last week.

The Secret Service became involved in the investigation once it was clear that an Obama assassination attempt was part of this violent far-reaching plot.

"We don't discount anything," Zahren said, adding that it's one thing for the defendants to make statements, but it's not the same as having an organized assassination plan.

Helena-West Helena, on the Mississippi River in east Arkansas' Delta, is in one of the nation's poorest regions, trailing even parts of Appalachia in its standard of living. Police Chief Fred Fielder said he had never heard of Schlesselman.

However, the reported threat of attacking a school filled with black students worried Fielder. Helena-West Helena, with a population of 12,200, is 66 percent black. "Predominantly black school, take your pick," he said.

To casio,
Is there justification because two crazy people decide to do something despicable that all open discourse be stopped. Those two would be assassins didn't have enough sense between them to even rent a tux much less carry out an attempted murder. At the same time this nonsense was happening a Halloween decoration depicting Gov. Palin was hung by a noose from a house in Cal. and it has hardly made the news. Would it be so if it were of Sen. Obama?
I would very much like to know what I posted that was not true. You may think that what I wrote was stupid but if you can not show proof of any single part as being untrue perhaps it is you who is stupid.
As for thinking that "Only idiots would believe that he is going to rid this country of its guns, "spread you wealth" (those of you who don't have a pot to pi$$ in)and allow anarchy in the country". What makes you think that these things will not be done with a far left president, Speaker of the House, and majority leader in the senate along with a majority in both houses of congress. Already they have been talking about putting limits on free speech in direct violation of the Constitution. Sen. Obama has spoken several times about his desire to re-distribute the wealth of this nation from those who achieve to those who don't.
If you think your guns can't be taken away by Sen. Obama you might consider what happened in Great Britain a few years ago when they made it against the law to own any firearms even antiques. I watched on TV as they took a number of priceless firearms that were hundreds of years old and threw them in the fires, So don't think it can't happen, as a senator he already tried to prohibit the sale of ammunition and put firearms manufactures out of business.
I have read both his books and it is truly frightening not only the ideas he holds but the associations he keeps.
One thing to keep in mind when you go to vote is this is not the democratic party of JFK and your grandparents. If you only could remember the situation created by the Carter administration you would know how totally destructive just one term under a president
who has no knowledge or backbone.
My goodness just look at what the democrats have done to this economy through their socialist policies already.
Ask yourself would your grandparents and parents support killing children for convenience or consider the marriage of two people of the same sex to be as appropriate and acceptable as a traditional marriage? Would your parents and grandparents be shocked at the idea of them working and having their money taken and given to someone too lazy to work? Socialism was not acceptable to our forefathers and it should not be accepted by their children. Allen Barrett

So McCain threw out the word Socialist & y'all jumped right on that bandwagon huh? A black man as President scares the Hell out of of you doesn't it? So let's get all the negative press releases we can find true or not & recycle them. Let's hang on to the Good Ole Boy attitude until this country goes to WAR with every country who has a different belief system than ours. Dear God don't try to move into the 21st century where this country might make one inch of progress into a new way of thinking. Let's keep that old guard in place so that we never give our children a country that knows PEACE.
Let's keep the RICH RICH & the POOR POOR & in their place.
Even Alan Greenspan finally admitted that he made a mistake which says to me that most of that generation & it's followers made the same mistake.
If the
Republicans are doing such a Bang-up job then why is this country headed into a Recession?
And remember Congress & Treasury Not the President causes the Recession. Who controls those?
And actually the President for the last 8 years has done what to get this country on it's feet?
How many times did the minimum wage go up? What party pushed for it the most? When you got your little rebate check did you have to declare it the next year as income? Just a few thoughts from someone under the age of 50.

John McCain has been saying a lot of downright nutty things lately. You've probably come across some of them, such as his admitted lack of knowledge about economics or his excitement at the prospect of remaining in Greater Mesopotamia for the next ten decades. Yet, alas, much of his craziness has been lost in the fog of the ongoing battle between Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination. So here's a recap of some nuggets of wisdom you may have missed -- from McCain's mouth to Bellevue's Ears.
10. Responding to a student who criticized his remark about our staying in Iraq for 100 years, McCain quipped, "No American argues against our military presence in Korea or Japan or Germany or Kuwait or other places, or Turkey, because America is not receiving casualties."
I guess Ron Paul isn't American. Or Dennis Kucinich. Or many others who have questioned the mindset behind keeping our troops abroad forever, which is what an empire does, not a republic. Although, perhaps more people don't argue "against our military presence" in the other spots he named, because, you know, those wars weren't based on 100 percent fabricated evidence and didn't make us less safe after they were done. Just a thought.
9. John McCain is "very proud to have Pastor John Hagee's support."
Just FYI, John Hagee makes Jeremiah Wright seem like Richard Simmons. Hagee has called the Catholic Church the "Great Whore," an "apostate church," the "Antichrist," and a "false cult system." And let's not even get into what he has said about Jews.
8. "In the shorter term," said McCain, "if you somehow told American businesses and families, 'Look, you're not going to experience a tax increase in 2010,' I think that's a pretty good short-term measure."
This is McCain's statement in suport of making permanent the tax cuts he voted and railed against in 2001 and 2003. Back then they were only a giveaway to the rich and "budget-busters." Now that we are much further along in borrowing our economy from the Chinese, and the rich have become even richer, they are a way to stimulate the economy by putting money in the hands of working Americans.
7. "This is a Catholic Voter Alert. Governor George Bush has campaigned against Senator John McCain by seeking the support of Southern fundamentalists who have expressed anti-Catholic views. Several weeks ago, Governor Bush spoke at Bob Jones University in South Carolina. Bob Jones has made strong anti-Catholic statements, including calling the Pope the anti-Christ, the Catholic Church a satanic cult! John McCain, a pro-life senator, has strongly criticized this anti-Catholic bigotry, while Governor Bush has stayed silent while seeking the support of Bob Jones University. Because of this, one Catholic pro-life congressman has switched his support from Bush to McCain, and many Michigan Catholics support John McCain for president."
This was a John McCain for president campaign robo-call in 2000. Today, as we pointed out, he hangs with the Rev. Hagee who thinks Catholicism is a "cult" and the "Antichrist." How romantic.
6. "Everybody says that they're against the special interests. I'm the only one the special interests don't give any money to."
Here are some examples of Sen. McCain's epic battle with special-interest money: According to the Center for Responsive Politics, McCain has taken nearly $1.2 million in campaign contributions from the telephone utility and telecom service industries, more than any other senator. McCain sides with the telecom companies on retroactive immunity.
McCain is also the single largest recipient of campaign contributions from Ion Media Networks -- formerly Paxson Communication -- receiving $36,000 from the company and employees from 1997 to mid-year 2006.
5. McCain listened intently, pausing a second before delivering what could be a defining answer. "The other one will do just fine."
For what important reason was Sen. McCain interrupting an explanation to the press of his positions on Iraq and national security to take a cell phone from an aide? Why his wife needed to buy them a new barbecue grill.
4. During a Nov. 28, 2007, Republican debate Sen. McCain angrily denounced torture and offered unmitigated support of the Army field manual's restrictions, saying they "are working, and working effectively."
So naturally and quite logically, he voted against applying these same standards to the CIA. Apparently these rules won't work effectively for spooks, just the men and women on the front lines.
3. McCain, while speaking at a town hall meeting in a suburb of Philadelphia, was asked if he had concerns that anti-American insurgents in Iraq might commit increased acts of violence in September or October with a plan in mind to tip the November election to the Democrats. "Yes, I worry about it," McCain said.
How did he figure out what the insurgents -- which his policies in Iraq have helped create -- are up to? When they attacked us on 9/11, and the warning signs were all ignored by President Bush and his then National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice, he was punished with winning a second term. So, of course, militants, who follow john McCain's campaign like Republicans do the signs of the Rapture, are closely planning their events because they know the exact opposite will be the result this time.
2. Let's go back to the videotape: "I'm the only one the special interests don't give any money to."
Not only have we proven this false, but perhaps many can't give money because they all work on his campaign. His campaign manager, Rick Davis, lobbyist. Top advisor, Charlie Black, lobbyist. The operative currently running his Senate office, Mark Buse, former lobbyist. And so it goes. Here is what one observer had to say. "It's an interesting dichotomy. On the one hand, he's presenting himself as the crusader against special interests and yet, on the other hand, he's surrounded himself with senior advisers that are lobbyists," said Sheila Krumholz of the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan, non-profit research group focused on money in politics.
1. And finally, McCain's craziest, coolest, most unstoppable McCain Moment: The senator said, while in Jordan, that it was "common knowledge and has been reported in the media that al-Qaeda is going back into Iran and receiving training and are coming back into Iraq from Iran, that's well known. And it's unfortunate." A few moments later, Sen. Joseph Lieberman, admiringly gazing at McCain until that moment, stepped up and whispered something in the presidential candidate's ear. McCain then blurted out: "I'm sorry, the Iranians are training extremists, not al-Qaeda."
Phew. Glad trusty Joe Lieberman was there to explain to the man of "experience," a man who wants to lead the free world, that Sunnis (Al Qaeda) and Shia (Iran) not only don't work together but are in direct conflict. We have only been at war there for five years, so I wouldn't expect Sen. McCain to concern himself with such trivial matters.

Someone under the age of 50 needs to understand what it was like when Jimmy Carter was president and interest rates were in the twenties.
the tax rate was so oppressive no business could get started.
Yes the democrats pushed for an increase in the minimum wage and look at the jobs that dried up and the increase in the cost of living that went along with it.
Someone under 50 needs to remember that the last two years both houses of congress have been led by democrats with Nancy Polise and Harry Reid at the helm. They also promised change if they were elected and boy o boy did we get change. Their radical ideas gave us four dollar a gallon gas, food prices that are out of sight and an economy that is broken. It was the republicans that caused this recession or the financial crisis, certainly they played a large part by spending like fools, but Barney Frank, Franklin Rains, Maxine Waters and the congressional black caucus all democrats were at the very center of blocking Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from controlling loans that eventually brought down the banking system by forcing them to make loans to unqualified house buyers.
Someone under 50 needs to understand that being black isn't the problem with Obama it's his ultra liberal positions, while not admitting he is a socialist he has declared to hold socialist views, a dislike for this nation by his refusal to show proper respect during the playing of the national anthem. Even his running mate called him a dangerous man unqualified to be president. He is a crooked Chicago politician who has enriched himself while calling for others to give up their money for him to spend. There are a number of people of color I would be eager to vote for but they are proven people who love this country, hold conservative principles and values. I voted for McCain not as a first choice but as the best choice of those running the addition of Gov. Palin made it much easier.
Someone under 50 needs to understand the pressure that is being put on people of color to go vote for Obama simply because he is half black. The simple truth is just as blacks have been used in the past by democrats to become empowered then forgotten, they will be used again. Obama has a greater allegiance to the Muslim world than he does to black Americans. Allen Barrett

To the very small minded person who wrote on 28 Oct 4:21

"being so anti-Black and totally prejudiced on every issue".
That is a statement of utter ignorance from a person too stupid to make a logical argument or understand anything other than on the most superficial level.
I grew up in the housing projects of Murfreesboro where I developed all sorts of prejudices some because of skin color, some because of wealth, some because of the side of town they came from.
Then I spent twenty years in the military eating the same mud and drinking from the same canteen, sharing the same hopes and fears as people very different from me and what I thought they were. I've known many white people and of color some weren't worth spit and couldn't be trusted with a penny wielded to a sewer cover. Then there were many more I trusted with my life and considered role models. Not one gained or lost my trust or confidence because of their skin color. So you my stupid little liar do not have a clue about what you speak of and have fallen back on the most vile of accusations as a means to cover your shortcomings of which there are obviously many. Because you see, my enlightened friend, for the last two years the Congress has been controlled by the Democrats, and we all know where Barney Frank stands! Thank you for pointing out what everybody seems to have overlooked. It is so important that people have all the facts, and not make this about racism or politics of our ancestors. You obviously already knew what has just been pointed out, that the Democrats of today are NOT the Democrats of the past! I for one am grateful to you for pointing out that the financial meltdown is a direct result of the Democratic Party and their free spending ways. As Ronald Wilson Reagan so aptly stated, "There you go again". I have never met the man, but I have seen him in action and have read enough of his posts on this blog and in the paper to know him quite well.
Does your Bible say that by one's stripes you shall know them? Does your Bible say that one's reputation precedes him?
Now, as for being obsessed with your hero, you couldn't be more wrong. No, I simply stand opposed to egotistical people who think they know it all and who talk down to those who differ with them. That has ALWAYS been my position. The "exalted one" just seems to be at the forefront of this little band of "intellectuals" who ought to be telling us how to live and what to do. And, no, I have absolutely no desire to be like that. Do you?

Now if YOUNG GILES COUNTY could pull together the same way maybe this backward little county could pull off something similar by putting some young blood in this GOOD OLE' BOY mindset here.
Wouldn't that be something!
This county could start moving forward instead of stagnating in the cesspool of do nothing government!
Or should i say "I'll Get Mine" mindset of government.
Wow we could actually see someone under the age of 50 setting in our very own Courthouse running this county & city!!

I am a white man in his 60s who grew up in Pulaski until I left to go to college. I watched Pulaski go from a segregated town to one that was making a serious attempt to disavow and repudiate its odious heritage as the founding place of the Ku Klux Klan. While I lived in Pulaski, I had not only many close white friends but also many close black ones. I have to say that though I expected McCain to carry Giles County (I am, after all, a realist), I am appalled at some of the unadulterated and venomous redneck drivel that I've read in the comments above. BUT . . . I'm also proud of the fact that at least some of the respondents to this garbage have shown that Pulaski and Giles County (I assume that most of those writing here are either present or former Giles Countians) still contains some people (at least 4,514 of them, evidently) who realize that Barack Obama stands for those things that our founders had in mind when they wrote the Constitution that some of the writers above apparently despise so much. It is those bigots who are spewing accusations of socialism and unfounded and venomous hatred who are un-American and not the intelligent and committed Americans who have elected our next president. Congratulations to 4,514 of you. As for the rest . . . you ought to be ashamed of yourselves!

Why is it bigotry and spewing accusations of socialism and unfounded and venomous hatred who are un-American and not the intelligent and committed Americans who have elected our next president because that person looks at, reads and hears the words of the candidate?
I have read both of Sen. Obama's books and listened carefully to the things he said. Voting against him had nothing to do with his skin color I would excitedly vote for Michael Steele, Walter Williams or Thomas Sowell over John McCain if given the choice and each happens to be fully black but men who love this nation.
It is the words of Obama that identify him as a socialist and the fact that in his book he refers to a paid communist as a mentor. It is the things that he has said in different places that have revealed him to be a liar. It is his refusal to show proper respect for our National Anthem that has revealed him to be unpatriotic. It is his fanciful financial plan that reveals him to be unaware of the economics of business. It is his never having a real job that reveals him to be unequipped for an executive position. It is his naive belief that just talking nice will make foreign leaders love us. It's his association with known terrorist and haters of this country that make his allegiance suspect. It is his extreme liberal voting record that makes him unacceptable to lead. It is his willful support of abortions on demand and withholding of treatment from victims of botched abortions that make him disgusting. It is all the secrecy that he has surrounded himself in that makes him a stranger. It is the way he treated "Joe the Plumber" that makes him so suitable to be part of the Chicago political mob. It's all the illegal contributions from foreign sources that makes him a criminal. It's his giving both Sen. Clinton and McCain the finger that makes him a punk. It's his years of drug abuse and selling that makes him a "crackhead". It's his promise to give everything to those who are selfish and self centered that made him electable.
None of these things had anything to do with his race only his character or lack of. The only pleasure I will have from this election will be all the people I will be able to say "I told you so" to over the next four years.
As for ashamed for not voting for this man not one nano-second of regret. Allen Barrett

I totally agree with your assessment of the socialist and radical, Barack H. Obama. These are perilous times, and it saddens me greatly to think that, in our so-called "Christian" nation, a person with his views could even pull down 30 % of the vote. But he did!
I read some statistical data concerning the number of "Christians" and Catholics in this county. According to that report, there are well over a hundred million people in these two groups combined. Now WHERE were they yesterday when the polls opened? WHY did this election turn out the way it did? HOW could a Christian or a Catholic vote for candidates who sponsor and push for abortion and gay marriage? WHY did the people elect Obama? The only conclusion I can draw is that there are a lot of so-called Christians and Catholics in this country who chose to ignore plain Bible teaching on homosexuality and the slaughter of the unborn. I believe they will have to answer for that someday. Don't you?
Now, at the risk of being called a racist by someone out there, let me share with you something one of my children who lives in a very large city up North experienced last night just after Obama was declared the winner. From the balcony of the apartment, she could see and hear a huge mob of people in the streets cursing McCain and "whitey". These people were beating on cars and buildings and screaming all kinds of very nasty things about McCain and "whitey"! Can you believe this? What they ignorantly don't see is that it was essentially "whitey" who got their man elected. Do you shudder to think what might have happened had Obama lost? I'm afraid to even speculate. I just wanted to share that little tid-bit with the readers, because you will never hear a report like that from the liberal media. And this is happening all over America!
Here's another scenario. The daughter of a friend accidentally bumped into a black guy on the street and quickly apologized. He turned to her and angrily told her that this stuff is about to change. Can you imagine what would have happened had the situation been reversed?
Yes, I'm afraid you are right that we will be able to say "I told you so" when we really start going into the toilet!

What planet have you been living on for the past couple of decades? You sound just like the typical liberal democrat. They have been thoroughly nasty and dishonest throughout the presidential campaign (Accorn, Black Panthers, liberal media smearing, etc). In addition to that, democrats love to characterize conservatives as being redneck and "not with the times". I suppose that's partially true, because conservatives still adhere to principles the vast majority of Americans used to embrace until they became so progressive and enlightened. Sorry pal, but that dog won't hunt. How do you think Christ would vote on abortion and homosexuality? I think you know the answer to that question.

I am a proud conservative who has not moved one jot or tittle away from Biblical teachings on the slaughter of the unborn for the sake of a woman's convenience. I have not waivered one bit from God's teachings on homosexuality. Have you? If my clinging to those issues makes me a backward redneck, then SO BE IT! You don't even want to go there when you talk about gun rights.

Lastly, would you believe that some of obama's statements were right out of the Karl Marx play book? Of course not, but they are. Don't take my word for it; expend some mental energy and find out for yourself instead of falling hook, line, and sinker for every liberal lie that's handed down. Shame on you.

How would Jesus vote on the war? I believe he said, "Blessed are the peacemakers" and "Pray for you enemies." How would Jesus vote on a "consistent" ethic of life? Jesus cared for those even after they left the womb. You want to do everything you can while their in the womb and forget them when they are born. We need to continue to fight for children after the womb with childcare and other necessary supports. We need to stop unwanted pregnancies by educating young people about sex and giving women meaningful alternatives and reforming adoption laws. What would Jesus say about torture and Guantanamo Bay where people are kept without Habeas Corpus? How would Jesus vote on stopping worldwide genocide and poverty? And as far as homosexuality goes, Jesus does NOT mention homosexuality ONCE in the Gospels, he DOES tell us to love each other without JUDGMENT. No matter what James Dobson, Pat Robertson, or any other right wing nut-job will tell you Americans and Christians looked at all of these moral issues and chose the best candidate.

The question you should ask yourself is this: would Jesus own a gun? Maybe try reading the WHOLE Bible instead of just the parts some preacher tells you to.

Yes, and Jesus knew and cared for them while they were yet in their mothers' wombs. Your silly argument about war is absolutely astonishing. The Bible is full of examples of war. Yes, God allows wars to happen just as he allowed our nation to become so unconcerned with things like abortion and gay rights that HE allowed a socialist to be elected president! And, no doubt, you are among those who helped him get there. I take no blame for that one.
You mentioned child care and other necessities a child needs after birth. Well, aren't children being served not only by parents but by a multitude of social services already in place? Do you suggest that the government (or the village) raise the child or that it add even more social welfare programs? Should teachers hand out condoms to students and teach them how to have safe sex? Ridiculous!
What would Jesus say about the torture at Guantanamo? How should I know? Do you? Have you forgotten that these prisoners were captured on the battlefield? Do you not realize that these people had been killing our sons and daughters? I'm not sure how badly they were "tortured" and neither do you. But, would you not agree that we should do whatever we need to do to save future American lives? And your "habeas corpus" for terrorists is a typical feel good democrat idea. What would you say if one of these prisoners was released thanks to some slick-talking liberal lawyer and allowed to return to the battlefield where he killed your son or brother? What would you say then??? Outrageous!
Finally, I don't need Pat Robertson or James Dobson to tell me what to think or what the Bible plainly teaches. You may try to salve your conscience by saying Jesus taught us to love one another, but that doesn't negate the fact that abortion and homosexuality are abominations to HIM. By the way, homosexuality and the slaughter of innocent children are both covered in the gospels. Have you not read where man lying with man is an abomination? If not, get yourself a good concordance and look up "abomination" in the index. It shouldn't be hard to find the passages. However, you must have the courage to accept the truth when it becomes obvious. Had more people done that, we wouldn't be in this mess with obama!
You can accuse me of selectively accepting some Bible and rejecting the rest, but that is simply not so. Besides, how would you know that anyway?
There's well over a hundred million Catholics and "Christians" in this country today. That being the case, I do not understand how a socialist like obama got elected. Anybody can call himself a Christian, but the real acid test is where he stands on Biblical principles. I could say that I'm a famous writer, but I cannot produce the proof. Do you get my drift?
You brought your post to an end by asking me to consider whether Jesus would own a gun? Are you insane? I doubt that HE would, but what on earth has that got to do with my right to own one? And you democrats say me are nut jobs? LAUGHABLE!!!!

Come on wab, stand with me on this.

No, the true definition of patriotism is better defined in terms of courage born of love to take a stand against those who work against peace and domestic tranquility...those who seek to cause hatred and mistrust among the citizens. My patriotism exists because of that love for both my country and Giles County. And, because of that, I will NOT be silent when a few people seem determined to cause all kinds of mischief here.
Linking lunacy and patriotism is quite a stretch. On the contrary, patriotism seeks to ward off rather than to align itself with lunacy.
I tend to see the two concepts as more diametrically opposed than synonymous.

I think you need to take a Bible refresher course. You must have had some help to be so confused.

OF COURSE, the Bible mentions homosexuals (man lying with man), The scriptures condemn such activity as an abomination. Are those scriptures in your Bible? If they are, don't you believe them? Further, do you think man will have to give an account for supporting abominable sin? If not, how do you excuse yourself for voting for politicians who enable things that are clearly taught as being sinful. How do you get around verses that warn us not to be partakers in the unfruitful works of darkness? I could go on and on in making these points, but I truly believe most who wear the name "Christian" know them already. Try as you might, you cannot get around plain teaching. And accusing people like me of being hypocrites is ludicrous. Even if I were a hypocrite, it doesn't change one single word of the Bible, does it? So your point is? Think.
By the way, true Christians have every right to call obama just what he is. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Tell me, with over 120 million combined Christian and Catholic people in this nation, how did a pro- abortion and pro-gay candidate stand a chance of getting elected?

Why does dragging out the Bible prove your opinions right or wrong?
Not everyone blindly follows the words printed in the Bible.
Some realize that it was supposed to be a teaching tool. Also if you read your history you would see that the Bible was put together by a group of MEN who decided what would be included & what wouldn't. There are lots of documents from long ago that are just as true as what was put in the King James Version. And what about other systems of belief?
Are they wrong because they don't follow the King James Version?
Peoples beliefs are a personal thing in my opinion & to try to ram them down others throats would actually be a contradiction of what was put forth in the teachings.
Apparently some people still believe that the only way to believe is their way which is simply not true.
I suppose that it gives them a sense of comfort to believe that their Heaven will be just as divided as this human race is.
Whatever happened to respect others and live & let live?
If the Bible says that things like homosexuality & divorce are some kind of sin then what does it say about "Judge not that yea be not judged?"
If God made man imperfect then why would he send them to hell for being just what he made them?
Also if God is kind & loving then why would he given human emotions & ideals like some of these post i read give him?
Stop dragging out the Bible to try & prove your points and use some good ole' common sense or facts to make your point.
Leave everyone's beliefs just what they are...Personal beliefs.

Sorry my liberal friend, but the Bible IS man's measuring stick and guide. Was there a time in your past when you too believed in it's purpose and principles? If so, then who moved left...you or me? The answer is obvious.
But if liberals like you say that conservatives like me are nuts for clinging to our guns and religion, then, as I said, SO BE IT! There was a time when most people held that same reverence and respect for God's word. Oh, but we who remain vigilant are now considered ignorant, red-necked, and backward. I never thought I'd see the day come when people I have known all my life say that homosexuality is "just another lifestyle" or that killing babies for the mother's convenience is ok. The sad thing is that I go to church with people who profess Christianity and yet close their eyes to what the scriptures clearly teach.
If I am, by your definition, ignorant and "not with the times", I must plead guilty. I agree that people have a right to their personal beliefs; when did I say they didn"t? However, with that right comes the rsponsibility to not only face truth but to embrace it.
As for God allowing human beings to experience human emotions, that goes all the way back to Adam and Eve. God gives us all an opportunity to serve Him or not. And, as for respecting others and "live and let live", I say AMEN! But would you agree that we should use that same reasoning toward drunk drivers and rapists? If not, please tell me why notNo, I will "drag out the Bible" anytime I see that it is necessary. You see, and at the risk of your accusing me of being a Pharisee or a hypocrite, I will tell you that I will drag out the Bible anytime it is needed. Like it or not, the Bible is the measuring stick by which man should live. I'm just thankful every day now that I cling to my beliefs and have not waivered.

I need to make a couple of other points. Human reasoning says that our loving God would never send a sinner to torment. He will! The modern thinking liberal tries to reason things and come to logical conclusions. To say that a loving God would not send men to hell is a good example of that.
I think God made us all imperfect beings, but homosexuality and the murder of innocent children are STILL wrong. You can excuse yourself or salve your conscience with the wisdom of the wise, but God said he would destroy the widom of the wise. Sorta frightening, isn't it?
One more point. There is nothing wrong with judging righteous judgment. I think you are trying to make that "judge not" scripture say something it doesn't. Judging others becomes wrong when we assume we know the thoughts and intents of their hearts and that we pick who is and is not rightwous. THAT is judging. But if I see a man who is totally intoxicated, am I judging if I say he is drunk? If I see two men passionately kissing, am I judging to assume or even say they are homosexual? Think.

Our "to each his own" way of life fails to recognize the horrible cost to society. It allows one to condemn stealing bread to feed a family, yet promotes deception and stealing from the same family to promote socialism. Send one to jail for telling the school board they're corrupt & make another director of the year for stealing from the publiic to expand his organization of corruption! Wonderful set up, isn't it!

1247, face it, you read Robbin Hood upside down - you're supposed to steal from the rich & give it to the poor, not steal from everybody & keep it for yourself!

I don't know of a single denomination that turns a blind eye to PLAIN Bible teachings on homosexuality and the murder of innocent children. You can argue with me all you want, but that won't change one word of scripture. So don't try to accuse me of being narrow-minded or singularly dogmatic about those teachings. Do you know of any churches in Giles County that say homosexuality and the killing of babies are ok?

So called Christians have stated in this thread that they have no problem with war, in fact it is God's will; they have no problem with torture and execution of other people, but they are guilty, right? I don't hear outrage about the atrocities occurring in Darfur and other places in Africa and around the world. Where does "thou shalt not kill" start and stop? You all obviously know more about the Bible and what God wants that I do. So why don't you teach me something? Because picking when and where to apply God's law seems a lot like moral relativism to me.

Your possibilities and choices are endless because you have no bounds or reference in your infinite journey to nowhere, without start or stop.

Because there s no internal mechanism to stop the car bombs & other feel good killings there is no reason to believe the slaughter of babies in the US is any less natural. your little world of chemically induced uphoria is more than adequate to debate anything.

Rather than writing a thesis on the fact that little round pegs fit in big square holes, sleep it off until your pupils contract & you might find the right square peg for its right square hole.

Work on it a while longer.

I'll say it again; the Bible IS the measuring stick by which mankind learns what is right and wrong. It IS the blueprint wherein man must be saved. Of course, the liberal and more "enlightened" now scoff at that, but it doesn't change its significance. And salving your conscience by denying the plain teachings of God's word or attempting to throw up a smoke screen of confusion doesn't work either. God's word is very clear about the issues of abortion and homosexuality. You can't get around it, try as you might. And if you profess Christianity and support it, God's word warns us that we will have to give an account. Don't take my word for it. Get your Bible and a good concordance and look it up. However, you must have the courage to accept the truth when it becomes obvious.
You speak of atrocities at Darfur and the torture of prisoners. Are we talking about those same prisoners who have been killing our sons and daughters in Irag and Afghanistan? Are we talking about the same ones who, when released go right back to killing Americans. And you don't think we should use whatever means, within reason, to extract vital information from them that could save lives. You have GOT to be kidding!
Here's something I have NEVER understood about liberals. You don't have a problem with the killing of unborn children, but you raise all manner of sand when it comes to the execution of a convicted murderer. Why is thta? You libs would fight to save the murderer but support with your votes those who kill the innocent. Please help me understand that. Try to make it simple enough that this gun owning, Bible thumping conservative can understand! It's clear that round pegs do not fit into square holes, but your logic with regard to the issues just mentioned are, in my humble opinion, both unwise and dangerous. That is, if you believe in God.

Where are you on this debate? You know very well that the issues of abortion and homosexuality are condemned by God. You have been quite mute on this. I have to believe that you are on vacation or something.

I took your advice and looked at my concordance. I looked up the word "enemy" here's what I found. I'll even use the KJV so that you can hear how God really talks. Because God speaks in Middle English.

Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you

Luke 6:27 But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you

Luke 6:35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

Now what part of love your enemies means torturing them until they say what the torturers want to hear? Doesn't that make us as bad as those we are trying to defeat? By the way, you use the term "liberals" I am not a liberal. I detest abortion, but I believe the solution is not a government sanctioned banning of abortion, but to make abortion irrelevant. That is to prevent unwanted pregnancies. That requires education, not handing out condoms to kids, but telling teens the possible consequences of their actions. Abstinence only sex ed doesn't work. Just look at Sarah Palin's teenage daughter. What I am trying to get you to understand is that being "pro-life" means more than "saving innocent babies" it means being consistent in considering ALL human life and yes that means considering the lives of our enemies. Have you considered that maybe our actions in Gitmo have created more terrorists? Al Qaeda is recruiting new people night and day because of our actions. That is not fiction that is a fact. Let us look to ourselves and how our own actions are promoting violence against our sons and daughters.

Looks like you went to a lot of trouble trying to convince me that we should love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. Do you think our sons and daughters should throw down their guns in Irag and Afghanistan and go out to tell the enemy that we love them? You have got to be kidding, right? I'm glad the "great Generation" of WWII didn't fall for that logic. We would be speaking German today.
But I do agree with you that Christian people should pray for thewir enemies. The scriptures bear that out just as clearly as it does the abomination of homosexuality and the killing of children who, alive, are still in the mother's womb.
I'm still troubled by your sympathy for those who seek to kill not only our sons and daughters but the destruction of our nation. Why don't you go ask a few combat veterans what they think of your compassion for the enemy? I just hope one of them doesn't knock your block off.
As for teaching abstinence in public schools, that's a great idea. However, it doesn't stop unexpected pregnancies. And, for the sake of convenience, killing the innocent is still wrong and condemned in the Bible. Teaching kids how to put condoms on bananas is not gonna get it either!

Why didn't you tackle the question about abortion and the execution of convicted murderers? Please explain the "feel good" mentality of a liberal who has no qualms about putting innocent children to death for the sake of convenience while fighting tooth and nail for the rights of the murderer.
By the way, those prisoners you spoke of get three good meals a day and clean clothes. That is far better treatment than Americans received at the hands of enemies in past wars. And to think the liberal wants them to receive habeas corpus is absolutely outrageous. I really think you should talk to a few vets about that to get their perspective. But, be carefulk and don't say the wrong thing. If you do, be prepared to duck!

I might as well be arguing with the tree out in my yard. I am done with this crap. Nothing I say I going to change your mind anyway. So believe whatever you want to believe, close you mind to any other ideas and demonize those who bring them. I will say this lastly, you're going to be surprised when you see Jesus because he is not going to be who you expect. God bless you and Merry Christmas.

Yes, I'm afraid you are absolutely right about not changing me. I believe in the same things I've embraced for many years. I've not waivered or moved left with the so-called "enlightened" progressives who scoff at the very things most Americans used to believe. I trust God's word and do not question Him. If that makes me close-minded, then so be it. I will NOT apologize for my faith, nor will I be silent on the abominable sins of abortion and homosexuality. It's unfortunate that the Bible's clear warnings about homosexuality and abortion would offend a lot of professed Christians. Either way you slice it, these things are wrong, according to God's word.I suppose all of us will be surprised when we see the Lord. I'm not quite sure what you meant by that, but I will agree. He will come as a thief in the night.
Before you go, please let me just say I was unaware that you were trying to change my mind. The irony of it is that I was doing my best to change yours. I suppose we could call it a draw?
May I also say God bless you and your family? I also hope you have a Merry Christmas as well.

I think that one thing we CAN agree on is that God reigns and is sovereign. I think given the chance we would find we agree on more things than we disagree on.

I'm sorry if I seemed to be missing, just been involved with some other matters, but I thought you were handling the subject very adequately. No one who knows me has any doubt where I stand on the matters of sexual perverts being married to each other and the murder of innocent children. They also know how displeased I am with the disrespect shown toward traditional marriages and the abuse of children by parents and others.
God's clear intention with the establishment of marriage and family as the foundation of society was that one man and one woman would be married one time forever and spend all their knowledge and energy developing a functioning, loving family relationship beneficial for raising children. Unfortunately God's will isn't always carried out by His imperfect creations.

I thank you for speaking the truth on these two vital issues. I have been fighting a liberal on my own, and your support is greatly appreciated. I know what the gospels teach and I am certain that a lot of people will have to give account someday.
Isn't it interesting to debate a democrat (aka liberal)? They are so easily defeated and most don't even realize it.

So i guess the dead sea scrolls that were found was just like the moon landing ...a bunch of made up stuff huh?
If you just ignore them then they don't matter huh?
there is only one way to believe & by God you better not deviate from it or you will go to hell!!!
What a bunch of hysterical way to think of life. So sad.
Don't dare open your mind to any reasonable way of looking at the world as some of the greatest historians in the world have researched very real evidence that exist. Sit upon your high horse & condemnd anyone who does not conform to your ideas & beliefs send them to your so called hell to burn forever. Boy I sure hope when you die & get to meet your maker he lives up to your expectations if not & he is more understanding & forgiving than you are then you are surely gonna be screwed!!!!!

7:12pm; this may be so far down the "ladder" of posts that is goes unnoticed, but I feel I would be a huge hypocrite if I didn't speak up as soon as I noticed this post. I do so hope I am misinterpreting what you said, trust me it's been known to happen, and I will gladly admit my misunderstanding and apologize if that is the case.... That being said, are you actually saying that:
"Don't dare open your mind to any reasonable way of looking at the world as some of the greatest historians in the world have researched very real evidence that exist. ": by believing in things that cannot actually be physically touched with human hands do not carry as much weight as those that "real" historians have discovered? Does that sometimes, but actually not very often fly in the very face of TRUE, ABSOLUTE, UNCONDITIONAL FAITH?" Most things in so called "scientific factual publications" actually prove the Biblical account, but when there is a conflict, I put all my "eggs" in one basket, that being the HOLY SCRIPTURES, every time. Funny, it seems to me that the more science tries to disprove the BIBLE, the more it actually ends up proving it true. One example, the "hot potato" issue of evolution. I have NO problem buying into most of the theories regarding this controversial topic. (please notice the word most!) However, I also know that for the evolutionary process did not just spontaneously begin. Something or someone created a condition that began the tedious process. Wonder what that was? "Big Bang" maybe. Sure and the big bang named Katrina hit New Orleans and the Gulf Coast and created a beautiful second garden of Eden.....Anybody want to buy some "beach front property in Arizona? How 'bout a bridge or a tunnel in NYC? Makes about as much sense..."Faith is not knowing GOD can! Faith is knowing GOD WILL! (and DID). Like I said, I hope I misunderstood the intent of your post, it wouldn't be the first and I'm sure it won't be the last. But if I am wrong, I won't hesitate to correct my mistake.
