Where Does The County Executive Actually Reside?
Once again this question has arisen and been requested as a discussion thread.
While it may seem that this matter has been discussed in one side and out the other and resolved there are many who may have missed some of the discussions and are still wondering how it is that the County Executive can continue getting away with claiming to reside at 901 E. College Street in Pulaski while actually maintaining a residence with her husband and family on Vanzant Road in the Dellrose Community of Lincoln County.
It's not really a difficult thing to accomplish when you have the election commission unable to investigate and verify the address of basically anyone who comes in and declares they live at a certain address. Adding to the problem is having a state election commission and District Attorney who either are not interested or unable to investigate and you have a perfect situation for defrauding the voters.
It would be very interesting to see the power bills for the College Street address for the past four years and see just how many months more that the minimum charges were applied. Allen Barrett

A little bird told me it's time to use a lot of restraint in accusing and making accusations.

Why is this blog used to assassinate good people? Seems the controllers of this blog are always looking to stir up problems.
My goodness who was the good person and what kind of assassination attempt was made. I thought this thread was about Vanzant living outside the county which is a violation of state law.
Well on this issue i do not see a problem with what is going on. If she lives here during the week an goes to Dellrose on the weekend. What is the big deal. As long as she owns the property. Its just like saying the woman cannot go on vacation. But on the other hand if she is not staying in Giles County on the weekdays. That is a different story. But the question would be did she reside at that residents when she filed her paper work to run for office the first time. An if she did whats the big deal.
What do you mean that the EMA office is using Rescue Squad money? Are not those separate departments? Why does the EMA office need money anyway, I thought it is being run by volunteers?

JAT, are you behind ! We have a new expensive office for this EMA director, he has an assistant, and the county provides both with a car. And get hugh salries.
The only time she spends on East College is moving her vehicles around. Taking one home to Lincoln County. Leaving one parked there. She has spent an enormous amount of time trying to dupe the voters. It's worked twice.
Tee Jackson does the same thing. The only thing he is not elected official. They both should have to live in and stay in Giles County. If she did live in Giles County when she was elected then she still has to live in Giles County or resign. Hopefully she will not be reelected.
the ema and rescue squad are seperate depts,but the fire chief is the ema director and his asst. director a member to.and why do they charge the county for time on rescue squad calls which is suppose to be free?
I thought the people and the services provided by the rescue squad was all volunteer. That is the reason they go door to door for donations. Please let me know if I am wrong.
What kind of salaries and benifits do the EMA guys get (gasoline, health insurance, free car)? What happened to the volunteers? To what County Commission committee do they report too?
I thought that the EMA office got funding through billing for cleanup of toxic and fuel spills. Do they still bill for cleanups and how much have they collected? Where does the money, if any go?

ema looks very good on paper and if you ask them they well sell you a line about what a good service they do but all they do is hide down satirs and ridw the county clock,and guess who pays most of the ema fuel bill? rescue squad. the formation of the ema office and the free use of the ema director/chief over two budget is running the squad in the ground while makeing the ema look great

EMA dont report to any committee. Only to Janet Vanzant.
Pierre Billard did the same job for years on a volunteer basis. No salary or benefits, no assistant. No office. No vehicles provided. Much less budget. Finally, after many years, the county gave him gas expense on his personal vehicle he drove on behalf of the county.
Anybody know what happened to Pierre Billard and why he quit? Good guy. Shame the county lost him as EMA director.
People on this blog ran him off. Too nice of guy to put up with this bull.
Does anybody really care where Janet lives? We were stupid enough to elect her twice. We had good candidates running each time. We are getting what we deserve!
Seen the news lately? There is a recall petition for some female official in Nashville. Folks say she does not live in her district. Say she can't represent them since she don't. The same thing applies to Mrs. Vanzant. Folks been talking about it for years now. Guess everybody is scared to do anything about it.

Why doesn't the EMA Office report to an oversight committee? I understand that this office has a pretty sizable budget and that they are responsible for thousands of Federal grant dollars. What grant funding has this county received? where does that money go? Rescue Squad? EMA office? Sherrif? Police? Ambulance Service? Who oversees the funds and makes sure that they are spent as they should?
I use to read many newspaper articles about Federal funding and where those funds were spent. I have not seen an article over the past year. Are we no longer receiving funds?
How much is the EMA office costing us? It use to be free.
i think too that T. Jackson should have to live in the county that he serves. you have to live in certain school districts to be able to send your kids to that school, but the director of schools doesn't even live in the county. He lives in Alabama, but has an apartment rented in Pulaski. I think you should have to live in the county in which you serve.
If Janet lives in Lincoln County then we need to ask for her to resign. Tee Jackson makes a huge salary from Giles County tax payers, but only pays a couple hundred dollars a month for rent. Does either of them have Giles County tags on their cars? I am sure Tee does since tags are so expense in Alabama. They promote that to stay and spend in Giles County, but they are the one who live and give other counties their tax money. How much longer are we as tax payers going to let this happen?
You can bet Janet Vanzants car is registered in Giles Co. at the address on east College. She uses that address for her personal business but the house was put in her name by a relative right before she decided to run for county exec in Giles Co. Now she claims to be 'building' in Giles Co just in time for next years elections. You can also bet you will see a vehicle parked in the drive on the East College property and she will stay there on and off for a few nights. Then it will be back to the usual schedule once this topic dies and gets forgotten.

Well, I thought when I voted for Janet she was a honest, hard working, and experience person to hold office. After I have seen what has taken place since she has been in office then if she gets reelected again it will be without my families votes. I hope someone with experience and can stand up for the county will run against her or if no one runs we are in bad shape again.

She is that person you first described. What you need to do is quit listening to an angry little man who seems to want her destroyed for whatever reason. Could it be that he has eyes on that position, although it wouldn't do him any good to run for it? I'm not saying that's it; I'm just throwing out food for thought.
You don't have to listen to anyone. Her role she as lead as county executive has been poor. She is a county employee and her actions are displayed everyday in her work and leadership. She along with a few commissioners and Tee Jackson have ran this county dry. It is a time for a change.
I feel stupid, and embarrassed for our county. She has no leadership qualities, makes poor decisions, can not tell the truth, and will stab her most loyal friends in the back!

You are absolutely right! These people don't want to hear that, but it's true. And Mrs. Vanzant will be elected again if she chooses to run. I know her well, and she is just not this evil monster the reporter and his followers try to make her out to be.

Why don't you just accept as fact that she is a liar and a great majority of citizens of this county know it. If she chooses to run again, I guarantee you she will not have my support she has in the past. Also, the race will not be a run away for her like has been previously. In talking to the many disappointed folks which I am sure do not talk to you because they know you support her, I have found that she has become quite unpopular since the last election. What needs to be forefront on Janet's mind and others who continue to mislead the citizens of this county is what just might be revealed about them and their deceitful and corrupt ways. Trust in me when I say this, Lincoln County would not be far enough away from Giles Co. for the shame and disgrace she will have brought upon herself and this county. One good piece of advice to you since we are dolling out advice too one another, you might want to steer clear of Janet when things she has built start to unravel.

I know Ms. Vanzant personally and will side with anyone when they say she is a good, honest woman. As for you that says he is not afraid of anyone on this blog, why do you post as anonymous. If you have got a legitimate gripe, speak up and let everyone know. Some of us are tired of the uneducated people always running their mouths with little or no facts.

The best thing for this county is pray that someone trustworthy, honest, and cares for this county will run for county executive next term. We as voters need someone that will not try to run the county dry. Please someone with experience run for office and voters please support someone else besides Vanzant. Its been brought to the committees over and over but the commissioners choose not to do anything about it so that makes them as bad as Vanzant. Public can only get her out if they take her to court but who has a spare $20,000 to do it with? So she stays.

She will certainly be there more often now that the election is coming up and all this speculation is taking place. She will be so nice that sugar wouldn't melt in her mouth. Nothing genuine just trying to garner support and maintain the support she has had in the past. She is going to be in for a mighty big surprise this election. She has no idea those that have turned on her. They tolerate her because they have had no choice. But, when the polls open she will be getting a huge wake up call.
8:46 You are right! Saw her car parked in the drive this evening. Now, notice it gets parked in the FRONT of the house so everyone passsing can see it even though there is garage parking at the back. Dark evening but no light on. I believe the car is left there and Joe takes her home to Lincoln county. Brings her back to Pulaski next day to get her car to go to the courthouse.

As I read blog after blog of malicious criticism of a person few really know, I'd ask that each of you take 5 minutes out of your day and visit Janet in her office. You will each find that she truly cares about her position and has every intention of performing the job to the best of her ability. As with any public official, she will never please all of the public all of the time. Hence, the public that feels "betrayed", immediately takes a stance against that official, usually for the duration of their term in office. Quite unfair but part of the deal for a public official. I have known Janet over 40 years. The lady is the epitome of class and has always treated me with the utmost respect. She does live in Giles County although she did spend many years at the Vanzant farm in Dellrose TN. She has and continues to be a terrific mother and wife, all the while dealing with property owner complaints, strife within the elected local officials and their "empowered" antics and undeserved criticism like this blog. Give her some credit for her efforts. If one of you can do the job better, jump in and let's see.

Why don't you take some advice from 10:09 and give Mrs. Vanzant some credit? Granted, she's in no way as good as you are, but let's give at least some credit.
To 6:28 I never said she had no good qualities or that she has never done anything right. I have publicly commended her on a number of occasions. It might surprise you to know that I find your for the most part to be a nice lady.

Exactly 1:41! Hip, hip, hooray that 10:09 knows her so well. It has been my experience and from talking to other people,commissioners, other elected officials, she has lied to them like she has to me. She has the option to lie or tell the truth and seems to find lying much more appealing. Sometimes you can know someone for a long time and not know them at all. She does, has and probably will continue to lie. She has made it her craft but, many of her lies are coming back to bite her in the hiney. Election time grows near and folks have changed their minds after all her speaking out of both sides of her mouth. She really does need to be concerned for support in this next election. People are becoming very vocal about their opinion of her. I must say I was quite shocked to learn that some of her long time supporters have had a change of heart about her. I mean for crying out loud, she lies to everyone. She isn't even smart enough to be loyal and truthful to the closest of her supporters. She has done this to herself and I will be glad to see her replaced in the next election.
