Pay Raises For Some?????

At the Budget Committee Meeting on the 28th a request was made for a 10% salary increase ($6,175.00) for the Circuit Court Clerk. While Mrs. Greene gave a reasonable and extensive justification for the salary increase it seems that life is not as simple as "A" is followed by "B" and "C".
The question is not one of whether Mrs. Greene deserves, needs or should have a raise. Her salary is paid out of the fees charged by her office so a raise would not be taken directly out of taxpayer funds.
Here's the problem, the state has a structured pay schedule for some officials. By law the county executive most make at least 5% more than any other elected official in the county. The sheriff and the Highway Supervisor must make 10% more than any other elected official excluding the county executive. These salaries are taken out of the general funds of the county, which means a near 25% of these salaries would be an annual liability against an already broken county budget. By state mandate elected officials received a 4.89% salary increase earlier this year. In this time of financial crisis when many can not even find a job is it reasonable to give a near 15% salary increase to anyone especially those already making in excess of $60,000.00 a year from taxpayers.
This matter was tabled by the Budget Committee Tuesday until Mrs Garner could provide a more exact dollar amount the county would be responsible for. Look for this to come up in the November County Commission Meeting. I urge everyone to call their commissioners and the county executve and voice your support or dissatisfaction with this plan. Allen Barrett

And yet another negative thread. Way to go wab. Keep stirring thing up. Your admirers and followers think you are wonderful. Forgive me as I don't share that same enthusiasm.

Amazing...your so transparent anonymous. You clearly have a direct connection to our county government. Why would anyone object to questioning spending? Our military doesn't even get a raise of such magnitude and they are the ones fighting for our rights to freedom.
I don't care what the state mandates. No in county or state government should be getting ridiculous increases in pay raises. We know most county government positions in this county already exceed the surrounding counties. The cost of living is minimal in our region for the most part and does not reflect the ridiculous salaries we pay for some of these positions. If you have ever lived anywhere besides Giles County you would know that. Problem is the enlightened few have lived elsewhere and have the sense to know the difference. I would love to see a great many of those in Giles try to make it living somewhere else. Not only would they appreciate their community here, but they would realize that they are a small fish in a big pond anywhere else. The importance certain individuals appear to think they have here would diminish if they ever were to ever leave and make their home somewhere else. The corruption in this county is at an all time high. The funny thing is you can't stop it because it runs so deep and those corrupt ones have someone higher up looking out for them and helping them get off the hook. Namely our director of schools. He is the biggest crook Giles has had in a long time.

More times than not, I do not agree with WAB, but I do not see this as a negative thread. He made a statement, then asked for opinions....both positive and negative.

My opinion is that now is not the time to ask for a 10% pay raise. We are in the most difficult times of most of our lives. Most will not be getting raises this year. This is a very selfish act of Mrs. Green and whoever put her up to it.

Lots of crap about state mandates. It's a smoke screen to blame someone else for reckless spending.

Big raises & promotion for loyal bookkeeper. A million or more for a the stupid admin nest. Adding endless bureaucracy. Matching funds % doesn't grow because ??? (we know)

Dog ate the book of reasons & financial records??? Works for the children!

Mr. Barrett, you are correct! This county executive brings everything in the back door!!
She has taken this county for a good ride since she took office (illegal per state law, lives now and always in Lincoln County) and uses the law to her advantage everyway she can! Suggest to Clerk or Sheriff they should ask for a raise (doing such a good job and all) knowing that it will automatic give her one.
Look at her record, what she has said on WKSR, the local paper and in minute of meetings which all are public records! Then look what she did. She is qualified to run for Congress with her TWO FACED promises. You can tell when she is lieing, her lips are moving.
When you talk to your respective commissioner, ask that they start Impeachment procedures on HER with an investigation by the State D.A. and let the chips fall where they may.
I bet we will have more people leaving the county governments ranks then her, because she has hired a lot of her friends the same way, this by one that was against the "good of boy" way of doing things. Changed it to the "good old girl" way!

We need to start now looking for a candidate to run for county exec. Vanzant has got to go. She is single handedly running the finance office. Partly because she is a controlling b@#$% and partly because Loretta Garner has not a backbone. Speaking of Garner, I thought there was supposed to be some oversight when she was crowned finance director. Wasn't that he whole idea? Making sure we had checks and balances and things were done above board, etc. Her and her cohort sigmond must have received their education from the same place. Both are totally inadequate for their jobs. Bills up there are not being paid on time and my question is why, why, why? Have you ever listened to Garner speak in a meeting. Horrible grammar and appears to have no clue about anything she is talking about. Don't ask her a question, she never has an intelligent answer, that is when she is able to tell you anything at all. She constantly is looking for assurance from anyone that can give it to her. Helloooo....Loretta you are the one in charge!! You know, the one making the big bucks!! Shouldn't you have the answers? I mean, at the very least try and look to some degree confident when you speak. There you go...our good ole taxpaying dollars at work for us. I believed in and voted for the act of 1981 but, someone is either sabotaging it or totally clueless. Which leads to my next question. What was the finance committee thinking when they were conducting these interviews for a finance director? Clearly, all they thought about was make sure and get someone not of color and the person must either be easy to manipulate or already corrupt.
Things will never change in this county until we successfully have her defeated in the next election. We need to pull together as a community and begin vetting someone capable to be our county exec. that will not have a personal agenda and with only the best interest of the citizens of this county in mind. I know it will be hard to find such a person. However, I am looking for suggestions from anyone. Please give your suggestions on this blog.

If you have evidence of wrongdoings, turn it over to the proper authorities. Other than that, just go vote your conscience. That's the democratic way isn't it?

Didn't the county officials know what the pay was when they ran two years ago? And didn't they (the Officials) get a mandated raise just this year to make Ms. Greene's salary $61,750.00? Greed!
Giles County is losing jobs day by day but we seem to have county officials wanting more and more. Where does it stop! Next election, maybe.

You are right change begins with electing a new slate of county officials. We need to start with our county exec. and work our way down. Perhaps, Greene would be better fitted for one of the other jobs in the courthouse with much less pay and responsibility. I sure hope citizens remember her requesting this raise in about 18 months when it is time for our county election. She sealed her fate with that request.

If you are middle-class like me, aren't you excited? Obama has promised to help us! Right! Wonder when we will receive our first "income redistribution" checks, compliments of the achievers in this society? It won't matter if the rich man lays me off to cut his tax losses. Like a bloodsucker, I'll live off his taxes.

Jesus may not have been a Republican but I am CERTAIN he had conservative ideals. How do I know that? I know that because of His teachings with regard to homosexuality and the murder of innocent children. It's just a shame and a disgrace that many of his "followers" chose to vote for politicians who sponsor and promote both activities. I keep wondering why they think they will never have to give an answer for that. I also keep wondering why wab hasn't written in support of what I just said.
