Hallelujah! I take this a sign of progress. Wish we could have gotten more $$. But something is better than nothing. Maybe the new owners will make it less of an eyesore and put the space to good use. Congrats to the church!

Glad for them! How many showed up to bid? Maybe this building will be used for their many good projects? So hope they do not plan on demolition and making it into a parking lot!

The plan is to renovate the building and lease part of it to MMC as a bookstore and perhaps use it as a youth rec center.

Well, great! The county had turned down $125,000 last year at the urging of Janet Vanzant. Go figure.

And Janet Vanzant supposely had an offer a few weeks ago for $60,000,00. I beginning to think when her lips move, she's lying.

It seems strange to me that the city administrator volunteered to be the auctioneer and just happened to give the sell to a city council member. Sounds like it was all planned to me. My question is, was this auction advertised state-wide or just locally.

Of course! Something suspicious and sinister about this as well. This needs to be investigated immediately. Have you ever seen such corruption?

Were you there? Anyone who desired to submit a bid had ample opportunity to do so. Mr. Harrison was almost pleading for additional bids and none came.

I attended the auction and I have to say that Mr. Harrison acted in an extremely professional manner. The bid was made by Mr. Jenkins and Mr. harrison attempted to generate additional bids for at least 2 minutes. I praise the church for acquiring the building and allowing the book store to use the first floor.

I also praise the church for acquiring the building and allowing the book store to use the first floor.

We need a book store on the square.

I also wonder if all the people responsible for buying the building will think they made a mistake and are sorry for it.

As I previously posted, JPV turned down $125,000 last year.
It will not be on the tax roles since churches are exempt.

It's a shame that small-minded and angry people have to suggest something corrupt even about the auction which was, by the way, open to the public.

3:51 Maybe we do it to see how mad you will get.

That coment had nothing to do with Mr. Harrison, just sick of you.

Don't tell me to quit reading the blog. You don't quit and you don't like most of what's put on here.

Who are the "we" you keep referring to? I'm not mad. And I'll quit responding to you if you will stop doing the same to me. But I'm not going to let you slam me without rebuttal. So, get used to it.

Don't understand why you think I am storing too much anger. I just pointed out that had JPVanzant not pushed to reject the $125,000 it would have been back on the tax rolls, whereas churches are exempt. Sooooo not only do we lose the hundreds of thousands spent on the Hunter Smith under her reign, we recoup zero.

It sounds like the auction was on the up and up. I'm glad something will be done with the Hunter-Smith Building, and I understand that the churches fall under the tax exempt status. However, will a business that is put in that builsding not have to pay taxes? Also, we did recoup $50000 from the sale. Janet Vanzant turned down $125,000 for this? Why, is there a record of it? Has anyone brought this to the publics attention?

Real Deadman
Its in the Minutes of a Property Committee meeting last year. Was also in the paper, quoting one commissioner in that meetings as saying "Its pure greed. I want more". Its often wise to clip meeting reports from the newspaper.

How do I gain access to meeting minutes, they are public record, correct?

Go to the county executive and ask for them.
It's interresting that the county exec was approached just a few weeks ago with a firm offer of $60,000 for the HS bldg and she said no..... without even telling the property committe.

Carol Wade is the County Clerk. You would definitely get them from her. Don't waste your time with Vanzant's office and her TWO secretaries - they "wouldn't know where they are kept"!

When were these bids taken and turned down, I would hate to look thru a year or two worth of meeting minutes?

This was a good deal for both accounts. What about the building contents? Does anyone know what is stored and when it will be auctioned or for sale? There may be some county property worth buying (or not)?
Even IF Mrs. Vanzant was offered a price no one materialized to pay or finalize the deal. It would have been nice to have sold that property for a lot more or to have not bought it in the first place. But that ship has sailed!!!

The $125,000 offer was about a year ago. The other two as quoted by Vanzant - $50,000 & $60,000 were probably a figment of her imagination.

She certainly has quite an imagination. The lies just roll off her tongue. She can come up with the most unbelievable tales sometimes. But, the funny thing is she thinks everyone falls for it. She is DEAD wrong on that one. The commissioners and citizens have caught on to her game. The only person that believes her lies is her. What a laugh!!

I've talked to county employees who do NOT share your views about Mrs. Vanzant, And before you go accusing me of actually being "her" let me assure you that you would be DEAD wrong. People like you are both dangerous and toxic.

4:27 Do you even know what you're talking about? You sure don't sound like it. I'll bet yo don't even know Mrs. Vanzant.

I guess I would be dangerous and toxic to the likes of Janet. I can reveal so much about her that her skin would crawl to know people knew how she operates. Lies, lies, lies and more lies. Two can play her game and for her sake I hope she's feelin' LUCKY!! I actually couldn't careless who you are. I will say how I feel regardless. Hoping soon to get the chance to say it to her twitchy face. I have spoken to employees present and in the past who want her gone. Of course no one in the finance office or her office because they would be terminated or lied about. No one is going to say anything to perhaps someone like you because you clearly like the evil twit. You think people are that stupid to tell someone like you they don't like her? Those gals and guys that work for the county know how she is. You piss her off and she will make it miserable for you. Tell any manner of lies to make you look bad and her come out smelling like a rose. You really don't know her do you...or you haven't gotten on her bad side at least?

Yes 4:27 I do know what I am talking about....do you??

It may just happen tomorrow, you never know. Timing has to be right. But make no mistake it's coming. You won't have to tell anyone because news spreads quick if it happens anywhere near that courthouse or annex. The trouble is if Janet has her way about things the truth will not come from her mouth. She will try and discredit and turn it on the other person. That lady wouldn't know the truth if it sat on her face.
