What Happens When A Full Time County Executive Works Part-Time?

One thing that happens, when a full-time County Executive works part-time, is important work doesn't get done.

In a letter dated 30 April 2009 Giles County was notified by the state Environment and Conservation Revolving Fund the $1,750,000.00 project to construct a Decentralized Wastewater System was within the funding zone of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Now in-order to get this stimulus money there were three documents needed from the County Executive by 1 June 2009. They were not provided.
On 11 June 2009 Giles County was given an extension until 10 July 2009 to submit these three documents or the project funding would be lost.
In a letter dated 14 July 2009 the county was notified that since the documents required by 10 July 2009 had not been submitted the project was officially removed from consideration.

Now the question is with a full time County Executive and two secretaries how could an almost two million dollar project be lost because three documents could not be sent to the appropriate address on time? Allen Barrett

There is no excuse for our county executive not being able to provide these documents. This is just another incident amoung so many others that provide proof of government officials falling short and Pulaski having to suffer for it. For example, nothing of any significance has changed in Pulaski, especially for the good. But just go to little ole Ardmore. That town is booming. It grows by leaps and bounds every year.

Could it be the company that wanted to build this waste water plant wasn't a very good company to deal with ?. Could it be that the state informed the co. ex. not to do it ?? Could it be the co. ex. just saved us $1,750,000.00 ??
There has to be a good reason behind this.

To 30 July 7:41am
You're kidding right? It was the state that sent the "letterS". It was the state that offered support for the funds. Do you even know the name of the company that was planning to build the waste water facility, if not how can you question their business practices or background?
Saving $1,750,000.00 at the cost of several million dollars in jobs and increased tax base isn't much of a savings.
You state, "There has to be a good reason behind this", very well let the County Executive present her good reasons so we can all see her wisdom. So far all she's offered is "I never received the request". When something more is offered than "the dog ate my home work" I'll be the first to apologize but until then based on previous dealings with her and the hardcore evidence of the letter itself the only words that come to mind is "expensive negligent incompetence". Mr. Barrett
How can you argue in defense of the company since you don't know much about it either? In other words, how do you KNOW the company wasn't questionnable? Several million dollars in lost jobs and wages? How so?

To 4:54 I'm not the one who raised the question of the company being reputable or not. I simply responded to the question from another poster who did question whether they were reputable.
Unless there is reason to believe or suspect someone or something is less than honorable I'm willing to withhold judgment until they prove otherwise. It's when a person proves themselves less than honorable that I have trouble accepting their guise of respectability.
The county lost Cracker Barrel because of no waste treatment at the exits. No telling now many other opportunities were missed because of undeveloped infrastructure at the interstate exits. Over a year ago Pilot sought to build a mega station, about the size of the Love's at the Columbia exit, that would have employed ninety people. This development would have generated a huge amount of taxes along with the buying power of ninety employed personnel, that over a short period of time would have generated several million dollars for county use. I did not vote for Janet for County Exec. (Mayor) the 1st time she ran because I didn't see how she had the knowledge and get up and go to lead this county in a positive direction. I voted for Don Massey the 1st time and this last time I voted for Speedy Gordon. Those that did vote for Janet have given us a royal screwing right along with Janet. She should resign and let someone else take over before we are bankrupt. I've lived in Giles County all my life (36 years) and I am wondering if I should move my family the hell out of here before it goes under.

July 31 12:44 You say you have lived in Giles County ALL your life (36 years)? I think you just 'Leaped' and 'Bounded' some identifying information to all of the 'mean spirited bloggers'.

This is my take on the 'situation': The people of Giles County have a SAY and VOTE in ANY governmental or otherwise business that uses THEIR tax dollars. Many governmental and otherwise business ppl have been charged with the responsibility to 'wisely' and 'ethically' use the HARD EARNED tax dollars for, get this, the BETTERMENT of Giles County. UNFORTUNATELY, some - MORE THAN A FEW - of the governmental and otherwise business ppl have NOT acted responsible, wisely and 'ethically'. IT IS the responsibility of the tax payers to TAKE THEM TO TASK. This blog is a 'tool' for just that purpose.

Some of the governmental and otherwise business ppl charged with using tax dollars responsibily, wisely and 'ethically' CHOSE NOT TO HONOR THEIR COMMITMENT TO GILES COUNTY. For whatever reason...power, immaturity, small town/big fish syndrome, self before others, pure ignorance...... Some of these governmental and otherwise business ppl let their wrongful and poor decisions 'leap' and 'bound' into their personal life. NOT caring who in the 'public' pond was watching. NOT caring if 'little froggies' were watching and learning by observing. Now the 'small town/big fish' is whining and crying because the 'lily pad' has been turned over. ALL has come into PLAIN view & everyone who 'lives' in the pond KNOWS the truth. There was a terrible storm around the pond for nearly a year. The storm has calmed, the 'frogs' got thumped and want to move from the 'small town pond' that they polluted. However, before they get the #@$$ out, they must add a few more 'warts' to their already 'warty' reputation by whining, crying & blaming others. Can I help you pack???? The PLEASURE would be MINE!!!!

This blog is about the taxpayers of Giles County posting THEIR opinions about whatever they want, including Janet. The person you are all urging to LEAVE is entitled to an opinion just like you yourselves. For the one who is so offended by the blogger taking the Lord's name in vain, take yourself a reality check. I'm sure you haven't breezed through life without hurting or offending someone yourself. By the way, guess you've never used the expression, "Good God!" Oops, I guess that's offensive too, huh?

Some of 'us' on this blog, just want to be neighborly and help.....hope you are going also. 'Take yourself a check'....using the Lord's name in vain and taking the action SO LIGHTLY IS the GREATEST sin of all. You are 'playing' with 'fire'.....Hell is real!

5:42 Let me see, you 'know' the name of the 6 - 10 bloggers. However, you are NOT willing to list them. LIAR! Not name calling, just the truth. Liar....someone stating something that is not a truth. Put up or shut up. All mouth, little brain. Do you work for the city or county mayor?

And I, like others, truly believe all this discord is being sown by perhaps less than ten people, most of whom I feel confident that I could name. It makes them have a greater sense of self to think that there is a small group so very disgusted and fed up with our county officials. Well, ignorance truly is bliss for them because I can't even tell you how many I come in contact with daily that are sick, sick, sick of this county and some of the slick officials. None of the people ever mention WAB or anyone else. Matter of fact many of them are very please with the fact that WAB has had the backbone and others have taken it upon themselves to research and get to the truth of the matter. Some folks can't risk their jobs to do that. What pisses off the corrupt officials is they have no control over what people who don't work for the county do. They can't make it hard on them or threaten their job. Their hands are tied. It is funny actually. Watch em squirm!

Conflict of interest & duress are wierd things. Get afraid of your job & cross the line & your job is infinately more on the line. Add to it a reputation that gets on the line & can get caught up in litigation - criminal and civil. Deception drags all involed in a pit, ofetn a pit of no return!

Example - a department head lets it be known that no raises will be given if there isn't a tax increase. Will you, a spouse, child, or other close relative be hurt because of your vote? What if the tax increase is based on fraudulent data & you have been exposed to that information?? Acts that follow with ties that bind is all it takes to fall in the bucket of ill-repute.

One never knows till the axe falls & then it's too late - there's no rewind & replay.

message - always follow solid moral ground - you will sleep better, live better, and tomorrow will kinder - things not available to those on slipery ground.

If it is so what I heard several years back about Cobb wanting to come back to his old school and teach and retire there at Minor Hill, but was not allowed by Jackson or Stogner because of his age and other reasons then maybe Cobb will not be a yes man to Jackson. I guess we will see if he has any morals about himself if he gets the commission seat and does not stand up for the citizens.
