Slick Move By County Executive, Commissioner Holt and Lovell
With all the cunning of a Chicago politician the budget was presented under different terminology this morning, seconded and approved before commissioners even realized they had just voted to approve the budget without even a word of discussion.
Not since the meeting where newly elected commissioners were conned into voting on a controversial procedure they had never heard of has their been such smooth underhandedness displayed.
After the meeting when commissioners realized what had just happened several began to apologize for having voted for the budget believing it would be the second item on the agenda. At least seven commissioners acknowledged that they did not realize they were voting to approve the budget.
Only Commissioners Flacy, Pollard, Reedy and James Harwell voted against approval. Commissioner then changed his vote to approve. Allen Barrett

Did the speaker manipulate the use of the English language to cause the commissioners to misunderstand what they were voting on or were they simply not paying attention. Either way, it says a lot about the so-called educated people who have been elected to be the voice of the people. This is a complete case of gross negligence on their part. Pathetic isn't it.
This speaks volumns regarding how the county is run and why we need a Charter form of government. Tommy Campbell is correct in stating that the county has been run in a certain manner for over 200 years. About time the citizens demand responsible and intelligent government.

I don't think Iit's a slick move, just tells me we have several comm. that can't or doesn't read the agenda. What a shame !!
I arrived a few minutes late and it went so fast I began to think I had been a hour late.
Several commissioners were definitely hoodwinked. I would address the "slicked" commissioners issue in this way... Perhaps they should have been more aware of what was going on, but they apparently do not understand the level of cunning and deceit certain people will go to in order to get their way. Or, at best, they were caught by surprise and were not on guard this morning.
I do agree with the comment about charter government. It MUST, however, be done correctly.
Are the commissioners trying to cover their own rear end by saying that or they to dumb to be a commissioner? Maybe they did know what was going on and to big of a coward to vote against.
Don't they know how some people try to pull the wool over our eyes?
Wake up commissioners, don't let that happen again.
Health Care is being voted on and they haven't read it... so don't know what it says. That seems to be the way of our county and country.
I was there, and no, I didn't get the impression anyone was trying to cover themselves. What I did see is several commissioners who had a "I've been had" look and were truly apologetic.
At least in the future they will perhaps be on their guard.
Many of these commissioners that were confused and upset are long time commissioners. Granted they should have perhaps paid more attention but, in the past it has been worded differently. Too much speculation that Vanzant was trying to hoodoo the commissioners and ultimately the citizens for it to have been merely because of not paying attention. Vanzant was in a hurry to get this budget passed and the commissioners knew it.And she knew there were going to be questions. She needs to watch out though because she is growing more and more unpopular by the minute and her allies are quickly becoming her enemies. If she plans to run again next year, she will definitely see the repercussions of her deeds at the polls. Not to mention if a good candidate runs against her. I was cheering her on last election and with her the night the votes were counted as many were. I know of a great many that were there with me that will not be supporting her next time. All of this because she can't be an honest person. To lie to one is one thing to lie to the masses is another. She has even lied to those who called her a friend. What a shame!
Commissioners are given a printed Agenda. Vanzant changed the agenda without many commissioners being aware she had done it.
Time for that woman from Lincoln Co to go home.
With only 2 items on the agenda, I'm sure the comm. knew what was going on. I think they were apologetic to cover their own behinds to get re-elcted nex year.
Your reference to a "slick move" suggests something sinister going on. Must there always be "corruption" and a "they are trying to do us in" paranoid mentality?
Thanks for answering my question about the commissioners not understanding. I'm miles away and couldn't be there to know.
I also voted for Janet, but want no more.
I would like to address all those who religiously take up for the elected city and county officials as well as those hired in to high ranking public office. The bottom line is this: Had certain political officials not abused their power and priviledges, there would not be as much questions and concerns about every aspect of government business. These few have caused the citizens to loose all trust, therefore it is only human for one to be sceptical about the going-ons in public office. Therefore it is not fair to be so critical and harsh people who are simply wanting to know the answers to questionable actions made by undependable, unreliable and untrustworthy political officials.
The person using the word sinister in every entry to the blog needs to look the word up first, then try to broaden their vocabulary. I am so sick of every reponse from that person having sinister in it. If you dont have a dictionary, let me define it for you, it means threatening harm, evil or wicked. That has nothing to do with what is being discussed. Try saying corrupt, stealing tax money, misappropriations, embezzlement. Those words are fitting to the topic at hand.
6:31
Then those few who abused their positions need to be voted out of office. If the violations are flagrant, then ouster proceedings are an avenue to explore. But beating anyone and everone you suspect of something "SINISTER" is not the right approach.
6:39
Thank for the vocabulary lesson, but I already know what the word means. By the way, are you now answering wab's posts for him? I realize he's busy out trying to stir up something, but I would think he could at least find time to respond to questions asked of him and not of you.
I called a commissioner to get clarification on what happened, as I was there and I'm telling all of you it was not clear to me what happened.
From the mouth of one commissioner, here's what happened:
They voted on the non-profit appropriations and there was a malfunction with the equipment which they are using to vote. Roger Reedy revealed his vote was not counted. So the county mayor, without announcing passage (if she did this writer also missed it) of the non-profit agenda entry asked if they should redo the vote.
Then it was moved, and seconded that they have a voice vote. I assumed it was a voice vote to re-vote on what they just had the problem with, the non-profit appropriations. So did this commissioner. I think this was a good assumption since the former botched vote was not clearly declared by the county mayor.
Again, if she announced the result of the vote taken when the machine malfunctioned I also missed it.
So they held the voice vote. After the voice vote the County Mayor announced the budget had passed.
I say let's look at the video for clarification.
Folks, I think those corrupt people are out to do us all in? Don't you? I predict soup lines, tent cities, and more for Giles County by the time "they" are finished with is.
I was not there so I have no idea what happened but it sounds like we have some commissioners who are not paying attention. I would like to hear a tape of the meeting. Can the public get a copy of the meeting. I woul assume that the item number or what is being voted on is said before an actual vote. Does the mayor not ask if there is any discussion before a vote? I think that is Robert's Rule right? The meetings I have been to the commissioners are not paying attention or talking to each other.
Let's see the tape!
If this is true, can the vote be overturned and the budget re-voted on? Also if this is true, and the budget can not be revoted on, then what recompense do we, the tax paying citizens of Giles county have? I would like to see the video of this meeting myself.
It's on P3TV today and will be all month. Watch it and form your own opions not what people say on this blog. I ay the comm. didnt pay attenion as to what was going on. Watch it you'll see.
Most voters in Giles County do not get P3TV. What good does that do us. Is there an internet source where we can see these tapes that everyone says are on the local TV?
P3TV, I assume is the PES Energize/Martin College station. I wish I could see it. Unfortunately it is not available county wide. But that is a topic for another thread....
You can get a copy of the tape from P3TV Martin at a cost of $20 each.
Perhaps the commissioners did drop the ball. I was also there, and I thought they were re-voting on the non-profit appropriations.
You needed to be there. Witnessing in real time an auto accident is much different than viewing a video of the same. Or, watching a play of a football game is much different than viewing the video.
I am anxious to see the video, but also don't get the service I helped/am helping to fund.
Yea, I'm going to pay $20.00 for something I ALREADY have helped to fund. NOT
I also don't get the service, and I don't particularly have $20 to spend on the video. PES should make it available on a web site.
The Real Deadman, you are 100% correct.
FREE! FREE! That's what we want - something FREE! Corruption! Corruption! Let's have Metro gov't voted in to the county.
Don't get so angry.
2:44
I'm not sure I understand what you mean, but if you are saying ANYTHING coming from PES, or the County Government, or Martin College for that matter is free, I suggest you take another look. PES is owned/funded by the people, the county government is certainly funded by the people, and Martin receives a great deal of funding through the government in the way of loans, grants to students, and direct grants.
2:44
It's not a metro style of government we are seeking; we are looking at a Charter form of government. There are significant differences between the two. Tommy Campbell has been spreading around disinformation that we are seeking a Metro form of government. Please understand that a Charter form of Government is what we want in Giles County.
Two things were very clear in the budget committee meeting leading up to the council vote.
1) Mrs. Howell questioned the county support of Dan Speer & Co. There is no contractual basis for the funding and it should have been removed from the county budget!!!!
donm
2) School funding is grossly over funded and that money must be taken back! In spite of gross overspending, employees did not receive raises! There is more than enough overspending that can be removed to properly pay legitimate people employees!
That budget committee meeting was slammed shut by Holt in the middle of Reedy trying to discuss some real issues! No comments were allowed!
That worked, so the full commission meeting ended in the same manner, without discussion or action on meaningful spending control! It's past time to let all people know that this conduct is not acceptable or respectable in Giles County! Shame is a minimum reward for breach of trust.
There is such a thing as a "budget amendment". That is an opportunity for commissioners who were made a fools of, to set the record and actions right. DEMAND IT!
FORCE THE BOARD OF EDUCATION TO BE ACCOUNTABLE! WE ARE SPENDING WAY MORE MONEY THAN REQUIRED BY BEEP (STATE) TO MEET ACCEPTABLE FUNDING STANDARDS. WHY FUND THE SPEER DYNASTY?! TAKE ALL OF THE MONEY BACK! PASS POLLARD'S TAX RELIEF! ADJUST PAY OF NECESSARY WORKERS FOR INFLATION. RESTORE RESERVES WITH THE REST OF THE FAT THAT IS JUST BEGGING TO BE CUT!
I don't want a metro form of government under any circumstances! That is one reason I am for a county charter! We have more than one tax crazed politician who would love to tax our beautiful countryside out of existance. I don't want to live where some liberal idiot can run my life, confine me to a high rise kennel, or tell me what color and how high my grass will be. I love freedom and independence! I hate socialism and oppression! Stuff it!
Before it gets to that point I want the right to throw someone out of office! Otherwise I care less how the offices are run as long as necessary services are provided and they stay out of my pocket! Minimally a charter will give me that option!
How would a charter form of government prevent this from happenning? We keep electing persons who are not capable of doing decent jobs, and we have too many commissioners. This is really a joke! And our county government is 21 clowns let by the biggest bozo of them all!
1:30
Suggest you get involved with the charter effort and learn what the citizens can demand; such as, term limits for elected officials, reduction in the number of commissioners, required balanced budget that is presented in a lineitem manner, line item veto of unnecessary budget items, education and/or experience requirements for elected officials, ect
1:03
Haven't you seen the dream team of prospective county officials?
Everyone ignore her. Maybe she will go away.
You ever seen a woman in a foxhole? Hardy har har!
Who is "everyone?" You make it sound like this is some sort of exclusive club. Maybe it is.....for whiners!
Are you the blog spokesperson? What a laugh.
11:07 Right on! We MUST ALL show up to county/city meetings in numbers and regularly to make a difference. If we demand OUR RIGHT to be heard, things WILL change! Hang in there.
103 - We have some excellent honest commissioners with common sense, who are learning how to deal with the idiot minority of education minded shysters!
They need our support, not ridicule as if they are in the cahoots with those who think public office is an opportunity for private gain & dictatorial rule!
Citizens are justifiably angry, but keep things in relative perspective! Keep a record of all the two bit crap that goes on & make sure every voter knows about it in the next election - facts & not fiction!
8:15
Good post. Everyone in county government is not a crook and liar. People are justifiably angry at those who are. They should exercise their right to vote them out anytime they come up for election. That's the way to do it.
Again, good post.
That obligation goes beyond individual districts. We have to morally and vocally support good people in other districts. Their frustration must be equal or even greater than ours. It has to be a terrible feeling to realize bad people can pull the wool over your eyes & underhanded crap like this subject happens! It can happen to any one of us. It's at a point where "trust" is used against us - it's the nature of fraud.
The bad actors need to feel so much pressure & guilt that they are ashamed to show their face in town! Trouble is, a couple of them have no shame, conscience, or character.
No more corruption if we have Metro gov't. Come on people, join us in our efforts to overthrow those who want to lead us to damnation. Think about all the positions that can be unified or eliminated. Charter gov't--NO WAY. Guess who leads that group.
So, here I am the novice on the block. I try to be uo to date, but somethings I haven't had time to look up. What exactly is the difference between metro and charter government, and where can I find information on both?
Corruption? Overthrow? String words, wouldn't you think?
Strong. Excuse the typo.
1030 - guess who leads you & pulaski? Speared? No matches with metro for a reason. Some people are capable of thinkin and providing for themselves! Think you are going to be the ruler & take possession of the golden goose?
Communists want to rule everyone, make decisions for everyone, & can't stand to see someone do for themselves!

Go to the Tennessee Code Annotated Title 7 Consolidated Governments Chapters 1-8 discuss the Metro form of government, how rto creat one and what it can do. Chapter 21 discusses a Charter for m of Government, how to form one and what it does.
Saw the county comm. meeting----- nothing slick went on that I could here or see. Volume was very clear what was said. I don't understand all the confusion on the blog.
The confusion was in the way the thing was worded. The budget was presented as an appropriations which caused most to understand that the appropriations for the charities were being voted on.
Had the budget been presented after Reedy changed his vote and clearly announced it would have had much discussion if not votedf down.
The difference between a metro form of government and adopting a county charter is as vast as the difference between the Grand Canyon and the 18 inch wide ditch near my house.
The Charter or Home Rule has nothing to do with Pulaski or any other incorporated city in the county. Some are trying to confuse this issue by continually referring to it as metro government, it is not. The signs in the Courthouse placed by Commissioner Campbell states the obvious "We've done the same thing in Giles County for 200 years why change now?" Relying on what worked 200 years ago is much of what has caused Giles to lag behind most other counties in the state.
A Charter would allow for such things as the election of a school superintendent instead of having one appointed by the school lobby in Nashville. There can be a requirement that any tax increases must be approved by the people. Term limits could be placed on elected officials. There are many things that could be incorporated by the Charter Committee that will be elected next year. Election of people to this committee who are in tune with and willing to listen to the people is so vital to the success of this program. Get prepared to run for these positions and to vote by reading the Tennessee Code Annotated, listen to what your friends and neighbors desire for Giles County and ignore anyone who tries to tell you this is a move to Metro government. Allen Barrett
Read http://gileshomerule.blogspot.com/ where you can read a draft copy of what COULD BE in a county charter if people vote for it when the time comes .
August 3, 10:30 p.m.
Can't guess. Who leads the charter group?
Some lead and some stand on the sidelines cheering then there are some like bozo 6:39 that don't have the guts to lead or the sense to get out of the way. Bozo just puts on his make up and wig hair and day dreamsabout being WAB.
1030pm From what I'm reading, the one who leads the Charter Group, is the one YOU help elect. Or are you one of those who doesn't vote and the whines about what happens?
Why would the same people who are not elected not be elected under a charter? This is just another Financial Management fiasco. If the same people are in power then nothing changes. Am I the only one who sees this. Just because we get a charter does not mean that the same people are not in charge. The only change I see is director of school possibly but even that could stay the same.
6:45
There you go again calling names. I'm the one you love to call Bozo, Dumbo, etc., but I'm not the one you are attacking. So, you're not nearly as smart as you think yuo are.
deadman
No, you guys do enough whining for us all. But I am glad that you can see that the electoral process (voting) is a viable way of affecting change.
8/4 6:45
I asked a perfectly straighforward question and you insult me with your response.
Perhaps someone different will respond when I again ask the question as to who leads the Charter Group. Thanks.
I don't think the "Home Rule" people have officially chosen "leaders" at this point.
I went to the website and looked.
http://gileshomerule.blogspot.com/
I thought I read on another thread that WAB is the leader of the home rule effort. Can anyone confirm that.
From what I read, "The Home Rule" is just a group that are trying to get a charter government in to Giles County. The "Leaders" are those that the voters choose to be as always.
I am embarrassed at Bill Holt's behavior. No only did he create a vulgar scene at the ball park when his grandson didnt make the grade, he then pulls a stunt at the commission meeting, succeeding when he and Lovell got the new budget through the commissioners waiting to speak. Did anyone besides me notice the five commissioners effected didnt even declare their conflict? And even Vanzant didnt raise the problem. Then we have Bill Holt chairman of the budget, chairman of the finance, on the economic development board, all these things add up. Past time for Holt, Lovell, & Campbell to be voted out of office next year along with Janet Vanzant (our wonderful county mayor who lives in Lincoln County on Vanzant road conveniently with the road signs removed)
Amen 10:20!!! You are right on target. Not to mention the way Holt quickly adjourned the finance meeting yesterday. He would not allow the public to speak. Several there had questions. Campbell and Vanzant are rude when conducting these meetings. Roger Reedy was trying to ask questions and Vanzant sat there with a sour look on her face and her mouth twitching about. Campbell and Vanzant popped off their smart mouths as if they are in control and everyone else that doesn't see eye to eye with them is stupid. What is this about paying for health insurance premiums for part-time employees? On the back of the taxpayer of course. Who authorized this slick move and how long has it been going on? Why did Vanzant stomp off without answering the question? Perhaps, she was a deer caught in headlights. Loretta Garner is an utter disappointment and joke. She takes her cue from Vanzant. Vanzant left her high and dry to answer that question. However, no answer was given that made a lick of sense. I will say this though, Lovell is not happy with the way the meeting was just adjourned without any word from the public. Lovell is not a bad guy, don't always agree with him but, for heaven's sake don't peg him with the likes of Vanzant, Holt and Campbell. That is a great miscalculation!! Yeah, where is the signage for Vanzant road. Is it because it has been taken down so as not to be able to locate where Vanzant lives in Lincoln County? Ha ha ha...every heard of google maps??? You can take down signage but in this day and time with the internet and GPS I guess it goes without saying, "you can run, but you can't hide". HEHEHEHEHE.....what a joke Vanzant is!!!!!!!!
Yea I agree, that Bill Holt can't control his temper and doesn't need to be acting the way he does in front of people, especially kids! Bill, do the citizens of Giles Co. a big favor and resign off of the County boards you serve on, the Exchange Club.....everything.
Including County Commission. You're doing it all for all the wrong reasons!
Heard he had resigned from the Exchange Club, quite soon after his latest showing of butt.
Yes, I heard the same thing, but I also heard that he was asked to not resign.
Heard Billy Bully Bad Boy Holt needs the money, someone said he can't manage $$ very well. Doesn't look like he will ever quit being principal. For sure the board of ed is not going to do anything to him. Go to the board meeting Thursday, August 13th and see for yourself! ALL commissioners come up for election in 2010 - VOTE THEM OUT!!
Also have heard Bill Holt cant manage money very well yet his cohorts elected him as chairman of the county budget committee. Go figure. No wonder the county budget is so screwed up with Holt, Vanzant and Garner running it.
7:49
Now you are beginning to get it. If you aren't happy with elected officials, vote them out! That's the electoral process.
By the way did you know that Ron Holcome has resigned from PES?
Yes, my point exactly 8:13. Sometimes you don't have to wait for the electoral process to take place. Some folks just do themselves in. Just like Dan is doing and Janet Vanzant. I wonder which one of them will be the next to go? I can't wait to see the fireworks!!!
One down and several more to go!!!!
Dan Speer, Janet Vanzant, Terry Harrison, Stoney Jackson, Tee Jackson, Tommy Campbell, Bill Holt, Jerry Bryant, Larry Polly and on and on we go!!! Yea!!! And did I mention DAN SPEER!!! Yea I did!!! Run Holcomb run, and take your cohorts with you!
I like the way you think 8:52!!
I hope the PES Power Board -who are the 'owners' of the system on behalf of its customers -run some very thorough and complete audits by independent auditors very soon .
Does Holcombs contract allow him to just quit ? It's badly written (city attorney ? ) if it does due to the disruption it could cause PES .
Another reason to get rid of that Board of acolytes and put in some people who know how to run a big business .
Sparky
I'm surprise Ron Holcom resigned.
That sounds like he knew he did something wrong.
Are you sure he rsigned?
TO: Friday, August 07, 2009 10:00:00 AM. So Friday, August 07, 2009 8:52:00 AM thinks? Thinks what? Are the members of the Keyboard Mob on this blog going to run and show how it should be done by seeking office? Jumping in there as a group and getting the job done? Probably not - sounds like the usual anonymous hot air.

Wonder how many hundreds of thousands od dolars Dan is paying Ron to resign ??
Why would Dan pay Ron to resign?
Does Ron have something on Dan?
Or does he plan to get Ron's job?
The big question is why did he resign? Makes him look guilty of something.
Why must someone always be guilty of something?
Thought you wasn't going to come on the blog again.
Well, I haven't been on this blog before, but I have read some of it. And it is sickening how so many people seem always to look for the negatives in everything -- nothing or no one is ever good enough.
Here we go again! Yeah, it is a shame that people have to be so dishonest and cause people to think like they do. But, whose fault is that??? People have to suffer the reprecussions of their actions. When it is a public figure that humiliation and criticisms is public. That alone should keep people honest but, it doesn't. People think they can fool you and lie and will never get caught. I for one am proud of those who are taking a stand. It goes to show you that if nothing wrong had occurred then resignations and other actions wouldn't be taking place. Sorry to those who have been let down by those dishonest folks but, they should be disgruntled with those who have done wrong and not those who have demanded accountability and answers. You can mask over problems and wrongdoing before it works its way to the surface.

What is your thoughts about the meeting of July 31st? That is the topic of this post is about.
It's the same idiot having another conversation with herself - trying to drag anyone she can down to her level of sickness.
628 Yours was a very worthwhile comment. It helps keep "doing the right thing" in perspective.
Fighting corruption is very risky. No one wants to get in the crossfire of a power structure that has no bounds or morals. The choice is little more than perspective - a bit like the proverbial RCMP Mounty & the rat who ties damsels to the RR tracks.
God's warriors are here to fight deception and corruption, not to tolerate and jump in bed with it!
God's warriors??????????
WKSR has Power board meeting announced @ 10 am PES building Tuesday-- 2nd floor..to discuss resignation (I'd personally want to resign having to go through all that right or wrong--whew) Also I believe there is a Pulaski City Council "work" session at noon--to discuss Mayor's reccomendation for appointments. Those are the ones that people need to go to (work session)---they aren't televised for some reason. That's were all the "stuff happens" and why the televised council meetings go so fast....already been decided
I am sure at this point Mr. Holcomb wants to have anything else left to do with Pulaski. He was treated like a criminal and subjected to unfair criticism. You must remember he is a utility professional, not a politician. If the people want to get rid of the Mayor, then get rid of the Mayor at election time. You put him in office. But don't drag a good man like Ron Holcomb down. Pulaski will soon realize what a big mistake they made in running Mr. Holcomb out of town.
If Holcomb wasn't guilty of anything wrong he shouldn't of resigned. That just made the people that was for him think he did something wrong.
He has a good wife and two wonderful sons.

What intelligence we have. What would it take for someone to do right in the eyes of everybody in this county? I surely hope we find those people to lead us, but only Jesus was perfect.
Let me see over 300,00 spend without prior approval at the pole yard, all spent without a legal bid from contractors, violations of the law and city rules. Don't people stop being good when theyt start doing bad things?
6:58, Not necessarily is the answer to your question. Sometimes "good" people make mistakes and do bad things. We all have at some point.
That being said, when bad things are done by a public official and public trust is betrayed, consequences should be swift. That should be the case with anyone. Certainly would be less problems if adults AND children were allowed to suffer the consequences of their actions. The only disagreement I have with your post is the last statement. But nobody says we have to agree 100 per cent.
Deanna
I wonder how many more professionals Giles Countians will chase away?
How many more families will pull their children from this sub-par school system and send them elsewhere?
When will people wake up and do something to move this county forward in a positive fashion? Not tear it apart as this blog has so eloquently shown.
Oh yeah, "if you don't like it here then leave"...heard that one before on here. Well guess what? Many are taking that advice and we're not better off because of it.
Holcomb's sons have never been in this sub-par school system as you called it.
People have to send their children away, especially when they graduate there are no jobs here to be had, Thanks to those in charge. More industry leaving than coming in.
You've got Dann:y Boy to thank for lack of growth 8:23am. We have had opportunity in this community several times. But, if you don't seek Dan's approval or meet his guidelines, then you won't be locating in Giles County. He has chased away a few opportunities. It is a downright disgrace.
7:40:00 AM You missed the point entirely. My post had nothing to do with Holcomb.
I am not 7:40 but, you lead us to believe it did have to do with Holcomb when you injected our school system in the midst of the Holcomb discussion. Funny you make that argument of a sub-par school system when Holcomb's children don't attend any Giles County schools. What I am trying to say is that YOU lead us to believe that it did correlate with Ron Holcomb. Don't get so defensive even I thought what 7:40 thought. If it had nothing to do with Ron Holcomb then why did you feel it needed to be discussed? Perhaps you should just request a topic be started on our sub-par school system. That way there wouldn't be any confusion at to what you are referring to.
To 9:15
You said: "wonder how many more professionals Giles Countians will chase away?"
That led me to think you were talking about Holcomb.
Wow it sure has suddenly gotten quiet on this blog. Where has everyone gone? With all the excitement with everything going on I would think more people would be talking about it.
Because people are tired of the bickering and complaining...ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
So what are you doing on her then 11:33? Are you monitoring????
News flash to 12:19...It's an open blog - anybody can post and/or read it, or as you say, 'monitor' it.
So I guess technically 11:33 is "monitoring" it. I'm sure it's because of some evil and sinister purpose.
Is Dan related to Janet????
Yeah Dan is Janet's evil twin!
Has anyone read the "Guest Editorial" in today's paper? It's great there's more than one viewpoint expressed in this whole PES/Ron Holcomb situation.
Two points I strongly agree on:
1) Lynch mob mentality
2) Hershel Lake using his newspaper to vent his personal opinions in a most unprofessional manner. Yes he should apologize to the citizens of this community.
I had thought Lake's article in the paper had more to do with Ron resigning than this blog.
Since I don't have the ability to start a new thread, I posted it here.
WAB, feel free to start a new thread on today's newspaper guest editorial...unless of course you disagree with it, in which case you'll choose to ignore the salient points made in the article.
But don't forget to make it another negative thread so you can blast certain elected officials. You know, everybody is a crook around here anyway.
Power plays to cut off debate & public input keep the pot boiling & prevent problem solving.
School spending, funding, and accountability remain a cesspool & will continue to be a major issue. The old saying, burry your head & get your rear end kicked seems to be the code of ethics for the school system.
That which could be fixed was denied. The dead possum on your doorstep will be there for another year & my guess is that several people are going to rub noses in it until the right thing is done! The "I ain't got no money", "didn't do nothing wrong", & "can't smell a thing" songs & dances just proves misery loves misery.
Perhaps the dead possum is an icon - the one that didn't make it across the road proves the one that did is still king of the road.
Heard James Harwell was running for Mayor !
He has been talking about it for a while. I would vote for him if it got Speer out of office. Is anyone going to run against Vanzant?? She needs to go too and with both Speer and Vanzant gone our county will have a chance once again.
If Harwell does as good a job as while on the county commission we may as well keep Speer.
James Harwell won't make it to first base. He came on the commission thinking he knew it all. Not! Speer will get right back in. Need someone who can get elected to run. Hey something else. Did anybody else get nauseated reading what Jano said about Judge Lee in the paper. Shocked the heck out of me. I'm used to watching her mouth twitch and her eyes roll at him every time he stood up to talk. Some folks will try to sack them votes up anyway they can. Huh?
It takes a lot of gall to treat someone with so little respect the way vanzant did the judge and then turn around and talk about how wonderful he was.
Janet is a disrespectful, bitter old hag. She did not have the right to say the things she said in the paper about the judge. She acted like she was close to him, but she was not. She disrespected him every opportunity she had. You can always tell when the old hag gets pissy. Her mouth does the twitch, twitch. Such a hateful old hag! It's all coming back around to her though. She just doesn't know when it will be. She doesn't realize it yet but she has lost a great deal of support from those who voted for her last time. I have a strong suspicion she won't be re-elected.
I've watched her roll her eyes and get impatient when the judge spoke in meetings.
So rolling your eyes and appearing impatient means yopu disrespect or dislike someone? I have done that many times with my own kids, but I love them dearly in spite of what they might say.
Look 7:20 I don't know who you are but, I had a great deal of respect for Judge Lee. And, yes that is disrespectful when a meeting conducted by adults is in session and everyone is suppose to behave as such and someone does that to someone trying to speak. From what planet do you hail from??? I find it unfathomable that you would not find that rude and disrespectful. I guess those from the younger generations who have little to no respect for anyone these days would find it okay to behave such a way. However, if you are of my generation and older you most certainly know better. How tacky to suggest otherwise. You probably have never been to a meeting and seen this display over and over or you are the evil Janet trying to mount some pitiful excuse for herself. Where are your manners by the way? Surely, you weren't raised to think this behavior is okay? An adult is not supposed to act that way. You don't have to agree with the person speaking but, it is proper to allow them to speak respectfully whether you agree or not. You disgust me that you would even argue this issue.
The county executive should listen respectfully to anyone who wishes to speak in a meeting whether it be a commissioner or a member of the public. Not so our Janet! She gotta go.
Look 11:28, you are rude and disrespectful toward me and then you want to talk about my manners? What planet do I live on? Of which generation generation am I? May I ask, are you NUTS?
11:28
And one more thing, for your information. Judge Lee was a friend of mine!!!
I meant to be rude and couldn't care less if I was disrespectful to you. You don't deserve respect. To even ponder the idea that to not listen respectfully when someone is talking is very immature!!! You need to grow up if you think that reflects the behavior of a grown adult. If judge lee was a friend of yours then you would not and I mean WOULD NOT have said insinuated it was okay to roll eyes and show such disrespect. If you knew the judge AT ALL you would know he would NEVER have done that to you regardless of if he agreed with you or not. He would have respectfully let you speak. You are an idiot! You were not friends with him, he would never have called someone like you friend who would have disrespected him in that way.
Put it another way, the judge was a man of class, distinction, consideration, and wisdom.
Anyone dumb enough to roll their eyes back in their head to demonstrate disgust with whatever Judge Lee may have been saying, should be cleaning toilets, not influencing people with a brain.
interesting thought.......
7:28
Not only are you rude and disrespectful, you are wrong about my friendship with Judge Lee. But you will think what you want anyhow, so why bother trying to defend that statement. Ironically, you are the kind of person I would never want to call a friend.
Yes I have no respect for you 3:59 and this is your one chance to be right. You were not close to Judge Lee and this fact regardless of what you say. This I know and you can argue til the cows come home. The feeling is mutual regarding befriending you. I have no interest. I surround myself with those of an ethical and moral fiber. Sorry to say it but, you don't qualify. And you are right to not bother to defend your statement because your statement if false.
5:56
Good! Looks like we reached an agreement that you and I could not be friends.
You know so much about my relationship with Judge Lee. That I find amazing. And I'll not argue with you one way or another, because I don't really care if you believe me or not. And you know nothing about my moral and ethical fiber. I just happen to disagree with you, so you ASSUME the worst about me. But that's by no means arrogance, is it?
Oh, and one more thing. If you have a list of Judge Lee's friends, you will find my name on it. But think what you want. I don't care.
It is appalling that you insist over and over the eye rolling behavior is not disrespectful. I seriously have to wonder what kind of adult you really are. You are a lost cause it seems. You clearly have no respect for the person or the office they represent when you roll your eyes while someone is speaking in a public meeting. No one says you have to agree with what they are saying, but for heaven sakes a show of respect while one is speaking is not too much to ask. You know and I know what respect is and eye rolling is not respectful. Where did you learn your manners or lack thereof????
She is the one doing the eye rolling, that is why she says she thinks it is okay. She has to justify her tantrums some way.
You are probably right 8:22. If it so, then I was dead on right in every statement I have made on this issue.
Sure has gotten quiet lately. Interesting.....

What is interesting?
Interesting how quiet it has gotten all of a sudden on this thread after several posts.
We only know what goes on by Mr. Barrett letting us know. Some commissioners only want to hold meetings when everyone is at work or school. There should be a law stating all meetings should be held after hours for the tax payers to attend. We all know how everyone is going to vote because you have some that are going to vote how the big dogs want them too. We only have a few that will stand up for the tax payers. Vanzant, Speer, Tee, almost all commissioners except for about 4 and all school board members except for about 3. If your going to kiss butt and do whatever the head person wants then please do not run for office again. Before someone states that Tee is not elected, I already know that, but he needs to go. He is a prime example of a money hunger jerk. So, everyone call whoever you have to so we can have our right back to vote for school superintendent.
We need people who will stand up for the tax payers. Thank you Mr. Barrett for keeping the people who can not attend the meetings informed of what happened and how everyone voted.
Does anyone know where Janet Vanzant stands with Dan Speer? Is she with him or against him? Anybody know for sure? The answer to this question will go a long way in whether or not I and my family support her in next year's election. I can vote in City Elections and I know for sure I'll vote for a worm before I vote for Speer. I made that mistake before but never again!!! The same may go for Vanzant also.
8:12
Why not ask her and see what she says? You can always tell if she is lying. If I was you which I'm not, but I would not vote for either one. If no one runs against them then do a write in.
I agree with 8:12. From everything I have learned from 1st hand experience from these two, I wouldn't vote for either one. I voted for Vanzant and will not again. I have heard that Speer and Vanzant work together. As the old saying goes, "birds of a feather, flock together".
I agree with you. I voted for Vanzant last election, but I know one thing I will not make that mistake again. I have several family and friends who says the same thing. We learn from our mistakes.
Yes, we certainly do! But I hear she thinks she can't be defeated. Arrogant of her especially when everyone is turning on her after catching her in so many lies. People just want her gone. We deserve a county executive that has the decency to tell you the truth and not lie to your face and stab you in the back. I am hearing she is going to feel the effects of her lies at the poles next year if she runs. Guess we will see. Still haven't heard of any willing candidates to run against her. Anyone know?
Barrett is a trouble maker and ain't done nothing but stir up stuff since he's been here. He should just go away and let the county and city have some peace. Things was a lot better before he came here. People can go to any meeting and don't need him telling us what's going on.
hmm... 2:25 are you one of them he's telling on? We can tell you don't have a proper education or didn't pay attention in school by the grammar you use. Pipe down. He isn't going away much to your dismay of course. Hope he is a real thorn in your saddle. Gee, I didn't know the truth being revealed was the new meaning for "troublemaker". I guess if you can't stand the heat maybe you should get out of the kitchen. You silly little ignorant person. I am thankful to Mr. Barrett for his superb reporting. For many of us, what he puts on this blog is our only way of knowing what took place at certain meetings. You understand don't you? You see, some of us have jobs that won't permit us to attend early morning and midday meetings. Alos, our city officials will not appeal to the citizens request to schedule them at a good time during the day for us to attend. Keep up the good work Mr. Barrett. We appreciate all you do to keep us informed.
2:25
Mr. Barrett has brought out the truth of what goes on behind closed doors in county and city government. People like you wish he would go away, so the crooks can keep up their work. There is no telling how much money the tax payers have been robbed of. People can not go to the meetings as they please because the meetings are held when most people are working for a living. Things were probably a lot better for you before he came along because you are probably one of those everyone is talking about or your related too. No, Mr. Barrett you do not need to go away, but you do need to keep up the good work. Thank you for all your time and effort to attend the meetings and keeping the ones who care about our tax dollars informed.
If meetings were changed to night time then the people who nights would complain. It's a no win for all.
That isn't true 8:58. The majority of people that would attend the meetings work a 9-5 job. To try nothing is to fail the people. Some effort to try and make folks happy is better than nothing.
8:58
The way the job market is around here, there is not many people that can work nights anymore. Thanks to Speer for bringing in all the industries to Pulaski.

Who works 9-5?
Even teachers have to be there before 9.
I think Speer and Vanzant are trying to outdo each other. They help each other out. Speer made the comment one time he had to keep her happy. Wonder why that is?
