What If There Were No Industrial Recruiter For Giles County?

After much research, requesting copies of the inter-local contract, and just plain tenaciousness, it was revealed today that no inter-local agreement exist. It seems that the agreement the commission had passed several years ago had been vetoed by the former County Executive and the Commissioners never acted to overturn the veto.
Without an inter-local agreement there is no legal obligation to financially support the Industrial Recruiter position or the Industrial Development Board.
This opens the door for a new and much better agreement to be made with much better representation by the county on that Board. Allen Barrett

I recently inquired as to who the Industrial Recruiter for Ardmore was because of all the growth and business that was steadily coming to their town. To my amazement, I was told the two mayors work together recruiting and solely responsible for all the new businesses. I felt like someone had just slapped me. Their mayors are part-time and both work at 40 hour a week jobs, five days a week. This should tell everyone in Pulaski what kind of mayor we have.

The only results we see are the expenses! Ardmore proves government can function! Mrs Howell had a plan, but the spenders plain old don't like messin with the "in" man.

I say we need to listen to miss connie intead of the wolf pack. Seems the little lady knows what to do with the wolf when he smiles & shows those shiny teeth.

I know of at least two major franchises that wanted to open businesses in Pulaski but the mayor managed to run them off. The public needs to realize that the mayor doesn't want too much growth and too much businesses and industry to come to Pulaski because the city will become too large to have complete control over. This is why he wanted to be the Industrial Recruiter in the first place. So that he can control all commercial businesses, incoming or outgoing.

I saw on the news today that Lawrenceburg now has public bus transportation that extends from Lburg to Nashville. Wonder why they went to Lburg instead of Pulaski, or did they and get turned away. Pulaski is sitting on the best geographic location you can find. We have hwy 64 that runs east and west from one end of the state to the other, then there is I-65 that runs from north and south from one end of the state to the other. Explain to me why industry doesn't and won't come to Pulaski.

If Speer was completely voted out of all public offices, I bet it would be only a matter of time until he would loose everything, his house, vehicles, etc. Because everything he has is being payed for by tax money he is and has embezzeled.

Dr. Garner and others that volunteered brought in more jobs than any paid recruiter. Why not go back to that way? It worked. This one is not.

What would be the difference from what is happening now? Amazing that a mayor is so self serving and controlling without assistance from the town? For all the negative here you would think he was not elected or appointed in SO MANY salaried roles or controlling so many? Is this town and county slow on the uptake? Or is it now with a down economy that less are benefiting from his appointments and role. Not for nothing but is it not too late to reign this in? He can gladly retire on the funds this area have abundantly given for his business savvy "who you know" approach. I have heard many tell how very generous and supportive this area is. Especially to someone whose family grew up here. Are we generous to a fault? In this case...yes and also passive past the point of no return. You might lose him as Mayor but can you take away all the career opportunities he has on the town dollar? Lose him and the rest of the parasites have to find a new place to eat. Just saying!!

Imagine a prospective industry reading in a paper that little old Giles County CUT TAXES while everyone else bites their nails!

Pollard, howell, & adams had the right idea, and facts to back it up, but the school lobby still has it's fingers around our throats!

Holt & Lovell & Jackson won't be around after next election if they pass a budget that allows a million $$$ reserve raid instead of recognizing the known million answer - could be enough to see a change there & a couple others.

Got to show the business world that we're frugal, have common sense, & treat people right. toss the spear & watch for good things to happen.

Ok. I'll throw this thought out. And wait to get bombarded by naysayers. BUT, maybe Dan is the right one to be economic director? Maybe not. I just think the people don't want him to do BOTH. If he is paid by us taxpayers to be a recruiter and a lot of time as mayor and stuff at electric system it seems we are not getting our bang for the buck. Maybe the message here is we just don't think he can do both and do either of them well. What do you think?

Why would you be bombarded 9:25? It seems to be the general consensus on here. Putting himself in direct line of $$$ is a conflict of interest all the way around. Someone qualified and experienced with proven results is the person to be a recruiter. Base salary with bonus based on the amount of jobs and industry recruited. Not selling out our water source or begging off to a bad economy but drawing a paycheck of $100,000 despite that same reason. I think a mayor should not have the time (and does not) to serve several paid roles. If not elected he still needs to go as recruiter.

Ok you two here's what I think. The people have had 'nuff of his fingers being in every pie. They want Mr. Speer to decide which 1 thing he wants to do. Talk around the coffee hang outs is that he best decide quick before folks decide for him.

Can the city/county afford to buy ou Holcoms contract ?? It may take milions to buy him out.

I don't know about the contract, BUT Holcomb resigned today.

I certainly hope that is true of his resignation. Scary to think who is in line for that job since they did such a jam up job creating the perfect contract for Holcomb. I guess he resigned from all the criticism aimed at him. Makes you wonder why he caved. Was he guilty of something other than just being a creep ripping off our city and county?

I guess Dan Speer is in mourning :( Wonder how long until his highness resigns? My goodness, Dan should be worried. I bet we can get him to do the same. He should be embarrassed himself for his own actions and treatment of others. I am sure with pressure applied just right he would tuck tail too. Things are definitely looking up after all.

Good ! The next tribe that needs a ride on a rail are the javelin-man and his acolyte group on the Power Board .
When will the city aldermen get some spine and put the hoof to that useless lot ??
The camel's nose is under the city's tent . Let it in all the way !!

Why did the mayor allow Holcolm to be locked in to such a contract that paid him a ridiculously high salary and benefits package. It appears that Speer, at no time, ever had the best interest of the city in mind. I hope someday the truth comes out as to why Holcolm was chosen in the first place and why he was blessed with such a dream-like contract.

Why would he resign? If you had the gravy train that he has would you? He will just keep on doing nothing and spending all that money and driving his free car around. PEOPLE WAKE UP AT ELECTION TIME.

The one thing that keeps puzzlying me is everyone hate Speer but he keeps getting relected every time he runs. I wonder why that is. If anyone has the answer to this please post it. I have never voted for him and I sure wouldn't now after the PES meetings. I wonder is they would pay some of my bills for me?

Speer keeps getting reelected because people keep failing to pay attention. The PES was the first time Danny boy has run into any opposition he couldn't control. Giving people what they think they want is how he controls so many.

Vote out Speer and Vanzant. We need knew, better, ethical and moral leadership for our county. We need a couple of real go getters. Enough of the disrespect and lying from county officials. We need to go to the polls and show them who is boss!!

I agree. We also need to help out by encouraging our friends, neighbors and whoever else we know by getting them out there to vote. If they don't have a way then give them a lift. If they are not registered then help get them registered. Help out to get honest officials with morals in office and make this county better. It is time we as citizens take control of our county!!!
