Power Grab Attempt Made On Adult Board!

An attempt by the County Executive was made to dissolve the current Adult Entertainment Board, that was elected to a two year term last year, and replace it with appointments chosen by her.
The County Executive expressed concern that the Adult Board had spent $5235.00 since January. What the County Executive failed to mention was that much of this was attorney fees claimed by the County Attorney in the Board's attempt to make a strip club simply comply with the law and purchase a license to operate and comply with state and county laws.
Several commissioners expressed during the meeting and after that the money had been well spent and could not be avoided without allowing one enterprise to snub it's nose at the law.
The actions of last years Commission, was read by Commissioner Reedy, which clearly elected the Adult Board to two year terms, scheduled to end in September 2010, and installed by the County Executive. Other commissioners questioned this action by the County Executive and she tabled the issue with an announcement that they would await an Attorney General's Opinion. Allen Barrett

Seems that our county executive can't seem to understand what law is. But, then again she violated it once by running for office in a county in which she does not reside. So, what's wrong with violating a little old law? What has she against this county enforcing the laws we have on the books as pertains to adult bars and adult entertainment/bookstores? Is it votes? Who's votes is she trying to salvage? Since when does she care how much money is wasted within our county? The way I see it is, money is not wasted when it is being used to uphold the law. But again, she has no concern for abiding by the law. There is some reason for why she has chosen to pick on this committee. Any other ideas why? You know what Janet, if you read this blog and I hope you do, you are a sad excuse for a county executive and bring much shame on our county as long as you stay in office. With a little hope next year your sorry behind will be sent packing back to lincoln county or the imaginative home you tell everyone you are builing in Giles County. Funny how you have that rumor circulating as the election nears. Anyone agrees with this needs to get behind the candidate that opposes her in the next election to make certain she doesn't get back in office. I think this county is up to its eyeballs with her lies and deceptive tactics. Shameful it has take this long to open folks eyes.

Who knows!! With all the lies she tells it is hard to believe anything she says. It is safe to say that if her lips are moving she is lying.

11:38 The problem was sent to the state election office but she stated the address on E college as her residence and state bought it without thoroughly checking it out. She lives on Vanzant road in Lincoln county with hubby Joe. Hey, if you dont live together why is Joe boy at all her meetings protecting his interests.
1:24 I dont care if only Mickey Mouse runs against Vanzant next year I will vote for Mickey.

Mickey Mouse is not an eligible candidate. Besides, he would not put up with all of your crap. Don't believe me. Call and ask Mr. Mouse.

Apparently being eligible has nothing to do with it. Vansant should not have been eligible either.

Laws are laws. An there are supposed to be upheld. That is what the adult board is for. I am not against adult bars but when there owners do not want to follow the law well that is wrong. An some parts of the law should be changed in my opinion. They should be allowed to sell beer. Because that is revenue that directly that comes back into the county. Cause our to distributors in the county supply most of those places. But there should restrictions on how close the men can get to the stage when drinking. An for private dances they should not be allowed touch each other. Which means they can dance a few feet from the client.

An far as reinforcing the law the sheriff an the adult board should be allowed to do there jobs an inspect the places with out warning an have the power to put chains on the doors if they are not in complaint. An arrest anyone not obeying the rules. That includes the customers an employees of the bars. Plus the owners an managers that should be an automatic responsibility to see that is in forced to protect there own interest.

There are gives an take on this subject. An far as the 5,000 something dollars. Well that is a drop in the bucket that could have been spent on it. So why can't they all just work together on this subject an come up with a solution.

That's what I've said for a long time. Instead of calling people names and accusing them of criminal acts and the like, why not offer an olive branch and show a willingness to work together for the betterment of Giles County. Obviously, all the whining, playing gotcha, and character assassination schemes are not working. Those tactics have caused a lot of hatred and alienation here in Giles County, and it's just a shame that people can't see that. Even the Bible itself teaches the wrongness of those whose feet are swift to mischief.

My guess and I think it is a pretty good guess at that and very representative of how she operates is she is losing control and votes. If Janet gets word that she may be losing support due to a stance or decision she makes, then she reverses her position. That is where so much of her lying comes from. She tries to retain her support by being a fence rider. No respect for someone who does that. I can respect an individual for standing up for what they believe is right no matter what. She switches sides like she changes underwear.

All i know is that when I tell people where I've moved, they say two things: that's the home of the clan, - and that's where all the adult entertainment places are. What great things to be known for. Why can't we just pass some sensible zoning laws and kick the bums out. Is our economy down so much that their taxes (dirty money) are THAT important? Heaven help us. ANd for those that oppose zoning - if it's simple and doesn't address farms, private homes, etc. you have nothing to worry about. We just don't need THAT kind of business marking our exit!

Those against zoning are clueless what is contained in the law. They sit around with their buddies at the bar, club, coffee house chatting it up and assuming someone else's opinion on zoning that also doesn't have a clue. It is pitiful how close-minded this little town and some of it's citizens really are. You see a problem and try to fix it or better yet, try and explain it to someone and they want to argue with you based on hearsay from their cousin's friend's, uncle's friend who doesn't even have a formal education and probably can't read. That is the way of thinking around here. Why not ask questions of someone who truly understands and can show you in print where your point is invalid? Versus running around town crying that you are against zoning and looking like a totally idiot to those who have read the zoning law and understands it. In other words, don't take someone else's word for it. Get the zoning plan yourself and READ IT!!

I read the "Land Use Management" zoning proposal and my name is on the lawsuit that has prevented it being implemented.
Here's two problems that stand out to me more than any other part. First the public was not allowed to vote on such a matter and have their decision actually considered. It seems that a matter as important as this would at least have a public hearing and not a sham where nothing is considered but those for zoning. Second at each meeting where this matter has been discussed people keep talking about what they think zoning means, what they think can and can not happen instead of actually looking at the words written on the paper and what they actually mean. There is no court where a persons opinion will carry near as much weight in that court as the actual words on the paper. So when the words state plainly that no business can be carried on from a private residence that does not mean that certain businesses will not be restricted but that all business will be prohibited.
To prevent such things as a landfill, rock crusher, junk yard or strip club from being placed in an area all that is needed is to pass some nuisance laws coupled with the Jackson Law and some public officials with the determination and fortitude to stand firm against such things. Instituting the current zoning proposal is like what congress is trying to do with health care. You don't destroy a way of life because you have a few corrections that need to be made. There is no county in Tennessee where zoning has been implemented that it did not grow into a very repressive and costly burden on the people of that county. Allen Barrett
